Flashback Best of the Web: 20-year study of US legislation reveals bottom 90% of Americans have ZERO impact on what becomes law

congress representation graph
"When the preferences of economic elites and the stands of organized interest groups are controlled for, the preferences of the average American appear to have only a minuscule, near-zero, statistically non-significant impact upon public policy." - Gilens & Page (2014)
Remember the two guys that did the study which proved America is a oligarchy? (Not that those of us paying attention really needed a study to verify that.)

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders later even asked Fed Head Janet Yellen during a hearing on Capitol Hill if she thought America was an oligarchy; even she couldn't deny it.

Comment: Most politicians are owned by a handful of oligarchs, whose primary mission is the advancement of their interests regardless of the social consequences. Washington's elites also have a low opinion of the average American, believing that most are uninformed, misguided and that policy-makers should ignore them.

Democracy is just a word that politicians use freely to keep the wool pulled over the eyes of the unsuspecting sheeple, insuring that few realize the evil nature of those whose power and control keep them enslaved.

A Syrian Army field commander speaking to the Syrian Arab News Agency said that the ammo depots were found in the town of Zamalka, about 3.5 km northeast of central Damascus.

According to the commander, the Islamist Al-Rahman Legion militant group controlling the town effectively turned one of its neighborhoods into a network of factories and depots manufacturing and storing shells and the accompanying explosives, and turning spent tank shells into improvised explosive devices. These makeshift weapons production and storage facilities were all linked by a tunnel network.

Some of the explosive materials were Saudi-made, the commander said. Along with the explosives was equipment for mixing them with C4 or chlorine to increase the destructive power of the artillery shells which militants would lob into the capital's residential neighborhoods.

Comment: That right there is the true 'chemical weapons' story in Syria.

For the last 6 years, proxy-controlled 'rebels', embedded with Western troops, have been terrorizing Damascus with actual chemical weapons.

Now that their ruse has finally been uncovered thanks to the Syrian and Russian liberation of this suburb of Damascus, the Western media is actively attempting to pull the wool back over people's eyes by claiming that the Syrian forces have been doing this to Syrian civilians - the very opposite scenario to the one that took place in reality.

Best of the Web: Rove's law: How the empire's "new realities" are reaching the end of the road

karl rove quote reality
"That's not the way the world really works anymore. We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality-judiciously, as you will-we'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors ... and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do."

Thus spake Karl Rove, Deputy Chief of Staff in the Government of George W. Bush.
I do wish people would study Rove's words more carefully. Judiciously study them. If they did, then whenever the next alleged atrocity occurs and the United States, together with its coalition of supine vassals, starts yelling and hollering 10 minutes later for action to be taken, on the basis of a test-tube full of washing powder, or pictures of injured women and children in a war zone, and the entire media of dutiful stenographers shrieks that "something must be done", then perhaps we might pause and wonder if we are being played. Instead of falling into an emotional spasm, maybe we would instead reject the deafening drumbeats of war - wars that have a habit of killing immeasurably more women and children than the alleged incidents on which they are based, by the way - and ask ourselves whether "Rove's Law" has come into play.

As an aside, the West's interventionist wars remind me of that wonderfully cynical exchange in the film, The Man With Two Brains:
Dr. Hfuhruhurr: "The only time we doctors should accept death is when it's caused by our own incompetence!"

Dr. Necessiter: "Nonsense! If the murder of twelve innocent people can help save one human life, it will have been worth it!"
Here's Dr. Necessiter selling us into war in Iraq: "Nonsense! If it costs us the deaths of 500,000 people to topple the evil dictator Saddam Hussein, it will have been worth it!"

Best of the Web: Syrian army arrests British and other Western forces embedded with terrorist groups in Eastern Ghouta - Local reports

Pro government forces check tunnels

According to a report by Al-Mayadeen news channel cited by Fars News, a number of British troops have been captured during the Syrian Arab Army's operations in Eastern Ghouta.

They are believed to be a part of international military forces deployed in the region to launch a ground assault in Damascus in cooperation with the US. According to the report, the US and other NATO countries, Jordan and Israel planned to launch attacks from several fronts, but the plot failed as Syrian armed forces made a series of rapid advances in Eastern Ghouta in March. The plot allegedly involved massive airstrikes by US and Israeli planes that were supposed to pave the way for ground forces.

Comment: Interestingly, the US operations center at the al-Tanf base in southern Syria ordered the end of all operations by the aforementioned allied forces after the terrorists were defeated in Eastern Ghouta, following the collapse of two towns - al-Nashabiyeh and al-Mohammadiyeh - in the first days of the Syrian army's offensives in Eastern Ghouta.
Also the US CENTCOM urged withdrawal of allied forces from Eastern Ghouta to Arabayn, Zamalka and Douma before dividing Ghouta into three areas to pave the ground for their withdrawal from Ghouta region.

Militants allied to the US troops in Eastern Syria had revealed in March that the US planned to stage the attack in a different region further to the East between the provinces of Homs and Deir Ezzur.
This evacuation of thousands of terrorists and embedded Western troops from Ghouta appears to be this previously reported event:

Jaysh al-Islam militants - likely perpetrators of any chemical weapon attack in Douma - suddenly surrender to Syrian govt and leave E. Ghouta

Best of the Web: 'We've seen this all before': Tucker Carlson shreds those who demand war on Syria in epic monologue

Tucker Carlson

As US leaders and mainstream media push for the nation to go to war in Syria, Fox News host Tucker Carlson has slammed so-called "geniuses" who claim to know the truth behind the alleged chemical attack.

Speaking on his television show on Monday, Carlson spoke of the alleged attack in the Damascus suburb of Douma. However, he noted that while "genius" politicians, media, intelligence services, and think tanks seem to blame Syrian President Bashar Assad for the attack, they don't actually know what happened on the ground.

"All the geniuses tell us that Assad killed those children, but do they really know that? Of course they don't really know that. They're making it up. They have no real idea what happened," Carlson said.

Students at the Israeli military’s Computing and Cyber Defense Academy. Israel is also “scouring Jewish communities abroad for young computer prodigies willing to join its ranks.”
Numerous well funded, organized projects by and for Israel work to flood social media with pro-Israel propaganda, while blocking facts Israel dislikes. The projects utilize Israeli soldiers, students, American teens and others, and range from infiltrating Wikipedia to influencing YouTube. Some operate out of Jewish Community Centers in the U.S.

Recently, YouTube suddenly shut down the If Americans Knew YouTube channel. This contained 70 videos providing facts-based information about Israel-Palestine.

People going to the channel saw a message telling them that the site had been terminated for "violating YouTube guidelines"-implying to the public that we were guilty of wrongdoing. And ensuring they didn't learn about the information we were trying to disseminate.

When we tried to access our channel, we found a message saying our account had been "permanently disabled." We had received no warning and got no explanation.

There have been some interesting developments in the alleged poisoning case of the British-Russian double-agent Sergej Skripal and his daughter Yulia.

The British governments standing on the issue is getting worse as more inconsistencies and doubts on its statements come to light. The international support for its claims is weakening.

On March 4 the Skripals collapsed on a public bench in Salisbury in England after they had visited a pub and a restaurant. They were brought to the local hospital. A local policemen was probably also affected. (See our previous posts, liked at the end, for many additional details.) A week later, on March 12, the British government said that a nerve agent was the cause of the incident and accused Russia of being responsible for the act:
Mr Skripal and his daughter were poisoned with Novichok-a military-grade nerve agent developed by Russia. Based on this capability, combined with Russia's record of conducting state-sponsored assassinations-including against former intelligence officers whom it regards as legitimate targets-the UK Government concluded it was highly likely that Russia was responsible for this reckless and despicable act.
Novichok is not a nerve agent but supposedly a group of chemical substances investigated in the Soviet Union for their nerve agent potential. Only recently have some of these substances been synthesized.

Flashback Best of the Web: Trump in December 2016: 'We Will Stop Toppling Foreign Regimes'

The US foreign policy establishment is gradually shifting its focus from the Middle East to the Far East, but the unexpected election of Donald Trump has thrown a wrench in the elitist plan to pivot to Asia. Trump wants to fundamentally change Washington's approach to policy, that is, he wants to abandon the destabilizing wars and regime change operations that have characterized US policy in the past and work collaboratively with countries like Russia that have a mutual interest in establishing regional security and fighting terrorism.

This has not been warmly received in Washington, in fact, Trump's recommendations have triggered a firestorm among elites who now believe that he is a serious threat to their interests. Recent attacks in the media and preemptive provocations with Russia, suggest that an effort to remove the new president from office is already underway. We expect that these attacks will only intensify in the weeks ahead. Here's an excerpt from the speech Trump delivered in Cincinnati on December 1 that is the source of the controversy:
