FBI report finds agents mishandled evidence after Manchester bombing

Four FBI employees mishandled sensitive information provided by British intelligence following last year's suicide bombing in Manchester, a justice department watchdog said on Wednesday.

Photographs and evidence gathered following the attack at the Manchester Arena were quickly leaked to US media, prompting Theresa May to complain to Donald Trump while British police temporarily stopped sharing intelligence with their American counterparts.

The US justice department's inspector general's office said on Wednesday it was unable to pinpoint the source of the leaks, but that it had found misconduct by four of the more than 1,000 bureau employees who received an email containing the intelligence.

Findings from the inquiry have been passed to the FBI for "appropriate action", according to the inspector general's office. "All four individuals denied providing the UK Intelligence Report, or information contained in it" to the New York Times, the report said.

'The Exhausted Majority': Study finds most Americans strongly dislike PC culture

On social media, the country seems to divide into two neat camps: Call them the woke and the resentful. Team Resentment is manned - pun very much intended - by people who are predominantly old and almost exclusively white. Team Woke is young, likely to be female, and predominantly black, brown, or Asian (though white "allies" do their dutiful part). These teams are roughly equal in number, and they disagree most vehemently, as well as most routinely, about the catchall known as political correctness.

Reality is nothing like this. As scholars Stephen Hawkins, Daniel Yudkin, Miriam Juan-Torres, and Tim Dixon argue in a report published Wednesday, "Hidden Tribes: A Study of America's Polarized Landscape," most Americans don't fit into either of these camps. They also share more common ground than the daily fights on social media might suggest-including a general aversion to PC culture.

The study was written by More in Common, an organization founded in memory of Jo Cox, the British MP who was murdered in the run-up to the Brexit referendum. It is based on a nationally representative poll with 8,000 respondents, 30 one-hour interviews, and six focus groups conducted from December 2017 to September 2018.

More than a million UK residents live in "food deserts" - Poor, elderly and disabled worst affected

uk food shopping terrace houses
© Sam Frost for the GuardianThe Hartcliffe area of Bristol has been described as one of the UK's 'food deserts', where people may find it hard to access fresh produce.
More than a million people in the UK live in "food deserts" - neighbourhoods where poverty, poor public transport and a dearth of big supermarkets severely limit access to affordable fresh fruit and vegetables, a study has claimed.

Nearly one in 10 of the country's most economically deprived areas are food deserts, it says - typically large out-of-town housing estates and deprived inner-city wards served by a handful of small, relatively expensive corner shops.

Public health experts are concerned that these neighbourhoods - which are often also "food swamps" with high densities of fast-food outlets - are helping to fuel a rise in diet-related conditions such as obesity and diabetes, as well as driving food insecurity.

The most deprived areas include Marfleet in Hull, Hartcliffe in Bristol, Hattersley in Greater Manchester, Everton in Liverpool and Sparkbrook in Birmingham. Eight of Scotland's 10 most deprived food deserts are in Glasgow, and three of Wales's nine worst are in Cardiff.

Comment: While government nutritional guidelines are up for question, what is clear is that UK poverty is skyrocketing - with millions resorting to food banks - and in turn the health of a nation is plummeting: Life expectancy for poorest girls in England falls for first time since 1920s

Feminist poster banned because it could 'offend trans people'

woman definition billboard
Kellie-Jay Keen-Minshull took her campaign to Scotland after paying for a billboard in Liverpool that was described as hate speech.
The definition of "woman" was banned from the sides of buses in Edinburgh over fears it could offend trans people and the rest of the general public.

Kellie-Jay Keen-Minshull, 44, paid more than £2,000 for the word, with the slogan #adulthumanfemale, to appear on ten buses in the Scottish capital.

However, she received a refund after Exterion Media, the company that controls advertising space for Lothian Buses, refused to display the adverts on the grounds that the message was "likely to offend" the general public.

Comment: People need to grow up and understand the meaning of the word 'hate'. It's not a synonym for 'having a different point of view', nor is it 'facts that I'm not comfortable with'. Hate speech laws have always been extremely problematic for this very reason - a completely unclear definition of what actually constitutes hate speech. And when the definition becomes so murky that a dictionary definition can fall under the hate speech umbrella, surely the end is nigh.

Israel fines New Zealand women $18,000 for harming fans "artistic welfare" by urging Lorde concert boycott

An Israel court has ordered two New Zealand women to pay damages for harming the "artistic welfare" of three Israeli teenagers after the pop star Lorde cancelled a planned performance in Tel Aviv.

Judge Mirit Fohrer ruled that Justine Sachs and Nadia Abu-Shanab of New Zealand must pay damages to Israeli teenagers Shoshana Steinbach, Ayelet Wertzel and Ahuva Frogel totalling more than NZ$18,000 for writing a letter urging the singer to cancel her concert in Tel Aviv, the Jerusalem Post reports.

It is believed to be the first effective use of a 2011 Israeli law allowing civil lawsuits of anyone who encourages a boycott of Israel.

The Israeli teenagers claimed their "artistic welfare" was damaged because of the cancellation and that they suffered "damage to their good name as Israelis and Jews".

While other countries in Europe struggle with deportations, Switzerland's statistics office has claimed that the country has deported over 1,000 criminal migrants in 2017.

According to the Swiss Federal Statistical Office, 1,039 foreign criminals were ordered to be deported from the country last year, with the largest number, 348, coming from the Balkans, 20 Minutes reports.

Africans made up 250 of those deported, 157 from North Africa and 93 from the Western African region. Nationals from European Union member states made up 279 of those deported, a fact which may violate the Schengen agreement which Switzerland is a signatory to.

Best of the Web: Kanye West's insightful statements are ignored in favor of mockery, derision

Kanye West is currently the laughingstock of the Beltway press corps, but despite his pro-Trump positions and somewhat nativist lines of critique, the rapper showed an understanding of a host of issues in America that East Coast elite thought leaders rarely mention.

US President Donald Trump met with two prominent musicians on Thursday - Kanye West and Kid Rock - when signing the Music Modernization Act. West, it seems, broke the internet with his remarks, which were derided by journalists as "incoherent." While West's remarks were at times bizarre, slightly misogynist and, let's say, braggadocious, he used the opportunity to address real issues, displaying a dedication to talking about important topics like prison reform, a responsibility which mainstream journalists have largely reneged on.

While some of the hip-hop star's remarks were indeed difficult to understand and perhaps nonsensical, it is important to remember that he is a performer. Other issues the musician spoke about - often using metaphor - showed that West is a lot more politically astute than standard characterizations of him acknowledge.

How Russia is revamping Moscow to be one of Europe's most vibrant cities

Moscow Selfies
© Pascal Dumont/CBCWhen it comes to public spaces, the people of Moscow are experiencing a new kind of freedom.
In Moscow, Soviet-era drab and tacky are out.

Classy building facades, urban greenery, bike-sharing and pedestrian-only streets are in. And Canadian architect Michael Geller says it's stunning to see how fast the transformation has happened.

"They [visitors] expect it to be grey, dirty and full of graffiti, but it's none of that," Geller says admiringly, as he sips a craft beer at a patio in Kuznetsky Most, a coffee shop- and eatery-filled neighbourhood just a few blocks from the Kremlin.

While many western observers propagandists would consider Russia's authoritarian political system repressive, when it comes to public spaces the people in the capital are experiencing a new kind of freedom.

It's a sort of urbanism in overdrive.

"I am impressed in the last two years," Geller says of the new, polished feel of the downtown. "There is no doubt a lot of money has been spent. It's fabulous."

A frequent guest lecturer and judge for Russian architectural competitions, Strelka — one of Moscow's top urban design firms — has invited Geller to the city seven times in recent years to share Canada's best practices with young Russian designers.

Strelka has led many of the most prominent redevelopments in Moscow, including building facelifts, street redesigns and the creation of new green spaces.

Comment: Leave it to the the CBC, the leftist propaganda outlet masquerading as Canada's public broadcaster, to take a perfectly decent and positive story about Russian urban renewal, and twist it into some wickedly diabolical scheme by the evil mastermind Vladimir Putin to secure his political future.

It is inconceivable to highly paid propagators of Russophobia like Michal Murawski, a British scholar with the University College of London's School of Slavonic and Eastern European Studies, that President Putin might be motivated to spend money on city infrastructure because he actually cares about improving the lives of the people in his country.

Send a message to liberals: Prosecute Dr. Ford for lying under oath

blasey ford kavanaugh hearing
Christine Blasey Ford

It Began 30 Years Ago.

The Judge Brett Kavanaugh appointment fiasco is just a recent example of more than 30 years of horrendous mistreatment of Republican nominees organized by the Democrat leadership. Of course liberals were aided by allies in the mainstream media and radical progressive organizations.

Then-US Senator Joe Biden (yes...THAT Joe Biden), created a ridiculous strategy known as the "Biden Report." It remained the Liberal playbook in opposing Republican Judicial nominees for the next several decades.

The lead-off was the 'self-proclaimed' pseudo-"Liberal Lion" of the US Senate when he dared to impugn the character, intellect, and integrity of the late-judge and scholar Robert Bork:

Why is Taylor Swift a 'brave role model' and Kanye West a 'token Negro, Uncle Tom'?

Kanye and Taylor Swift
One thing's for sure about the mainstream media: They're predictable.

Take the recent blockbuster story that singer Taylor Swift prefers Democrats over Republicans. Yes, the 28-year-old who dropped out of high school and later earned a GED, on Sunday declared that she opposes Tennessee Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn, a Republican.

"Her voting record in Congress appalls and terrifies me. These are not MY Tennessee values," Swift wrote on Instagram. "I always have and always will cast my vote based on which candidate will protect and fight for the human rights I believe we all deserve in this country."

"I believe in the fight for LGBTQ rights, and that any form of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender is WRONG. I believe that the systemic racism we still see in this country towards people of color is terrifying, sickening and prevalent," she wrote. Swift also said she would not vote for someone "who will not be willing to fight for dignity for ALL Americans, no matter their skin color, gender or who they love."
