Winter is coming: Financial analysts warn that global markets will soon see a downturn

stock crash
HSBC Holdings Plc, Citigroup Inc. and Morgan Stanley see mounting evidence that global markets are in the last stage of their rallies before a downturn in the business cycle.

Analysts at the Wall Street behemoths cite signals including the breakdown of long-standing relationships between stocks, bonds and commodities as well as investors ignoring valuation fundamentals and data. It all means stock and credit markets are at risk of a painful drop.

"Equities have become less correlated with FX, FX has become less correlated with rates, and everything has become less sensitive to oil," Andrew Sheets, Morgan Stanley's chief cross-asset strategist, wrote in a note published Tuesday.

His bank's model shows assets across the world are the least correlated in almost a decade, even after U.S. stocks joined high-yield credit in a selloff triggered this month by President Donald Trump's political standoff with North Korea and racial violence in Virginia.

Trump's 'America first' voter base unhappy with his flip-flop Afghanistan speech

President Trump's "America First" base was the biggest loser of Trump's speech on Afghanistan Monday night, and many quickly expressed their disappointment at the business-as-usual address from the president who had once promised to limit American intervention abroad and focus on nation-building at home.

Trump's speech, in which he pledged to increase the number of troops in the 16-year-war, was the first since the departure of Chief Strategist Steve Bannon and confirmed the fears of many on the right that without a strong nationalist voice in the West Wing, the President would revert to the same old fare that Americans had voted to reject in November.

Using many of the same vague promises that previous presidents had used, including a repeat of Obama's promise not to give a "blank check" to Afghanistan and a pledge to finally get tough on Pakistan, it was a far cry from the "America First" foreign policy he laid out in the months before election day.

Women-only train carriages should be introduced to tackle the recent spike in sexual offences, a Labour MP has said. The idea, however, has met with opposition.

Shadow fire minister Chris Williamson said it is worth reconsidering the idea after it was first suggested by Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn during his first leadership campaign in 2015.

Williamson raised the proposal on Twitter when he shared figures from the British Transport Police (BTP), which show sexual offences on UK transport networks have risen to 1,448 in 2016-17, up from 650 in 2012-13.

Similar measures have been introduced in Brazil, Japan and Mexico. Williamson said it should be tried out in Britain, as it could create a "safe space."

"Complemented with having more guards on trains, it would be a way of combating these attacks, which have seen a very worrying increase in the past few years," Williamson told PoliticsHome.

More than a quarter of people who voted for Brexit believe they were misled by the Leave campaign, with almost one-in-10 now saying they would vote to 'Remain' if a second referendum was called.

According to a survey by Opinium, 26 percent of all Brexit voters said they were misled by Leave. One of the main arguments used by the campaign was the false promise of an additional £350 million (now US$450 million) per week for the National Health Service (NHS), which has since been proven untrue.

Cops take down a 61 y.o. man for singing a Beach Boys song in public

police assault
Jim Osche likes to go out into public and sing as a means of relieving stress. However, Osche's stress relief was met with police brutality and is now the subject of an excessive force lawsuit brought against an Allentown police officer who attacked him for singing.

According to Osche, he made a deal with police about singing in the Center City streets two years ago. According to Osche, he had a meeting with then-Capt. Glen Dorney about where and when he could sing.

"He said, 'We've gotten some complaints about your singing, it's kind of loud,'" Ochse testified. "He said, 'Why don't we make a pact? You can sing any time after five o'clock.'"

At 7 p.m., on August 14, 2015, Osche was doing exactly that.

However, that street singing would come to an abrupt and brutal end when officer Robert Busch responding to Osche's performance. The entire interaction was captured on video and speaks for itself.

Witness to RT: US-led airstrikes in Raqqa directly targeted homes as kids were playing outside

raqqa civilian
Civilians who escaped from Raqqa, an Islamic State stronghold in Syria, have told RT about the horrors they faced during an airstrike by the US-led coalition, which they say "directly targeted" their homes while children were outside.

The witnesses told RT's Ruptly video news agency that they believed coalition forces were aware that there were no insurgents in the area, as what they think was a coalition aircraft had filmed them hours before the strike. The aircraft targeted the civilian houses while children were playing in the streets, one man said.

"We were directly targeted by the coalition after their reconnaissance craft filmed us, it was at a low altitude," an eyewitness told Ruptly at Al-Qamishli National hospital in Hasaka on Tuesday.

"It was very clear that there were no insurgents in that area, there were kids playing in the streets and we were bringing water from a water tap, sipping drops. We were filmed, then directly targeted after hours. Our house and the civilian houses around us were directly targeted."

Outrage has spread across Morocco after video surfaced this week of a young woman being sexually assaulted by a group teenagers on a bus, while onlookers do nothing to prevent the attack.

The disturbing video was shared on social media on Sunday, Middle East Monitor reports. It shows a group of young men undressing the woman on a Casablanca bus and forcing themselves on her as others cheer on the assailants.

Six young men between the ages of 15-17 were arrested by Tuesday, Reuters reports. The suspects were arrested in their homes in Sidi Bernouss.

The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said in a statement: "Investigations are underway to establish the truth about the circumstances of this case and arrest other individuals involved in these criminal acts and bring them before justice," Morocco World News reported.

The left embraces Antifa, America's anti-free speech 'Taliban'

The liberal media is pushing the idea that any violence committed on the part of Antifa, the so-called 'anti-fascist' leftist group, is acceptable if it is directed at the political right. Such delusional thinking will only lead to civil war.

Following the recent spate of violence that rocked Charlottesville after right-wing groups assembled to protest the removal of a Confederate statue, it became quickly apparent the US media had a dog in this fight. And a vicious dog at that.

Liberals howled in pain after Trump called out not only the aggressive tactics of the 'alt-right,' but of the 'alt left' as well, saying there was "blame on both sides."

ESPN pulls sportscaster named Robert Lee from Virginia football game because he shares name with Confederate general

Asian-American sportscaster Robert Lee was pulled from a University of Virginia football game because he shares his name with a Confederate army general and his network did not wish to cause offence to viewers.

ESPN took the decision as Confederate leader Robert Lee has become synonymous with the recent Charlottesville protests and racially-charged unrest in many parts of the US.

Lee's monument was removed from the University of Texas this week, with the institution's president, Greg Fenves, saying it could otherwise be used by white supremacists as a focal point for "hatred and bigotry."

Comment: Um, ESPN made it an issue by pulling the sports commentator based solely on his name! How insane!

Despicable: Catholic Church & UK Govt say kids "consented" to sexual abuse - in order to avoid having to give monetary compensation

Church abuse
An underage child cannot consent to be sexually abused. However, the Catholic Church and the government are claiming this as a defense.

A scathing report from Victim Support, a charity dedicated to helping victims of sexual abuse, has shed light on the Catholic Church and the government working to avoid paying compensation to child victims of sex abuse.

The government agency, Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme, and the Catholic Church are actively attempting to deny financial settlements against them, saying the victims have "consented" to the abuse by government agents and clergy - even if they were too young to legally do so.

As the Independent reports,
Lawyers representing victims have warned that this line of defense is becoming increasingly common.

One case that the charity Victim Support brought attention to involved a 12-year-old girl who was given alcohol, brought into woodland and then sexually assaulted by a 21-year-old male. The girl was denied compensation because she had "voluntarily" gone into the woods with the man.
"No child ever gives their 'consent' to being abused, and the increased use of this line of defense, although still quite rare, is worrying," said Anne Longfield, the Children's Commissioner for England. "I have contacted the Ministry of Justice previously and again recently about this issue and the Government should look urgently at what can be done to tackle it."

Comment: So, when all else fails, the church and government blame the child for the abuses they have had heaped upon them - and insist that abhorrent behavior on the part of those in authority are somehow misunderstood. Welcome to the pathological world-view; a sure sign of how far gone Western society truly is.
