Around 70 percent of Russians would vote for incumbent President Vladimir Putin if the presidential elections were held on Sunday, a poll conducted by Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTsIOM) revealed on Wednesday.

Answering whom of the eight candidates they would support if the election was held next Sunday, 69.7 percent of respondents chose Putin, the pollster said. A total of 7.1 percent would vote for Communist Party candidate Pavel Grudinin, and another 5.6 percent for head of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia Vladimir Zhirinovsky.

Additionally, 1.1 percent of those polled were ready to cast their ballots for Civic Initiative party candidate Ksenia Sobchak.

A man has been convicted of sexism in a public place for the first time under a new law in Belgium. A court in Brussels fined him โ‚ฌ3,000 for insulting a police officer because of her gender, Le Soir reported.

It comes as France prepares to create an offence of street harassment, described as "sexist and sexual outrage".

'Factual Feminist' Christina Hoff Sommers shouted down by mob-like law students

On Monday, student activists at Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland, Ore., partially prevented scholar and author Christina Hoff Sommers from speaking. After disseminating a letter asking the Federalist Society of Lewis & Clark to rescind her speaking invitation, which I wrote about Monday, student activists came out in full force to the Sommers lecture.

A woman in a "stay woke" sweatshirt led the call and response, as students blasted music to try to drown out Sommers' words, and held signs saying "NO PLATFORM FOR FASCISTS" and "PATRIARCHY, BIGOTRY, HATE...THESE ARE THINGS WE DON'T DEBATE." Others held up "RAPE CULTURE IS NOT A MYTH" signs and sang while Sommers tried to speak.

But not all students in attendance were focused on shutting Sommers down or denying her the chance to speak. "You're embarrassing our law school and our student body," declared one student who was seemingly trying to listen to the speech. Student activists aggressively demanded that Sommers take questions after only a few minutes of speaking, and there was clear conflict between students on both sides, as some exasperated students countered the activists.

Man charged with animal abuse after shooting dog and beating it with a hammer

Trooper the dog
A brutal case of animal abuse was discovered when a woman found a dog shot, beaten with a hammer and left for dead in a ditch.

"As soon as I saw Trooper, I fell to my knees, I could not believe the condition of this dog," Katrina Campbell said. Campbell has rescued dogs for years, but a week ago, a yellow lab changed everything.

Trooper was in bad shape. Campbell found him along a country road south of Farmington. "He laid right here for several weeks," she said. Trooper was covered in feces and urine. It was so bad, it had burned through his flesh.

"You can see where he had been chewing on several things like right down here," she said.

Nope, there will not be any civil war in America

I know I'm usually the one urgently warning everybody of the dangers of nuclear holocaust, climate chaos and plutocratic tech dystopia, but there's one disaster I keep seeing people worrying themselves about which absolutely will not happen. I'd like to take a minute to set everyone's mind at ease about the prospect of civil war erupting in the United States, either between liberals and conservatives or between the people and the state, so that we can focus on the actual real problems we need to deal with.

For months I've been seeing people on both the left and right side of America's imaginary political divide talking about the possibility of the divisiveness in US politics leading to large-scale violence, and a recent high-visibility tweet by Kim Dotcom makes me feel like I should probably talk about this sooner rather than later to help prevent yet another phantom boogieman from gumming up the gears of political discourse.
"I'm calling it," Dotcom stated. "The conflict between left and right is now so inflamed that we need to start worrying about violence. Can you feel the anger? It's reaching a boiling point."
On a personal note my interest in western involvement in the Syrian war has given me a reflexive distaste for any high-profile foreigner talking up a civil war in a country that they do not belong to, but more to the point, Dotcom is just plain wrong here. There will not be any civil war in the United States as it exists today. Maybe if the country and its power dynamics change in an unimaginably drastic way that could become a risk, but as things are right now there is exactly zero probability of any large-scale civil warfare happening in America.

Victory for now: Vermont voters say no to 'loud' F-35s flying over them

F-35
Vermont residents opposing efforts to station F-35 fighter jets at Burlington International Airport have scored a victory at the ballot box. The task of basing America's most expensive weapons system has sparked controversy.

On Tuesday, Vermonters approved a ballot initiative that aims to prevent the F-35 fighter jets from being stationed at the airport. Over half of the voters were opposed to jets being based at the Vermont Air National Guard Station.

"This is a huge victory for the people of Burlington, South Burlington, Winooski, and all of the other towns around the airport," James Marc Leas of Save Our Skies Burlington, a group that organised the petition to get the question placed on the ballot, told RT on Wednesday.

Leas cited noise pollution and cognitive impairment in children as reasons to oppose the basing of fighter jets in Burlington. Ben Cohen, co-founder of Ben & Jerry's Homemade Ice Cream, was arrested during a protest against the F-35 last Saturday.

Sunday night's telecast of the 90th annual Academy Awards saw viewership plunge 20 percent from last year to a record-low 26.5 million.

High on politics and social justice issues, Sunday's live Oscar broadcast on ABC also marked the first time on record the Oscars reached fewer than 30 million people.

"The previous low-water mark for the Oscars came in 2008, when No Country For Old Men won best picture, the Associated Press reports. "Last year's show, also hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, reached 33 million viewers."

More homeless people in Los Angeles were arrested for felonies and misdemeanors, and were were also subjected to more police use of force in 2017 than in the previous year. Crimes against LA's homeless have also risen.

A new report by the Los Angeles Police Department puts the grim reality of an estimated 34,000 people living rough into figures. The city has the second largest homeless population in the country.

Latest figures from the LAPD indicate that homeless people are being increasingly criminalized.

LAPD officers made over 6,600 misdemeanor arrests of homeless people in 2017, a 9 percent increase from 2016, according to the LAPD's end of year homelessness report released on Tuesday. Felony arrests jumped by 12 percent.

CNN desperately trying to keep alive Fake News story of sex worker jailed in Thailand who claims to have dirt on Trump and Russia

CNN is dispatching reporters around the world to help dig up clues and finally get to the bottom of the Trump campaign's Russia ties. Last month the network infamously sent a reporter to St. Petersburg, where he literally dug around a dumpster looking for leads.

Today CNN sent a reporter to Bangkok to speak with a prostitute who claims to have the goods on the Trump camp's alleged collusion with Russia. The woman, Anastasia Vashukevich, who is also a self-described "sex coach," is currently imprisoned, and hopes that America will offer her asylum in exchange for her story.

CNN apparently found this tale credible enough to send a reporter to cover.

'Kill Climate Deniers', a play to warm the hearts of budding social justice terrorists

kill Climate deniers
Do you know anyone who denies that there's such a thing as climate? Do you know anybody who hears the word "climate" and says, "Nuh-uh! You can't fool me, that's just made up!" I don't. Yet whenever somebody questions any aspect of the prevailing global warming orthodoxy, he or she is labeled a "climate denier." It's a clever little bit of deceptive rhetoric, linking climate change skeptics with deniers of the Holocaust. A Holocaust denier is an awful thing to be, so a "climate denier" must be just as bad.

You don't want to be one of those deniers, do you? You know how those people are.

Comment: The play's synopsis actually describes the underlying mentality of the common social justice warrior and the response of governing officials rather well. SWJ's, spurred by the successes of modern feminism, have taken the public mind hostage and instead of pointing out the oppressive tactics of these people, their opponents (anyone who doesn't think exactly as they do) are labeled as enemies of humanity.
