Washington is considering broadening the restrictions of electronic devices on flights to the United States beyond the current ban on several Middle Eastern countries, according to an official.

US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spokesman David Lapan told reporters on Tuesday expanding the ban is being considered.

"The secretary has alluded to the fact that it is likely to be expanded, but a decision hasn't been made," he said, referring to Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly. Kelly previously said the ban is "likely" to be expanded.

"There is a threat out there. We are engaged in a discussion about the threat" before making a decision, Lapan added.

Corruption charges are stacking up against Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams, who is alleged to have made personal use of government vehicles and his own elderly mother's health funds in addition to dozens of other offenses.

Tuesday's 11-count indictment against Williams, 50, mainly drew from two allegations: that he misused a fleet of government cars secured through federal grants as his own and misspent campaign funds on massages, facials and clothing at health spas and a social club in the city, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

Some of the new charges supercede several of the 23 charges from another indictment in March, bringing Williams' grand total of charges to 29. These include 11 counts of bribery, two of extortion, 14 of wire fraud and two of mail fraud, the US Department of Justice said in a statement.

More than 50 people have been injured in a double bombing that struck outside a supermarket in the town of Pattani in southern Thailand, AFP reported citing police.

The first explosive device reportedly went off near the entrance of the two-story Big-C supermarket, and the second exploded inside a car in the parking lot, Kyodo reports.

"The first bomb was small and no one was hurt, but the second bomb was huge. I don't know yet whether it's a car bomb or not," Captain Preecha Prachumchai of Pattani provincial police told AFP.

"Currently around 50 people have been wounded. One is in serious condition," he said.

The total number of people wounded in a double explosion at a shopping mall in the Muang district of the Thai Pattani province has reached 59, local media reported Wednesday.

The first bomb exploded inside the mall at 2 p.m. local time (07:00 GMT) on Tuesday, while the second one planted in a motorbike parked outside blew up as people were leaving the building.

Two people sustained critical injuries and 21 have already been discharged from hospitals, The Bangkok Post newspaper reported.

Thai Deputy Defense Minister Udomdej Sitabutr has ruled out the possible involvement of the Daesh terror group (banned in Russia) in the bombings.

Thailand's southern-most Narathiwat, Yala and Pattani provinces on the border with Malaysia are majority-Malay and predominantly Muslim, whereas the rest of the state's provinces are mostly populated by Buddhists.

Ex-Obama lawyers sue Trump admin to force disclosure of legal basis for Syria missile strike

Government watchdog United to Protect Democracy has launched a legal complaint to force the Trump administration to disclose the legal basis behind the April 6 missile strike on a Syrian airfield. The attack could set a dangerous precedent, the group warns.

The rights group filed a lawsuit against the Department of Justice, Department of Defense and State Department, demanding that data relevant to the missile strike be released under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

Fifty-nine Tomahawk missiles were fired at Shayrat Airbase in Syria on April 6, killing at least six people and injuring several others. The move came in response to an April 4 chemical incident in the town of Khan Shaykhun, for which the US blamed the Syrian government, without providing any consistent evidence.

US President Donald Trump did not get the green light for the missile strike from either the Congress or the UN Security Council. Thus, the lawsuit says, Trump's unilateral decision still requires a publicly-released legal rationale.

"Some countries may tolerate a head of state launching a new conflict without offering a clear legal justification, but we should not," United to Protect Democracy's legal director and former Obama White House lawyer, Justin Florence, wrote on the group's website.

Comment: One wonders why these lawyers are all of a sudden concerned about the legalities of America's military attacks on foreign countries. It seems they weren't paying much attention while their client Obama was committing war crimes throughout his presidency.

The US Coast Guard has declared part of New York City's East River a "safety zone" after an unknown amount of oil spewed from a Con Edison substation into the notoriously polluted waterway. A massive cleanup is currently underway.

A statement from Con Edison says a transformer, containing roughly 37,000 gallons of oil, malfunctioned Sunday, releasing "much of the oil" into the station property and the river.

Coast Guard Chief Warrant Officer Allyson Conroy told the Gothamist that a "catastrophic failure" caused a transformer to leak dielectric fluid, a mineral oil used for cooling electronic equipment.

Con Ed spokesman Allan Drury said the spill happened at a substation on John Street in DUMBO along the Brooklyn coastline.

Colorado man gets 50 years for trafficking young boys to serve as sex slaves

Sean Crumpler
An Aurora sex offender was sentenced to 50 years in prison Monday for bringing underage boys from California to live in his Aurora home where they were made sex slaves for him and other men.

Sean Crumpler, 50, pleaded guilty March 6 to three counts of human trafficking of a minor for sexual servitude. Despite the guilty plea, a prosecutor on Monday said Crumpler has not shown remorse for what he did, according to a news release from the 18th Judicial District Attorney's Office.

"The number of young men and boys the defendant victimized over the years is staggering," Senior Deputy District Attorney Cara Morlan was quoted as saying. "This defendant intentionally targets our most at-risk youth, and he has no regret and would not change anything if he had to do it over again."

Crumpler and his associates often recruited teen boys through social media, and they preyed on runaways and other at-risk young people, prosecutors said. They brought the teens to Aurora to live in a large home rented by Crumpler, who was a computer engineering contractor.

Psychopathic society: Pizza Hut & Israeli army join in 'grotesque attacks' on starving Palestinian hunger strike leader

Israel Palestine hunger strike
Israel has plunged into unfathomable depths of cynicism and callousness, in its mockery-campaign targeting hunger strike leader Marwan Barghouti for supposedly eating a cookie and a wafer in his prison cell toilet cubicle.

This campaign of incitement has been orchestrated by Minister of Internal Security, Strategic Affairs and Hasbara (propaganda), Gilad Erdan. But Erdan is not alone. The campaign to humiliate Barghouti is being taken up by a gleeful media and public.

Two child sex offenders explain how they picked their targets and what you can do to deter them

Last year, we brought you stories of predator teachers being passed from school to school. But we never heard from any of the educators. Now, we bring you their unsettling stories, and hear how they would protect children -- from themselves.

Child predators are pariahs. But when searching for clues to help protect children from becoming victims, they are an invaluable resource.

Last year, our "Passing The Trash" investigation, which helped spur new legislation, chronicled how school administrators move predator teachers from school to school. But we never heard from the educators themselves.

Despite violence and provocative behavior from radical nationalists, thousands of Ukrainians took to the streets to hold Immortal Regiment marches and other events to mark the 72nd anniversary of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany.

According to Ukrainian interior ministry spokesman Artem Shevchenko, some 600,000 citizens attended commemorations across Ukraine.

"It was a difficult day for law enforcement agencies," Shevchenko told the TV channel 112 Ukraine. "But in general, law enforcement coped with those challenges, of which there were very many as is always on this date of May 9, and this year too there were a lot of them."
