Ridiculous! U.S. Senate Republicans want Iran to pay for terror victims

Congressional Republicans in the United States have been fiercely opposed to the Iran nuclear deal. With the US prepared to roll back sanctions against Tehran, some of these lawmakers have taken a last ditch effort to financially punish the Iranian government, introducing legislation to use Iranian assets to pay the victims of terrorist attacks.

Last month, Senate Republicans introduced a bill which would prevent the Obama administration from carrying through with the lifting of sanctions against Iran. That bill failed miserably.

But that doesn't mean Republicans are giving up. This week, Pennsylvania Representative Pat Meehan will sponsor the Justice for Victims of Iranian Terrorism Act.

"There are some $43.5 billion in judgements which have been rendered under American law for victims of acts of Iranian terror," Meehan told reporters.

"Despite this, not one cent has been paid by Iran. This is an opportunity to change that dynamic."

If passed, the legislation would allow the US government to freeze any Iranian assets in order to pay individuals who have been awarded Iranian money from US courts.

Outgoing House Speaker John Boehner gave his support to the bill, saying it would be unfair to "provide Iran with about $100 billion of their assets locked up in Western banks, without first paying the victims of Iranian terrorism."

The bill has its share of critics, not least of whom is Sarah Shourd.

Russia in Syria: War on Fascism?

Image
It's been a busy week for the Nefarium after Mr. Putin's speech at the UN, basically calling out the USA on its fake war on terror, its support for radical Islamicists, and its track record of ruin in the Middle East, and now, there are noises involving China and Germany:

Putin's blitz against ISIS in Syria leaves Washington rankled and confused

Image
On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered a blistering critique of US foreign policy to the UN General Assembly.

On Tuesday, Barack Obama shoved a knife in Putin's back. This is from Reuters:
"France will discuss with its partners in the coming days a proposal by Turkey and members of the Syrian opposition for a no-fly zone in northern Syria, French President Francois Hollande said on Monday...

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius "in the coming days will look at what the demarcation would be, how this zone could be secured and what our partners think," Hollande told reporters on the sidelines of the annual United Nations General Assembly...

Hollande said such a proposal could eventually be rubber-stamped with a U.N. Security Council resolution that "would give international legitimacy to what's happening in this zone."...(France, partners to discuss northern Syria 'safe zone': Hollande, Reuters)
Hollande is a liar and a puppet. He knows the Security Council will never approve a no-fly zone. Russia and China have already said so. And they've explained why they are opposed to it, too. It's because they don't want another failed state on their hands like Libya, which is what happened last time the US and NATO imposed a no-fly zone.

Genocide in Palestine: An exception to free speech

Image
The signs of Israel's pressure on Palestinians is evident by the actions of the Israeli police in the region.
The religious discrimination shown by Israel has once again appeared in the Rabab Abdulhadi case. The extremist pro-Israeli group AMCHA, which operates at many U.S. universities in order to research Palestinian academics and students, accuses Abdulhadi of misusing university funds and meeting with terrorist groups

The case of Rabab Abdulhadi, a professor of race and resistance at San Francisco State University, is paradigmatic of the experiences of Palestinian academics and advocates of Palestine in American colleges. Beginning in March 2014, professor Abdulhadi was targeted by AMCHA, an extremist pro-Israeli group operating in a number of U.S. campuses, for a sabbatical research trip to Palestine. AMCHA erroneously accused Abdulhadi of misusing university funds and meeting with terrorist. The attacks on Abdulhadi were part of a coordinated campaign directed at academics critical of Israel and the faculty that undertook the primary research on Palestinians living under occupation. AMCHA's efforts were directed at silencing academics like Abdulhadi at a time when university students, faculty and staff have become far more pro-active in their solidarity and support of the Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement (BDS).

Palestine Legal, a nonprofit legal and advocacy organization supporting Palestine activism published, a report, "The Palestine Exception to Free Speech: A movement Under Attack in the U.S.," meticulously documented attacks directed at curtailing pro-Palestine speech among student groups, faculty members and academics in universities.

In 2014, Palestine Legal staff "responded to 152 incidents of censorship, punishment, or other burdening of advocacy for Palestinian rights and 68 requests for legal assistance in anticipation of such actions." More alarmingly, Palestine Legal "responded to 140 such incidents and 33 such requests for assistance in anticipation of potential suppression in the first six months of 2015, the vast majority (89 percent in 2014, 80 percent in 2015) involving college students, university professors, or academic associations."

Iraqi official: Hajj stampede was plot by Saudi Arabia to abduct Iranian

Image
A senior Iraqi politician described the tragic Mina incident as a plot by the Saudi regime to abduct the Iranian and Iraqi officials who were participating in This year's Hajj rituals during the chaos that followed the stampede.

"The Mina disaster was an engineered tragedy (by Saudi Arabia) to kidnap the Iraqi and Iranian officials on the pretext of the Mina incident," Head of Iraq's Sadeqoun Coalition Hassan Salem said on Tuesday.

Salem said that Saudi Arabia is not qualified to host the Hajj pilgrimage due to its support for terrorism.

The Iraqi official reiterated that the Hajj pilgrims also suffered from the Saudi terrorism in Mina and the convoy of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman caused the death of thousands pilgrims, and said, "Many of these pilgrims are the Iraqi and Iranian officials who have been abducted."

The European Union is ready to play a key role in the political settlement of the Syrian crisis under the auspices of the United Nations, EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini's spokeswoman said Thursday.

"The EU called again for renewed international effort led by the UN to bring an end to the war, and it confirmed that it is ready to put all its political weight to try and facilitate a solution to this conflict," Catherine Ray told reporters.

Ray observed that the bloc is not involved militarily in airstrikes against the Islamic State extremist group, but is engaged in "complimentary" activities, including humanitarian efforts and victim assistance.

Self-defense forces from Donetsk in eastern Ukraine have handed over the remaining debris from the MH17 crash to experts from the Netherlands. The Dutch Safety Board were unaware fragments of the plane were still in Donetsk until an RT documentary aired.

Comment: Are they serious?! The wreckage has been lying there out in the open all this time. They didn't see it the first time?

"Today, we have handed over to the Dutch 576 fragments of the Malaysian Boeing, which were unearthed in the villages of Grabovo and Rassypnoe [where flight MH17 crashed in July 2014]," Marina Pozhidaeva from Donetsk local authorities told Interfax.

The pieces of wreckage were surrendered to the investigating team in the presence of OSCE representative.

"We hope that the delivered fragments will be considered during the investigation ...and thus help to establish the true culprits behind this tragedy," Pozhidaeva added.

Islamic State and Nazi Germany: Ten similarities

Islamic State fighters

On September 30, Russia conducted its first airstrikes against ISIL, one of the most notorious and violent terrorist organization in the modern world. The Russian offensive was required by the regime of Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad and will be in coordination with Western and regional powers.

According to the Russian President, the purpose of the offensive is a preemptive strike against militants which are currently terrorizing large areas of Syria and Iraq.

The fact that Russia has taken the lead in fighting a global evil incarnate easily draws analogues from history. And sometimes history tends to repeat itself. Seventy years ago the Soviet Union defeated the Third Reich, a pure evil which wanted to conquer the world under the banners of Nazism and militarism.

Comment: Interesting to think of the parallels here. Remember, Russia dealt the defeating blow to the Nazis. If anything, the U.S. just imported fascism across the Atlantic...

Assad advisor: The intentions of the U.S. in Syria was not to fight terrorism at all

Image

There isn't a grain of truth in John Kerry's statement the Assad government isn't trying to stop ISIS; the Syrian army has been fighting terrorists, while the West watched the country being destroyed, says Syrian presidential adviser Bouthaina Shaaban

RT: Russia has joined the fight against Islamic State. How long have you been negotiating the move with Moscow?

Bouthaina Shaaban: The dialogue between us [Damascus] and Moscow has been ongoing since the beginning of the crisis. And, as you noticed, that Russia and China took a double veto four times against all that the West was trying to impose on Syria. Because the West didn't understand what's happening in Syria, while Russia understood all the way along. So, the dialogue between Damascus and Moscow is ongoing... [since] a decade ago; but during this crisis it has been intensive, it has been real, it has been continuous.

RT: Is the involvement of Russian aviation a game changer in the fight against IS?

BS: Well, there are no Russian troops on the ground as you heard Putin and Lavrov [saying] - "our assistance is only [fighter jets]." But it's not only against IS. I don't know why people... forget about Jabhat Al-Nusra, although the [UN] Security Council resolution spoke about or considered both Al-Nusra and ISIL as terrorist organizations.

Besides these, there are tens of terrorist organizations in Syria. There are thousands of mercenaries and terrorists coming from all over the world. So, we certainly hope that with the help of the Russian assistance we will be able to undermine terrorism in Syria and we'll be able to restore peace and security in our country.

Putin's strategy in Syria has worked like a charm. First, there were around 2 weeks of murky, rumor-filled reports of a build-up of Russian military activity in Tartus and Latakia, Syria. Some were false, some had a seed of truth, but it got everyone talking -- this at the same time that Western media was hyping the refugee crisis and the danger of ISIS 'infiltrating Europe'. Second, there was talk of a new coalition to fight ISIS. This irked the West: Russian assistance in Latakia makes any no-fly zone in Syria a no-go. And a real coalition risks actually defeating ISIS, which the West doesn't really want. (They were counting on ISIS as the means or pretext of taking out Assad.) Now, quick on the heels of Putin's talk at the UN and his meeting with Obama, Russia has begun airstrikes in Syria using the West's own pretext - the threat of radicalized nationals 'returning home' . (Of course, Russia has other reasons for going to Syria, too.)

Already, after just one day of airstrikes, the U.S. has pretty much folded, stating that they are stopping any additional training of radical Syrian jihadis, and 'adjusting' their policy regarding Assad, at least temporarily. News is coming fast, so here are a few of the highlights from the past two days. (Check out Joe Quinn's SOTT Focus for some real gems from yesterday's news.)

Russian Defense Ministry releases video of first day's airstrikes (Russian TASS - Sept. 30)

The footage shows what Russia identifies as ISIS command posts, destroying ammunition depots, weapons, fuel, and military equipment storage in the mountainous areas. As noted by Defense Ministry-General Major Igor Konashenkov, "all strikes were done after aerial reconnaissance and better clarify the data obtained from the headquarters of the Syrian army. According to him, Russian aircraft and weapons have not been used in the vicinity of civilian infrastructure."
