'Israel concerned with build-up of Iranian forces in Syria near Golan border' says Likud Minister Steinitz

Likud Minister Steinitz says Israel will make it clear to US, Russia and other world powers that Iranian forces must not be allowed to mass on Israel's border.

Israel is concerned with the build-up of Iranian forces in Syria, near the border with Israel, National Infrastructure, Energy and Water Minister Yuval Steinitz (Likud) said in an interview with Army Radio on Tuesday.

Steinitz's comments came amid the recent addition of Russian troops to Syria to bolster President Bashar Assad in his fight against Islamic State and other rebel groups challenging his rule in Syria. However, the Likud minister was more concerned with the infusion of troops from Assad's other central backer, Iran.

"Nobody wants to see Russian forces in the area of the Golan Heights, but we definitely don't want to see Iranian forces near Israel," Steinitz told Army Radio.

Steinitz, speaking as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was en route to New York to address the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday, said that Israel would clarify Israel's concerns regarding Iranian forces in Syria in discussions with the relevant parties.

"In all of our discussions, first and foremost with the United States, but also with Russia and the rest of the world powers, we must make sure that the Iranian forces will stay in Iran," Steinitz said.

A senior Israeli security source said earlier this month that an Iranian Islamic Republican Guards Corp force, comprised of hundreds of soldiers, recently entered Syria to assist the embattled Assad regime. Tehran dispatched its force "in light of Assad's" ongoing distress, the source stated, adding that the deployment is part of a wider Russian-Iranian coordinated effort to prevent what remains of the Assad regime from collapsing.

Comment: The new alliances have Israeli dictators squirming in their seats. Knowing how trigger-happy they are, restraint will not be their strong suit - including goading the US to defend it.

Russia and the European Commission sign winter gas deal for Ukraine

Russia and the European Commission have signed the so-called winter package gas deal for Ukraine, and the ball is now in Kiev's court, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said Wednesday.

"Now, as they say, the ball is in Ukraine's court, the protocol has been signed by us and the EC," Novak told reporters.

Comment: After the EU gave Ukraine €500mn, Ukraine announced it will be able to pay for Russian gas and gas transit toward EU is secure:
Bloomberg, September 26, 2015:
Russia will offer Ukraine gas at about $227 per 1,000 cubic meters (35,300 cubic feet) through December, according to a decree on the government's website Friday. Gazprom has estimated the price before a discount at $252.

"The Ukrainian party secures transit during the winter period and the EU will ensure the organization of financing on behalf of various international financial institutions," Novak said. The European Commission said that at least $500 million under that aid should be available by the end of this year.

'Learn how to beat Russia': Obama authorizes $20mn in 'non-lethal' military aid & training for Ukraine

One day after Ukraine announced that US instructors would start training the country's special forces, President Obama has authorized the provision of up to $20 million to Ukraine via the State Department to fund training and other similar activities.

"The authority... to direct the drawdown of up to $20 million in defense articles and services of the Department of Defense and military education and training to provide assistance for the Government of Ukraine," the Presidential Memorandum says, specifying that another $1.5 million could be used to offer "nonlethal commodities and services."

The announcement of additional funds allocated for the training of Ukrainian troops follows a statement by President Petro Poroshenko, who said that American instructors will start training Ukrainian special-operations troops this November.

"We have agreed that the best US instructors will finally start training the Ukrainian special forces, our special-operations troops, starting from November," Poroshenko said in New York after meeting representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora living in the US.

Comment: So Ukraine military funding doesn't stop amid a possible US government shutdown.

Increasing tension: Jewish extremism spikes in Israel amid Al-Aqsa mosque clashes

A wave of violence centered around the Al-Aqsa mosque, which was attacked by extremist Jews, has reached the West Bank. Palestinian demonstrators clashed with Israeli police, while protesters hurled stones at security forces, who used rubber bullets against them.

Hundreds of demonstrators marched towards the Israeli settlement of Bet El on Tuesday, throwing rocks at "passing vehicles and at forces that arrived at the scene," according to Israeli police.

In turn, Israeli security forces used tear gas, stun grenades and fired rubber and low-caliber bullets at the legs of protesters, at least six of whom suffered leg injuries.

Comment: The violence is escalating in Israel as tensions are increasing steadily. This may explode into something even worse.

Russia enters the fray in Syria: Why and how

Moscow is now getting ready to use its military in Syria. Here is a brief explanation of why Russia is engaging, who it is going to fight, how and for how long.

Comment: After weeks of talk, rumor and strategic maneuvers, Russia is officially entering the fight against ISIS. Barring any foreign interference, it will be interesting to see how much more effective the fight will be now that ISIS will be fighting a real enemy (in addition to the Syrian army and Kurdish militias), not the joke of a 'coalition' set up by the U.S. See also:

Unanimous: Russia parliament approves Putin's request of Russian military in Syria

© Sergey Mamontov / RIA Novosti
The upper chamber of the Russian parliament has unanimously given a formal consent to President Putin to use the nation's military in Syria to fight terrorism at a request from the Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Consent was necessary for deployment of troops for foreign combat missions under the Russian constitution.

Comment: Russia lives by its ideals. Compare to the U.S. Consent from Syria? Nope. Consent from the UN? Nope. Consent from Congress? Nope.

The request for use of force was sent by the president after considering the large number of Russian citizens, who went to join terrorist groups fighting in Syria, head of the presidential administration Sergey Ivanov told media. There are thousands of them, and Russia's national security would be under threat, should they return home, he added.

Ivanov stressed that no ground operations are planned in Syria. Russia would use its warplanes to hit terrorist targets when requested by the Syrian government. He stressed that unlike the US-led coalition of countries that bombs militant troops in Syria, Russia was invited to do so by the legal authorities of Syria and thus follows international law.

The bombing campaign is time-limited, Ivanov said, not revealing a clear deadline for it. He said he was not authorized to disclose details of the operation such as the number of warplanes involved.

Comment: Putin's strategy has worked like a charm. First, there were around 2 weeks of murky, rumor-filled reports of a build-up of Russian military activity in Tartus and Latakia, Syria. Some were false, some had a seed of truth, but it got everyone talking. This at the same time that Western media was hyping the refugee crisis and the danger of ISIS 'infiltrating Europe'. Second, there was talk of a new coalition to fight ISIS. This irked the West: Russian assistance in Latakia makes any no-fly zone in Syria a no-go. And a real coalition risks actually defeating ISIS, which the West doesn't really want. (They were counting on ISIS as the means or pretext of taking out Assad.) Now this, quick on the heels of Putin's talk at the UN and his meeting with Obama, using the West's own pretext: the threat of radicalized nationals 'returning home'. Of course, Russia has other reasons for going to Syria, too: Burying ISIS and unipolarity together: Putin at the UN

Burying ISIS and unipolarity together: Putin at the UN

russia isis
Let's note a simple thing which is absolutely essential for understanding what happened in New York. The Kremlin, and this is already absolutely obvious, is going to put an end to ISIS. This will solve several Russian problems and give Russia some tangible bonuses:
  1. We will eliminate a terrorist threat to our country at a distance. Every ISISer killed in Syria is an ISISer which didn't come to Russia to fight;
  2. Retaining control over Syria, we will permanently suspend the project of the Qatar-EU gas pipeline, which is a dream of the USA. The Russian gas stranglehold around the neck of Europe will remain in place, and this is very important;
  3. Eliminating ISIS in Syria and Iraq, we will cut off the supply of smuggled oil, which is sold at dumping prices, to world markets. This alone will pay for any military operation against ISIS within a few months, if not a few weeks.
  4. Russia, keeping the gas stranglehold around the neck of the EU, will remove another noose around the neck of Europe - the American slipknot in the form of an influx of refugees allegedly fleeing ISIS. American NGO's, which are massively organizing an "exodus of Arabs to the EU" will collapse, and after the defeat of ISIS, EU residents will not be forced to accept millions of refugees, even if they show hundreds more staged photos of children's corpses;
  5. Russia will fix itself among the main "providers of security" in the Middle East. This position is expensive in the most literal sense, as the main trade routes of the planet intersect the Middle East and the main sources of hydrocarbons are located there.
In his own time, Putin blocked the military intervention of the USA in Syria, and now Putin himself is actually leading a military intervention in Syria, and the US can't do anything about it. It's enough to understand who has won and who has lost the game. The US tried to intervene and failed. Russia, by forces of an international coalition, will conduct an intervention, and after yesterday it has become clear that the US already can't stop it. Of course, they will put sticks in the wheels, but Washington already can't block the process.

Comment: And now, two days later, the Russian parliament has approved sending its military to conduct airstrikes in Syria, at the request of Assad:

Congress invokes 'martial law' as it scurries to avoid another government shutdown

Washington, D.C.
© James Lawler Duggan / Reuters
A temporary government spending bill is expected to clear the House and Senate just before a midnight deadline on Wednesday, averting a government shutdown and providing funding until December 11. As a precaution, House lawmakers have invoked "martial law."

The use of martial law fast-tracks a spending bill by bypassing typical procedures. One of those procedures is that the House of Representatives has to wait a day after the Rules Committee produces rules for a floor debate before a vote on the bill can occur, according to the Hill. By invoking martial law, House lawmakers can vote on the short-term government spending measure on the same day.

Comment: Congress seems to not really want a budget so they can spend money at will to the detriment of society.

The psychopathic ambition of Benjamin Netanyahu: "Israel must become a world power"

Image

'No one makes alliances with the weak,' says Prime Minister shortly after meeting Putin.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu offered a glimpse into his strategic aspirations Thursday at a Jewish New Year's reception at Mossad headquarters, which also marked 65 years since the intelligence arm's founding.

"We cannot solve the basic problems of the Middle East," he said. "They are revealing themselves in their full force, and today our enemy is a double enemy: it is radical Shi'ite Islam that is led by Iran and its proxies, and the Sunni one, currently led by ISIS (Islamic State)."

Comment: These statements are meant for public consumption. Mossad is already on board. The government of Iran and its Lebanese ally Hezbollah have been made to become enemies because of Israel's covert and overt aggression in the middle east. And funny how ISIS has not made any movements into Israel, ain't it? That's because, for all intents and purposes, ISIS has been created, maneuvered and manipulated into doing Israel's bidding in Syria and Iraq.

Comment: During his address at the United Nations this week, Russian President Vladimir Putin said: "We are suggesting to not be guided by ambition, but by mutual values and shared interests. To unite our efforts based on international law to solve the issues we are facing, and to create a truly broad international anti-terrorism coalition". Here's the obvious: If Israel's government had been sincere about fighting terrorism (as opposed to actually perpetrating it) it would jump at the chance of coordinating with Russia and other nations to help eradicate one of the most brutal and destructive terrorist fighting forces in modern times. But what does it do? It coordinates its attacks of Syria to coincide with ISIS' own military strategy. That's because Israel's government has no "mutual values and shared values" with the nations of the world that seek peace.

Israeli fighter jets launch new airstrikes on Gaza Strip

Israeli warplanes have carried out a number of airstrikes against the Gaza Strip in yet another act of aggression against the besieged coastal territory.

The airborne assaults, which were launched in the early hours of Wednesday morning, reportedly hit four areas in the southern parts of the Palestinian blockaded enclave. There has been no word on the possible casualties and damage inflicted by those strikes.

The Israeli military claimed in a statement that the raids were conducted a few hours after a rocket allegedly fired from the center of Gaza was intercepted by the regime's so-called Iron Dome missile system over the city of Ashdodon the Mediterranean shore.

The regime's military blamed the Palestinian resistance movement of Hamas for the rocket attack, but according to Israeli daily Haaretz, a Daesh-affiliated group, called the Omar Hadid Brigade, claimed the responsibility for the rocket fire.

The Israeli daily reported that the Grad-type rocket was the first to be launched at Ashdod from Gaza since the Israeli war on the Palestinian enclave in summer of 2014.

Comment: Fire now, find out 'who dun it' later! ...and the US pays Israel to do this.
