A Belgian of African origin has had his eyes gouged out in a freak attack in Brussels, local media report. The man was taken to a hospital after an eyewitness called police, but his assailant fled, and their identity and motive are still unknown.

The 33-year-old, whose name has not been disclosed, was found with his face covered in blood lying in the street in Brussels' Ixelles neighborhood at around 3am on Sunday, local news outlet Derniere heure reported, citing police sources.

So much for democracy: London police planning crackdown on annual Guy Fawkes Night protests (Update)

London police are planning a crackdown this year's Million Mask March, the Anonymous movement's annual Guy Fawkes Night protest. A curfew and restrictions on assembly will be imposed to stop "masked criminals seeking to run amok."

Hundreds of protesters wearing Guy Fawkes masks, popularized by the graphic novel and movie V for Vendetta, will march on Westminster to protest "austerity measures" and "unelected power."

However, the Metropolitan Police want to stop a repeat of last year's disorder, when protesters hurled fireworks and debris at officers. More than 50 people were arrested for multiple offences.

Comment: Remember Remember... why we don't need them!

Update: From RT:
London police have arrested 53 participants of an annual Million Mask March on Saturday, who took to London streets up to protest inequality and censorship. While minor clashes broke out between some of the activists and police, the rally was largely peaceful.

For its part, police accused protesters of throwing fireworks at police and lightning flares. In its official statement, police, however, admitted that "the majority of those taking part were peaceful," adding that no injuries were inflicted by the fireworks.

Poll shows Trump with 2 point lead, despite 'November surprise'

Trump
© APDonald Trump opened up a two-point lead over Hillary Clinton, despite news that the FBI will not indict Clinton for her email server.
With one day to go, Donald Trump extended his lead over Hillary Clinton, 43% to 41%, according to the latest IBD/TIPP presidential tracking poll. That comes after a third bombshell from FBI Director James Comey, who announced Sunday he would not indict Clinton for her email scandal.

Trump's two-point lead now matches his largest so far during the 20 days of polling.

Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson gets 6% of the vote, Green Party candidate Jill Stein just 2%.

In a two-way matchup that excludes the two third-party candidates, however, Clinton still holds a 43% to 42% lead over Trump, with 9% of those responding saying they were "unsure" for whom they would vote.

The unrounded poll numbers give Trump a 2.4 percentage point advantage over Clinton in the four-way race, 43.1% to 40.7%. Trump and Clinton had essentially been deadlocked for four days through Friday, but Trump moved into the lead Saturday and widened it on Sunday on a steady drumbeat of news surrounding Hillary Clinton's emails.

Also in the unrounded tally, Johnson now has 6.3% to Stein's 2.2%.

Election chaos fears have Americans stockpiling survival food

In case of an election night Doomsday, preppers are running up sales of emergency survival food.

While sales for "long term food" typically see an increase around natural disasters and elections, "this is more intense than what we saw in 2012," said Keith Bansemer, VP of marketing for My Patriot Supply, a manufacturer and seller of survival food. During the previous election his company saw sales double. This time it's triple.

"We have everyone we can on the phones," he said. "We are overwhelmed."

Purchases at other long term food supply companies are up as well. Emergency preparedness online store TheEpicenter reports a 6 percent uptick in year over year sales.

Epidemic of birth defects and cancer in Iraq after US-led war

U.S. Marines came under attack in Falluja
© ReutersAn M1A1 Abrams tank with the 2nd Tank Battalion returns fires into a building after U.S. Marines came under attack in Falluja, in this handout photo released December 16, 2004.
Samples taken from Iraqi children living in Iraqi cities bombed during the US-led campaign show lead poisoning, which is a result of pollution caused by American military bases and the war, says Mozhgan Savabieasfahani, an environmental toxicologist.

November 7 will mark 12 years since the beginning of the Second Battle of Fallujah in 2004, which was conducted by US, Iraqi and British troops. The US-led assault on Fallujah, a stronghold of the Iraqi insurgency west of Baghdad, became one of the major operations during the Iraq war.

It's alleged that chemical weapons could have been used during the bombardment. Many scientists and researchers believe that an increased rate of health problems among the Fallujah population, including birth defects and cancer, are consequences of those attacks.

It's about much more than Trump

By ballot or bullett
This article was first published on SLL March 3. It received more comments than almost any article SLL has posted. Two days before the election, a repost is appropriate.

It started in Vietnam. The men who chose to fight for America on Vietnam's front lines did so for honorable reasons. While there was no immediate threat to the US, some were concerned about falling dominoes and the march of communism. Some were animated by an idealistic desire to secure democracy and liberty in a land that had never known those blessings. Some went believing that if the leaders of the country said this war was in America's best interests, it must be so. For those who were drafted, they did, perhaps reluctantly, what they perceived to be their duty.

Whatever their motivations, those who fought found their idealism shattered. Many of the South Vietnamese they thought they were fighting "for" despised the US as the latest in a succession of imperial powers using a corrupt, puppet government as the cat's paw for its domination. Short of total immolation of both friend and foe—it was often impossible to differentiate the two—there was no effective strategy against guerrilla warfare waged by the enemy fighting on its home turf. The Viet Cong proved as difficult to vanquish as hordes of ants and mosquitos at a picnic. The victory the generals and politicians insisted was just another few months and troop deployments down the road never came, and the soldiers knew it never would, long before reality was acknowledged and the troops brought home.

Comment: Gilad Atzmon would seem to echo the analysis put forth here when he says:
But does Trump really mean what he says? Is he genuine or is he playing a game. No one knows. But far more interesting, no one really cares and it doesn't really matter. And this is probably the real meaning of Trump.

Donald Trump is merely a vehicle. It doesn't really matter whether Trump will be the next president or not. The call for a radical social change has been established. It is now becoming aware of itself.

Say what? New British study shows that women now use F-word more than men

Women say F***
What the ---
An academic study has discovered that women now use the F-word more in their daily lives than men.

The survey, which was conducted by Lancaster University and the Cambridge University Press, questioned 376 volunteers who submitted recordings of up to three hours of their daily conversations.

And after amassing around 10 million words researchers concluded that women have become champs of the swearing stakes.

Data from the 1990s suggested men used the F-word 1,000 times per million words and their female counterparts just 167.

Tiny homes banned in U.S. at increasing rate as Govt criminalizes sustainable living

tiny house
As the corporatocracy tightens its grip on the masses - finding ever more ways to funnel wealth to the top - humanity responds in a number of ways, including the rising popularity of tiny houses.

These dwellings, typically defined as less than 500 square feet, are a way for people to break free of mortgages, taxes, utility bills and the general trappings of "stuff." They're especially attractive to millennials and retirees, or those seeking to live off-grid.

SOTT Focus: The Truth Perspective: 2016 US Presidential Election: The American Dream Turns American Nightmare

US elections cartoon

Take a look at our 'Picture of the day' today. It fairly accurately sums up the generalized feeling of not only Americans but many people around the world, about the 2016 US Presidential election.

To say the 4 yearly contest has become a depressing and contemptible spectacle that is totally unbecoming for the 'world's greatest democracy' is to understate the matter. Then again, was the US ever the 'world's greatest democracy', or was that moniker little more than an example of the comfortable lie that is not, to the dismay of millions, being exposed?

This week on The Truth Perspective, with just 3 days to 'election' day when only about 40% of adult Americans will actually cast a vote, we'll be analyzing the latest news and considering the deeper implications of the apparent transformation of the American dream into a nightmare, and why it's happening right now.

Why is Hillary being attacked by powerful US establishment entities? Is a Trump win likely? If Trump wins, will he be a '21st Century Hitler'? All this and more will be discussed today by your hosts and special guest.

Democrats panicking as Trump overtakes Clinton in polls

Trump and Clinton
© AP/Evan Vucci
Are the polls skewed?

More and more Democrats appear to be worried that they are.

Comment: The polls have been skewed for practically the entire campaign - skewed in Clinton's direction. It looks like Trump's popularity relative to Clinton's has grown to the point where even the pollsters can't hide it. The Dems may try to blame the Russians, but the reality is much simpler: Trump is simply more popular than Clinton, and the polls have deliberately obscured this fact.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is within the margin of error of Democrat Hillary Clinton in the preponderance of battleground states, and Republicans are suddenly rallying behind him, filling Democrats with anxiety that the vote count could deviate from the polls and produce a Trump victory.

Comment: Clinton and the Dems have been flying into fits of hysterics over the possibility that Trump will contest a stolen election. The question is: if Trump wins the election, will the Dems then contest it?

Asked if she bought into the theory that the polls are wrong and Trump might actually be ahead, Democratic strategist Christy Setzer responded: "I do, unfortunately."

She pointed to Clinton's decision to advertise in the state of Michigan, which had seemed to be safely out of reach for Trump.
