Best of the Web: Silencing Truth: British Home Secretary Rudd Censors Indie Candidate for Questioning Arms Sales to Terror-Sponsor Saudis

In this hustings clip, independent candidate for Hastings and Rye Nicholas Wilson is linking the Manchester bombing to Tory support for arms sales to Saudi Arabia. Home Secretary Amber Rudd can be clearly seen writing a note, passing it to the chairman and speaking to him. He then immediately intervenes to stop Wilson speaking and takes the microphone from him.

I don't have the name of the chairman who looks like a corrupt, overfed, complacent, Tory, Church of England vicar straight out of Trollope. But as soon as I get his name, I will publish it.

UPDATE

What is happening to the understanding of democracy in this country? I just got a call saying the Residents' Committee of the apartment block where I live were instructing me to remove the SNP poster from my balcony (It is a small A3 poster). My reply was extremely rude, I am afraid, and I have now put up a second poster.

Comment: The UK has a vibrant democracy. Free speech is alive and well. The UK has no dealings with terrorists or their sponsors. They have no idea why anyone would want to attack them. And if you don't agree, Home Secretary Rudd will maneuver to shut you the hell up. Unbelievable.

The United States has informed the Turkish authorities about the start of an operation to liberate Syria's Raqqa from Daesh, in cooperation with Syrian Kurdish forces, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said Sunday.

According to Yildirim, the US-backed operation in coordination with Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), the military branch of the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD), started on June 2 and Turkey had been informed about the operation before it started.

"They [the United States] told us that it was not an option but an obligation [to cooperate with PYD and YPG in the Raqqa operation] and that the tactical cooperation with them would not be maintained for long after the [Raqqa] operation," Yildirim told reporters in Ankara, as quoted by the Anadolu news agency.

The US-led coalition in Syria on Sunday rejected Turkish claims that the operation to liberate Raqqa from the Islamic State (ISIL or Daesh, outlawed in Russia) terrorist group has begun.

"No, we cannot confirm the operation has started and we do not discuss future operation," the Operation Inherent Resolve press service told Sputnik.

Theresa May says 'enough is enough' so remove her from office

Some links on Britain - the terror attacks and the upcoming election:

BBC: British rebels attack Theresa May's strongholds in London

That is what the headline of BBC should have been yesterday and today. That is the way it reported when the "rebels" were "Syrians" and the attacks occurred in Damascus. Was that not the objective? Why change it now?

Related to the Manchester attack John Pilger asks: What did the Prime Minister Know? (vid)

He points out, as we did, that Theresa May was Home Secretary when control orders were lifted to allow Libyan Takfiris to move from Britain to Libya to destroy that country. Half of those came back, well trained, and one killed 22 people in Manchester. A blowback from May's personal decision to send well known terrorists into British proxy wars. Now she says there is "too much tolerance of extremism"? Who tolerated these?

Corbyn is right: 'We must have some difficult conversations with Saudi Arabia'

UK opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn has called for some "difficult conversations" with Saudi Arabia, accusing it and other Gulf countries of promoting extremist ideologies.

In a speech delivered at the northern town of Carlisle on Sunday, Corbyn, who is running for Prime Minister for the socialist Labour party in the upcoming election on Thursday, said that British values of tolerance must be maintained.
"We must resist Islamophobia and division and turn out on 8th June united in our determination to show our democracy is strong," Corbyn told his audience less than a day after the terrorist attack in London which left at least seven people killed and 48 injured.

"And, yes, we do need to have some difficult conversations, starting with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states that have funded and fueled extremist ideology."

The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland has confirmed that it is examining a criminal complaint against former Israeli foreign minister Tzipi Livni, accused of war crimes by a Geneva-based pro-Palestinian group.

Livni recently travelled to Lugano in southern Switzerland for a celebration organised by the Swiss-Israel Association.

According to the Le Temps newspaper, Livni has been named in a legal suit filed on Monday by the Geneva-based Urgence Palestine activist in relation to her role in the Israeli military's "Operation Cast Lead" in the Gaza Strip between December 2008 - January 2009. She was foreign minister and acting prime minister at the time.

The Attorney General's Office confirmed to swissinfo.ch that this '[legal] request is presently being studied'.

"Operation Cast Lead" began with a week of air attacks and shelling, followed by a land invasion of the blockaded coastal strip, sealed off at sea by the Israeli navy. Some 1,400 Palestinians were killed and 13 Israelis died.

Fake News: Moscow Times Dives Into the 'Secretive World of RT' & Drowns in its Own Paranoia

fake news

Comment: In this article three authors risk the dive into 'The Machine' - the secretive and terrifying world of the Russia Today news channel. Relying on such high-value sources as 'a self-radicalized Ukrainian jihadi' and other former employees like Liz Wahl who have dubious histories, the authors cherry-pick their sources, present a distorted picture, and report fantasies as though they are reality. In other words, they do exactly what they claim RT has done - spread propaganda.

According to these authors the Russians are coming for your mind. Unfortunately, in the process of proving their point, they seem to have lost theirs. Brace yourself for a Fake News meltdown.

Russian President Vladimir Putin looked uncomfortable. During a joint press conference with newly elected French President Emmanuel Macron in Versailles—a location chosen to emphasize the dawn of a new era of French-Russian relations—a reporter from Russia's state-funded news organization RT pitched a hardball question: Why did Macron prevent Russian journalists from taking part in his press pool?

Macron was nonchalant in his response. "Russia Today and [sister publication] Sputnik did not behave as media organizations and journalists," he said. Rather than act as journalists, the state-funded Russian outlets had acted as "agencies of influence and propaganda, lying propaganda—no more, no less," during his presidential campaign.

Comment: RT has become the leading news network on Youtube as people have become more and more aware of how truly strange the Western establishment's perspective is. From 'gender pronoun' controversies, to promoting pedophilia, to absurd claims of 'Russian hacking the planet' without a shred evidence, people are naturally drawn to a more realistic and humane perspective. Naturally the diseased Western intellectual, economic, and political establishment doesn't like this, so don't expect them to stop harping about 'evil RT' anytime soon!

Vladimir Putin has had what's being described by NBC as "a fascinating conversation" with the network's new host, Megyn Kelly, in which they discussed "a range of subjects, from sanctions to Syria," as well as Moscow's alleged meddling in US politics.

"I asked him all about Jared Kushner, President Trump's son-in-law, and what connections they have had and what they have discussed, and I asked him specifically about somebody else very much in the news, and that is President Trump's now fired national security adviser, General Michael Flynn," Kelly said on NBC, previewing her exclusive interview with the Russian president.

The US journalist interviewed Putin at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) earlier this week, and had a sit-down separately with him on Friday.

As the Syrian Arab Army has advanced on most fronts and the military situation has improved, rooting out extreme Islamist ideology becomes the top priority for the region, Syrian President Bashar Assad says.

The course of the Syrian conflict, which has been tearing the country apart for more than six years, has finally changed for the better, President Assad told India-based WION TV in an exclusive interview.

"Things now are moving in the right direction which is a better direction, because we are defeating the terrorists," Assad said.

Comment: Very good news on this front and hopefully Assad and the Syrian army will soon be able to rid Syria of the scourge of ISIS once and for all. For more information:

Interview: Venezuela is facing complete socioeconomic ruin

venezuelan holding flag and gas mask

Editor's Note:
While the current crisis in Venezuela is deeply polarizing on a political level, we should all be in agreement that things can't go on much longer the way they currently are. The below interview reminds us of the horrific socioeconomic catastrophe that is well underway Venezuela. What comes next is anyone's guess.

The economic and political crisis in Venezuela is rapidly deteriorating into a monumental human tragedy. Essential goods are becoming exceedingly rare and political violence is on the rise.

We decided to analyze the Venezuelan paradox from close up. Alejandra, a Venezuelan girl who left her country about four years ago for Europe, offered us some perspective on what is happening in her homeland. Today she works as an architect in Malta. Find the video of the complete interview here at Blogstermind.

Comment: Considering that Venezuela's economy has largely been based on oil exports, while oil prices have fallen precipitously over the last few years, this appears to be another result of the US manipulating oil prices in an attempt to hurt Russia:
