SOTT Exclusive: With sanctions relief underway, Iran's economy returns to the world stage

October 18th was 'Adoption Day', on which Obama signed an order putting into effect the Iranian nuclear deal. "Today marks an important milestone toward preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and ensuring its nuclear program is exclusively peaceful going forward," Obama said. However, it will not be until 'Implementation Day', which may take place in late 2016 at the earliest, that all nuclear-related sanctions will be removed.

Needless to say, the fearmongering propaganda with regard to the Iranian nuclear threat was based on lies from the very beginning. Iran was never the threat they claimed it to be, and during the nine years the country was sanctioned, the US hypocrites continued developing their own newest destructive weapons for their warmongering policy, and do so to this day. As President Putin said at the recent Valdai International Discussion Club in Sochi:
Recently the United States conducted the first test of the anti-missile defence system in Europe. What does this mean? It means we were right when we argued with our American partners. They were simply trying yet again to mislead us and the whole world. To put it plainly, they were lying. It was not about the hypothetical Iranian threat, which never existed. It was about an attempt to destroy the strategic balance, to change the balance of forces in their favour not only to dominate, but to have the opportunity to dictate their will to all: to their geopolitical competition and, I believe, to their allies as well. This is a very dangerous scenario, harmful to all, including, in my opinion, to the United States. [...]

We've been hearing arguments this whole time about the Iranian nuclear threat, but as I said in my remarks before, our position was always that there was no such threat, and now not only we but the entire international community share this view.

The United States initiated the signing of an agreement with Iran on settling the Iranian nuclear issue. We actively followed and supported our US and Iranian partners on the road to a common decision and this agreement has now come into force and Iran has agreed to send its enriched uranium out of the country. So if there is no Iranian nuclear problem, why develop a missile defence system? You could stop the project, but not only has the project not stopped, on the contrary, new tests and exercises are taking place. These systems will be in place in Romania by the end of the year and in Poland by 2018 or 2020.
Regardless of the sanctions put in place, Iran has recently been taking important steps towards progress in economic growth. While the US' intent may have been to strengthen its ties with Iran as it continues to lose its grip on the Middle East, Iran's deputy foreign minister for European and American Affairs, Majid Takht Ravanchi, has made it clear that as business opportunities arise, Iran "will not forget those who worked with us during the times of hardship" - those countries being China, Russia and India, not the US. In addition, not trusting intentions from the US, Ayatollah Khamenei said in early August, "We will firmly block their way. We will not allow the US to make economic, political or cultural inroads into the country. We will counter such infiltration with all our power".

Shock! Tony Blair denies ordering burning of document ruling Iraq war illegal

Image
A Psychopathic warmongering 'love-in' took place at Bush's Crawford, Texas ranch in early 2002. 1.5 million people died as a result.
Former Prime Minister Tony Blair has denied ordered the burning of documents drafted by Attorney General Lord Goldsmith which argued the Iraq war would be illegal weeks before the invasion began in 2003.

In a statement responding to allegations made on Sunday, Blair's office said: "This is nonsense as far as Tony Blair knows.

"No one ever said that in his presence and in any event it would be quite absurd to think that anyone could destroy any such document."

"Mr Blair and Lord Goldsmith dealt with all the circumstances surrounding the advice at the (Iraq) inquiry at length and with all the documents. The fact is the advice given was that the action was legal and it was given for perfectly good reasons," the statement added.

The Mail on Sunday newspaper had reported that on the eve of the war Downing Street was gripped with panic as Britain's top lawyer declared any such move illegal in a 13 page document.

An anonymous insider told the Mail that ministers and aides in possession of a copy of the document were told to "burn it. Destroy it."

US Special Forces sent to Syria as 'human shields' to salvage terror assets

Image

Obama's decision to send Special Forces into Syria is being widely viewed as a US military escalation in the country. The troop dispatch also signals that the US trying to forestall Russian successes in wiping out Washington's regime-change assets in Syria.

In short, the US Special Forces are being used as "human shields" to curb Russian air strikes against anti-government mercenaries, many of whom are instrumental in Washington's regime-change objective in Syria.

First of all, we need to view a host of developments, including the hastily convened "peace talks" in Vienna, as a response by the US and its allies to the game-changing military intervention by Russia. That intervention, beginning on September 30, has not only dealt massive blows to militants, it has completely changed the balance of forces to give the Assad government the upper hand in the war against foreign-backed extremists. That, in turn, has sent the US-led powers trying to topple Damascus into disarray.

Comment: It's heartening to notice how many observers can see through all the transparently stupid and conniving moves the US is making now.

The advancing Syrian army liberates eight villages in two days

The Syrian army has liberated Shalashil and Tel Dadeen in the southeast part of Aleppo, according to the source. The Syrian army has liberated eight villages in the southeast part of the northern Syrian Aleppo Governorate from terrorist groups in the past two days, a military source told Sputnik on Sunday.

"Today the army has liberated two villages — Shalashil and Tel Dadeen in the southeast part of Aleppo Governorate", the source said.

He added that the army liberated six villages on Saturday. Syria has been mired in a civil war since 2011, with government forces fighting on multiple fronts against opposition factions and extremist groups, including Islamic State.

Comment: In all the time the US was involved in Syria, there is not a single story of this kind to be heard. And the same goes when we look at the US' whole 'war on terror' and all the countries devastated by it. A war that is actually fought for the people should have these kinds of stories, and it is telling that US 'intervention' never brought such news. Good for Syrian army, their Russian support and for the Syrian people!

A trail of bodies leads back to the USA: America's death dealing in Guatemala, Part 1

Exhumation in Guatemala

A friend of mine told me the following curious story. In the early 1990s, while taking a course at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government, he sat next to an ordinary-looking older man, a soft-spoken, pudgy fellow, who said he was from Guatemala. After a few weeks into the term, he came to class one day and found the man sitting alone, far from the other students, who seemed to be avoiding him.

Another student explained to my friend who the man was: Hector Gramajo, a former Guatemalan general and defense minister who was there on a Mason fellowship, studying for a degree in public administration. While he was Army Vice-Chief of Staff and Director of the Army General Staff, the Guatemalan army massacred more than 75,000 Mayans in what a United Nations Truth Commission later (1999) called genocide.

On graduation day, while in his academic gown, Gramajo was handed court papers informing him that he was being sued in the US by eight Guatemalans who together with family members had been abused by soldiers under his command. Later, the lawsuit was joined by one from Sister Dianna Ortiz, an American nun, who had been raped and tortured by Gramajo's men.

He didn't contest the lawsuit; he just ignored it, and left the US for Guatemala to run for - what else! - the presidency. Before he left, however, he gave a public lecture at Harvard and, blessed by that august institution, and with his prestigious degree in hand, went to his other alma mater, the School of the Americas (SOA), which some refer to as the "School of Assassins," at Ft. Benning, where he gave the commencement address. (More on this "educational" organization below.)

CIA coups and the School of Assassins: America's death dealing in Guatemala, Part 2

Guatemala's current situation and tragic history can be traced back to the CIA-led coup in 1954 that ousted the democratically elected government of President Jacobo Arbenz and installed the military dictator Carlos Armas. Arbenz was an advocate for land reform and was loved by the poor. The wealthy hated him. And when the CIA couldn't bribe him, they ousted him in a most humiliating way. Even after he went into exile, the agency used constant disinformation to smear him in every way imaginable until his strange death in a bathtub in 1971.

Since the 1954 coup, and with the ongoing support of the CIA and the School of the Americas (SOA), the Guatemalan people have lived a nightmare. What follows should give you a sense of the CIA's thinking behind the coup and its aftermath. It is a transcription of a CIA document released to The National Security Archive, a research institute, on May 23, 1997 under a Freedom of Information Act request.

Monsanto desperation: California's plan to list Glyphosate as cause for cancer 'may be illegal'

Image
Monsanto argued that California's decision to identify glyphosate as a cause of cancer under the state's Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act may be illegal.

Monsanto Company is fighting back against California's recent decision to list glyphosate, the main ingredient in Monsanto's popular herbicide RoundUp, as a cancer-causing chemical.

In late September, California's Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) issued a notice stating that glyphosate would be added to the state's list of cancer-causing chemicals under the state's Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, also known as Proposition 65.

The decision was made after the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the research agency of the World Health Organization (WHO), published a report in March that classified glyphosate "as probably carcinogenic to humans." State officials said this decision is a requirement following the IARC's findings.

Comment: Monsanto's worst fear may be coming true
The traditional chemical industry approach to such a problem is a familiar repertoire of intimidation and public relations. Fifty years ago, the chemical industry outwitted and out-maneuvered environmentalists after the death of Rachel Carson (see the books Toxic Sludge is Good for You and Trust Us We're Experts). But that was before email, open access scientific publication, and the internet. Monsanto and its allies have steadily lost ground in a world of peer-to-peer communication. GMOs have become a liability, despite their best efforts.

The historic situation is this: in any country, public acceptance of GMOs has always been based on lack of awareness of their existence. Once that ignorance evaporates and the scientific and social realities start to be discussed, ignorance cannot be reinstated. From then on the situation moves into a different, and much more difficult phase for the defenders of GMOs.

Best of the Web: Just like the Nazis: Israeli military threatens Palestinian ghetto, "We will gas you until you all die"

Yazan Ikhlayel

A shocking video has emerged recording a loud verbal threat from the Israeli military to residents of Aida refugee camp near Bethlehem. As a military jeep rolls down an empty quiet street a threatening voice comes over the loudspeaker "You throw stones and we will hit you with gas until you die." The words spoken seems almost unfathomable.

Middle East Eye (MEE) reports the video was recorded on October 29 by a youth, 17-year-old Yazan Ikhlayel, on his iPhone. Ikhlayel was at Aida's community center with a clear view of the road below. As Ikhlayel recorded the scene the jeep slows and then come to a halt as the threats continue. You can begin to see stones being thrown at :28 in the video. The threat also warns they were holding a person "one of you" and if they didn't stop throwing stones they would slaughter the person:

Comment: The IDF is sounding more like ISIS with each passing day. It seems that the IDF really are pathological enough to think they can get away with this type of genocidal talk. Unfortunately for them, they don't realize that the vast majority of humanity, which has at least some degree of conscience, will hear this and be utterly appalled. Keep digging that hole, Israel; you're soon to find yourself in it!
