At least 34 goats killed by 2 lightning strikes in Telangana, India

Several parts of Mancherial district continue to register untimely rains coupled with strong gales for the second day on Sunday, causing losses to farmers drenching paddy produce in procurement centres.

Dandepalli, Mancherial, Mandamarri, Bellampalli, Nennal, Bheemini, Kannepalli, Tandur, Kotapalli, Chennur, Vemanapalli, Kasipet, Hajipur, and Luxettipet mandals saw light to moderate rains, recording somewhere between 15.6 mm and 64.4 mm of rainfall. Jannaram, Naspur, Dandepalli and Jaipur mandals witnessed light showers.

Due to the rains accompanied by gales, paddy produce shifted to several procurement centres was damaged. Poles were also collapsed and trees were uprooted, hitting supply of electricity for a few hours. The power was restored by 9 pm. The rains also damaged mango orchards, inflicting losses to growers.

Four goats died after being stricken by lightning at Choutapalli village in Tandur mandal.
However, the showers brought down maximum temperatures in the district bringing respite to the public who were struggle to cope with the scorching heat wave conditions.

Mauled by dogs, six-yr-old girl dies for want of treatment in Telangana, India

A six-year-old girl died after she was mauled by stray dogs and hospitals refused to treat her.

The dog attack took place in the Chengicherla area after a labourer youngest daughter was attacked by hungry dogs.

Hospital after hospital refused to admit her and referred her to another hospital after first aid. The girl died at Niloufer Hospital, where she was finally admitted.

The police said she was attacked by stray dogs around 11 am that left her severely injured. Her parents took her to a private hospital where her wounds were cleaned.

One person was killed and four others remained missing as of Thursday due to rain-triggered mudslides and landslides in southwest China's Yunnan Province, local authorities said.

Since Sunday, Drung-Nu Autonomous County of Gongshan has been lashed by the heaviest rainfall since meteorological records began, cutting off roads and damaging houses, power facilities and communication lines, according to the county government's information office.

As of 3 p.m. on Thursday, 147 mudslides and landslides were recorded, with more than 5,300 people affected, including 1,992 residents who were urgently relocated and 1,041 stranded tourists.

Rescue and relief efforts are underway.

Firefighters and aircraft were are busy Sunday working on two lightning-caused fires burning within 25 miles of Unlakleet with more firefighters slated to joint the effort after lightning became a big factor in new fire starts in Alaska this weekend. Lightning is suspected of causing more than 15 new fires in Alaska this weekend.

There were approximately 1,858 recorded lightning strikes throughout the state Saturday with Sunday's tally at more than 2,900 by 8 p.m. On Saturday, the lightning was scattered throughout a ribbon starting in the Yukon-Kukoskwim Delta north of Bethel stretching across through Central Interior with a cluster appearing north of the Mat-Su Valley. On Sunday, that area was expanded to the Canadian border as rain storms moved through the Fairbanks area in the afternoon.

A barrage of lightning strikes numbering in the tens of thousands pummeled Washington state as multiple waves of thunderstorms moved through on Saturday.

In Western Washington, sensors with the National Lightning Detection Network calculated 15,755 lightning strikes -- 4,119 that struck the ground (the rest were within the clouds), according to Chris Vagasky with Vaisala.

Tropical Storm Amanda, the first named storm of the season in the Pacific, killed 10 people as it lashed El Salvador and Guatemala on Sunday amid flooding and power outages.

El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele declared a state of emergency for 15 days to cope with the effects of the storm, which lost strength later in the day as it moved into Guatemala.

The fatalities were all recorded in El Salvador, senior cabinet official Carolina Recinos said, adding that one person is reported missing.

In the capital, San Salvador, 50 homes were damaged by rain and powerful winds, while 23 vehicles were swallowed by a sinkhole, Mayor Ernesto Muyshondt said.

"We are experiencing an unprecedented situation: one top-level emergency on top of another serious one," he said, referring to the COVID-19 pandemic in place before the rain hit.

In some flooded areas, soldiers worked alongside emergency personnel to rescue people.

Over five waterspouts were seen over Laguna de Bay on Saturday afternoon, the Muntinlupa City government said Saturday.

A video from Muntinlupa Councilor Arlene Hilapo, which was shared by the Muntinlupa government's official Facebook page, show some waterspouts over the lake before vanishing.
