Give it a rest Fani: Judge upholds disqualification of Willis in get-Trump case

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is having another bad day after the Georgia Supreme Court upheld an appeals court ruling disqualifying her from prosecuting the election interference case against President Donald Trump and a number of his allies.

The court on Tuesday essentially stalled the case against Trump and his associates after it refused to reverse the lower court's ruling. The New York Times reported that "the 4-3 ruling means that the criminal case — once considered one of the most serious legal threats to Mr. Trump after he sought to overturn his 2020 election loss — will not move forward anytime soon, if ever."

Comment: The Federalist expands:
[T]he Georgia Supreme Court rejected her motion to continue overseeing the case against the president and other Republicans.

In a 4-3 decision, the Peach State's highest court declined to consider Willis' appeal of a December 2024 ruling by the Georgia Court of Appeals. That decision disqualified Willis and her team from prosecuting Trump and the aforementioned Republicans following revelations that exposed acts of impropriety among the DA and her get-Trump allies.

As Tristan Justice previously wrote in these pages,
"Willis was initially permitted to press forward with racketeering 'RICO' charges against Trump and 18 others after she was exposed for generously compensating [special prosecutor Nathan] Wade," with whom Willis had a previous inappropriate romantic relationship. This compensation to Wade, Justice noted, "allowed the special prosecutor to shower [Willis] with romantic vacations. Only Wade was compelled to step down in March [2024] following roughly $1 million in payments for his work on the case."
The Georgia Court of Appeals decision overturned a prior ruling by the trial court, which dismissed defendants' motion to have Willis removed from the case. The appellate court concluded in its ruling that the lower court "erred by failing to disqualify [District Attorney] Willis and her office."

"While we recognize that an appearance of impropriety generally is not enough to support disqualification, this is the rare case in which disqualification is mandated and no other remedy will suffice to restore public confidence in the integrity of these proceedings," the Georgia Court of Appeals decision reads.

'No place' for EU in Ukraine talks - Lavrov

Sergei Lavrov
Russia's Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov.
The bloc has embraced "revanchism" and is seeking to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia, the foreign minister has said

EU nations are trying to elbow their way into the Ukraine peace process despite their openly hostile stance toward Russia, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said, stressing that the bloc should be kept out of the talks for that reason.

Speaking at an embassy roundtable on the Ukraine crisis on Wednesday, Lavrov said that EU countries are "clearly trying, quite brazenly, to reclaim a place at the negotiating table." The minister, however, signaled that they have no business there.

The bloc, he argued, maintains a "position of revanchism, of inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia" while debating a potential troop deployment to Ukraine in case of a ceasefire. "There is, of course, no place for it at the negotiating table," he stressed.

Moscow has consistently opposed the deployment of any Western troops in the neighboring country under any pretext, saying that one of the key reasons for the conflict was NATO's expansion towards Russia's doorstep. It has also warned that any unauthorized foreign troops in Ukraine would be considered "a legitimate military target."

Comment: Europe only has itself to thank for it being relegated to the sidelines of world politics. Every day it is, in its arogance, trying to show its relevance while succeeding with honors in doing the exact opposite. Instead of building bridges and knowing its proper place in the modern world, it is burning all the links which could have helped it into becoming a relevant member of the multipolar world.

The US president claims that the paper has been lying about him for decades, while serving as a mouthpiece for the Democratic Party.

US President Donald Trump has filed a $15 billion defamation lawsuit against the New York Times, accusing the paper of engaging in a smear campaign against him and partisan favoritism toward Democrats.

In a post on Truth Social on Monday, Trump called the NYT "one of the worst and most degenerate newspapers in the history of our country." He claimed that the paper has become a "mouthpiece for the Radical Left Democrat Party" and described its endorsement of his Democratic rival in 2024, Kamala Harris, as "the single largest illegal campaign contribution, EVER."

He also claimed that the newspaper
"has engaged in a decades long method of lying about your Favorite President (ME!), my family, business, the America First Movement, MAGA, and our Nation as a whole.

"The New York Times has been allowed to freely lie, smear, and defame me for far too long, and that stops, NOW."
The NYT has yet to comment on the lawsuit, which Trump said was brought in Florida.

Comment: Having cultivated a specific reader base, NYT 'feeds the beast' whatever it wants.

Arab state call for UN suspension of Israel

Islamic leaders have urged coordinated steps against the Jewish state over its ongoing siege of Gaza and recent strike on Qatar.

Arab and Islamic leaders have called for Israel to be suspended from the United Nations over its alleged violations of the organization's charter. The demand comes amid Israel's military campaign in Gaza and after last week's airstrike on Doha which left six people dead, including a Qatari security officer.

On Monday, the leaders of the League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation convened an emergency summit in Doha. In a final statement following the summit, the group called on member nations to "consider the compatibility of Israel's membership in the UN with its Charter" and coordinate efforts to suspend Israel from the organization.

Israel has said its Doha strike targeted Hamas officials, although Arab and Islamic leaders branded it a "dangerous escalation that exposes the extremist hostility of the Israeli government." They also accused Israel of undermining the international mediation and peacemaking process, given that the Qatari capital had been used as a key venue for peace talks between West Jerusalem and Hamas.

The statement urged all states to review diplomatic and economic relations with Israel and take "legal and effective measures" to stop Israeli actions, including sanctions, suspension of arms, and dual-use exports.

Comment: No longer 'eyes wide shut', traction turning against Israel is gaining momentum.

Biden's FBI targeted Charlie Kirk's Turning Point USA

FBI Director Kash Patel faces questions during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Tuesday morning, during which Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) revealed that whistleblower revelations showed that Joe Biden's FBI targeted not just Donald Trump, but a wide swath of Republican organizations — including Charlie Kirk's Turning Point USA.

Grassley reminded Patel of the FBI's recent history of political weaponization, pointing directly to an operation known as "Arctic Frost."
"At your nomination hearing, I made public records that whistleblowers provide me about Arctic Frost. Arctic Frost was the FBI case opened and approved by anti-Trump FBI Agent Thibeau. Arctic Frost then became Jack Smith's elector case against then-citizen Trump and now-President Trump."
According to Grassley, newly obtained records show that the Arctic Frost probe was far broader than previously known.
"The case was expanded to Republican organizations. Some examples of the group that Wray and FBI sought to place under political investigation included the Republican National Committee, Republican Attorney General's Association, and various Trump political groups."

Comment: Grassley will melt 'Arctic Frost' back into the puddle it came from.

Question

Why we accept censorship even though it makes us stupid

Censorship
© Washington PostCensorship
The internal logic of any administration is to control what it administers. This implies that every administration considers censoring its opposition. In a Republic, on the contrary, political leaders must control their administrations and ensure that they respect the principles desired and approved by the population. However, today, European states — and particularly France — are abandoning the values they have forged and no longer hesitate to censor at will.

Voltaire is celebrated throughout the world as the man who best defended freedom of expression and made us understand it as a prerequisite for the establishment of any democracy. This was the way of thinking of Tsarina Catherine II of Russia, with whom he lived for a long time, as well as that of J.D. Vance, the Vice President of the United States, for whom this "most fundamental European value," "shared with the United States of America," is today "in retreat" [ 1 ] .

In the 20th century, only fascists and Nazis directly opposed freedom of expression. They believed that popular unity was better than divisive public debate. We have seen the mass crimes they committed, not out of conviction, but as a predictable consequence of their ideologies.

Traditionally, in the United States, no limits are tolerated on freedom of expression, while in France, opinions are distinguished from insults and defamation.

NATO nation cancels over $1bn in Israeli arms deals - media

PM Pedro Sanchez

The reported move by Spain follows Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez's pledge to ban weapons trade as the IDF pushes its offensive on Gaza City.

Spain has scrapped nearly €1 billion ($1.18 billion) in defense contracts with Israeli firms, its strongest move yet under Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez's newly announced measures against West Jerusalem, media reported on Tuesday, citing government sources.

The step follows Sanchez's pledge last week to enshrine in law a ban on arms sales to and purchases from Israel over its Gaza offensive.

The Defense Ministry has reportedly canceled a €700 million ($826 million) deal for 12 SILAM rocket launchers and a €287.5 million ($339 million) contract for 168 Spike L.R. anti-tank missiles. The SILAM systems, based on Israel's Elbit PULS platform, were due to be built by a Spanish consortium, according to the EFE news agency. The cancelations are expected to be finalized next week as Madrid reportedly prepares to disengage militarily and technologically from Israel while seeking alternative suppliers.

Comment: Given a growing tidal wave of global condemnation, disengagement and support withdrawal what is Israel's next calculated move?

Did Israel murder Charlie Kirk?

"Terror is theater... Theater's a con trick... Do you know what that means? Con trick? You've been deceived."

A provision authorizing extrajudicial murder exists within Jewish law. Din rodef — "law of the pursuer," permits the killing of those who are deemed a threat to individual Jews or the Jewish state, without the benefit of due process.

A dramatic example of this occurred on November 4, 1995, when Talmudic law student Yigal Amir assassinated Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin at a political rally in Tel Aviv. During his trial, Amir invoked din rodef as a legal defense in an attempt to justify his murder of Rabin. The basis of Amir's argument was that Rabin, by signing the Oslo Accords and relinquishing much of the West Bank to Palestinian rule, had endangered Jewish lives and should therefore be considered a 'pursuer.'

Although Amir was convicted and sentenced to life in prison, many radical right-wing Israelis have campaigned for clemency on his behalf, including Itamar ben-Gvir, Netanyahu's Minister of National Security.

In the book Torat Hamelekh (The King's Torah), Rabbis Yitzhak Shapira and Yosef Elitzur explain that din rodef "applies even when the pursuer is not threatening to kill directly, but only indirectly... anyone who weakens our own state by word or similar action is considered a pursuer." [Emphasis supplied][1]

Is it possible that Charlie Kirk came to be regarded as a 'pursuer' by certain Zionist heavyweights, resulting in his untimely death?

Few can say for sure, and those who can surely won't. However, it's interesting that a day after Kirk was shot, General Michael Flynn indicated that federal law enforcement suspected the murder may have had a foreign signature:

Best of the Web: Outrageous injustice: Bolsonaro sentenced to 27 YEARS in prison for disputing 2022 election 'result'

Comment: This is like if they'd managed to impeach Trump, then jail him for life 'as leader of the Jan 6th insurrection'...

bolsonaro
The former president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, has been sentenced to 27 years and three months in prison after being found guilty of plotting a military coup.

A panel of five Supreme Court justices handed down the sentence just hours after they had convicted the former leader.

They ruled he was guilty of leading a conspiracy aimed at keeping him in power after he lost the 2022 election to his left-wing rival, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Comment: Truly shocking. And barely a peep of support from other world leaders. Bolsonaro stood out during Covid for being reasonable, distinctly NON-tyrannical, and calling out the tyrannical impulses of other world leaders. Maybe that's why 'The Club' has viciously punished him?

Charlie Kirk; Or how the right learned to stop worrying and love cancel culture

Cancelled Culture
© Off-Guardian Org
Since the assassination of Charlie Kirk last week the theories have been flying thick and fast.

The alleged shooter has been identified as a pro-transgender campaigner into furry internet culture and also a traditional Republican Mormon. He is both a leftist anti-fa agent and a far-right "Groyper" fan of Nick Fuentes.

Others suggest the alleged shooter, regardless of his politics, is just a patsy, and Kirk was killed by Mossad operatives for turning against Israel. People are analyzing video footage minutely looking for bullet paths and possible suspects in the security entourage.

Still others maintain Kirk was never killed at all, and the whole thing is a fake psy-op.

We have yet to receive the "official version" from on high but, when we do, you can be sure it won't satisfy everybody, and debate will rage.

Thus far, there is only one certitude we can take away from the case - cancel culture is alright, really.

For years, the Republican position has been that leftist "cancel culture" - ruining lives and careers because of "offensive" social media posts - is ridiculous and morally wrong.

Not anymore, now massive social media campaigns are launched against anyone who celebrates, minimizes or even fails to adequately mourn the death of Charlie Kirk.
