Five people were killed as two airplanes collided while nearing an airport in Southern California, authorities said.

The crash occurred around 11 a.m. PDT Sunday about 2 miles northeast of Brown Field Municipal Airport in southern San Diego County, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said.

Both planes — a twin-engine Sabreliner jet and a single-engine Cessna 172 — were approaching Brown Field, Gregor said.

The Sabreliner carrying four people was registered to military contractor BAE Systems, which said in a statement that its employees were aboard the aircraft.

The company had no immediate information on the employees or what led to the collision.

Ex-Subway spokesman, Jared, to plead guilty for sex with children and child pornography

Former Subway spokesman Jared Fogle is expected to plead guilty to one count of child pornography and one of traveling to engage in illicit sexual contact with minors, according to court documents filed Wednesday morning.

Under the terms of the expected plea agreement, prosecutors will ask federal magistrate judge Mark Dinsmore for a prison sentence of no more than 151 months, rather than the 50 years the two charges would normally carry if Fogle was to be convicted by a jury. His lawyers will ask the judge for a five year sentence.

On top of the prison sentence, Fogle will pay a total of $1.4 million to the 14 victims, register as a sex offender and seek treatment for a sexual disorder, the plea agreement documents said.

State and federal investigators raided Fogle's Zionsville, Indiana home in early July in connection with a child pornography investigation into Russell Taylor, the former director of the Jared Foundation, a nonprofit organization that Fogle founded in 2004, focused on raising awareness about childhood obesity.

Taylor was arrested on April 29 and charged with three counts each of child exploitation, possession of child pornography and voyeurism. Investigators said they uncovered hidden cameras and 400 videos of child pornography on computers in his Indianapolis home after executing a search warrant there. He unsuccessfully tried to kill himself in May while imprisoned, WXIN reported.

Comment: Why are the prosecutors asking for a fraction of the sentence that a child sex predator would usually get? They're approaching the same level of filth of this monster who used a children's foundation to prey on kids.

Getting their ducks in a row? The mainstream media is now reporting on impending economic crisis

elephant in the room
© unknownThe MSM has finally recognized the elephant in the living room.
Last year, when alternative economic analysts were warning that the commodities crush and oil crash just after the taper of QE3 were blaring signals for a downshift in all other financial indicators, the general response in the mainstream was that we were overreacting and paranoid and that the commodities jolt was temporary. Perhaps the fact needs repeating that it's not paranoia if they are really out to get you.

Only a short time later, it is truly amazing how the rhetoric from the mainstream economic yes-men is changing. The blind analysts who were cheerleading for the nonexistent global recovery are now being carefully relegated to the janitor's closet over at The New York Times, where Paul Krugman's office should be. Media outlets are begrudgingly admitting to global instabilities like, for instance, a U.S. interest rate hike leading to a return to recession. (Special note to the mainstream media: Take away the fruitless manipulation of indicators through Fed stimulus, and we never left the recession.) They also are now forced to acknowledge that China's market crash and yuan devaluation have far-reaching implications for global crisis, whereas a year ago the claim was that China's problems would stay in China. Even China's own media are now warning of the chain of fiscally interdependent economies and what the nation's downturn means for everyone.

Protesters in Kabul claim carnage was airstrike by foreign forces, not suicide attack

Image
© Hambastagi.orgAug. 10, 2015: Most families in the area have lost several members and have several injured. Due to the destruction of the houses, they have spent the past nights in the open.
Claiming that the Shah Shaheed incident was not suicide bombing but an airstrike, dozens of protesters on Monday demanded the government thoroughly investigate the carnage and inform the nation about its findings.

However, earlier security forces said the incident took place due to vehicle bombing in the locality. Some media outlets also released CCTV footages, showing an explosive-laden truck exploded in the area.

At least 15 civilians were killed and nearly 500 wounded in the widely condemned blast. A market has also been destroyed and hundreds of houses damaged.

Around 200 residents of the area along with some wounded held big protest demonstration near the third road of Shah Shaheed against the attack.

Mohammad Zahir, a protester, claimed the Friday's night explosion was as a result of airstrike by foreign forces, not a bomb blast.

Two former Georgia police officers are facing murder charges for tasing an unarmed man at least 13 times while he was handcuffed. The man died following the confrontation.

The indictment, filed Monday, charges former East Point Police Sgt. Marcus Eberhart, 41, and former Cpl. Howard Weems, 49, over the April 2014 death of 24-year-old Gregory Towns Jr.

According to the indictment, the two officers "materially accelerated" Towns' death by continuing to use their Taser stun guns on the man, who was "exhibiting signs of fatigue and shortness of breath."

The officers are each facing a single count of felony murder, aggravated assault, involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct, along with three counts of violation of oath by a public officer.

A mother was horrified when doctors told her an enormous mass in her ovary was her unborn "twin", which had been growing inside her for four decades.

Medics insisted on an ultrasound of 45-year-old Jenny Kavanagh's ovaries due to her age when she went to have a contraceptive coil implanted. But she was shocked when they spotted a 10cm mass growing in her left ovary and warned it could rupture and kill her.

Surgeons discovered it was her undeveloped, unborn twin that had grown inside her from birth - complete with face, an eye, tooth, and long black hair like Ms Kavanagh's.

Logistics officer Ms Kavanagh, from Twickenham, south London, said: "I feel very lucky that they found it and removed it before it killed me.

Sickening selfie culture: Social media group offering money for selfies taken with dead people sparks controversy

A group on Russian social network VKontake (In Contact) is offering "real money" for selfies with dead people. Announced by its founder, the contest sparked controversy as he urged members to take photos of a 13-year-old girl who died in a car crash.

The web community of those interested in taking postmortem photos is quite numerous, with over 480 members. Those who don't agree with the group's stated goals are kindly asked to leave.

The statement of the community maintains that the group does not "oppose society," supporting "generally-accepted codes of behavior" and morals, but has its own attitude towards funerals and the commemoration of the dead.

"We believe that memory should not be manifested through tears and grief."

At the same time, the founder of the community proposes to turn a profit from taking selfies with dead people. "We pay real money for your photo with a deceased relative," claims the community.

New Jersey priest raped 15-year-old in rectory and claims 'evil' teen 'wanted' it

A former New Jersey priest who is accused of raping a 15-year-old boy said this week that the teen had "evil" thoughts and "wanted" to have sex.

Earlier this year, Max Rojas Ramirez filed a lawsuit against the Archdiocese of Newark alleging that he had been raped by Rev. Manuel Gallo Espinoza in a rectory bedroom at the age of 15.

Ramirez told NJ Advance Media that he did not know that he was speaking to Father Espinoza when he admitted in confessional that he was confused about his sexuality, which he said resulted from being molested by a male cousin at the age of 8.

"I was looking for guidance and trying to figure out all these things, and eventually I came to tell him about the attraction I had toward guys," he recalled.

Heroin use coupled with prescription painkillers increasing among middle classes

painkiller, opoid
The growing availability of heroin, combined with programs aimed at curbing prescription painkiller abuse, may be changing the face of opiate addiction in the U.S., according to sociologists.

While heroin abuse is still relatively rare, the use of the drug is not only increasing, but it is now being coupled with the abuse of prescription painkillers, said Shannon Monnat, assistant professor of rural sociology, demography, and sociology, Penn State. She added that the heroin-prescription drug combination is also hitting groups that were not traditionally viewed as widespread opiate users.

"One of the things we've found is that the simultaneous use of heroin and prescription painkillers together has increased dramatically among whites and especially among young white men," said Monnat, who worked with Khary K. Rigg, assistant professor of mental health law and policy, University of Southern Florida.

Monnat described the recent trend as a domino effect of addiction that began in the 1980s and 1990s when the over-prescription of painkillers led to an increase in addiction to those drugs.
