The new world war on free speech

The war on free speech is hardly a novel phenomenon, instead mutating over the centuries. What is new, however, is its global aspirations: today, the conflict takes the form of a world war.

You can see its shadow in every Western country, from the US and Canada to Ireland and Australia, as well as in every multinational organisation, from the EU to the UN. Rising levels of hate speech and misinformation, we are told, make it more urgent than ever for governments, corporations and multilateral organisations to adopt stronger measures to protect vulnerable populations online.

It is for this reason that Biden's Department of Homeland Security recently created a "Disinformation Governance Board", the European Commission crafted a new Digital Services Act and Code of Practice on Disinformation, and the UN is proposing a "Code of Conduct for Information Integrity on Digital Platforms". All of these initiatives are allegedly the product of good intentions; all of them, however, are rooted in the same fallacy: there is little evidence to suggest that hate speech and misinformation are on the rise. On the contrary, Western countries are more tolerant of racial, religious and sexual minorities than ever before. To take one example, the percentage of Americans who approve of marriages between white and black Americans has risen from 4% in 1958 to 87% in 2013 to 94% in 2021.

The war on climate change, as currently fought, is ultimately a war on humanity itself, and the evidence for this is stacking up by the day. It began with nitrogen fertilizer restrictions1 in the summer of 2022, which alone is driving farmers out of business, and has now progressed to the needless culling of livestock — all in the name of combating climate change.

But what difference will climate have if there's no food production? Without food, humanity dies. End of story. Of course, the unspoken plan is to replace all of these banned natural foods with genetically engineered lab-created fare, but that's not going to do our health any favors, so humanity will still be facing extinction, just a slower and more excruciating one.

Culling Cows to Meet Climate Change Goals

In Ireland, the government recently proposed reducing Irish cow herds by 10% over the next three years to meet the European Union's climate change targets,2 which include a 25% reduction in emissions from farming by 2030.3 The same insanity is creeping into the U.S. as well. The EU is just on a faster track. As reported by Cowboy State Daily, June 2, 2023:4
"Climate activists are coming for livestock producers and farmers. European governments have been targeting the agriculture industry for several years ... Ireland's government may need to reduce that country's cattle herds by 200,000 cows over the next three years to meet climate targets.

In an effort to reduce nitrogen pollution, Reuters reported the European Union last month approved a $1.6 billion Dutch plan to buy out livestock farmers. Now the Biden administration is targeting American agriculture.

Special President Envoy For Climate John Kerry recently warned at a climate summit for the U.S. Department of Agriculture that the human race's need to produce food to survive creates 33% of the world's total greenhouse gasses. 'We can't get to net-zero. We don't get this job done unless agriculture is front and center as part of the solution,' Kerry said."

I have been engaged in an ongoing dialogue with a physician who works in a major children's hospital in a blue city. This physician has witnessed firsthand how transgender ideology has captured the medical profession and jeopardized the first commandment of the healing sciences: do no harm.

He has now chosen to speak out, on condition of anonymity, because he is alarmed by the sudden corruption of the medical community. His colleagues, many of whom oppose transgender interventions, have so far chosen to stay silent. This interview has been edited for length and clarity.

Christopher Rufo: Please begin by setting the scene. What's it like in a major children's hospital in the United States regarding transgender interventions for children?

Physician: I think the best way to answer that question is to talk about the cultural shift that happened in 2020, because transgender ideology and Covid are inextricably linked. Normally, doctors operate by the authority of the professional societies that govern our specific practice. That worked because the individuals in those institutions were reliable, intelligent, and thoughtful. But with Covid in 2020, we started getting medical decrees without peer review or evidence — you saw this with masks, social distancing, and emergency-use authorizations. These decrees were expressed as something that everyone had to do, without justification based on sound science. The other thing was censorship. If you were to ask questions or express doubt about these medical decrees, you would be ostracized within your department, and you stood a good chance of being publicly humiliated, severely reprimanded, or fired.

A French husband drugged his unsuspecting wife nightly in their house in Provence and invited at least 51 men to rape her over the course of a decade.

The suspect known only as Dominique P, allegedly contacted the other men on an internet forum called "à son insu" ("without him/her knowing") in which members discuss performing sexual acts on their unwitting, and thus non-consensual partners, often drugged.

The forum was on a French web chat site whose exchanges are erased after a few hours and has been linked to criminal investigations into paedophile, racist or anti-Semitic content and the sale of illicit substances.

Comment: The Daily Mail reported:
Louis-Alain Lemaire, a lawyer for some of the suspects, claimed at the time that some believed the wife was 'simulating' being unconscious as part of a sex game.

Detectives argued the suspects must have known the woman was drugged, because the husband claims to have briefed them before each episode of abuse.

If justice prevails he will spend the rest of his days in prison.

The parents of a 13-year-old girl who was branded 'despicable' by her teacher after she rejected a classmate's claim that she identified as a cat last night told of their fury.

The couple said their daughter was 'bullied' by her teacher for speaking out and have blasted a decision to report her as 'ridiculous'.

Two Year 8 pupils at Rye College in East Sussex were ordered to stay behind in class after clashing with their classmate who identifies as a cat.


Comment: Unbelievable that schools are actually tolerating this nonsense. Three-year-olds "identify" as cats. What does that say about the classmate?


One of the girls secretly recorded their conversation with the teacher, who can be heard reprimanding them both for their views that gender is binary, calling it 'really despicable' and 'very sad'.

The girls are also told 'if you don't like it you should go to a different school'.

Former Chancellor George Osborne today queried whether schools should have been shut during Britain's coronavirus lockdowns as he gave evidence to the official Covid Inquiry. The Mail has more.
The ex-Chancellor claimed it was still an open question as to whether children should have been prevented from attending classrooms when the pandemic hit.

He said there were "absolutely critical questions about balancing the life expectancy of an 80-year-old versus the educational opportunities of an eight-year-old".

The rest of the world refuses to join the West, Dmitry Birichevsky has said.

More than 130 countries were represented at this year's St. Petersburg International Economic forum, while the West was not invited and not particularly wanted, the Russian Foreign Ministry's director of economic cooperation, Dmitry Birichevsky, said in an interview on Wednesday.

"It's not that the West didn't attend SPIEF this year - we simply didn't invite them," Birichevsky told the outlet RTVI.

Every person known to be infected with COVID-19 after attending a 2022 health conference in Germany was vaccinated, according to a new study.

All people who reported testing positive for COVID-19 said they had received at least two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.

While about 4,462 people attended the conference in Berlin in the fall of 2022, just 1,355 filled out a survey and only about half of those were tested after the conference, researchers said in the new paper, published on June 13 by JAMA Network Open, a journal from the American Medical Association.

At least 31 people were killed when an explosion caused by a gas leak ripped through a restaurant in the northwestern Chinese city of Yinchuan, state media reported on Thursday.

The blast occurred on the eve of the three-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday, when many in China go out and socialise with friends.

Footage on state broadcaster CCTV showed more than a dozen firefighters working at the site as smoke poured out of a gaping hole in the restaurant's facade.
