The latest World Gold Council report shows Turkey has sharply ramped up gold buying with both the central bank and ordinary people joining the rush.

"Bar and coin purchases, a measure of investment demand, were 47 metric tons so far in 2017, compared with 14.8 tons in the same period a year ago," ZeroHedge quotes the report as saying.

The Turkish central bank has bought almost 30.4 tons of gold this year. The surge in buying is reportedly triggered by state measures aimed at diversifying international reserves in light of rising tensions between Turkey and its traditional Western allies the US and Europe.

US entering an era of a new McCarthyism.

Fox News' Tucker Carlson dared to explore the reasons for the recent Trump order to have RT America register as a foreign agent.

Max Blumenthal goes over the many political reasons for targeting RT America, and why no mainstream media journalists have come to RT's defense.

It's a slippery slope, and when journalists champion censorship for politically corrupt reasons, they fail to realize that its RT today and them tomorrow.

Russian State Duma on Wednesday passed in the third and final reading the bill require mass-media outlets operating in the country but funded from abroad to register as foreign agents.

The motion was prepared by State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin and the heads of all four parliamentary caucuses. It was drafted as a suite of amendments to the bill, allowing for websites of banned or extremist organizations to be blocked without requiring approval from the courts.

The text of the amendment defines affected mass-media outlets as legal entities that are "registered in a foreign nation, or a foreign structure that operates without registering as a company, engaged in spreading printed, audio, audio-visual or any other content prepared for an unlimited group of people."

Dear World, Bana Alabed's book is a ghostwritten propaganda piece advocating regime change in Syria

The book Dear World: A Syrian Girl's Story of War and Plea for Peace was published in October 2017. It is purportedly written by a Syrian girl, Bana Alabed, with the help of her mother and an editor. The book is being prominently promoted in the US and UK and is anticipated to be a big seller this coming Holiday Season.

Background

Bana Alabed is an 8-year-old Syrian girl who rose to fame in 2016 when a Twitter account was set up in her name and she started tweeting in fluent English from east Aleppo as it was under bombardment by Syrian and Russian forces trying to dislodge insurgents.

The first tweet in Bana's name appeared on 24 September 2016. It simply read, 'I need peace'. The Twitter account soon had tens of thousands of followers, among them J. K. Rowling, the author of Harry Potter. It was later observed in a video that 7-year-old Bana knew very little English and was being prompted or told what to say.

Comment: A little background on Bana Alabed's family is illustrative:
We learn about the Alabed family. The paternal grandfather was running a weapons dealership and repair workshop for Al Nusra and other militant groups; his sons worked there; one of them had served a criminal sentence, even before the war, for gun smuggling; and we are shown a photo of the now famous granddaughter at about 3 years posing with a serious-looking weapon that is as big as her.

Her father Ghassan worked as a lawyer, before joining the armed groups. We see photos of Ghassan, armed, with the militant factions Al Nusra and the Islamic Safwat Brigade. We see documents showing he served in the Sharia Court based in the 'Eye Hospital'. Amidst other papers strewn about the abandoned house is one that indicates he was 'assistant director of the Civil Registry of Aleppo Council' - a "rebel" organisation with links to foreign states and armed groups in the governorate.

Another document shows he worked as a military trainer and investigating judge for the Islamic Safwa brigades. Prior to 2015 he had been working with ISIS in the Sharia court in the Eye Hospital. We see a photo of him brandishing an AK47 beneath an ISIS flag; and another of him in the midst of an armed Asafwa group. We see him with four brothers, each holding a serious weapon, outside the store.

End of the road for Robert Mugabe? Military tanks on streets of Harare - China denies involvement in apparent Zimbabwe coup

China, which has invested heavily in Zimbabwe in recent years, has denied involvement in the military coup in the country after Zimbabwean General Constantino Chiwenga, the man behind the ongoing takeover, visited Beijing last week.

Zimbabwe's military deployed troops armed with heavy weapons to patrol the streets of the capital, Harare, and took control of the state broadcaster overnight. In a televised address, Major General SB Moyo, chief of staff logistics, said the intervention was "targeting criminals around" Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwe's leader since 1980, the year the country became independent. Mugabe's whereabouts were not immediately disclosed, but the military stated that the 93-year-old strongman was "safe and sound." Mugabe later told South African President Jacob Zuma over the phone that he was confined to his home.

'The United States wants to intervene militarily in Venezuela', says president of the Constituent Assembly

Delcy Rodríguez

As president of Venezuela's Constituent Assembly, Delcy Rodriguez is the second-most-important figure in the regime of President Nicolas Maduro. In an interview with FRANCE 24's Marc Perelman she discussed the political and economic crisis in her country as Caracas opens crunch talks with creditors on its debt; Rodriguez denies that Venezuela is insolvent. She also claims the US is "inventing" a humanitarian crisis in her country to justify a military intervention.

Comment: Judging by the hysterical tone of Nikki Haley's statements on Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez should be forgiven for thinking her country is under imminent threat of invasion:

Hysterical Nikki Haley calls Venezuela a "violent narco-state" that threatens the globe

Remembering the West's destruction of Libya: The reason North Korea desperately wants nuclear weapons

north korea nuclear weapons
© KCNA/ReutersNorth Korean leader Kim Jong Un looks at a warhead component being developed for a ballistic missile, at an unidentified location in this undated photo released by North Korea's Korean Central News Agency on March 15, 2016.
The United States and its allies continue to cajole and threaten North Korea to negotiate an agreement that would relinquish its growing nuclear and ballistic-missile programs. The latest verbal prodding came from President Trump during his joint press conference with South Korean president Moon Jae-in. Trump urged Pyongyang to "come to the negotiating table," and asserted that it "makes sense for North Korea to do the right thing." The "right thing" Trump and his predecessors have always maintained, is for North Korea to become nonnuclear.

It is unlikely that the DPRK will ever return to nuclear virginity. Pyongyang has multiple reasons for retaining its nukes. For a country with an economy roughly the size of Paraguay's, a bizarre political system that has no external appeal, and an increasingly antiquated conventional military force, a nuclear-weapons capability is the sole factor that provides prestige and a seat at the table of international affairs. There is one other crucial reason for the DPRK's truculence, though. North Korean leaders simply do not trust the United States to honor any agreement that might be reached.

Unfortunately, there are ample reasons for such distrust. North Korean leaders have witnessed how the United States treats nonnuclear adversaries such as Serbia and Iraq. But it was the U.S.-led intervention in Libya in 2011 that underscored to Pyongyang why achieving and retaining a nuclear-weapons capability might be the only reliable way to prevent a regime-change war directed against the DPRK.

The MSM double standard: 80 minutes for alleged GOP dirt, barely 2 for Democrat's actual bribery trial

roy moore scandal
For the past four days, the establishment media have provided intensive coverage of the scandal involving Alabama GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore, with reporters repeating the damning accusations against the candidate and the "mounting pressure" for Moore to quit the race.

The media's reaction to Moore makes their double standard on scandals all the more glaring: Since early September, a sitting United States Senator has been on trial for corruption involving the abuse of his office, and the media have essentially buried the story.

From the evening of November 9 through the morning of November 13, the ABC, CBS and NBC morning and evening newscasts have generated 79 minutes, 42 seconds of coverage of the Moore case. (The numbers would be even greater, but three of the weekend evening newscasts were pre-empted due to sports.)

Contrast those statistics with those same newscasts' paltry coverage of the trial of Democratic Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey. Since the trial began on September 5, NBC has offered no coverage whatsoever.

Lavrov: Governments are getting into sensationalized fits over Russia to distract voters from their inability to solve problems

Attempts by officials in some governments to blame Russia for their domestic problems are intended to deflect blame from themselves for failed policies, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said, addressing accusations from Madrid and London.

The dismissive remarks came after several Spanish ministers blamed "Russia-based groups" for promoting the cause of Catalan independence online. Meanwhile, British Prime Minster Theresa May made Russia-bashing the focus of her speech at the Lord Mayor's Banquet.

"We are quite accustomed now that some of our partners in Europe and across the ocean apparently have no better things to do than blaming our media or branding them as foreign agents," Lavrov said on Wednesday, in an apparent reference to the US forcing the designation on RT America.

Comment: It seems Western government officials just can't help themselves. Problems continue to mount, and when things degrade to actual crisis, people are not interested in shallow blame. They want solutions. The issue as Lavrov rightly points out is that these so called leaders do not know how to solve problems. They only know how to make a mess. Such a situation is unsustainable to say the least.
