Dangerous times: More black women turning to guns for self-defense across the US

Few states track gun ownership by sex and race but African American gun clubs say ownership among black women is rising and women are signing up for firearm instruction in record numbers.

"I thought it would be the brothers joining," Philip Smith told AP. He founded the National African American Gun Association in 2012 and estimated it would attract about 300 members, a number achieved in its first month. The association now boasts 20,000 members in 30 chapters.

A surprising growth in membership is coming from black women, with more of them expressing concerns about living either alone or as single parents, and wanting to protect themselves and their homes.

Comment: A violent culture is leading more and more women to become gun owners, especially in cities like Chicago where, to date this year, there have been 1,557 shootings and 369 murders:
Chicago does not have the worst crime rate in the nation, but owing to its large population -- it's the third-biggest US city -- it has seen a staggering number of killings and shootings.

By mid-July, there had been 1,557 shootings and 369 people murdered so far this year, according to the Chicago Police Department.

Gangs and the drug trade are behind most of the shootings, and they are indiscriminate. [...]

"You see people shooting on expressways. You see people shooting everywhere. You just never know. So you'd better be prepared (rather) than unprepared," she said.

Egypt's armed forces are hailing an armored tank driver for intercepting and crushing an explosive-laden car that was targeting a checkpoint in North Sinai.

The Egyptian Ministry of Defense (MOD) released CCTV footage of a terrorist attack involving four gunmen in the city of El Arish on Monday.

The CCTV footage shows a car suspiciously approaching a queue of vehicles at speed before it's blocked by an armored tank.

Motorists are then seen abandoning their vehicles while the tank accelerates and rolls over the car.

TrumpMania: US president draws 20,000 people at rally in traditionally Democrat-voting Youngstown, Ohio

trump speech ohio
© Jonathan Ernst / ReutersTrumpMania, the tour continues
President Donald Trump's "Make America Great Again" rally in Ohio was marked by protesters, but he still had time to push for a repeal of Obamacare, call out "fake news," list his "many wins" and even brag of "liberating our cities" of illegal immigrants.

Comment: Not exactly; he spoke of liberating US cities of drug gangs, particularly a notorious one that is staffed largely with gangsters of Mexican origin.

Thousands gathered to hear the president speak on Tuesday in Youngstown, Ohio, where the president held a "Make America Great Again" campaign-style rally at the Covelli Center.

Comment: 7,000 people, in fact. The event sold out. 20,000 registered to attend, so they installed a large screen outside the convention center for the overflow crowd:

The event was reminiscent of a Trump election campaign rally, with pro-Trump merchandise being sold, and big trucks with Trump's name plastered on the side.

Comment: Again, like everything else with Trump, he's breaking moulds. Immediately after this speech, he posted another barrage of tweets that the media again felt hopelessly compelled to report on - negatively, of course - thus again drawing attention to the fact that Trump stands alone against 'evil and corrupt elites', the very narrative he is winning with!

Mystery investor bets 262 million on October stock market crash

puzzle pieces
One mystery trader has made an extremely large bet that the stock market is going to crash by October, and if he is right he could potentially make up to 262 million dollars on the deal. Fortunes were made and lost during the great financial crisis of 2008, and the same thing will happen again the next time we see a major stock market crash. But will that stock market crash take place before 2017 is over? Without a doubt, we are in the midst of one of the largest stock market bubbles in U.S. history, and many prominent investors are loudly warning of an imminent stock market collapse. It doesn't take a genius to see that this stock market bubble is going to end very badly just like all of the other stock market bubbles throughout history have, but if you could know the precise timing that it will end you could set yourself up financially for the rest of your life.

I want to be very clear about the fact that I do not know what will or will not happen by the end of October. But one mystery investor is extremely convinced that market volatility is going to increase over the next few months, and if he is correct he will make an astounding amount of money. According to Business Insider, the following is how the trade was set up...

Wasserman-Schultz IT aide Awan arrested while attempting to flee country, charged with bank fraud

Awan
Just a day after reports emerged that the FBI had seized a number of "smashed hard drives" and other computer equipment from the residence of Imran Awan, the IT aide of Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, we learn that Awan has been captured at the Dulles airport while attempted to flee the country. According to Fox News, Awan has been charged with bank fraud.

Inexplicably, or perhaps not, Awan has been kept on the payroll of former DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz despite a rapidly escalating scandal that potentially involves multiple federal crimes.

'People angry at money spent on too many migrants' relocation' - Italian mayor to RT

The mayor of a small Italian town who protested migrants' arrival by cutting off the electricity to the hotel building they are living in has explained to RT the motives behind the move.

Castell'Umberto mayor Vincenzo Lionetto Civa told RT's Ilya Petrenko that he and hundreds of other people launched their protest because "the prefecture didn't tell us in advance that the migrants were coming."

The protesters argued that the number of newcomers was too high for the town, where just 3,200 people live, and demanded that the government to follow its own plan, which states that asylum seekers should be spread evenly across the country with a ratio of 2.5 migrants for every 1,000 Italian residents.

'The metal detectors are just the first step': Palestinians say Israeli takeover of Al Aqsa Mosque is red line that can't be crossed

East Jerusalem, occupied West Bank - "You have four minutes to leave," the Israeli police officer yelled aggressively through the megaphone.

The peaceful atmosphere drastically shifted into one of panic within seconds. Girls who were standing on the ledge scrambled to get down to leave, some tripping and falling down over others.

Last Sunday hundreds of Palestinians had lined up in rows inside the Old City's walls by Lion's Gate waiting for the late evening prayer. In the hour prior to the beginning of prayer, they occasionally chanted in support of Al Aqsa and the Sheikh delivered his sermon. It was a calm atmosphere where even the officers themselves were standing with relaxed postures, perhaps bored.

However, about ten minutes before the start of the late evening prayer, the mood dramatically changed when the group of officers suddenly straightened their positions and all lowered their visors at the same time.

Fake street signs warning Twin City residents to beware of police have been erected following the killing of an unarmed woman by a Minneapolis officer.

Posted in several locations across Minneapolis and St. Paul, the signs read: "Warning: Twin Cities Police easily startled."

The signs are said to be mocking the excuse given by officer Matthew Harrity who said he and his partner, Mohamed Noor, were "startled" by a noise before shooting Justine Damond outside her home on July 15.

The "unauthorized" signs were taken down by authorities shortly after they were erected, police said.

"We are aware of the signs and Minneapolis Public Works is removing them," Minneapolis Police Department spokeswoman Sergeant Catherine Michal told CNN. "We have no further comment at this time."

Thousands of Jordanians joined the funeral procession of a teenager shot dead by an Israeli security guard during a standoff at the Israeli embassy. The mourners have demanded authorities close the embassy and tear up Jordan's peace treaty with Tel Aviv.

The people who joined the procession chanted, "No to an Israeli embassy or ambassador on Jordanian land" and "Death to Israel" as they accompanied the coffin of the killed teenager from his home city of Wihdat, east of the Jordanian capital of Amman, where a large Palestinian refugee camp is situated.

The mourners were carrying pictures of the dead teenager, identified as Mohammed Jawawdeh, 17, as well as Palestinian and Jordanian flags. They also called for a "jihad" against Israel, Reuters reports.

"We will go to Jerusalem as martyrs by the millions," people chanted, according to AFP. Jawawdeh's uncle also appealed to Jordan's King Abdullah II, asking him to avenge the teenager's death.

Arizona releases manual on how not to get shot by police during a traffic stop

Arizona's driver manual is now offering tips on how to avoid getting shot by police in a response to deadly incidents at traffic stops.

The revised rule book is believed to be the first in the US to include guidance for armed motorists. In Arizona, residents are allowed to carry weapons without permits.

The decision to change the manual was influenced by the fatal police shooting of Philando Castile in Minnesota last year.

Castille, who had a gun permit, was fatally shot during a traffic stop after telling an officer he was armed and then reaching for his wallet.

The shooting was captured on video a day after the police killing of Alton Sterling in Louisiana sparked widespread protests against police brutality.

Reginald Bolding of the Arizona House of Representatives said he pushed for changes to the manual following Castile's death because it was clear that not all firearm owners were trained to handle them.
