Centuries-old English church bells silenced after single noise complaint

St Peter's church Sandwich Kent England
An historic church which has rung its bells since 1779 is to be silenced after a single noise complaint, in a move residents say threatens the "traditions and history" of the medieval town.

The bells of St Peter's in Sandwich, Kent, South East England, have chimed every 15 minutes since the eighteenth century, but Dover District Council has served a nighttime 'noise abatement' order against the church, reports the BBC.

The order, usually reserved for neighbours who play excessively loud music or who have barking dogs, means the Norman church, which dates back to the thirteenth century and stands on grounds that have been a place of Christian worship since the 1100s, must be silent between 11 pm and 7 am.

The council said it had received a single complaint from a neighbour and it had a "statutory duty to investigate noise complaints". After undertaking decibel tests, the bells were deemed "too loud".

Comment: One wonders what would have happened if someone in England had complained about the noisy activity of a nearby Mosque or Sinagogue, for example.

Danish High Court confirms the guilty verdict of 17-year-old female terrorist

A Danish High Court has confirmed the guilty verdict of a 17-year-old female student who was earlier convicted over a plot to blow up two schools after being inspired by Islamic State.

The girl, named as Natascha Colding-Olsen from the town of Kundby in Zealand, was found guilty of attempted terrorism by the Holbaek district court in May. She was sentenced to six years in jail. On Friday, after hearing appeals from both the defense and the prosecution, three judges and eight out of nine jurors ruled that Olsen is guilty beyond reasonable doubt of the terrorist offenses.

The 17-year-old first became interested in Islam following a trip to Turkey and later converted to the religion, apparently leaning to a radical interpretation of the faith. Olsen began posting messages in support of Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) on social media and in the autumn 2015, tried to contact IS leaders. She was also a member of the Facebook group for the Danish branch of Hizb ut-Tahrir, an Islamist movement that seeks to establish a worldwide caliphate. The group is banned in Russia and a host of other countries as a terrorist organization.

There is some kind of revolution coming to American life

pitchforks
What if the fun and games of 2017 are over? The hidden message behind the sexual harassment freak show of recent weeks is that nothing else is sufficiently serious to occupy the nation's attention. We're living in the Year of Suspended Reality, stuck in the sideshow and missing the three-ring circus next door in the big tent.

It probably all comes down to money. Money represents the mojo to keep on keeping on, and there is probably nothing more unreal in American life these days than the way we measure our money - literally, what it's worth, and what everything related to it is worth. So there is nothing more unreal in our national life than the idea that it's possible to keep on keeping on as we do.

The weeks ahead may be most illuminating on this score. The debt ceiling suspension runs out on December 8, around the same time that the tax reform question will resolve one way or another. The debt ceiling means that the treasury can't issue any more bonds, bills, or notes. That is, it can't borrow any more money to pretend the government can keep running. Normally these days (and it's really very abnormal), the treasury pawns off paper IOUs to the Federal Reserve and the Fed makes digital entries on various account ledgers that purport to be "money." And, by the way, the Fed is a consortium of private banks not a department of government - which is surely one of a thousand ways that the public is confused and deceived about what condition our condition is in, as the old song goes.

Rabid Rabbi: Wounded Palestinians should be "finished off"

Jewish rabbi, Rabbi Baruch Marzel

A Jewish rabbi urged Israeli occupation forces to "finish off" wounded Palestinians who carry out resistance attacks and to refrain from providing them with medical treatment or first aid, leaving them to bleed to death.

The right-wing Rabbi Baruch Marzel, who lives in an illegal settlement in Hebron, claims that "since the Elor Azariya affair terrorists are not killed and soldiers do not finish the job and do not make sure that the terrorist is dead."

However, the facts on the ground indicate that Israelis have been continuously targeting unarmed Palestinians. The most recent incident was when a member of the Givati Brigade killed a young Palestinian man, Mohammed Musa, 29, and left him to bleed to death. His sister Latifa Musa, 33, was wounded, which forced the brigade's leadership in the occupied West Bank to reprimand the soldier and dismiss another officer.

White Helmets busted: Video shows them celebrating the deaths of Syrian civilians - alongside Al-Qaeda

White Helmets
White Helmets were seen on video celebrating the massacre of Syrian civilians alongside Al-Qaeda, ironically in a film to portray them in a positive light.

The White Helmets, a Nobel Peace Prize-nominated group that has been painted as a selfless "humanitarian group" by the media, was once again caught on video helping the same terrorist group that is hurting the civilians they claim to protect. This time, however, the video was ironically put together by Now This as a pro-White Helmet piece.

The group, which was the subject of an Oscar-winning documentary in February, is described by IMDB, "a group of indomitable first responders [who] risk their lives to rescue victims from the rubble" in war-torn Syria "as daily airstrikes pound civilian targets."

However, a recent post from Vanessa Beeley, the associate editor of 21st Century Wire, painted the White Helmets in a very different light.

Comment: The propaganda sham that is the White Helmets has been revealed many times before:

Sisters no more: Japanese city abandons relationship with San Francisco over 'comfort women' statue

Statue

The city of Osaka in Japan has said it will end its 60-year relationship with San Francisco after the California city approved a statue commemorating the "comfort women." The sex slaves were used in Japanese military brothels during World War II.

"This is highly regrettable," said Osaka Mayor Hirofumi Yoshimura, according to Reuters, describing Wednesday's endorsement by San Francisco Mayor Edwin Lee of a city council decision. "The relationship of trust has completely been destroyed."

Yoshimura said he will scrap Osaka's sister-city relationship with San Francisco by the end of the year.

The statue, called Column of Strength, features three girls standing on a pedestal, holding hands. They represent the hundreds of thousands of young women from China, Korea, the Philippines, and other countries that were forced into sex slavery by the Japanese military in the 1930's and 1940's. A fourth, much older woman stands before the column looking up at the girls, exemplifying the age of which the surviving 'comfort women' finally began talking publicly about the horrors they experienced.

A child sex trafficker in Colorado has been sentenced to 472 years in prison. It's been said to be the longest sentence in a human trafficking case in US history, with prosecutors originally seeking 600 years.

Brock Franklin, 31, was sentenced Tuesday by Arapahoe County Judge Peter Michaelson. In March, an Arapahoe County jury found Franklin guilty of 30 counts of operating a prostitution ring that preyed on young girls and women. Among the counts were violations of Colorado's organized crime control act, charges of pimping a child, human trafficking and sexual assault.

An Ethiopian imam seeking asylum in Switzerland has been found guilty of inciting violence, local media report. The imam called for the killing and burning of Muslims who refused to join communal prayers, and also distributed execution photos online.

The asylum-seeking imam expressed the sentiments during Friday prayers at An'Nur mosque in the town of Winterthur in October 2016, 20 Minutes reported. "In his homily of Oct. 21, 2016, in the An'Nur Mosque, he is accused among other things of calling for expelling Muslims who do not pray in the community, and even burning them and killing them in their homes if they still refuse," prosecutors said in a statement in August.

The 25-year-old claimed that he did not speak Arabic well and had delivered a prepared sermon without understanding what he was saying. However, the court ruled otherwise, finding him guilty of three counts of public incitement to crime and violence, multiple depictions of violence, and working without a permit.

England's cricket legend Flintoff claims Earth is flat or turnip shaped

Earth could be flat, according to former England cricket star Andrew Flintoff. Speaking on his BBC podcast, he ignored all satellite photos to claim there is "evidence to suggest the world wasn't round."

Flintoff admitted being obsessed with a podcast called The Flat Earthers - a show dedicated to discussing the conspiracy theory that Earth is flat, and that claims to the contrary are merely lies peddled by Disney. The assertion of a spherical planet has been around since the time of the ancient Greeks and widely acknowledged as fact since Christopher Columbus's famed voyage in 1492.

"If you're in a helicopter and you hover, why does the earth not come to you if it is round?" Flintoff asked, according to The Sun. "Why, if we're hurtling through space, why would water stay still? Why is it not wobbling? Also, if you fire a laser about 16 miles, if the world was curved, you shouldn't be able to see it but you can."

He added: "There's evidence to suggest that the world isn't round. The pictures which you see, the horizon always appears flat apart from NASA pictures, which some say could be doctored. They could be doctored."

Comment: Which is why Flintoff is a cricket player sporting a 'limited playing field' and not an academic.

As record number UK same-sex couples adopt children, heterosexual applications decline

More LGBT couples are adopting children, while the number of heterosexuals applying to become adoptive parents is falling, new figures reveal. The number of same-sex couples raising adopted children has reached a record high.

A private law firm that analyzed the figures noted that the number of gay couples applying for adoption increased from 510 in 2013-2014 to 586 last year. They accounted for one-in-seven children being adopted.

"The door has really opened now for all kinds of individuals to start their own family," said Sarah Wood-Heath, an associate lawyer at Wilsons. "Same-sex adoptions are at a record high, and it may be that the legalisation of gay marriage in 2013 has been a catalyst for more same sex couples to adopt," she added, according to The Independent.

By contrast, the number of heterosexual couples adopting has dropped during the same period from 4,914 in 2013-14, to 3,561 last year.

Wood-Heath also argued that advances in fertility treatments may be an explanation for the fall. "Medical advances have meant that alternative birthing options such as surrogacy or IVF are increasingly attractive for many heterosexual couples - there are now so many options for anyone to have a child," she said.
