The Syrian Arab Army and its allies have pushed militants out of several strategically important regions in the province of Latakia following a five-day-long operation, a field commander told Sputnik, adding that the SAA have also destroyed military equipment delivered to the rebels from another Syrian province.

The source did not provide exact locations that are now under the SAA control, but said that rebel-held areas in the city of Kinsabba are the most important of all recently freed regions in Latakia.

"We have kept up such a fierce fight that the terrorists have been forced to call for reinforcements from different regions in Latakia and Idlib," the source said, commenting on the blitz offensive that took the rebels by surprise.

Leaders of the world, let Putin be your model!

Putin UN speech 800px

Globalists, who want to be the only elite in the world, have forced different but in some ways similar countries to unite against them. How did this happen, and why has the President of Russia become a symbol of resistance to globalization?

How the globalists hung the Soviet elites out to dry

The collapse of the USSR was the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the late 20th century, yet part of the Soviet elite had high hopes for it, having done everything they could to make it happen. The Soviet system did not allow them to fully enjoy the fruits of their positions, and Stalin's imperfect system of checks and balances put their status at permanent risk.

The United States made a very good offer to the Soviet elite. Calling off the ideological confrontation, they would get rid of the socialist system, declaring it outdated, and in return, they would gain their "rightful" place as part of the future global world elite. This is how the Soviet Union met its untimely demise.

As early as 1992, it became clear that their American partners had left the gullible Russians out to dry, taking advantage of human weakness to "solve the Russian issue once and for all" and become the sole world hegemon. The collapse of the Soviet Union was followed by war in Chechnya and the attempt to have Russia itself collapse into a number of conflicting or competing national and regional entities.

It was time for the elites to find a way out.

Militants in the besieged Syrian city of Aleppo continue to receive help from foreign powers that support the forces opposing President Assad's troops, the Financial Times reports. That's despite Al-Qaeda-linked terrorists forming a large part of the opposition.

The militants encircled inside Aleppo allege they have no shortage of weapons and ammo, having been supplied by "tens of trucks" from Turkey, the FT reports, citing an activist working on both sides of the border.

Regional powers such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar are paying for weapons and supplies being delivered into rebel-controlled areas of Syria, turning a blind eye to some of the militants' terrorist affiliations. "The Americans, of course, knew what was going on. They ignored it to put some pressure back on Russia and Iran," the FT quotes a Western diplomat in contact with the opposition as saying.

Ecuadorian ex-foreign minister warns to end Assange asylum after DNC leak

Assange in the Ecuadorian embassy
© Toby Melville / ReutersAssange has been in the Ecuadorian embassy in London for over four years.
Ecuador is being urged to end its asylum of Wikileaks co-founder Julian Assange by one of its most prominent diplomats, following the recent leak of Democratic National Committee (DNC) emails.

José Ayala Lasso, a three-time foreign minister and the first UN Human Rights Commissioner, made the claims in El Comerico.

He insists that allowing Assange to "influence political activities" with the release of 20,000 DNC emails, which the former diplomat claims was done with "technical support from Russia", is detrimental to the South American country's image.

Lasso also writes that Vladimir Putin "would be more satisfied with the triumph of Trump" in November's US presidential election.

Disgusting! Theresa May: Elderly should sell homes to pay for social care

Comment: Then the queen should sell her palace and use the proceeds to fund social care.

Theresa May's policy chief has suggested that people with valuable homes who face high social care costs in old age should downsize or re-mortgage to cover their bills, the Observer can reveal.

Director of policy John Godfrey has suggested that over the next 10 years the solution to the social care crisis lies in people selling up or releasing some of the equity in their property.

"On a 10-year view ... equity release is going to be hugely important, because if you look at the amount of housing equity across the UK that is owned by people of post-retirement age, that is really where an awful lot of the money sits at the moment," Godfrey told an independent commission last year. "Can people either downshift or liberate some of that money through equity release to fund their living costs?"

One in 10 people end up paying more than £100,000 in care costs in old age, research has shown. Equity release involves borrowing against the value of a home or selling all or part of it for a lump sum or a monthly income. Godfrey, who was a special adviser to Douglas Hurd in Margaret Thatcher's administration, added that he believed the government should encourage people to sell their homes to release cash through the building of suitable retirement homes.

"As far as downshifting is concerned, you move into another area of policy altogether, which is the need to build more housing to give people a choice of the right sort of home."

Cyber espionage: 'State-supported' Project Sauron malware attacks world's top PCs

Two top electronic security firms have discovered a new powerful malware suite being used to target just dozens of high-value targets around the world. The research shows that it was likely developed on the orders of a government engaging in cyber espionage.

The California-based Symantec has labeled the group behind the attack Strider, while Moscow-based Kaspersky Labs dubbed it ProjectSauron. Both are references to J. R. R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, a nod to the fact that the original malware code contained the word "Sauron."

But behind the playful literary allusions is a powerful piece of software, capable of "harvesting" passwords on entire networks and "modules are designed to perform specific functions like stealing documents, recording keystrokes, and stealing encryption keys from both infected computers and attached USB sticks," according to Kaspersky.

South Front: 2,000 US-backed terrorists dead after 10 days of battle with Syrian Army

aleppo
In the last ten days, 2,000 members of Jeish al-Fatah terrorist group were killed and many others were wounded in clashes with the Syrian government forces in the southern and southwestern parts of Aleppo city, the Fars news agency reported on Monday.

Several rounds of Jeish al-Fatah's offensives, targeted to lift the Syrian army's siege on Aleppo, were repelled by the Syrian troops in the last ten days. As result, at least 2,000 terrorists were killed and many more were wounded.

According to several commanders within the ranks of the Syrian army and Hezbollah, the western states, especially the US warships deployed in the Mediterranean Sea, are providing logistical aid and intelligence support for the terrorists in Aleppo. The latest intelligence operations by the resistance forces showed that intelligence is sent by the US warships to Jeish al-Fatah terrorists in Syria.
"The western countries' warships are providing the terrorists with information and intel about the resistance forces' moves round the clock and they [the terrorists] continue their operations with the help of the very same information," Fars quoted the words of a sources in the resistance forces.

What could Erdogan's rapprochement with Russia mean for the war in Syria?

Putin i Erdogan
© AFP 2016/
Russia's decision to intervene with in Syria, including with tactical air support, to the legally elected government of Bashar al-Assad, is based on fighting an external invasion posed by Islamist rebels which have been selected, armed, trained and infiltrated into Syria from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the US, England, France and Turkey. The strategic goal of Russia was more far reaching, lying in restricting US domination in the Middle East and forwarding the massive return of Russia in this region, after an absence of 30 years.

The method chosen by Russia proved extremely effective, since Russian aerial bombardments have created breaches in the lines of Islamist rebels, which immediately were developed by the Syrian army land troops, releasing over 50% of the territory occupied by the rebels.

On the other hand, the US has failed in terms of creating an army of opponents to fight against the army of Bashar al-Assad in Syria. And the change of US strategy in January 2016, when aerial bombing commenced, began to be made in favor of land-based Kurdish forces in Syria, led by groups of US special forces, marked a turning point in US relations with Turkey. Turkey is enemy no. 1 for the Kurds. The attempted military coup should be regarded only as an attempt to oust from power President Recep Erdogan, who does not agree with the creation by Americans of a Kurdish state encompassing 45% of the current territory of Turkey [1].

Russia's President has submitted an agreement reached with the Syrian Republic to the State Duma for approval that would authorize the placement of a Russian Air Force group in Syria for an unspecified period of time.

Vladimir Putin has also tasked Deputy Defense Minister Nikolai Pankov with presenting the agreement to both parliamentary chambers as his appointed representative.

The agreement, which was signed in Damask, Syria on August 26 of last year, specifies that the Russian air force group would be deployed at the Hmeimim airfield in Latakia province to maintain peace and stability in the region. The document emphasizes that the placement is of a strictly defensive character and not targeted against any other state.

Comment: RIA adds:
The text of the agreement states that Russia has been donated the base, will have at its disposal the airfield Hmeymim with all its infrastructure. In this period, the deployment of Russian aircraft and helicopters is not limited. Now it only remains to be determined the status of the areas immediately adjacent to the airfield, which will house the Russian military. Russian VKS has been based in Hmeymim since the beginning of the operation against ISIS.

The State Duma pledges support

Chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee Vladimir Komoedov already said that MPs would support this agreement with Damascus. "Syria will be troubled for a long time, so it is necessary to keep the forces in combat readiness, as we have always kept Tartus as a supply point of our naval forces in the Mediterranean Sea, we are now adding the Hmeymim air base ", RIA Novosti quoted the deputy as saying. Komoedov added that Russia is ready to assist the Government of Syria in restoring the integrity of its state.

Vladimir Putin just had a 'hurried' meeting with Security Council

Putin security chiefs navy
Russian reaction to rebel attack on Aleppo likely main topic of discussion.

The Kremlin has just issued a report of a meeting of Russia's Security Council.

The Security Council is Russia's key policy making body. Contrary to what its name might suggest its remit extends far beyond defence and security policy and covers every aspect of Russia's political and socio-economic relations as well as foreign and defence policy. In some ways the Security Council resembles the Soviet Politburo, the body which in its formal role as the Defence Council, the Security Council has institutionally replaced.

This latest meeting of the Security Council is unusual in that as is clear from the list of attendees and the accompanying photograph only a small number of officials attended. Moreover the meeting did not take place at one of the Security Council's standard locations: the Kremlin and the Presidential Residence at Novo Ogaryovo. The Kremlin report merely says that it took place in "the Moscow region". That suggests a meeting convened hurriedly at a secret location.
