Ukraine, Saudi Arabia and .. ISIS oppose Russian operation in Syria

The Chairman of the International Affairs Committee of the State Duma Alexei Pushkov on his social network page expressed his surprise that there were only two countries in the international community - Saudi Arabia and Ukraine, which condemned the Russian air strikes on the positions of the terrorist organization "Islamic state" in Syria.

According to Pushkov, there is no justification for countries, speaking in defense of ISIS.

"Only Saudi Arabia and Ukraine have condemned our actions in Syria. A strange "coalition". They will not find support among the international public opinion. It is impossible to defend ISIS," - wrote Pushkov on Twitter.

Comment: Russian officials are doing an excellent job of making their more pathological counterparts look like fools.

Best of the Web: 'Humanitarian' propaganda war against Syria - Led by Avaaz and The White Helmets

avaaz propaganda
Global civic organization Avaaz: Not what it pretends to be
"Propaganda is the spreading of information in support of a cause. It's not so important whether the information is true or false or if the cause is just or not — it's all propaganda."

"The word propaganda is often used in a negative sense, especially for politicians who make false claims to get elected or spread rumours to instigate regime change [sic]. In fact, any campaign that is used to persuade can be called propaganda."
Russia's involvement in Syria has caused a flurry of "cold war", Assad/ISIS co-dependency propaganda, all being produced by the usual suspects and all with the primary objective of invoking a No Fly Zone in Syria and stoking the "Russian Bear threat" fires that have been smouldering for some time.

I am going to attempt to dismantle this propaganda edifice one brick at a time.

Syria today, Iraq tomorrow? Russia says if Iraq asks, Russia will engage ISIS there too

Haider al-Abadi
Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi
Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said that he "would welcome" Russian air force strikes on positions of "Islamic state" in Iraq. Russia will consider Iraq's request for help, if it comes officially.

In an interview with channel France 24, al-Abadi said that he would welcome Russian air force strikes on positions of "Islamic state" in Iraq, but so far there have been no such offers from Moscow.

"Not yet," he said, answering the question, if the possibility of strikes in his country was discussed with Russia.

"This is an opportunity. If we receive an offer from Russia of [military assistance], we will consider it, and I would welcome it," - said the Iraqi Premier. He also said that Baghdad has already received "a large volume of information" from Syria on the Islamic state (a terrorist organization banned in Russia).

Comment: Putin said the same about Syria at the UN. Two days later, Russia was conducting airstrikes in Syria. Is this a sign of things to come? See: Russia in Syria: When the propaganda is kind of true - Russia bombing 'U.S.-trained' nutjobs

Saudi Arabia silently kills UN war crimes probe in Yemen: While Washington remains eerily quiet

Yemen
© Mohamed al-Sayaghi / ReutersPeople gather at the site of a Saudi-led air strike which targeted a tunnel leading to the presidential house near the Petrol Station in Yemen's capital Sanaa, October 1, 2015.
The Netherlands dropped their bid to establish an independent UN-led probe into alleged war crimes in Yemen, yielding to an alternative resolution proposed by Saudi Arabia, which stands accused of causing most of the civilian deaths in the conflict.
The Saudis are leading a coalition of countries, which since late March has been using their military to attack Houthi rebels in Yemen in an attempt to put ousted President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi back into power. According to UN numbers published on Tuesday, at least 2,355 civilians have been killed during the six months of the conflict. The majority of them died in Saudi attacks.

The latest of alleged atrocities in the Yemen war is an apparent Saudi airstrike that killed 131 guests at a wedding party. The Saudis, who have air superiority in Yemeni airspace, denied any involvement.

According to Amnesty International, many civilian killings in Yemen can be considered war crimes. In September, UN human rights chief Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein called for an independent, international inquiry into alleged war crimes in the country. The Netherlands submitted a draft resolution to the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) shortly after, which among other things called for UN experts to be sent to Yemen to investigate allegations of crimes committed by all parties involved. The proposal was backed by a number of European countries.

Putin and Obama's UN showdown helps expose US complicity in ISIS terrorism

Image

This week's annual United Nations General Assembly summit brought the rare occasion of Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin face-to-face attending the same momentous session. With Obama appearing peevish and sheepish, the Russian strongman took center stage
targeting the US president's failed policy and leadership in his crosshairs:
Rather than bringing about reforms, an aggressive foreign interference has resulted in a brazen destruction of national institutions and life itself. Instead of the triumph of democracy and progress, we got violence, poverty and social disaster. Nobody cares a bit about human rights, including the right to life. I cannot help asking those who have caused the situation, do you realize now what you've done? But I am afraid no one is going to answer that. Indeed, policies based on self-conceit and belief in one's exceptionality and impunity have never been abandoned.

Comment: All too many are woefully poor in their knowledge of context; robbed, cheated, lied to, diverted and manipulated away from the facts, history and background of crucial world events. During WWII and its battle against the Axis powers, the US Government posed a question of its citizens through war films and print media: "are you doing your part?". Maybe they were on to something there that we, today, can utilize in humanity's war against psychopaths in positions of power. Not in picking up guns and joining this or that side in battle, no. But perhaps just sharing an article with some context. Because, sadly, the effects of this literal war on humanity is real, it is upon us, and right now is a moment to shine a light on history in the making.

'Russia hasn't killed a single civilian... the West lies to justify their own failures' says Syrian scholar

Image

No Syrian civilians were killed as a result of Russian airstrikes, as they're carried out with extreme precision, Deputy Director of the Damascus Center for International and Strategic Studies Dr. Taleb Ibrahim told Sputnik.

According to Ibrahim, Russians act very professionally and base their airstrikes on a series of sophisticated data taken from satellites, images from reconnaissance planes and intelligence services.

"All these Western media reports about Russians killing civilians are pure lies. During airstrikes, Russia hasn't killed a single civilian," Ibrahim said.

The scholar said he visited areas that were attacked during Russian airstrikes several months ago and can assure everyone that civilians had been long gone from these areas. Only militants are left there now.

Western media tries to misinform people. "They never talk about those civilians killed every day in Yemen, Iraq and Afghanistan. They never talk about their errors on training "moderate" opposition fighters," Ibrahim said.

Insult to our intelligence: New information war against Russia

Russian fighter planes

Talk about quick on the draw. No sooner had Russian planes taken off to bomb ISIS terrorists and their associates in Syria, claims made by the West's anti-Russia lobby started to flood in - only to be repeated in much of the western mainstream media.

Russia wasn't really targeting ISIS but "moderate rebels" and its strikes killed scores of innocent civilians (unlike US strikes during which we only get "collateral damage"). We've seen lots of tweets attacking Russia and pictures of injured children and people being pulled out of buildings posted online.

Now there's two possible explanations for the lightning fast way this new chapter in the "information war" against Russia has been launched.

The first is that the anti-Russian lobby have fantastic sources in Syria and know exactly who has been killed in air strikes moments after the bombs are dropped, or, in some cases possess clairvoyant powers and know who the victims will be even before the bombs fall. Also, that there are people on the ground with excellent high-speed Wi-Fi connections in a war zone who are able to post videos online of victims of Russian attacks with an alacrity that makes Usain Bolt look like a veritable slow coach.

The second alternative explanation is that the accusations and allegations that we've seen were already written up - filed and saved - and ready to be posted online as soon as Russia's parliament authorized the use of military force in Syria, in order to discredit the operation. Although air strikes, even if planned with surgical precision can kill civilians - which is of course the number one reason for opposing them - I know which explanation I find the more plausible.

Ukrainian Right Sector terrorizes Greek delegates, disrupts meeting with Odessa minorities

Ukrainian ultranationalists belonging to the extremist Right Sector movement have barred a Greek delegation, including former high-ranking officials, from exiting their hotel in the south-western Ukrainian port city of Odessa.

Several dozens of Right Sector activists were blocking a group of Greek citizens in hotel 'Duc', in the Ukrainian city of Odessa. The Greeks had been invited by the local Greek diaspora to take part in a round table discussion, TASS reported.

Comment: The Greek delegates went looking for clues as to the effect Right Sector has had on Ukrainian minorities. Instead, Right Sector showed up and gave them undeniable proof that they are terrorizing the population.

Netanyahu bashes Iran and the UN: Extols Israel's virtues

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu

In his speech at the UN General Assembly, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu accused Iran of aggressive behavior and sharply criticized the nuclear deal with Tehran. He also addressed relations with Palestine and berated the UN for alleged anti-Israeli bias.

Comment: Berated is mild for this spittle ridden speech.

The nuclear deal with Iran "doesn't make peace more likely," but only fuels Iran's aggression with billions of dollars and sanctions relief, thus making "war more likely," Benjamin Netanyahu said as he addressed the UN General Assembly on Thursday.

He then accused Iran of continued and consistent aggression. Netanyahu claimed that "only in the last six months" Iran boosted "supplies of devastating weapons" and sent Revolutionary Guard soldiers along with Shia fighters from Afghanistan and Pakistan to Syria.

Comment: Netanyahu's speech was full of anger and criticism towards everyone. He ended his speech extolling the "virtues" of Israel and states that the UN should "stand with Israel because Israel is not just defending itself, more than ever, Israel is defending you!" What could go wrong?

US whines and complains as Russia bombs its terrorists

Russia Syria flags
The New York Times in its recent article, "Russians Strike Targets in Syria, but Not ISIS Areas," attempts to frame Russia's recent actions in Syria as dishonest and dangerous. It reports:
Russian aircraft carried out a bombing attack against Syrian opposition fighters on Wednesday, including at least one group trained by the C.I.A., eliciting angry protests from American officials and plunging the complex sectarian war there into dangerous new territory.
This of course would only make Russia's actions dishonest or dangerous if groups trained by the US CIA were in fact the "moderates" the US claims they are. However, they are not, and thus Russia's actions are duly justified as is the expansion of their current policy.

Comment: Russia's actions in Syria are certainly a game changer. No doubt Washington's and Israel's think tanks are in overdrive.
