The Syrian Armed Forces Chief of the General Staff said that a refugee center was destroyed in a terrorist mortar attack on the outskirts of Homs.

The number of casualties is unknown yet, Lt. General Ali Abdullah Ayyoub said Wednesday.

According to him, the Ahrar ash-Sham terrorist group carried out the attack.

"A refugee center was destroyed during the intense mortar fire carried out by Ahrar ash-Sham terrorist group's militants on the Ter Maela suburb on the outskirts of Homs. There are casualties, but their number is yet to be confirmed. At least 6 home-made high-explosive mines fired from mortars were registered," the senior Syrian military commander said.

Earlier in October, the leader of the Ahrar ash-Sham, Chechen-born Abu Bakr al-Shishani, was reportedly killed by a Russian airstrike in the Syrian province of Homs.

Ahrar ash-Sham is the second largest terrorist group within the Jaish al-Fatah movement after the Nusra Front (Jabhat al-Nusra). In the spring of 2015, it was one of the militant groups which took over Ariha, Idlib, and Jisr al-Shughur in Syria's northwest, carrying out mass executions of locals.

EU tastes bitter fruit of sanctions war

Irish farmer John Ryan is angry. The Ukraine crisis has become a live issue for European farmers, he claims. The Russia-EU sanctions war has led to an over-supply of food and depressed prices. Meanwhile, the proposed integration of Ukraine with the EU could present new competition. "Farmers don't want Ukraine in the EU," says Mr Ryan. "In the first place, they have too much cheap wheat... the EU meddling there destroyed the agricultural sector because they had no foresight.

"If the euro drops any more and interest rates rise, the whole sector will crash," he warns.

In recent months, producers' frustrations have spilled over. On Sept. 3, thousands of farmers, accompanied by 1,500 tractors, blocked the major arteries into Paris. They were protesting against rising taxes and increasingly strict environmental standards, which, allied to plummeting food prices, have destroyed farm incomes.

Comment: The European Union is definitely feeling the pain of being vassals of the USA. How long before they stand up and say "Enough! No more!" ?

Greed traps former Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak - claim filed in US Federal Court for war crimes served at lucrative speaking engagement

Ehud Barak mavi marmara
Ehud Barak was the Israeli Defense Minister when the Mavi Marmara was attacked, resulting in the death of ten passengers.
Serving legal documents on high visibility persons who have been involved in international criminal acts is very difficult. However, the temptation of large honoraria for speeches in the United States tripped up a former Israeli Prime Minister who has been accused of war crimes for his involvement in the murders of ten passengers (nine were killed immediately and a seriously wounded passenger died after being in a coma for several years) on the Mavi Marmara in the 2010 Gaza Freedom Flotilla.

In a telephone press conference on October 21, the international legal team that filed the lawsuit against former Israeli Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Ehud Barak described how "legal process service" or official notification of a legal claim filed against him was done. The legal team knew Barak would be in Southern California giving three talks as a part of the Distinguished Speaker Series of Southern California and hired a commercial "certified process server" to deliver the court documents to Barak.

According to attorney Dan Stormer of the Los Angeles law firm Hadsell Stormer Renick LLP, on the evening of October 20 when Barak was scheduled to give a lecture in Thousand Oaks, California, the process server handed the documents to one of Barak's security team who, in the view of witnesses, handed the documents to Barak, thereby completing the official notification of Barak that a civil case against him had been filed in U.S. Federal Court.

Comment: May this be the first of many such lawsuits.

Yatsenyuk threatens moratorium on $3bn debt to Russia - Ukraine bluffing?

Kiev will suspend payments on Russian debt if Moscow does not agree to restructure the loan due in December, said Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseny Yatsenyuk in an interview with Handesblatt. The Kremlin has repeatedly said it's not interested.

If Moscow doesn't make concessions by October 29, Ukraine will refuse to pay the loan, said Yatsenyuk.

"This $3 billion was in reality a bribe from Russia, so that President Viktor Yanukovich would stop the Association Agreement with the EU," he added.

Ukraine has repeatedly said that its debt to Russia is private. The current IMF policy only allows member states to miss payments to private investors. Kremlin insists that Kiev's debt is a state one and is ready to go to court if Ukraine fails to pay in December.

The question of Russian debt is crucial to Ukraine, because the country's possible default would put into jeopardy a $17.5 billion loan promised by the IMF.

Comment: Ukraine can't afford to defend itself in court. Russia isn't likely play around either. Regardless, it will be interesting to see what the IMF does.

Reality bites: Two promoters of the "Syrian Revolution" give up

FSA gun runners
Jihadists on the "Free Syrian Army": "The best arms sellers we have are the FSA. If they get a good weapon they sell it to us."
Two prominent fans and promoters of the unicorn Free Syrian Army and its "revolution" are giving up.

Since the start of the regime change operation in Syria Jenan Moussa, who works for the UAE based Al Aan TV, is an ardent fan of the "moderate rebels". Her embedded reports about them were more one sided anti-regime propaganda than journalism. She is quite prominent with over 100,000 followers on Twitter.

But her honeymoon with the FSA seems to be over. She finally recognizes that the FSA is a mere weapon courier service between the CIA and Saudis on one side and al-Qaeda and the Islamic State on the other:

@jenanmoussa
This is main problem of FSA in Hama/Idlib: Yes, FSA still exists, but they dont control territory. If they disobey radicals, FSA is out. >

The U.S. backed moderate rebel fighters from the "Free Syrian Army" (FSA) have released more images from the Hama Governorate's northern countryside; this time, the images include the mutilated heads of captured Syrian Arab Army (SAA) soldiers that were executed by these alleged "moderates" over the weekend.

In addition to the images released, the U.S. backed moderate rebels that are allied with the Syrian Al-Qaeda group "Jabhat Al-Nusra" and formerly with the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) also issued a threat to the Syrian 'Alawi (Twelver branch of Shi'i Islam) population, which included a promise that they would behead more Syrian Arab Army soldiers, who they consider all Alawis, despite the army being predominately Sunni.

Comment: Nothing to see here, it's only "moderate" beheading and mutilation - courtesy of the U.S.

The psychopathic Allen Dulles, the CIA, and the rise of America's secret government: The Devil's Chessboard book review

Review of David Talbot's book

This is a bold and profoundly important book, not only for the portrait of the evil spymaster Allen Dulles, but even more so for its examination of the legacy he spawned - the creation of a cabal hidden behind the public face of the United States government that secretly runs the country today on behalf of wealthy elites.

The psychopathic Allen Dulles was the enforcer for this group, called "the power elite" by C. Wright Mills in the 1950s. In recent years, especially since September 11, 2001, as its power has expanded, it has been given different names - the deep state, the national security state, deep politics, etc. - but that has not diminished its power one jot. Like a patient who goes to a doctor seeking a label for vague yet disturbing symptoms, people may feel relief from the naming, but the dis-ease continues until the root cause is eliminated. Aye, there's the rub!

Head of Russia's security services: ISIS rooted in Arab Spring - deception by 'certain world powers' allowed organization to grow

ISIS

Islamic State evolved from the Arab Spring and gained momentum due to the duplicity of certain world powers, the head of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) has told a meeting of top security heads of ex-Soviet states (CIS) in Moscow on Wednesday.

There are world powers that are using Islamic State (IS, former ISIL/ISIS) as a kind of "terror battering ram" to ensure their interests in Asia and Africa, said FSB director Aleksandr Bortnikov. In pursuing their goals with IS, these countries have put the world on the verge of a global religious and civilizational crisis, he added.

The outcome of this global conflict could be disastrous, Bortnikov stressed. Russia's security agency chief also said that with parts of the Taliban movement in Afghanistan joining Islamic State, there is an imminent threat of the terrorists invading Central Asia.

"The escalation of tension in Afghanistan is causing serious concern. Numerous IS gangs that are part of the Taliban movement are currently concentrated on the northern borders of that country. Some of them have joined Islamic State, which has dramatically intensified the threat of a terrorist invasion of Central Asia," said the FSB chief.

Mush for brains: The Empire's strategy a debacle as ally Turkey bombs US-armed rebels

PKK kurdish fighters
© Azad Lashkari/ReutersKurdistan Workers Party (PKK) fighters. Syrian Kurds are the most effective ground force against ISIS in Syria
A little over a week ago in "Full Metal Retard: US Launches 'Performance-Based' Ammo Paradrop Program For Make-Believe 'Syrian Arabs'" we outlined what is perhaps the most hilarious Pentagon scheme designed to arm rebels in Syria to date (and that's saying something).

Following the comical demise of the latest "train and equip" program, the US is out of options for supporting the opposition in Syria and so Washington decided to go back to Old Faithful: the Kurds.

But that presents a problem.

The US is now flying sorties from Incirlik and Turkish autocrat President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hates the Kurds and has gone out of his way to make it clear that Ankara doesn't distinguish between the PKK and the YPG. For the uninitiated, here's the problem broken down in bullet points:
  • The US is flying from a Turkish airbase
  • Access to that airbase came with NATO's tacit approval of Erdogan's move to crack down on the Kurdish PKK operating in Turkey (that crackdown is designed to bolster support for the government ahead of elections next month)
  • Both the US and Turkey designate PKK as a "terrorist" group
  • BUT while Ankara equates the PKK with the Kurdish rebels battling ISIS in Syria, Washington actually supports those same rebels, setting up a conflict of interest
Now clearly, this is beyond absurd. That is, Turkey only got NATO's support for the politically motivated crackdown on the PKK because Ankara agreed to bundle said crackdown with a military campaign against ISIS. But the Syrian Kurds are the most effective ground force of them all when it comes to combating Islamic State. Because those Syrian Kurds are aligned with the PKK, Turkey is effectively trying to say its army is fighting ISIS, the PKK, and YPG all at once even as both the PKK and the YPG are also fighting ISIS.

Comment: When this level of incompetence is reached the Empire is really tottering. But it will still wreak a lot of death and destruction before it falls.

Mush for brains: NORAD loses track of surveillance blimp, scrambles F-16s to locate it

Image
While the world was focused on just what excuse Yellen will come up with not to hike rates after 7 consecutive years of ZIRP, and how many new "mandates" the Fed would come up with to justify its now traditional lack of action, moments ago a far more unexpected development took place when a 243-foot blimp used by NORAD in its surveillance of the east coast has become untethered from its mooring in Maryland and it's now flying somewhere over Pennsylvania, according to NORAD spokesman Lt. Joe Mavrocki.

The airship broke free around 11:45 a.m. Wednesday and has approximately 6,700 feet of tether attached to it.

DefenseOne adds that the Air Force has scrambled two F-16s from the Atlantic City Air National Guard base to track the blimp, which officials say is holding at 16,000 feet.

Comment: The US military can't even keep track of their own billion dollar projects, how can anyone expect them to competently fight a war against terrorists?
