March 26th this year marked the third anniversary of the US/UK/Saudi war on Yemen. So far, the Saudis and their allies have been unable to win the war. The resistance from the Yemeni people and army to the aggression of Saudi Arabia and its US and UK allies, has been remarkably strong.

SOTT Focus: Behind the Headlines: Atlantic Trade War? How Trump Breaking Iran Deal Could Dismantle US Empire

america first trump flag
Recent developments appear to strengthen the likelihood of a world-changing 'parting of the ways' between the US and Europe. The EU sounds serious about rejecting Washington's wishes and sticking to the Iran Deal, investing heavily in Iran's economic development and by-passing the 'petrodollar system' to trade in euros if necessary.

Will European countries like Germany instead forge closer trade and security relations with Russia? Does Trump, and those among the US elites who support his doubling-down against Iran and for Israel/Saudi Arabia, realize the implications of this 'break-up' for US dollar hegemony? Is this the 'return to US isolationism' US coastal elites dread so much?

For all the criticism Trump's foreign policy receives - from the Left and from Globalists, for being a 'bull in a China shop'; from the Right and those who voted for him, for 'caving to the Deep State' - the US president appears to be broadly sticking to his election mandate of 'America First', a strategic outlook that may indicate the beginning of the dismantling the US Empire.

This week on Behind the Headlines, Joe Quinn and Niall Bradley (re)assess Trump's actions in the context of a global shift towards 'multipolarity'.

SOTT Focus: The Truth Perspective: Identity Politics on Steroids: How Zionism Outdoes Them All

identity politics
Since the election of Trump, everyone is talking identity politics, whether as activists for various radical ideologies, or as critics of such ideologies and their many absurdities. Generally we can see a left/right split. On the left, we have feminism, the so-called wage gap, the pink tax, #MeToo, anti-racism, gender discrimination, trans activism, Black Lives Matter, Antifa, the free speech 'debate', cultural appropriation, etc. On the right, we have white nationalism, and that's pretty much it.

Whereas criticism of the statistically negligible far right comes from the entire political spectrum, it is pretty much just conservatives and centrists who are going to battle with leftist identity politics. The far left has turned their side of the political spectrum into a Borg-like collective of conformists shutting down any criticism as being evidence of Nazism.

But there is one form of identity politics that has slipped through the cracks unnoticed: Zionism. Ironically, the left by and large is anti-Zionist, but neglects to see how the worst features of Zionism are practically identical to the worst features of their own identity politics. And while the right is on point in their criticism of the left's identity politics, they tend to be pro-Israel and are seemingly blind to the fact that Zionism exemplifies the identity politics they otherwise abhor.

Tune in Saturday, May 19, 5-6:30pm UTC / 6-7:30pm CET / 12-1:30pm EST, as we discuss identity politics, and why Zionism provides a warning as to the horrors for which identity politics can be responsible.

SOTT Focus: The Health & Wellness Show: Robbed of Sleep, Robbed of Health: The Importance of Catching Winks

got sleep?
got sleep?
Sleep - we spend about a third our lives doing it, we're the only mammal that willingly delays it, yet when it's disturbed, it can lead to a number of chronic illnesses including dementia, cancer, diabetes, heart disease and obesity. Sleep deprivation can also mess with your immune system, has been linked to metabolic diseases like obesity and type 2 diabetes, and is implicated in Alzheimer's disease and many mental health problems including depression.

Recent research on sleep has uncovered some fascinating and important facts about it. Yet it seems few of us actually prioritize sleep as we should. Many, especially in the West, still view lack of sleep as a badge of honor - a sign of drive, ambition and achievement at the expense of sleep. Worse, good sleep is often characterized as a sign of sloth. But sleep is extremely important - some researchers even claim it's more important than diet or exercise. Getting our priorities in order in regards to sleep could be the most important thing we do for our health.

Join us on this episode of the Health and Wellness Show where discuss the recent research on sleep. And stay tuned for Zoya's Pet Health Segment, where she discusses Schrödingers cat.

SOTT Focus: Shadow Democracy: Spider at Heart of 'Russian' Election Meddling Lives in London

strategic communication laboratories
SCL, 'Strategic Communication Laboratories', Oxford Street, London, England: and actual 'Troll Factory' and global leader in 'election-influencing operations'
The following video presentation by Luke O'Hare for Bella Caledonia elaborates on an article published by the same author a couple of months ago:
SCL, Parent Company of Cambridge Analytica, is Military-Intelligence Front For British Establishment [original title: 'SCL: A Very British Coup']
The Guardian and some other outlets continue harping on about Cambridge Analytica and how it was the vehicle for a conspiracy between the pro-Brexit faction of the British elite, one of Trump's backers (Robert Mercer), and 'the Russians'.

Just spelling it out reveals how implausible that scenario is.

SOTT Focus: Gaza and Palestine 101 for Americans

One should ask, "Why are Palestinians protesting?" before cheering for their death in Gaza. Blaming Hamas is a talking point that hides many facts and realities. In the last two days, 65 Palestinians have been shot to death and 2000+ have been shot or otherwise wounded - including 200 doctors and nurses and a couple of journalists - by Israeli snipers. Number of Israelis injured? ZERO!

SOTT Focus: Zionism is the Right's 'Identity Politics'

Trump i Netanyahu
© KOBI GIDEON/GPO
In December of 2017 Donald Trump ditched the pretense of 'US neutrality' toward the Israel-Palestine conflict and flatly stated that "It is time to officially recognize Jerusalem [the much-hoped for capital of a Palestinian state] as the capital of Israel." Ever since, it's been difficult to view the conflict as anything other than two nuclear-armed powers beating the snot out of a weak, under-developed people - which, of course, is what it is.

Way back in the mists of time, in 1988, a Gallup poll showed that 47% of Conservatives and 42% Liberals took Israel's side in the conflict with the Palestinians. Today Republicans sit at 87% while Democrats sit around 49%. A few decades of embracing Israel's 'War on Terror' have convinced the political Right in the USA that 'Israel is on our side' against the Muslims, while the Left still seems to see the conflict through the lens of the mainstream, which is having a difficult time rationalizing the increasingly pronounced episodes of Israeli brutality.

In this divisive political climate, it's useful to remember that truth transcends any political agenda.

SOTT Focus: Making Israeli Soldiers Kill Palestinians

Palestinian mothers gaza dead baby
The body of 8-month-old Laila Anwar, who died of tear gas inhalation, was held by her mother at a hospital in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday
Satirical news site News Thump recently published an article where they 'quoted' Israeli PM Netanyahu on yesterday's massacre of 62 unarmed Palestinians by Israeli soldiers:
Netanyahu has defended his armed forces and their tactics, accusing Palestinians of working together to jump in front of any random sniper's bullets that happened to be in their vicinity.

Netanyahu told reporters,

"These people could have avoided the thousands of high-velocity bullets sent in their general direction if they had wanted to.

"But no, their primary goal was to make Israel look like a bully on the international stage, so they took every opportunity they could to throw themselves in front of bullets that would have otherwise fallen harmlessly into the ground.

"And those dead children were probably thrown in front of bullets by their parents."
The article has been liked 339,000 times on Facebook, and as far as I can tell, few if any realized that the article comes from a satirical site and that Netanyahu did not publicly say those words, or anything like them. But then that's not exactly surprising, because Netanyahu could easily have said those words, and there's little doubt he - and many other members of the Israeli political and military elite - thought them.

SOTT Focus: Reality Check: EU Replacing U.S. as Global Leader After Trump Leaves Iran Deal?

Iran deal
The president of the European Commission says the the EU needs to replace the U.S. as a global superpower because President Trump has announced that the U.S. will pull out of the Iran nuclear deal. Jean-Claude Juncker had strong words. But is he right?

"At this point, we have to replace the United States, which as an international actor has lost vigor, and because of it, in the long term, influence..."

Those are the words of EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker during an address to Belgium's Flemish Regional Parliament in Brussels. He says that the European Union should take over as global leader because the U.S. "no longer wants to cooperate" with the world, as it's abandoning the Iran nuclear deal.

SOTT Focus: Fifteen Thoughts About Israel

Gaza protests deaths
1. I hate writing about Israel. The accusations of anti-semitism which necessarily go along with literally any criticism of that nation are gross enough, but even worse are the assholes who take my criticisms of the Israeli government as an invitation to actually be anti-semitic. They really do hate Jews, they really do think that every problem in the world is because of Jews and they post Jewish caricature memes and calls for genocide in the comments section on social media and it's incredibly gross and I hate it. But the Israeli government keeps committing war provocations and massacring Palestinians, so it's something I've got to talk about.
