Sergey Lavrov's remarks at the High-Level Segment of the UN Human Rights Council's 49th session

Sergey Lavrov
Ladies and Gentlemen,

I hoped to be able to attend the Human Rights Council in person after a two-year break.

However, I have been forced to address you via videoconference. The reason for this lies in the outrageous measures taken by the European Union, which has refused to respect one of the fundamental human rights - the right to freedom of movement. Members of the European Union chose the path of unilateral illegitimate sanctions and used them to avoid having to engage in direct honest dialogue, face to face. This is something that they are clearly afraid of.

The situation around the world is becoming increasingly complex. It is deteriorating right in front of our eyes. This is because the United States and its allies persist with their aggressive efforts to impose the so-called "rules-based order" on other members of the international community. How has this "order" affected human rights? Ukraine is a telling example in this regard.

It is the policy of the Washington-led "collective West" which is to blame for the fact that the Kiev regime has been at war with its own people since 2014. It has been at war with everyone who does not agree with the neo-Nazi "Maidan values," with the criminal policy of the Ukrainian authorities, which have been systematically violating human rights and the rights of ethnic minorities, as well as the commitments Kiev has within the UN and the OSCE, and even the Constitution of their own country.

Comment: Lavrov certainly doesn't pull any punches. And instead of taking what he said under consideration, they stage a 'walk-out'. How mature. Via Reuters:
More than 100 diplomats from some 40 Western countries and allies including Japan walked out of a speech by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to the top U.N. human rights forum on Tuesday in protest over Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The boycott by envoys from the European Union, the United States, Britain and others left only a few diplomats in the room including Russia's ambassador to the U.N. in Geneva, Gennady Gatilov, who is a former deputy to Lavrov. Envoys from Syria, China and Venezuela were among delegations that stayed.

Lavrov was addressing the U.N. Human Rights Council remotely, after cancelling his visit due to what the Russian mission said on Monday were EU states blocking his flight path.

Neutral Switzerland also imposed financial sanctions on Lavrov on Monday, a measure of the international revulsion over an invasion Russia describes as a "special military operation" aimed at dislodging "neo-Nazis" ruling Ukraine.
And so much for "neutral" Switzerland...

WHO moving forward on GLOBAL vaccine passport program

Tech giants and US gov't co-operate on "SMART Health Cards", and their use is spreading across the US...& maybe the world.

Countries all over the world are totally scrubbing their Covid measures, mask mandates and social distancing rules.

The CDC has changed their guidance on vaccine doses, and said people don't need to wear masks anymore. Boris has done the same, and (some) of the UK's emergency powers are going to expire soon.

It seems like Covid is over, and the good guys won, right?

Well, not exactly.

The pandemic narrative may be fading away, but certainly not without a trace. Covid might be dying, but vaccine passports are still very much alive.

This week, while the eyes of the world are fixed on Ukraine and the next wave of propaganda, the World Health Organization is launching an initiative to create a "trust network" on vaccination and international travel.

According to a report in Politico published last week:
WHO making moves on international vaccine 'passport'"
The article quotes Brian Anderson, co-founder of the Vaccination Credential Initiative (VCI), which describes itself as:
a voluntary coalition of public and private organizations committed to empowering individuals with access to verifiable clinical information including a trustworthy and verifiable copy of their vaccination records in digital or paper form using open, interoperable standards.
They are, to take the PR agency sheen off this phrase, a corporate/government joint project researching and promoting digital medical identification papers.

In short, vaccine passports.

Question

Why wouldn't the US negotiate with Putin?

It's of course possible that Vladimir Putin was always hell-bent on invading Ukraine, that his decision was taken months if not years ago, and that no diplomatic intervention would have made any difference. Yes, that is possible. But it is also the case that the only country capable of making any difference in addressing the "security" concerns Putin claimed were driving his behavior — and thus, the only relevant diplomatic player in the situation — was the US. Many have pointed out that China's tacit support for the invasion makes them a relevant diplomatic player, and that's certainly feasible. But in terms of the core grievances that Putin repeatedly identified as his motives for this invasion — Ukraine's potential accession into NATO, the already-existing moves to facilitate "interoperability" between the Ukraine military and the US/NATO, and the conversion of Ukraine since 2014 into a de facto US military outpost — the only relevant diplomatic player was the US.

Soros compares Ukrainian conflict to siege of Nazi-held city

Billionaire investor and major political donor George Soros appeared to inadvertently drew parallels between the Nazis and the modern Ukrainian military in a blog post, in which he compared the current conflict to the 1944 siege of Nazi-held Budapest by the Soviet army.

In the post published on his website on Saturday, Soros called on the world to "stand with Ukraine, as they stand with us" before finding apparent similarities between the Russian military action in Ukraine and the the siege of Budapest, then a Nazi-held city, by the Soviet forces. The billionaire noted:
"Brave Ukrainians are now on the frontline and risking their lives in an onslaught that reminds me of the siege of Budapest in 1944 and the siege of Sarajevo in 1993."
The message also appeared on Soros's Twitter account, but was later removed after some of the users pointed to the uncanny parallels. The blog post is still accessible on Soros' site as of Monday morning.
"It is important that both the transatlantic alliance (the United States, Canada, the European Union, and the United Kingdom) but also other nations do whatever is in their power to support Ukraine in its time of existential threat."
The Open Society Foundations founder accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of ordering "a direct attack on the sovereignty of all States that were once in the Soviet Union, and beyond."

Trump says Canadian truckers "being hunted down like enemies of their own government"

Former U.S. president Donald Trump spoke before thousands of US conservatives on Sunday, saying, "you're either with the peaceful truckers, or you're with the left-wing fascists."

Trump made the comment at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Conroe, Texas in support of the Canadian trucker convoy, saying "a line has been crossed" when the Trudeau government cracked down on the peaceful demonstrations.

Declaring the truckers' protests to have been "violently put down," Trump said that the tyranny seen in Canada in recent weeks should shock people around the world.

Ukraine wants its foreign debt written off

Ukraine has called on international financial organizations to cancel the country's foreign debts claiming massive destruction in the country caused by the Russian military offensive that began last Thursday.
"The scale of destruction in Ukraine ... is colossal! In view of this, our external creditors must be required to write off Ukraine's debts."
To date, the external debt is 1.6 trillion hryvnia, or more than $57 billion.

The head of the Accounts Chamber of Ukraine, Valeriy Patskan, wrote on his Facebook page on Tuesday:
"The International financial organizations should revise the debt policy and zero out the debts of Ukraine!"
Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine last Thursday. President Vladimir Putin said its goal is "the protection of people who have been subjected to bullying and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years," referring to the shelling of the two Donbass republics, which broke away from Ukraine in 2014.

Russia's Ministry of Defense has been repeatedly stating that its armed forces target only the military infrastructure and Ukrainian troops, not the civilian population. However, many Western states see the military operation as an "unprovoked" aggression against Ukraine, hitting Moscow with sanctions.

Comment: China lowers Ukraine sovereign debt rating:
A major Chinese rating agency has joined the world's three dominant credit assessors in cutting Ukraine's creditworthiness after Russia's invasion, as the conflict between the two countries dramatically increased the cost of their sovereign loans.

Rating agency China Chengxin International announced on Friday that it had lowered Ukraine's sovereign rating two notches to the non-investable, or junk, grade of CCCg, saying the country could fall into deep recession this year in the aftermath of Russia's invasion. Beijing-based Chengxin said:
"The sudden geopolitical incident will have an all-around negative impact on Ukraine, including an accelerated economic recession, soaring fiscal burdens, a sudden rise in fragility and systemic risks. Its sovereign repayment capability will be damaged,"
Its rating is now in the same category as Venezuela and one notch lower than Myanmar.

The agency warned that Ukraine would face much higher risks in international markets and its forex reserves of US$27.7 billion would not be able to cover sovereign debt maturing this year.
"The outbreak of war will put further pressure on the Ukrainian economy, as it will devastate its industrial and agricultural production capacity, upend investor confidence and lower export orders. Its economy is expected to fall into a deep recession in 2022.
"Beyond Ukraine, the repercussions of the conflict pose significant economic risks in the region and around the world."

MPs award themselves another payrise as Brits suffer worst economic crisis for decades

MPs will get a pay-rise of more than £2,000 from April - just as costs are set to soar for millions of their constituents around the UK.

The country faces a crisis in the cost of living, with energy bills expected to cost £700 more per year when the new price cap comes into effect in April.

Downing Street is also standing firm on its controversial plan to hike National Insurance by 1.25 percentage points in a bid to boost health funding.

But despite widespread concern over personal finances - and opposition from Boris Johnson and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer - the MPs' pay watchdog has decided to increase salaries.

Comment: Whilst MPs may have missed out on a payrise last year, some of them opted to satiate their greed through dodgy PPE deals: £4billion worth of Covid PPE contracts appear to be CORRUPT, bombshell report reveals

Ukraine propaganda fail: Snake Island border guards who told Russian warship to 'go f*** yourself' are alive

snake island black sea
Snake Island is located in the Black Sea near Moldova and Romania
The Ukrainian border guards initially presumed to have been killed in action on Snake Island, a small Black Sea outpost off the Ukrainian coast, are now believed to have been captured by Russian forces.

An exchange between the Ukrainians stationed there and an encroaching Russian warship in the early hours of the war had provided Russia with a geographic victory and Ukraine with a morale boost.

Comment: The soldiers feel betrayed at being considered only a propaganda opportunity, with apparently no efforts made to determine their real fate:

Ukraine has claimed three NATO countries will send jets amid conflict with Russia

Polish President Andrzej Duda said on Monday Poland and NATO were not part of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and therefore can't send jets to join the combat. "We are not sending any jets to Ukraine because that would open a military interference in the Ukrainian conflict. We are not joining that conflict. NATO is not a party to that conflict," he said at a press conference after his meeting with NATO General Secretary Jens Stoltenberg, adding that they were supporting Ukrainians with humanitarian aid.

NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg has also confirmed that NATO was not to be part of the conflict, and therefore was not to send any troops and planes to Ukraine. However, he confirmed that NATO will continue to provide Ukraine with financial and military support, such as anti-tank weapons, air defense systems, and other types of military equipment.

Comment: At least some countries have a sense of self-interest. "Not my monkeys, not my circus." The foaming-at-the-mouth warmongers of NATO and the US appear to have no grounding in reality.

US/NATO is in the grip of a daemonic death-wish & the entire world is threatened

Nuclear War
© Off-Guardian
Not wanting to sound hyperbolic, but I am starting to conclude that the nuclear madmen running the U.S./NATO New Cold War they started decades ago are itching to start a nuclear war with Russia.

Their hypocrisy and nihilistic thirst for death and destruction are so extreme that it boggles my mind. They accuse Russia of starting a New Cold War when they did so decades ago and have been pushing the envelope ever since. Now they act shocked that Russia, after many years of patience, has struck back in Ukraine.

In 2017, Oliver Stone released his four-part interviews with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Putin Interviews were conducted between 2015, the year after the US engineered the coup d'état in Ukraine installing Nazis to power in that country bordering Russia, and 2017.

Stone was of course bashed for daring to respectfully ask questions and receive answers from the Russian leader who the American media has always cast, like all the mythic bogeymen, as the new Hitler intent on conquering the world, when it is the United States, not Russia, that has over 750 military bases throughout the world and has attacked Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria - the list is endless.

In his Putin interviews, Oliver Stone, a man of truth and honor, lets viewers catch a glimpse of the real Vladimir Putin and the matters that concern him as the leader of Russia. In 2018, I wrote of those interviews:
...he [Putin] makes factual points that should ring loud and clear to anyone conversant with facts.
  1. that the US needs an external enemy ("I know that, I feel that.").
  2. the USA engineered the coup d'état in the Ukraine on Russia's border.
  3. the US has surrounded Russia with US/NATO troops and bases armed with anti-ballistic missiles that can, as Putin rightly says to Stone, be converted in hours to regular offensive nuclear missile aimed at Russia.
This is a factual and true statement that should make any fair-minded person stand up in horror. If Russia had such missiles encircling the United States from Cuba, Mexico, and Canada, what American would find it tolerable? What would CNN and The New York Times have to say?

Yet these same people readily find it impossible to see the legitimacy in Russia's position, resorting to name calling and illogical rhetoric. Russia is surrounded with U.S/NATO troops and missiles and yet Russia is the aggressor.
