Violent clashes between white supremacists and anti-fascist groups like those seen in Charlottesville, Virginia, are bound to break out in the UK, according to the far-right British National Party (BNP).

A young woman was killed and 19 protesters injured last week when a car was plowed into anti-fascist protesters opposing Saturday's 'Unite the Right' demonstration. A state of emergency was imposed as rival group of protesters clashed in the streets.

US President Donald Trump has been criticized for focusing on the violence committed by both sides rather than condemning outright the far-right, neo-Nazi, and white supremacist elements involved.

Speaking to RT, Weyman Bennett, joint secretary of Britain's far-right BNP, seemed to echo the president's analysis. He claimed that similar events are likely to occur in the UK because far-right groups are being deprived of their right to freedom of speech by "violent" left-wingers.

Polluted river turns stray dogs blue in India

Untreated industrial waste being released into the Kasadi river may be turning stray dogs near Navi Mumbai's Taloja industrial area blue.

Reason: Strays often wade into the river for food, therefore the waste may be dyeing their fur a bright shade of blue.

A water quality test at Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation found the waste treatment was inadequate. The levels of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) - the concentration of oxygen required to sustain aquatic life - was 80 milligram a litre (mg/L). Levels of chloride, which is toxic, harms vegetation, aquatic life and wildlife, were also high.

The area has nearly a 1,000 pharmaceutical, food and engineering factories.

Authoritarianism's unlikeliest ally: The vociferous rise of the violent left

Antifa's activists say they're battling burgeoning authoritarianism on the American right. Are they fueling it instead?

Since 1907, Portland, Oregon, has hosted an annual Rose Festival. Since 2007, the festival had included a parade down 82nd Avenue. Since 2013, the Republican Party of Multnomah County, which includes Portland, had taken part. This April, all of that changed.

In the days leading up to the planned parade, a group called the Direct Action Alliance declared, "Fascists plan to march through the streets," and warned, "Nazis will not march through Portland unopposed." The alliance said it didn't object to the Multnomah GOP itself, but to "fascists" who planned to infiltrate its ranks. Yet it also denounced marchers with "Trump flags" and "red maga hats" who could "normalize support for an orange man who bragged about sexually harassing women and who is waging a war of hate, racism and prejudice." A second group, Oregon Students Empowered, created a Facebook page called "Shut down fascism! No nazis in Portland!"

Next, the parade's organizers received an anonymous email warning that if "Trump supporters" and others who promote "hateful rhetoric" marched, "we will have two hundred or more people rush into the parade ... and drag and push those people out." When Portland police said they lacked the resources to provide adequate security, the organizers canceled the parade. It was a sign of things to come.

The group Antifaschistische Aktion, better known as Antifa openly advocates and practices political violence against peaceful demonstrators and even those who are not engaged in any demonstrable political action. In this sense Antifa is the new Baader-Meinhof Gang - the new IRA.

Cop will serve 3 years for shooting cooperative man during traffic stop

Levar Edward Jones was shot by a state trooper in early September of 2014. Now, nearly three years after the cowardly and deadly actions by this trooper, he is finally being held accountable, and Jones is seeing the justice he deserves.

On Tuesday, former South Carolina State Trooper, Sean Groubert was sentenced to 12 years in prison. However, while that may seem substantial, 5 of them were suspended for time served, and Groubert will only spend 3 years behind bars for nearly killing an innocent man who was doing everything he was supposed to do during a traffic stop.

The incident, which the Free Thought Project reported upon initially after it took place on September 4, 2014, began when trooper Sean Groubert pulled Jones over for allegedly not wearing a seat belt.

Dash cam from the trooper's cruiser recorded the interaction.

I have already made known my feelings about the white supremacists who gathered in Charlottesville.

Their idiocy is overshadowed only by their moral depravity. The one thing they lack more than jobs and girlfriends is a semi-coherent understanding of history. How many of these neo-Nazi punks even realize that Hitler would have marched them to the gas chambers right alongside the black and Jewish Americans they despise? How many of them had grandfathers and great grandfathers who stormed the beaches to defeat the very movement they now wish to resurrect? Part of me hopes their grandfathers are dead so they don't have to witness what's become of their families. Part of me hopes they're alive so they can take their canes and swat these brats across the head. I don't condone violence, unless it's a WWII vet delivering a grandfatherly whooping to his vile, ungrateful Nazi grandson.

It would be very difficult to go too far in criticizing the sorts of "men" who rallied this weekend. I am forced to put the word "men" in quotes because they are only men in the most literal sense. In any other sense, they are cowardly, pathetic little boys desperate for attention. I am not interested in hearing, as I have heard from some people, that these imbeciles were "driven" to this point because of all the racism and hatred on the Left. There is racism and hatred on the Left - a lot of it, and we'll get to that in a second - but that does not even begin to excuse them.

White nationalists planning rally in Lexington, Kentucky to oppose removal of two Confederate statues

confederate statues
White nationalists are planning a rally in Lexington to oppose the planned removal of two Confederate statues from the lawn of the former Fayette County Courthouse, and they're considering a lawsuit aimed at blocking the move, a leader in the movement said Tuesday.

Matthew Heimbach, chairman of the Traditionalist Worker Party, said his group and others allied under the umbrella of the Nationalist Front are discussing plans for the rally.

Heimbach said people in the Lexington area asked his group get involved. The group has members in Kentucky and plans to try to recruit more, he said.

No date has been chosen, but the goal is to have the event "sooner rather than later," Heimbach said.

A woman who survived a month in the wilderness by eating berries and mushrooms has been reunited with her family in what authorities are calling a "miracle."

Lisa Theris was lost in the Alabama wilderness for 28 days and lost 50lb (22kg) during her ordeal. Her family said she is weak and emaciated, Fox10 reports.

A large search party was organized to find the 25 year old, but failed to locate her in the thousands of acres of forest.

"She said she was drinking water out of a brook and eating berries and mushrooms." Sheriff Raymond Rodgers said.

Theris had no bag, shoes or phone and became disoriented trying to find her way out of the forest.

She was spotted by a motorist on Highway 82 on Saturday. After being treated at an emergency room, she was reunited with her family.

"A motorist from Florida was driving 82 east of Midway and saw something moving in the bushes. She went back and there was the young lady in the wooded area," Rogers said. "She called us and told us she had located the missing person."

Syrians are returning home: "Western-backed terrorists brought nothing but weariness, poverty, death and loneliness"

My latest trip to Syria was spent in Aleppo and Damascus. During my time in East Aleppo I was struck by the hive of activity, pockets of industry, rebuilding the stricken neighborhoods, stone by stone. Despite lack of electricity and water, in each street and alleyway, the sound of welders and the beat of hammers, rang out.

The sparks from a trio of welders spilled onto the pavement where we sat and drank coffee with residents, returning to their communities that had been so fractured by the almost 5 year occupation of these districts of East Aleppo, by Nusra Front-led extremist brigades.

Speculative bubble: Are cryptocurrencies overhyped and dangerous?

bitcoin
© Lucas Jackson / Reuters
With the main stream media caught up in bitcoin hype as the cryptocurrency smashes another all-time high this week, few stories cover the possible dangers of the phenomenon.

Anonymity is not always right

In the most recent incident last week, hackers demanded a ransom of at least $6 million in bitcoin from HBO to stop leaking spoilers and episodes from the new season of Game of Thrones. Bitcoin transactions are ideal for criminals because they are hard to track. While some may not sympathize with a TV channel with a multibillion dollar market cap, the same blackmail technique could be used against any of us, and there is little likelihood the criminals would be caught.

The defenders of anonymous payments say any currency can be used for illegal means.

An Israeli police raid on Al-Makassed Hospital in East Jerusalem last month left one critically wounded Palestinian dead, an investigation by Israeli NGO B'Tselem concluded, adding that the raid endangered the lives of other patients.

Muhammad Abu Ghanam, 20, was rushed to the hospital on July 21 after being critically shot by Israeli security forces during the 'Day of Rage' demonstrations in East Jerusalem.

Abu Ghanam, who was studying at Bir Zeit University, was about to be taken into the operating room when Israeli police officers forced their way into the hospital to arrest him.

B'Tselem says the police overpowered the hospital guards and dozens of Palestinian youths who tried to prevent them from going inside the building.
