Poll: Trump approval rating at new low of 39%

President Donald Trump's approval dipped to a new low of 39 percent, with 61 percent of likely American voters disapproving of his job performance, according to a conservative-leaning Rasmussen poll.

Some 25 percent 'strongly approve' of the way Trump is performing while 49 percent 'strongly disapprove.'

The poll, released Tuesday, comes after a series shake-ups in the Trump administration with the ousting of Trump's chief of staff Reince Priebus and White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci being the most recent.

Critics say the recent firings and hirings in the administration aren't of interest to Trump supporters with the big stinger being the repeated failure to repeal the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as ObamaCare.

Comment: Polls tell what those polled think, given the sample population set, what questions are asked, the way the questions are framed and how the person at the other end of the line perceives the question. 1500 likely voters is a small sample for a national opinion representing 157.6M* registered voters, no matter the outcome of the survey. What it more readily suggests is a trend on a particular day. *US Census Bureau, Current Population Survey, November 2016, Table 1

Four teenage girls have reported being raped at a Swedish music festival in the town of Emmaboda, police have confirmed. Eleven other women experienced sexual abuse at the event, which was also riddled with drugs.

A police report released on Sunday showed that four girls aged 15-17 reported being raped at the annual Emmaboda Music Festival, which took place July 24-29.

It went on to state that 11 other women aged 18 and older experienced other forms of sexual abuse at the festival.

"There are six suspects for sexual attacks and one for rape," South Police Region spokeswoman Ewa-Gun Westford told Expressen.

Dozens of Syrian militants from Mahavir as-Saura group, financed by the United States, laid down their arms and surrendered to Syrian governmental forces, a source familiar with the matter told Sputnik Wednesday.

"Everyone who surrendered said that they did not want to fight wars against the [Syrian government's] army, they had joined Mahavir as-Saura for money given to them by the United States. And they were waiting for the moment to surrender," the source added.

The Cook County Jail in Chicago has begun providing the overdose-reversing drug naloxone to at-risk inmates upon their release. Los Angeles may soon follow suit, as the US struggles to combat the nation's opioid epidemic.

Approximately 900 inmates at the Chicago facility, which is the largest single-site prison in the country, have been trained to use naloxone nasal spray devices designed to reverse the effects of an opiate overdose almost immediately.

Addicts are most at risk of fatally overdosing in the two weeks after getting out because of their time away from drugs while locked up, Sheriff Tom Dart, whose office runs the Cook County Jail told AP.

"We've got to keep them alive (and) if we can get them through that two-week window, they might get treatment, get off drugs," Dart said.

A third of Britons want former Prime Minister Tony Blair to be tried over his decision to invade Iraq alongside the US back in 2003.

According to the latest YouGov poll, 33 percent of respondents said the former Labour leader "knowingly misled Parliament and the public" and should therefore be prosecuted as a "war criminal."

The poll comes just after a High Court ruling blocked an Iraqi general's bid to prosecute Blair over his decision to intervene in Iraq.

Alexander Akopov, the hero pilot who saved the lives of 127 passengers and crew of a blinded Airbus A230 by making an emergency landing in Istanbul, has had quite the week. Awarded the Ukrainian 'Order for Courage' on Sunday, he has since become the target of a vicious harassment campaign by Ukrainian nationalists for his Russian sympathies.

On July 27, a Turkish AtlasGlobal flight on route from Istanbul to Ercan, northern Cyprus was hit by an intense hailstorm which caused severe damage to the cockpit and completely smashed the front windows, reducing visibility to zero.

The plane's pilot, Ukrainian national Alexander Akopov, made the decision to turn the plane around and return to Istanbul for a blind landing. Video of the veteran pilot's feat soon surfaced and went viral, showing the plane's daring descent to the airport, where it made a safe, smooth landing, saving the lives of all 121 passengers and six crew members onboard.

US Air Force buying leftover Russian 747 jets for President's new ride

The US Air Force is buying two 747 aircraft left out in the cold by a bankrupt Russian firm for President Donald Trump's personal ride: Air Force One.

The move reduces cost for the presidential aircraft derided by Trump. "The plane is totally out of control, it's going to be over $4 billion" Trump said in December. "I think it's ridiculous," he added.

The jets were ordered from Boeing by Transaero in 2013 but were never delivered. Boeing was going to make four jets for the Russian airliner, but stopped when the company ended up going under in 2015. The USAF agreed to terms to buy the Russian planes for just $390 million.

The American fighter pilot who became the first to shoot down an enemy aircraft in battle in 18 years has broken his silence about the experience in an interview with British military outlet SavetheRoyalNavy.org.

Navy Lt. Cmdr. Michael Tremel, an F/A-18E Super Hornet pilot assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron 87 aboard the carrier USS George H.W. Bush, says the entire fateful battle with a Syrian Air Force Su-22 Fitter on June 18 lasted about eight minutes.

Tremel engaged a Syrian pilot who had been dropping munitions on US-aligned Syrian Democratic Forces south of the city of Tabqah in the Raqqa Governorate. Tremel made the call to shoot the plane down himself.

A former US diplomat has once again been found liable for working with her husband to enslave and rape an Ethiopian woman who was hired to serve as their housekeeper. Linda Howard was ordered to pay the victim $3 million.

The now-30-year-old housekeeper, identified in court documents only as Sarah Roe, began working for Linda and Russell Howard in Yemen in 2007. Mrs. Howard was a foreign service officer in US Embassy's Information Program Center.

Mrs. Howard proposed giving Roe a monthly salary of $150, as well as help renewing her visa, medical treatment and support for her daughter. The envoy also offered Roe the opportunity to join the family at her next State Department posting in Germany, reported the Washington Post, citing court documents.

In exchange, Roe said, she was informed she had to move in with the family, sell any possessions she had in Yemen and keep Mr. Howard happy while his wife was at work. She refused to wear a skimpy uniform that Mrs. Howard sewed, so Mr. Howard took her to the mall. There he bought her lingerie, a thong and two miniskirts, which she also refused to wear.

Germany starts face recognition surveillance test amid criticism

CCTV camera fitted with face recognition capabilities

Germany has test launched a new face recognition surveillance system at one of Berlin's railway stations. Security officials say the system would contribute to anti-terrorism efforts while data protection bodies warn against human rights violations.

Three CCTV cameras, each equipped with different face recognition software, have been installed at the Berlin's Suedkreuz railway station as part of the test project run jointly by the German federal police, the interior ministry and German Railways.

The two main objectives of the trial run is to determine whether the cameras can automatically recognize faces of specific persons and single them out from a crowd and to establish which face recognition program is the most reliable.

"We want to test it under normal circumstances," in which people in question can "wear a hat or a motorcycle helmet... or just vanish in the crowd," a federal police spokesman told Deutsche Welle (DW).
