'Technical issue' causes stocks to plummet 99% on New York Stock Exchange; major outage at Czech Post services

Normal trading resumed late Monday morning after the New York Stock Exchange said a technical issue had led to large fluctuations in the prices displayed for certain stocks, including Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway.

A little after 11 a.m. ET, the NYSE said the issue had affected the main electronic stock price publisher, but that most stocks had since reopened or were in the process of reopening.

Comment: Interestingly, the issue at the Czech Republic's postal service, reported below, also occurred at 11am (albeit Czech time).

Earlier, NYSE said the issue involved "limit up, limit down bands," which are designed to limit volatility.

Some 50 stocks were affected, the website indicated, and trades in those companies was halted.

Comment: Voice of Europe reports:
Since Monday morning, the Czech Post has been grappling with a significant outage affecting its services. The official website and related services have been inaccessible, as confirmed by postal representatives.

Readers who contacted Novinky reported that the Czech Post websites went down around 11 a.m. In addition to the website, Czech Point services are also disrupted, preventing the sending of data messages.

Postal representatives confirmed the issues, stating, "We apologize for the temporary outage of the Czech Post website and related services, we are working on a fix." The cause of the outage remains unclear, with no information provided on whether it is due to a technical fault or a hacker attack.

There is also no clear timeline for when the website and services will be restored.
Unexplained outages and cyberattacks appear to be on the rise across much of the planet, and they're affecting everything from payment and emergency services, airports, to government voting systems.

Notably, this rise follows warnings (threats?) from the World Economic Forum of a looming cyberpandemic, and, more recently, the UK's deputy PM telling citizens to stockpile just 3 days worth of supplies in the event of some kind of serious systems outage:

University of Ghent to cease all collaboration with Israeli institutions

Ghent University (UGent) plans to end all partnerships with Israeli institutions, citing serious human rights violations and breaches of international law in Gaza, according to chancellor Rik Van de Walle.

Pro-Palestinian activists have occupied the UFO building at UGent for several weeks, demanding a comprehensive boycott against Israeli academic bodies. Hundreds of students have set up encampments in the building's entrance hall, hoisting flags in protest.

Van de Walle had asked the university's human rights commission to review all cooperations with Israeli universities and research centres, to bolster Ghent University's human rights policy. Previously, the university terminated three contracts involving Israeli organisations suspected of involvement in human rights violations.

On Tobacco, technocracy has a clever new idea

smoking
I don't smoke, but I am wary of efforts to prevent other people from so doing. Now, blue cities — and soon states, most likely — have hit upon a way to ban smoking known as "Tobacco Free Generation" (TFG).

It's Pretty Clever

Allow people who can legally buy tobacco today to purchase it, but permanently outlaw the sale of tobacco products to people based on the date of their birth — even as they become adults — as described glowingly in the New England Journal of Medicine:

20K Israeli soldiers injured, 8,298 disabled since October 7, Israel's channel 12 reports

© Social MediaFILE: Israeli soldiers photographed with lingerie of Palestinian women in Gaza. Israeli media and hospital records show that 20,000 occupation soldiers have been wounded in Gaza in confrontations against the Palestinian Resistance.
Israeli Channel 12 revealed that 20,000 occupation soldiers have been injured in Gaza since October 7, with 8,298 being classified as disabled, coining the data as a "peak number".

While Israeli media and official hospital records have been revealing a large number of injuries in Israeli ranks, the occupation military has been attempting to conceal its losses as part of its censorship policy by not admitting the actual number of losses.

As the Battle of Al-Aqsa Flood continues for the 239th day, the total death and injury toll among Israeli soldiers continues increasing, specifically as 14 occupation soldiers were wounded over the past 24 hours during confrontations in Gaza.

Comment: Meanwhile the number of willing soldiers appears to be slightly decreasing - because, whilst Israeli's wholeheartedly support the genocide, they don't actually want to risk their own lives doing it - and there have been a significant number of high profile resignations.

Meanwhile the number of Hamas recruits, according to some reports allegedly coming out of Palestine, is surging. And Hezbollah ramps up its retaliations.

All the while Israel's true nature as a rogue state becomes undeniable, and, increasingly, the general public and the emerging multipolar world pushes for it to be assigned pariah status:

Texas Governor Abbot says Trump convicted by 'kangaroo court'

The Manhattan trial was an attempt to sabotage the former president's bid for reelection, Greg Abbott has said

The New York trial in which presidential candidate Donald Trump was convicted was a sham perpetrated by the incumbent US president, Joe Biden, to strike out against a political opponent, Texas Governor Greg Abbott has said.

On Thursday, a Manhattan jury found Trump guilty of all 34 counts of falsifying business records, making Trump the first former president in US history to be convicted of a felony.

Prosecutors alleged that the former president illegally covered up a hush money payment that his former attorney, Michael Cohen, made to adult film star Stormy Daniels in the weeks before the 2016 presidential election to ensure her silence about an alleged affair from a decade prior.

Kate Middleton 'May not appear in public for rest of the year': Sources

kate middleton
The Princess of Wales will probably "not appear in public for the rest of the year," and is being "surrounded" by her birth family as she continues a course of preventive chemotherapy having been diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, royal sources and friends of Kate Middleton and Prince William have told The Daily Beast.

Kate and her family are expected to spend next week, which is a school holiday, at her and William's country home on the Sandringham Estate. Her parents, to whom she is close, are thought likely to visit.

William is expected to devote even more time to his family over the next six weeks having been unexpectedly gifted time off after the royal family said they would be stepping back from some engagements to avoid distracting from a snap U.K. general election called this week and due to take place on July 4.

Comment: The rumors are that the infamous park bench video was fabricated using AI tech because the Princess could not be filmed. Is it a terrible reaction to the vaccine? Is it a cancer?

Feds crack down on massive botnet, arrest administrator

Federal investigators have cracked down on one of the world's largest botnets, CBS News reported Wednesday.

The botnet, known as the 911 S5 Botnet, was implicated in generating tens of thousands of fraudulent transactions and costing victims billions of dollars, according to CBS News. The botnet's administrator, Chinese national YunHe Wang, was arrested and faces charges of leading a sophisticated cybercrime operation that impacted over 190 countries. The FBI has revealed the 911 S5 Botnet used 19 million compromised IP addresses as a conduit for a myriad of crimes including financial fraud, identity theft and child exploitation.
Wang allegedly profited substantially from this operation, purchasing luxury properties and items worldwide, totaling over $34 million. He was arrested last Friday and is charged with conspiracy and computer fraud among other counts, the outlet reported. Court documents detail how Wang sold Virtual Private Network (VPN) programs that, once downloaded, installed malware on users' computers. This malware enabled the stealthy co-opting of IP addresses, which were then sold to cybercriminals, allowing them to evade detection by masking their activities under the victims' IP addresses.

This botnet was particularly harmful as it facilitated over $5.9 billion in potential pandemic relief fraud losses, exploiting the U.S. federal lending programs intended to aid those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The unifying principle: Here's why the political divisions in the US today cannot be mended

classroom
Recently I was watching a short documentary about the history of political discourse and division in the US and it got me thinking about how the internal conflicts of the past might relate to the rampant social battles Americans are dealing with today. From early disagreements between various Founding Fathers on hot button issues like the Sedition Act, central banking and standing armies, to epic and disastrous conflagrations like the Civil War, America has never been "of one mind" on everything.

Overall, though, the longstanding assumption is that even when we slip and fall into disarray Americans will find common ground and move on towards the future together. It's a nice sentiment, but what if this ideal no longer applies?

There are some people that argue there was never a golden era for the US; that we've always been destructive, or exploitative or "imperialist." Of course, it's very easy to examine any given time period through the lens of modern sensibilities and pass judgment. How we would do things today is not necessarily how we would do things yesterday. We can't easily condemn the men and women of the past without at least recognizing that we will probably never see the issues of their day from their perspective.

Jury find Palestine Action activists NOT GUILTY of criminal damage

Two activists from Palestine Action were unanimously acquitted of criminal damage by a jury in Leicester Crown Court after one hour and 40 minutes of deliberation. For six days from 19th May 2021, four people occupied the roof of UAV Tactical Systems, an Elbit drone factory in Leicester. The action was taken urgently in response to the ongoing bombardment of Gaza at the time.

Whilst on the roof, the activists spray painted messages including "Shut Elbit Down" and "Free Palestine", damaged a skylight to reveal a military drone inside and sprayed the building in blood red paint. In total, it was claimed that the knock on costs of extra security since the action amounted to £40K of losses per month, totalling £1.6million.

Three days into the action, two of the four came off the roof in order to ration supplies. The jury heard from one defendant about how the two which remained on the roof and were subsequently charged, resorted to drinking rainwater in order to maintain the disruption for as long as possible in order to save lives in Palestine.

Massive fire breaks out at yet another US chicken farm, 'total loss' of over 1.2 million birds

food plant fire
FILE: illustrative
A poultry farm in southern Illinois housing at least 1 million chickens caught fire Wednesday night killing mass amounts of poultry and causing significant property damage, reports say.

Authorities were alerted to the fire at Farina Farms Inc. Poultry Farm around 6:30 p.m., Marion County Sheriff Kevin Cripps told local media outlets including Fox 2 and KSDK. Over 15 fire departments were dispatched to the area where at least three buildings were engulfed in flames that reached between 13,000 and 15,000 feet high.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Department.

The Beckemeyer Volunteer Fire Department from Clinton County, one of the units to dispatch to the scene, posted to Facebook after returning from fighting the fire around 4:30 a.m. in the morning. The Beckemeyer department contributed 30,000 gallons of water to help put out the fire in Marion County, 43 miles away from their jurisdiction.
