St. Louis police officer shot twice in face during ambush

An officer was ambushed and shot in the face while sitting in his police car in St. Louis, leaving him in critical condition, according to the city's police department. A search is underway for the suspect. The attack occurred when a car pulled up to the officer's cruiser and someone from inside the vehicle opened fire before fleeing, St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson said, as cited by Reuters.

St. Louis Post-Dispatch reporter Christine Byers tweeted that the officer was shot twice in the face, citing a source. The officer has been identified as a 46-year-old male sergeant with 20 years of service in the police force. He was conscious and able to speak after the attack, according to Dotson, and remains in critical but stable condition.

St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay tweeted that he traveled to the hospital and was able to speak to the officer, noting that he is expected to survive. Slay also urged the "apprehension of the dangerous individual" who shot the officer.

The attack took place just hours after a similar ambush occurred in San Antonio, Texas, with an officer shot dead while writing a ticket for a traffic violation in his patrol car.

Woman distressed over election results posts false sexual assault claim on Facebook, wastes police resources

A woman who claimed in a Facebook post that she was a victim of a sexual assault and that Kirkland Police responded but did not investigate, made it all up.

Police say the woman, who they did not identify, admitted she fabricated the entire event. She told police she posted the false claim because she was "distraught over the recent election."

On November 11, the Kirkland Police Department received an email from a concerned citizen. It was a Facebook post from a female who stated she was sexually assaulted. She said Kirkland Police responded but would not investigate the case or even file a police report.

After a weeklong investigation officials finally tracked down the author of the original post at her work in Kirkland.

During the interview, the woman admitted she fabricated the entire event, and no assault occurred, and the Kirkland Police were never called.

Comment: Why? What thought process makes lying about being sexually assaulted the seemingly logical thing to do in response to being upset about election results? The past 15 years have made a large portions of Americans clinically hysterical.

Comic-book artist Brett Smith has drawn some of the biggest names in the Marvel and DC universes—The Hulk, Batman, Superman, Wolverine, Thor, and others—but Bill and Hillary Clinton top his list of all-time supervillains.

In August, Smith and comics writer Chuck Dixon (he helped create Batman's nemesis Bane, among many other characters) published Clinton Cash: The Graphic Novel, which is based on Peter Schweizer's expose of the Clinton Family Foundation and Hillary Clinton's actions as secretary of state. Like its inspiration, Clinton Cash: The Graphic Novel rocketed to the top of The New York Times' best-seller list, a success that Smith attributes to the humorous, four-color depiction of just how awful he says the Clintons really are.

In the two weeks since Donald Trump's shocking victory, the press has devoted a substantial chunk of its coverage to enumerating the president-elect's many faults. He's temperamentally unfit to serve as president. He's ignorant of policy. He's corrupt. His early choices to serve in his administration are racist, anti-Semitic, extremist, unhinged. And of course the whole thing is frightening, terrifying, horrifying.

Most of that is true, and it's perfectly appropriate that we focus on the considerable dangers the nation now confronts. Yet it's also the case that our appreciation for the distinct character of the threat Trump poses to the country's political order would be enhanced if we devoted a little more time to acknowledging that the risks are at least as much a product of Trump's talents as they are of his many faults.

The ominous fact is that Trump is undeniably one of the greatest intuitive political geniuses in history. Think about it: A wealthy businessman with no political experience at all takes on more than a dozen experienced politicians and manages to prevail, winning the presidential nomination of a major party. He then runs what an army of experts and analysts consider to be a train wreck of a general-election campaign and nonetheless manages to prevail to become the president-elect of the most powerful nation on Earth. It's an astonishing accomplishment.

Four police officers shot in series of ambush style attacks in several US states

San Antonio, TX Detective Benjamin Marconi, a 20-year veteran of the SAPD, was shot and killed outside police headquarters in downtown San Antonio.
Four police officers in Texas, Missouri, and Florida were shot in mostly ambush-style attacks. A San Antonio officer died from gunshot wounds. All suspects were either killed or arrested by police.

San Antonio (Texas) Police Department Detective Benjamin Marconi, a 20-year veteran of the SAPD, was shot and killed outside police headquarters in downtown San Antonio. Late Sunday morning, Marconi, 50, was issuing a traffic citation when a black vehicle pulled up behind his squad car. The driver exited the vehicle, walked to Marconi's passenger side window and fired one round, hitting Marconi in the head.

Members of the High Desert Community Watch group were out filming this week when they were approached by two Beaumont cops who found their completely legal activity suspicious. The group had done nothing illegal and, in fact, were practicing their first amendment right, when they were accosted by police. The officers then proceeded to violate their rights for no reason, and the entire incident was caught on film.

As the video begins, two Beaumont police officers approach the group to question them about their filming. The officers quickly become sarcastic and begin teasing the men filming.

As the men tell the officers that they are gathering research for a journalism project, the officers become confrontational and begin pestering the group about where the video and article will be published.

The State Department has issued an alert to US citizens about a "heightened risk of terrorist attacks throughout Europe," particularly during the holiday season. "Have an emergency plan of action ready," officials say.

"US citizens should exercise caution at holiday festivals, events, and outdoor markets," it said in a statement, adding that there was credible information that Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL), Al-Qaeda, and their affiliates continued to plan attacks in Europe, "with a focus on the upcoming holiday season and associated events."

The State Department added that US citizens should also be alert to the possibility that extremist sympathizers or self-radicalized extremists "may conduct attacks during this period with little or no warning. Terrorists may employ a wide variety of tactics, using both conventional and non-conventional weapons and targeting both official and private interests."

Tennessee officials confirmed that there are fatalities in a school bus crash in Tennessee's fourth largest city of Chattanooga. The bus driver has been charged with five counts of vehicular manslaughter.

At least five children died on the bus, while one died in the hospital, according to the Hamilton County District Attorney's office, WTVC reported. Chattanooga Police Chief Fred Fletcher later reiterated that figure, but cautioned that police could not confirm an official death toll.

In a late Monday evening press conference, Chief Fletcher reported the arrest of Johnthony Walker, who is charged with five counts of vehicular manslaughter, reckless endangerment and reckless driving. More charges may be pending for the 24-year-old bus driver.

Oil prices surge as investors anticipate OPEC production cut then fall on unhappy members

Oil prices extended gains on Tuesday, up to their highest level since October, as investors expect an output cut from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) next week.

Brent crude surged on Tuesday as high as $49.63 per barrel, up 1.5 percent from Monday and the highest since October 31, before falling back to $49.02, still up 13 cents, or 0.27 percent.

US benchmark West Texas Intermediate was seen at $48.78, its highest since October 27, before retreating to $48.33, but still up 14 cents or 0.29 percent.

OPEC and Russia are meeting on November 30 hoping to sign a deal on a coordinated production cut which is supposed to rebalance the oversupplied oil market.

Oil has slid to LOD following headlines that just one week before the Vienna deal, one which according to the Nigerian oil minister was supposed to be finalized today, more discord has emerged, as a result of Iran, Iraq and Indonesia expressing "reservations" about the proposed 4.5% output cut which exempts only LIbya and Nigeria.

It also means that contrary to constant media representations, Iran was in fact not to be exempt from a production cut, and suggesting that there was never a real agreement to begin with.

After the last few days melt-up in WTI because "an OPEC deal is certain," it seems Iraq is ready to spoil the party once again. Sending WTI (Jan17) tumbling from over $49 to a $47 handle, Reuters reports, Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jafari told reporters, "it would not be fair for us to cut oil output."
OPEC should allow Iraq to continue raising output with no restrictions, Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jafari told reporters in Budapest on Tuesday, commenting on a plan by the organization to limit supply in order to support prices.

"We think we should increase output. Iraq is in a special situation ...we are at war," he said, referring to the ongoing military campaign to defeat Islamic State.

And the reaction is a pullback in WTI's panic bid...
