The wife of the ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has reportedly fled the Persian Gulf kingdom to London with £31 million (over $39 million) following the break-up of their marriage.

Princess Haya Al Hussein, who is the half-sister of Jordan's King Abdullah II, is said to be seeking a divorce after initially fleeing to Germany, where she sought political asylum, British tabloid newspaper the Daily Mail reported.

A German diplomat apparently helped the princess, 45, escape from Dubai. There are reports that she has also taken her son Zayed, 7, and daughter Al Jalila, 11, with her.

It is claimed that German authorities have refused a request from the wealthy ruler of Dubai, who is also the vice president and prime minister of the United Arab Emirates, to return his wife, sparking a diplomatic crisis between Germany and the UAE.

Crocodiles, bears, lions, apes, cobras and scorpions, as well as other large predators and poisonous creatures, are now the subject of a ban from being kept as pets in Russia, to safeguard the health of both 'owner' and animal.

Such beasts pose dangers to people, while apartments or country houses differ greatly from the natural habitats of the animals, a difference that "may affect their health negatively, even causing death," a new act, signed by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on Friday, reads.

Large predators such as bears, wolves, lions, tigers, lynxes and others are among the species to benefit from the new protections. The ban also includes crocodiles and carnivore turtles, Komodo Dragons, bearded lizards and other reptiles. Also set to get a new lease on life are snakes such as cobras and pythons, as well as many poisonous arachnids, including scorpions and tarantulas.

Aquarium lovers should forget about putting sharks or manta rays in their household fish tanks from now on, with coral polyps also outlawed in the home. Penguins, pelicans, owls, falcons and some species of ostriches have been added to the list of birds banned from homesteads.

Newark International Airport reopens after grounding flights for an hour

Airport
Newark Liberty Airport reopened Saturday morning after it grounded all flights into and out of the airport due to an "airport emergency."

"#EWR Airport reopened. Expect delays. Please check with your carriers," the airport tweeted at 9:37 a.m. Saturday.

At about 8:20 a.m., United Flight 2098, which is an Airbus 319, landed on Runway 22L at Newark, a law enforcement source told ABC News. The aircraft departed LaGuardia airport for Houston but was diverted to Newark with a hydraulic issue.

Upon landing, the left main gear tires blew and the front landing gear was damaged and the aircraft was evacuated, the source said. There were 133 people on board, including crew, who were taken to Terminal C.

Reddit 'quarantines' pro-Donald Trump group 'r/The_Donald' over threats

donald trump
A Reddit forum for self-described supporters of President Trump was "quarantined" on Wednesday over threats against police and public officials in Oregon, the tech giant said.

Reddit officials said the moderators on the subreddit "r/The_Donald" - which counts about 750,000 followers - had encouraged or allowed behavior that broke the site's violence policy.

"We are sensitive to what could be considered political speech," said Reddit spokeswoman Anna Soellner.

Comment: Interestingly, this whole quarantine happened shortly after the infamous Carlos Maza complained on Twitter about r/The_Donald. This isn't the first time Maza has successfully managed to have people or platforms censored.

Inventing Victimhood: How universities serve as "hate-crime hoax" mills

Gibson's Bakery Oberlin College
This month, an Ohio jury awarded the owners of Gibson's Food Mart and Bakery in Oberlin $44 million in combined punitive and compensatory damages in its defamation action against Oberlin College and a top university administrator. The incident at the heart of the lawsuit stems from a 2016 hate-crime hoax involving three black students, occurring the day after Donald Trump's presidential victory. Gibson's, owned and operated by the same family for over a century, has been a popular spot for Oberlin College students looking to buy groceries within walking distance of campus. Gibson's also supplied the college dining hall with baked goods.

On November 9, 2016, Oberlin students Jonathan Aladin, Endia Lawrence, and Cecelia Whettstone fought with Allyn Gibson, the owner's grandson, after he tried to apprehend Aladin for stealing alcohol. The students claimed that they had been racially profiled. Students, professors, and even some in the Oberlin administration launched a boycott of the bakery, including protests and pickets. The school cancelled its contracts with Gibson's. But the allegations proved baseless: the students had in fact been caught stealing from the store, and they admitted as much when they pled guilty the following August.

First, he served in the Coast Guard, where he rose to the rank of lieutenant commander. He married, had a family, and devoted himself utterly to his two little girls. After he got out of the military, he worked as a moderator for Facebook, where he purged the social network of the worst stuff that its users post on a daily basis: the hate speech, the murders, the child pornography.

The man convicted for ramming his car into a crowd during the "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville has been sentenced to life in prison.

James Alex Fields had his sentencing hearing in federal court in Virginia, in the same town where his 2017 car ramming led to the death of a counter-protester, Heather Heyer, and injured others.

Fields, who is now 22, already pleaded guilty to 29 of 30 federal hate crimes in March. The Associated Press reports that in part of the plea deal that he reached at the time, the prospect of a death sentence was removed.

Thomas Cullen, the U.S. Attorney for the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia, called the car ramming a "hate-inspired act of domestic terrorism."

The man who allowed a private group to build a portion of a wall at the U.S.-Mexico border in Sunland Park, N.M., is reportedly being charged with illegally constructing without a permit and could now face jail time.

George Cudahy, owner of American Eagle Brick Factory, allowed the group We Build The Wall to use his property to build a portion of the wall but apparently did so without first securing the proper permits, according to KFOX 14.

The city of Sunland Park filed a criminal complaint last month, and Cudahy failed to appear in court for his initial hearing last week. The city will reportedly file a criminal summons if Cudahy misses his next hearing.
