18 people confirmed dead in Florida condo collapse

The death toll in the condo building collapse in Surfside, Florida, climbed to 18 on Wednesday after additional victims were recovered. Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said the two bodies recovered Wednesday afternoon were those of a 4- and 10-year-old child.

No one has been pulled alive from the rubble since last Thursday, hours after the condominium crumbled in the middle of the night. More than 140 people remain unaccounted for.

The collapse is not only one of the worst disasters in South Florida, but also in the country's history.

The Lower Kootenay Band in British Columbia says a search using ground-penetrating radar has found 182 human remains in unmarked graves at a site close to a former residential school.

In a news release, the band says the community of aq'am began using the technology last year to search a site near Cranbrook that is close to the former St. Eugene's Mission School, which was operated by the Catholic Church from 1912 until the early 1970s.

It says the search found the remains in unmarked graves, some as shallow as 90 centimetres to 1.2 metres.

A 7-year-old boy in Taiwan who was allegedly body-slammed 27 times during judo practice — by both his classmates and coach — suffered a brain hemorrhage and was ultimately removed from life support, a report Tuesday said.

The BBC, citing the Taipei Times, reported that the coach has been charged with assault and using a minor to commit a crime, but his charges would likely be upgraded to include or be replaced by "injury causing death."

The boy reportedly attended a judo practice in April and suffered a brain hemorrhage after the repeated injuries. He slipped into a coma and was on life support for 70 days, according to the reports.

Robinhood hit with $70M record FINRA fine for misleading customers

Robinhood will pay a record $70 million fine, the largest ever slapped down by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA).

The regulator found the popular trading platform misled millions of customers, allowed unqualified accounts to trade options and mishandled a widespread outage in March of 2020.

The penalty sends a "clear message" about breaking the brokerage industry's rules.

"The fine imposed in this matter, the highest ever levied by FINRA, reflects the scope and seriousness of Robinhood's violations, including FINRA's finding that Robinhood communicated false and misleading information to millions of its customers," said Jessica Hopper, executive vice president and head of FINRA's Department of Enforcement in the disclosure.

CNN's "The Lead with Jake Tapper" has shed a staggering 75% of its audience since the liberal network experienced a January spike in viewers.

Tapper's program averaged 2.8 million viewers in January but settled for only 706,000 in the 4 p.m. ET timeslot from May 31 through June 23, losing three-quarters of its audience in the process. Tapper's second-quarter viewership is down 49% compared to the first quarter.

CNN's "The Lead with Jake Tapper" has shed a staggering 75 percent of its audience since the liberal network experienced a January spike in viewers.

While January featured a historic news cycle with the Capitol riot, the inauguration of President Biden and the lead-up to former President Donald Trump's second impeachment trial, his direct timeslot competition on Fox News has lost a fraction of the viewers that "The Lead" has. "Your World with Neil Cavuto" has kept 1.1 million of the 1.5 million that tuned in during the jam-packed first month of 2021.

California university offers faculty $1,200 stipends for course on CRT, eradicating 'whiteness'

California State University East Bay (CSUEB) is reportedly offering $1,200 for faculty to attend a professional development program that seeks to understand how Whiteness can be "eradicated."

The College Fix reported Tuesday on the program, which is set for July and will involve multiple sessions on "critical race theory," "becoming an anti-racist educator" and other topics. The university had issued a "call for self-nominations" that was due on May 21, according to the document obtained and published by the Fix.

The introductory section reads in part: "So how do we counter the stories we have been told and that we might even (re)tell to ourselves about how teaching and learning should be? How do we equip ourselves with the knowledge, tools, resources and beloved community to counter the systems of oppression, particularly racism, that saturates us? How can our vigilant work in countering racism also aim toward liberatory conditions where whiteness has been eradicated?"

Bill Cosby's sex assault conviction was overturned by Pennsylvania's highest court.

The court said Wednesday that it found an agreement with a previous prosecutor that prevented him from being charged in the case.

The disgraced actor has served more than two years of a three- to 10-year sentence at a state prison near Philadelphia. He had vowed to serve all 10 years rather than acknowledge any remorse over the 2004 encounter with accuser Andrea Constand.

Cosby, 83, who was once beloved as "America's Dad," was convicted of drugging and molesting the Temple University employee at his suburban estate.

Comment: Cosby admitted drugging women in pursuit of sex, and there is a rather large number of accounts from women who describe being drugged and sexually assaulted. In this age, polarization has made people to think in only black and white terms. It's is likely that Cosby is guilty, but it is also likely he and his victims, have been used to further an agenda that manipulates compassion in the pursuit of wreckless power and control.

The weird, creepy media blackout on recent Assange revelations

As of this writing, it has been three days since the Icelandic newspaper Stundin broke the story that a key witness in the US government's case against Julian Assange had fabricated allegations against the WikiLeaks founder. And yet, somehow, Assange is still in prison.

Weirder still, not one major western media outlet outside of Iceland has reported on this massive and entirely legitimate news story. A search brings up coverage by Icelandic media, by Russian media, and by smaller western outlets like Democracy Now, World Socialist Website, Consortium News, Zero Hedge and some others, but as of this writing this story has been completely ignored by all major outlets who are ostensibly responsible for informing the public in the western world.

It's not that those outlets have been ignoring Assange altogether these last few days either. Reuters recently published an interview with Assange's fiance Stella Moris. Evening Standard has a recent article out on Assange's plans to marry Moris in Belmarsh, as does Deutsche Welle. It's just this one story in particular that they've been blacking out completely.


And it's not that the mainstream press are unaware of this story. Mainstream western reporters spend a lot of time on Twitter, and Assange's name was trending in the United States after the Stundin story broke. Tweets about the article by high-profile accounts like WikiLeaks and Edward Snowden have many thousands of shares each. They've all seen the article. They all know it's newsworthy. They're just choosing not to report on it.

Some of us remember the good old days of pigskins and leather helmets, when White folks called "Come On Team!" in educated tones from the sidelines. This "Go Team" culture filtered downstream into politics.

We have, for instance, the line from President Biden: "C'mon Man!" It still carries the faint aroma of racist white team sports, only it means: "You can't be serious, pal. Get with the program."

There is also another version: "Come ON." It means something slightly different. It means "You can't seriously expect me to believe this horse pucky."

That was in the olden days, when white supremacy ruled the Earth and Brit colonialists in India decided to forgive the payment of taxes during a drought on the outcome of a game of cricket - at least in the movie Lagaan. And naturally, because it is a Bollywood movie, there is singing and dancing and plenty of costume changes. Of course. Jolly civilized, what?

Comment: While there is enough blame to go around, axes to grind and bushes to beat, we seem to be scant on forgive and forget.
