President of the Russian Olympic Committee Alexander Zhukov has commented on the situation around the doping probe of Russian athletes.

"You should pay attention to the current activities of Grigory Rodchenkov, to his bribery attempts as well as the attempts to hamper the objective investigation; such actions completely nullify Rodchenkov's credibility," President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Alexander Zhukov said Wednesday.

According to another Russian senior lawmaker Mikhail Degtyarev, Rodchenkov could have acted as part of an international criminal group to discredit Russian athletes.

Come again? Facebook asks users for nude photos to combat 'revenge porn'

Facebook is teaming up with four countries to test a preemptive system to detect and defend against "revenge porn." Users are being asked to upload nude photos of themselves to Messenger.

The Australian Office of the eSafety Commissioner announced they were partnering with the social media giant last week on a pilot scheme that will allow anyone to report sensitive images being shared online without their permission.

The eSafety office, which works primarily to prevent the online abuse of minors, asked any Australian who fears that intimate images of themselves may be online to send a nude photo of themselves via Messenger. They will then notify Facebook, who will use image matching technology to stop those images from being uploaded to Facebook, Messenger, Facebook Groups or Instagram.

Financial forecaster calls Bitcoin a 'gigantic speculative bubble' that will end

The man who predicted the 2008 financial crisis is skeptical about bitcoin. Nouriel Roubini warns the cryptocurrency will become so regulated it will "find its end."

"In my opinion, there is a gigantic speculative bubble related to the bitcoin because this is neither a serious method of payment nor a good way to store capital," the economist told Business Insider. He explained that "bitcoin feeds on itself" and there are no fundamental reasons for its price to reach such levels.

The price of the virtual currency skyrocketed to $7,600 over the weekend, up over 750 percent in 10 months. Bitcoin was trading at $7,380 on Wednesday.

"What's more - it is also used by criminals, for their shady business. I think that more and more countries will start to make cryptocurrency exchanges illegal like China did," Roubini said, adding new regulations will be adopted. "So, this will find its end."

Hollywood is facing big financial losses as the number of sexual harassment claims continues to grow. Major studios including Warner Bros, Netflix, and Sony Pictures, have been forced to cancel projects.

Following the public embarrassment that dragged down industry giants like Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey, and Brett Ratner, studios have had to scuttle releases of new projects, revise contracts putting promising deals in jeopardy.

"There's been scandals in Hollywood since the silent movie age, but it was one person or one incident. I've been at Variety for 30 years, I've never seen something like this," said Tim Gray an editor at the entertainment trade magazine Variety, as quoted by AFP.

Nearly a hundred women have accused producer Harvey Weinstein of misconduct ranging from harassment to rape since the US media outlets first published allegations against him. All the projects connected to The Weinstein Company, run by Harvey Weinstein and his brother Bob became toxic. Oscar-winning director Oliver Stone reportedly left the "Guantanamo" television series, which he had been working on together with the studio.

Baltimore Police Officer Caesar Goodson Jr. who drove the van in which Freddie Gray suffered injuries that led to his death in custody in 2015, has been found not guilty in an administrative process. Both Goodson and Gray are African-American.

The panel of law enforcement officials deliberating the case announced its decision at the University of Baltimore Tuesday. There were 21 charges against Goodson. Prince George's County Police Major Rosa Guixens, head of the panel, read out "not guilty" to all the charges.

Goodson, who risked having his career ended if convicted of just a single charge, couldn't hide his smile after hearing the acquittal, the Baltimore Sun reported. The panel's decision is final.

The verdict was vindication for a hard-working and soft-spoken officer who was "wrongfully charged," defense lawyer Sean Malone said after the hearing. Goodson is planning to continue his career with the Baltimore Police Department, his attorney added.

Goodson has 14 years of experience behind the wheel of a police van. Many of the charges against the officer revolved around his failure to ensure Gray's safety in the back of the vehicle and to provide the detainee with medical help when he asked for it.

Protesters near Ukrainian parliament call for Poroshenko's impeachment

Ukrainian protesters
Several thousand have gathered near the Verkhovna Rada, in a protest organized by Mikhail Saakashvili. The participants unfurled flags of Ukraine and black-and-red Bandera banners, as well as posters that read "Impeachment", "Fish rot from the head", etc.

Despite the large number of protesters there is no significant police force, as there was in October. There are about 50 policemen in total guarding the entrance to the Rada.

The Head of Interior Ministry, Arsen Avakov, gave the order to withdraw most of the police from from around parliament grounds. This occurred after Avakov's son was arrested on charges of corruption. According to one of the versions, the attack on Avakov Jr. was ordered by President Petro Poroshenko, who is in conflict with the head of the Interior Ministry.

Blunders in its crime reporting process, such as the type the US Air Force made which allowed Texas church shooter Devin P. Kelley to illegally buy firearms, have long been a problem in the military, a 1997 Pentagon report shows.

The 20-year-old report by the Pentagon Inspector General which resurfaced Tuesday, states the military has been aware of widespread lapses in the process of reporting criminal offenses within the Air Force, the US Army and the US Navy, dating back to February of 1997.

The decades-old Pentagon review emerged as Defense Secretary James Mattis announced Tuesday that he has directed the Pentagon's Inspector General to review the circumstances surrounding the failures that led the Texas shooter's past conviction for domestic violence go unreported, and to further "define what the problem is," according to AP.

He's losing his marbles: Professor Stephen Hawking warns that mankind must make plans to leave the planet to avoid extinction

Professor Stephen Hawking has warned mankind will destroy the Earth, turning it into a blazing fireball, within the next 600 years.

The renowned physicist believes soaring population sizes and increasing demands for energy will lead to the catastrophe.

Humanity should begin looking to the stars to avoid this fate, he argues, with our nearest neighbour Alpha Centauri the best candidate for our escape.

Hawking urged potential financial backers to get behind a project that could one day lead to manned flights to the system.

Hawking made the comments while speaking via video link at the Tencent Web Summit, held in Beijing.

Comment: Hawking is thinking too much like a scientist about something (the troubles of man's situation on the planet) that isn't really a problem of science. The root issue is that of not-so-human people running this planet and directing resources towards war, chaos, and destruction and away from peace, balance, and creation.

The only thing colonizing other planets will do is spread our ponerized version of human society to other parts of the universe, and the Universe may have its own thoughts on such a venture.
