The existence of a swastika emblazoned anchor in a public park is being defended by a Canadian mayor, after an activist tried to erase the symbols.

The local government of Pointe-des-Cascades, Quebec, has denied the artefact in Parc des Ancres promotes hate and explained how the anchor dates back to before World War II.

Discovered 25 years ago by divers in lakes Saint-Louis and Saint-Francois, the large iron piece, which prominently displays a Nazi symbol, is part of a historical display close to a museum, according to the municipality.

Local mayor Gilles Santerre insisted the community "does not endorse Nazism."

"Our village has a beautiful community and family spirit and creates gathering events for all the population," Santerre said in a statement.

"The acres park is an open-air museum so that people can discover the history of our village. To avoid confusion, the city plans to install new plates that will better explain the origin of these anchors."

It comes after police were called last week to prevent 'Erasing Hate' campaigner, Corey Fleischer, from covering up the symbols.

Libyan refugee hate preacher received $620K in social benefits in Switzerland - media

Muslim preacher
A Libyan immigrant who called on Allah to "destroy" non-Muslims during his prayer in a Swiss mosque claimed $620,000 in social benefits for over a decade from a predominantly Christian state, local media report.

In his hate speech, Abu Ramadan called on Allah "to destroy the enemies of our religion," Switzerland's SRF broadcaster reported, citing an audio recording in its possession.

The "enemies" according to the preacher included "Jews, Christians, Hindus, Russians and the Shia [branch of Islam]."

Yet, Ramadan received some 600,000 Swiss francs ($620,000) in social benefits from the Swiss government over the last 13 years, according to research conducted by the Rundschau program of SRF and the Tages Anzeiger newspaper.

According to the newspaper, the man came to seek refuge in Switzerland in 1998 after he fled his homeland, explaining that he'd been pursued by authorities for spreading religious propaganda for the Muslim Brotherhood.

With political asylum granted and a residence permit, the 64-year-old Ramadan hardly ever worked, instead living on social payments from 2004 until 2017.

Veteran confronts Ohio Police Chief & Mayor after cops killed unarmed man (VIDEO)

Damien Parker
Tensions among police and citizens in Euclid, Ohio have come to a head recently after police killed an unarmed 23-year-old man for unknown reasons and officers were seen on video pulverizing another man over a suspended license. A video uploaded to Facebook captured an articulate rant by a military veteran about these recent events, directed at the police chief and mayor, which epitomized these tensions perfectly.

In March of this year, a Euclid police officer, responding to a call about a man sitting in his vehicle, shot and killed 23-year-old Luke Stewart. The police department and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation have yet to give any reason for the shooting, and an investigation would later reveal Stewart was unarmed. Naturally, the citizens of Euclid are upset and want answers.

The family and citizens demanding answers as to why these recent events unfolded like they did came to a head this week as dozens of people took over a Euclid City Council meeting.

A man who forked over more than $1,000 for what should have been a comfortable flight from London to South Africa said, instead, he was forced to sit in a puddle of urine for 11 hours. Andrew Wilkinson, 39, said he noticed the stain and the unmistakable smell as soon as he sat down.

"I got to my seat and saw that there was a wet patch," he told Britain's LAD Bible in a story published Monday. "It was about the size of two decks of cards laid side by side. At first, I thought it was water but the smell was so distinct it could only have been urine."

Wilkinson said when he initially alerted a crew member to the stain, he was given wipes to clean it himself. He ended up sitting on a blanket for much of the flight. When he needed a fresh blanket to put beneath him, he said, the flight attendant was unhelpful in finding him a new one. Wilkinson also requested that his seat be moved.

Authorities in several European cities have decided to compromise the aesthetic look of some of their most beautiful sites to provide additional security to residents and tourists in the wake of recent terrorist vehicle attacks.

Last week's deadly terrorist attacks in Spain's Barcelona and Cambrils have become the recent tragic events in a series of cases in which cars, vans or trucks have been used by extremists to plow into pedestrians in the streets.

In Barcelona, where over 100 people were hit by a terrorists' van, 13 of them fatally, in the popular Las Ramblas pedestrian area, some residents complained that officials had not done enough to prevent such an attack. However, city authorities said ensuring total security was impractical. "We can't fill up Barcelona with bollards," Reuters reported Joaquim Forn, who runs home affairs in the Catalonia region, as telling a local radio.

In other European cities, new anti-vehicle security barriers appeared in some of the most popular pedestrian areas.

When an academic event was axed by a Canadian university after pressure from left-wing activists who believed it was giving a platform to fascists, one of the sponsors RT spoke to says the label 'Nazi' is being applied to anyone the far-left don't like.

The panel discussion called "The Stifling of Free Speech on University Campuses" was scheduled to take place on August 22 in the Ryerson University of Toronto, Canada.

The event was expected to host a number of speakers, namely Professors Dr. Jordan Peterson, Dr. Gad Saad, psychologist Dr. Oren Amitay and investigative journalist Faith Goldy, known for controversial views on gender theory, Islam and other issues.

A Facebook page, dubbed 'No Fascists in Our City!' was established by left-wing activists, calling for a mass protest against the panel.

"We believe that transphobia, Islamophobia, and intolerance in all its form are abhorrent, and refuse to be complicit bystanders in it," the Facebook page reads.

Judge shot outside Ohio courthouse now 'doing fine' in hospital

Judge Joseph Bruzzese
Jefferson County Common Pleas Judge Joseph Bruzzese
Jefferson County Common Pleas Judge Joseph Bruzzese is out of surgery and "doing fine" at UPMC in Pittsburgh, according to City Manager Jim Mavromatis.

Bruzzese was shot in an ambush-style attack outside the Jefferson County Courthouse on his way into his office Monday morning.

County officials said the courthouse, which was closed today as the investigation progresses, will remain closed Tuesday.

Mavromatis said the family of the shooter, who was shot and killed by a probation officer who happened upon the exchange of gunfire between the shooter and the judge, has been notified.

The name of the shooter is expected to be released to reporters later today.

An at-times emotional Sheriff Fred Abdalla spoke with reporters at about 11:15 a.m. and said authorities are still trying to establish a motive.

The shooter exchanged gunfire with Bruzzese near the Court Street entrance to the courthouse, Abdalla said, and was shot and killed by a common pleas court probation officer who was walking in Dollar Alley between buildings from Fourth Street to Court Street when the shooter turned on him.

Mavromatis said the suspect apparently backed into another car in an attempt to escape.

Comment: Fox News reports more on the identity of the shooter, as well as his potential motive for targeting the judge:
The man who shot and wounded an Ohio county judge outside a courthouse Monday morning before being shot dead was the father of a Steubenville High School football player who was convicted of rape in 2013, authorities said Monday. [...]

The gunman was identified as Nathaniel "Nate" Richmond, the father of Ma'Lik Richmond, a Steubenville High School football player who served nearly 10 months of a year-long sentence in juvenile detention after being convicted, along with another high school football player, of raping a 16-year-old girl in 2012.

The case brought international attention to the Ohio city and led to allegations of a cover-up to protect the football team.

Ma'Lik Richmond is currently on the Youngstown State football team but isn't allowed to participate in any games following backlash surrounding his spot on the team.
