Sweden's war prepper manual slammed for not including pets in a state of an emergency

A Swedish animal protection group voiced unease over a government-issued civil defense manual which advised on everything - from fake news to bombing alarms - except one thing: what to do with your pet should a crisis occur.

Some Swedes may have got jitters after the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) has delivered a comprehensive crisis preparation manual to almost every household, but the country's Animal Protection Society angrily slammed the release, saying it was incomplete and even dangerous.

"You failed to take pets into account, which is important. There are studies in the United States indicating that people have refused to evacuate because of their pets, simply because they didn't know what to do with them," Johan Beck-Friis, Secretary General of the group and an official with the Swedish Veterinary Association, has said, according to SVT media outlet. "So this can be a danger," he added.

The MSB rejected criticism, citing common sense considerations. Had the agency included detailed instructions on every possible topic, the booklet would not fit in 19 pages.

Question

What ever happened to the panic over Peak Oil?

oil platform fire Nigeria
© Pius Utomi Ekpei/Agence France-Presse/Getty ImagesA gas flare burns at the Batan flow station operated by Chevron under a joint-venture arrangement with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) for the onshore and offshore assets in the Niger Delta region on March 26, 2018.
A decade ago, the media was filled with stories about peak oil, numerous books were published on the subject (such as Half Gone and $20 a Gallon!), and even the Simpsons mentioned it in an episode about doomsday preppers. Now, the topic is largely forgotten and the flavor of the month is peak oil demand. Anyone concerned about the quality of research that works its way into the public debate should be curious about how so many were so wrong for so long. (Buy my book for the full story.)

First and foremost, realize that in the 1970s, numerous analysts and institutions made similar arguments, arguing that geological scarcity was responsible for higher prices, not the two disruptions of production in 1973 and 1979. Indeed, in the months before oil prices collapsed in 1986, the consensus was that prices were too low and had to rise to make upstream investment profitable, despite the fact that OPEC production was collapsing (down from 30 mb/d in 1980 to 15 in 1985). You would think that this would make people more skeptical about claims that geological scarcity was responsible when the shutdown of Venezuelan production and the second Gulf War cut off Iraqi supplies sent prices higher starting in 2003.

Comment: Another factor is that researchers may be mistaken about how oil reserves are formed. A few scientists have put forth a credible 'abiotic oil' theory, that oil reserves naturally renew themselves through chemical interactions deep in the Earth's mantle. Not 'dead dinosaurs' at all.

ICE arrests illegal alien wife-beater after Philadelphia refuses to honor judge's arrest warrant, releases him

An illegal alien convicted of assaulting his wife was released by the city of Philadelphia, and shortly thereafter rearrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Guillermo Leon-Sandoval, 35, was charged by Philadelphia police with unlawful bodily injury, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, and false imprisonment.

A federal judge then signed an active detainer and a criminal arrest order, but city authorities did not honor it.

After he was released, ICE rearrested Leon-Sandoval, who had been previously convicted of illegal entry in September 2014.

"The local government's goal of making Philadelphia a sanctuary city will not deter us from our mission of making communities safer nationwide and honoring immigration laws," Gregory Brawley, acting field officer director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Philadelphia, said in a statement. "In this case, the individual has been charged with recent violent crimes. We will continue to pursue individuals such as this for arrest and removal."

After visiting World Cup in Russia, England fan shames British media claiming 'clear propaganda' against an 'absolutely class country'

Despite upsetting its fans and yielding to Belgium 0-1 at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, England managed to make it to the tournament's round of 16, where it will face Columbia on July 3.

Upon returning from Russia, English football fan Matt Maybury tweeted that he was safe and sound, blaming British media for "clear propaganda" pertaining to the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Maybury's remarks came after The Independent cited a team of police spotters monitoring travelling fans as saying that there was "a good atmosphere" between supporters of England's national team and those of rival nations.

Comment: For all intents and purposes, Russia has been a gracious host for the World Cup this year as the media propaganda has been exposed for what it is - shameless Russia-bashing.

73% of swing voters oppose Democrats' plan to abolish ICE

ice agent arrest
The vast majority of swing voters across the United States oppose the Democrats' latest plan to abolish all immigration enforcement by ending the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency.

In recent weeks, Democrats in the House and Senate, along with progressive liberals like Cynthia Nixon in New York and most recently insurgent Democrat candidate for Congress, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, have been demanding ICE be abolished and all immigration enforcement be ended. House Democrats are now crafting legislation that would officially abolish ICE.

The latest Harvard/Harris Poll, though, reveals that swing voters are overwhelmingly opposed to the Democrats' plan to end all immigration enforcement across the U.S.

Nearly 3-in-4 swing voters, about 73 percent, of swing voters said they do not want ICE to be disbanded. Less than 30 percent of swing voters said they support the abolishment of ICE.

Likewise, Americans in general oppose the Democrats' plan to abolish ICE. Nearly 70 percent of Americans polled in the Harvard/Harris Poll said they do not support ending ICE and thus all immigration enforcement.

Comment: In the history of ideas, totally open borders is one of the stupidest. Why 30% of Americans don't realize this is somewhat mind-boggling. For whatever reasons, their reality-perception has flipped upside down: they see threats where there aren't any, and the real threats provoke no response whatsoever in their consciousness. It's a mass mental illness: hysteria, hallucination, transmarginal inhibition.

There's a problem at the border: Fraudulent parents crossing with children who aren't theirs

immigrant children
President Trump signed an executive order this week allowing adults who illegally enter the United States with children, claiming to be family units, to be detained together in federal facilities.

The question of a valid parental-child relationship is at the center of how the Department of Homeland Security and Health and Human Services handle detainment. Because of fraudulent documentation, profits to smugglers, and false asylum claims, there is essentially no way to prove or verify adults traveling with children are indeed their parents.

In April 2016, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley warned about catch-and-release policies enabling the smuggling industry. In the past, any non-Mexican or Canadian individual illegally crossing the border with a child was considered a family unit, processed and released into the interior. Current zero-tolerance policies require they be detained until prosecution.

"A recent Department of Homeland Security (DHS) report confirmed that human smuggling rings are exploiting children in order to prevent the detention of the undocumented immigrants they're smuggling into the United States. They are pairing children with unrelated adults, knowing adults who enter the United States with children won't be detained," he said.

"At least one Honduran interviewed by DHS officials reported that children are kidnapped or adopted then smuggled with their unrelated adult "family member" to the United States. This smuggling practice has bolstered an underground market for counterfeit birth certificates according to the report, which was prepared by the DHS Human Smuggling Cell. Once in the U.S., these children are vulnerable to labor or sex trafficking," he continued.

Fast-forward to 2018 and this is still the case.

Comment: It's easy to be moved by images of suffering children (Nicholas Nassim Taleb calls it pedophrasty). But the problem is that situations are rarely so simple, so black and white. For all the people concerned about children separated from their parents, please consider that many of those children have already been separated from their parents, and are being exploited by the people crossing the border, pretending the children are their own. The situation is complex, and so are the solutions.

Veterans with PTSD group shut down by Facebook

Mark Zuckerberg
© The Associated Press
Facebook shut down a support page for veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder, claiming the page breached "community guidelines."

According to the Daily Mail, Facebook "closed Fill Your Boots UK (FYB UK) after claiming its content, which included discussions with mentally ill soldiers who were considering ending their lives, breached 'community' guidelines."

"Soldiers suffering from combat-induced traumas after serving in Iraq and Afghanistan would post 'cries for help' on the page on an almost daily basis," they explained, adding, "FYB UK would then issue SOS messages, asking other veterans to rush to their aid."

Comment: It is now well beyond reasonable to assume Facebook is a neutral social media site. They repeatedly take actions that are injurious to their users in a flagrant manner, many of the decisions seemingly entirely arbitrary. How can one conclude they are anything but evil?

Seattle Police Officers Guild VP: Officers 'fed up' with city's politics are leaving the force

seattle police
A Seattle Police Officers Guild official says many officers are leaving the city's police department because they're "fed up" with Seattle's politics.

Rich O'Neill, the group's vice president, said Sunday on "Fox & Friends" that "a number of issues" are weighing down on the city's officers, causing them to find work elsewhere.

According to Q13 FOX, 41 officers have left the city's police department this year, many of whom frustrated by the city's politics.

O'Neill told Q13 FOX that local officials "are allowing certain crimes to go on without accountability."

Comment: Looking at past SOTT articles involving the Seattle Police gives a different picture of what's really going on there. It's hard to have sympathy for a corrupt force.

Vancouver restaurant manager gets fired after denying service to a customer wearing a MAGA hat

A manager at a popular seafood restaurant in Vancouver, Canada, learned an unforgettable lesson from his boss after he denied service to a customer wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat inside the restaurant.

What happened?

Up until this week, Darin Hodge was a manager at the Teahouse in Stanley Park in Vancouver, one of the city's most popular seafood establishments. By Thursday, he was out of a job.

It all started when a patron donning the "MAGA" hat sat down for dinner on Tuesday. When Hodge, the manager on duty at the time, spotted the man outside on the restaurant's patio, he confronted the pro-Trump customer, according to CBC News.

Andy Crimp, the restaurant's general manager, explained to CBC that Hodge demanded the man remove his "MAGA" hat - or be refused service.
