Most of us are not participating in the hysterical rage shown on the news

news screens
If you were to read about the United States of America from someplace else, you'd probably think it was a nation full of people who are gearing up to go to war. Anyone would think the same thing from what they saw in the media. You would see hysterical rage fueling terrible acts. You'd see the intense hatred between people who belong to different political parties. You'd believe this is nationwide.

But it's not. Sure, there's some tension if you talk politics, but in most places, it isn't crazy in a life-threatening kind of way. Mostly, it's pretty friendly.

But this isn't the America of the media

When I went through the news today to search for a writing topic, it was like being hit with a wall of despair. Parts of the country are truly in bad shape. The venomous hatred is like nothing I've ever seen in this nation.

Liberal outrage strikes out at Dwayne Johnson because he's not black enough to play folklore legend John Henry in new Netflix movie

Dwayne Johnson
Not everybody is happy that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is set to play folklore legend John Henry. The actor posted a teaser for "John Henry and the Statesmen" on Instagram on Tuesday. Henry is an African-American folk hero who, as a steel driver, raced against a steam machine and won, giving up his life in the process.

Johnson wrote on Instagram that he's excited to play one of his "childhood heroes." In the upcoming Netflix film, he will lead an ensemble of "the most popular folklore figures and legends from different cultures around the world." He continued, "@NETFLIX is the perfect partner & platform to bring these global folklore icons to life. ... The legend of JOHN HENRY'S strength, endurance, dignity and cultural pride was instilled in my DNA at a very young age. My dad would sing 'Big John' to me every time he would put me to bed." He released a brief video teaser along with the announcement.

Australia is considering banning new migrants from big cities

Australia is considering banning new migrants from living in its largest cities, under new plans to reduce congestion in urban areas.

Government data reveals that nearly 70% of the 186,000 migrants who moved to Australia last year arrived on skilled migrant visas and nearly all of them settled in Sydney or Melbourne.

Comment: Australia will welcome (sort of) high skill candidates but it has hardly been welcoming to refugees.

American terrorism: Antifa hits New York GOP club and warns that 'this is only the beginning'

Antifa grafitti
Antifa thugs threatened an escalation of violence against a 130 year old, mild-mannered social club for Republicans in New York City after vandalizing the establishment overnight.

Volunteers at the Metropolitan Club on New York City's Upper East Side woke Friday morning to spray paint blasted across the front of their building, windows broken, locks glued shut, and a threatening note left by antifa terrorists promising an escalation of violence if the club refused to disinvite speaker Gavin McInnes.

All week local antifa cells have organized on Twitter and Facebook to show up at tonight's speech by McInnes to cause violence and intimidation with the hope of shutting down the event. This morning club members found giant letters 'A' spray painted in yellow on the front of the building alongside a note. A window was broken and locks were damaged with glue.

Kids are lacking in basic life skills - bring back home economics

home ec class
As I begin to prepare for next semester's classes, I consider what my students need to learn. What aspects of my class will prepare them for the real world?

The educational system needs to do the same thing.

Every semester I have a week of "math lab" in my college reporting class. The words strike fear in my students. Their eyes roll back in their heads, they foam at the mouth, they sputter the words, "But I'm a liberal arts major."

It's not that bad, really. We cover things like what property tax changes mean for their rent, how interest rates affect their car or credit card payments, and how a 5 percent raise affects their paychecks.

We seldom get past property taxes before they start realizing that if they own property, they will pay property taxes forever. And it always surprises me that they don't already know this.

UK MPs place multiple calls to immigration enforcement hotline; charities are outraged

UK politicians have been accused of breaching the trust of their constituents after it was revealed that an immigration enforcement hotline was called 68 times by MPs or their staff in the last year.

Of the 68 calls from MPs, 34 were from Tories, 32 from Labour, one from the Lib Dems, and one from the DUP.

Charities have argued that people should not have to fear their own MPs. They have written to Commons Speaker John Bercow, demanding that lawmakers pledge not to inform on their own constituents.

Of the 107 MPs that have already signed up to the pledge, only one - Heidi Allen - is a Tory.

The stats were unveiled in written questions by Labour MP David Lammy, which also revealed that between September 30, 2012, and May 25, 2018, MPs were responsible for 723 reports to the Home Office over alleged immigration abuses.

You get 'harassed and rushed off' if you disagree with liberal elements, Ron Paul tells RT

In the US, activists mostly harass and intimidate those disagreeing with the liberal agenda, former congressman Ron Paul told RT. Tensions are rising despite Republicans and Democrats sharing many similar traits.

"If people don't agree with the liberal elements, they can be harassed and rushed off. Rights are being abused," the libertarian politician stated. "A lot of us are hoping it doesn't get violent."

This is true not only during the street protests, Paul noted, but also at college campuses where liberal and left-wing campaigners have been trying to shut down and chase away conservative speakers. On several occasions, their tactics led to intense scuffles and even riots. Loud activists have also been ambushing politicians and government officials during off-duty hours and surrounding their offices. High-profile figures like Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Homeland Security chief Kirstjen Nelsen were driven out of restaurants, while Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ) was cornered and shouted at in an elevator.

Child sex dolls make their way back onto Amazon's offer list; critics call for their immediate removal

The Seattle-based online retail platform temporary ditched controversial sales several months ago, in the wake of a similar backlash, but vendors appeared to have restored their child-like, flesh-pleasing 18+ toys on their offer list.

Campaigners have lashed out at the retail giant Amazon for selling in its adult section sex dolls that they say look strikingly like youngsters. The dolls are not advertised as silicone "kids," but they reportedly have the looks of young girls, thereby sparking concerns that their adult users may go on to abuse children next.

"It's outrageous Amazon is selling these appalling sex dolls that appear to look like children clearly aimed at those who fantasize about sexually abusing children," Barnardo's Chief Executive Javed Khan told the Sun Online, going on afterwards to call for the retailer to scrap the dubious sales.

Arnold Schwarzenegger apologizes for using the term 'girlie men'

Arnold Schwarzenegger
Arnold Schwarzenegger
Arnold Schwarzenegger used to joke that only "girlie men" opposed energetic capitalism and traditional American values. But now, the former bodybuilder, Hollywood star, and California governor is apologizing for popularizing the phrase.

Schwarzenegger once made a name for himself with his he-man political style, making fun of his opponents as weaklings who could not lead.

At least as early as 2004 Schwarzenegger called California Democrats "girlie men" and noted that in the next election the GOP would "terminate" them. His phrase even became the stuff of Saturday Night Live parody in the characters of faux bodybuilders Hans and Franz.

These amusing taunts and his strongman persona eventually led Schwarzenegger to the governor's mansion in California.

Comment: Does apologizing in the name of political correctness and appeasing to the Left make one a girlie man?

Facebook says hackers accessed data of 29 million social network users

Facebook
Facebook has admitted that hackers accessed the data of 29 million users on the social network by using people's friends lists to steal access tokens.

The social network addressed the September attack on Friday, saying in a statement that it is cooperating with the FBI, which is "actively investigating." Facebook added that the bureau has asked it not to discuss who may be behind the attack.
