Syrian Army captures key districts in successful Aleppo offensive

Syrian army Aleppo
© Kurdish Daily News
The Syrian army, supported by Russian air forces, is continuing to besiege militants in Aleppo. Footage has been published of terrorists fleeing strikes by the Syrian army and Russian aircraft.

The political department of the Syrian Arab Army has published a video taken earlier in the 1070 apartment complex in the Al-Hamdaniya district in southwestern Aleppo. The video captures footage of terrorists retreating from the residential area under blows by the Syrian army. In the video, Jaish al-Fatah militants flee the building for the neighboring Hiqma school, where they have since been holding their last line of defense.

To recall: After clearing out the 1070 complex, the Syrian Arab Army continued its offensive and liberated large districts in southwestern Aleppo. SAA troops have finally beaten back the remaining Islamists from the Hikma district, forcing them to flee to the south to the Rashiddin-5 neighborhood. Government forces are continuing their offensive in western Aleppo, assaulting the positions of terrorist gangs in the districts of Dahiat-al-Assad and Minyan, where bloody battles have been ongoing for several days.

U.S. finally decides to fight al-Qaeda: Did Trump induce his first major policy change in Syria?

Aleppo moderate rebels wave al nusra al qaeda flags
The people loyal to the Syrian government are happy with Donald Trump winning the U.S. election:
At the passport counter, a Syrian officer's face lit up when he saw an American traveler. "Congratulations on your new president!" he exclaimed, giving an energetic thumbs up. Mr. Trump, he said, would be "good for Syria."
The first significant step of the new administration comes while Trump is not even in office. Obama, selfishly concerned with his historic legacy, suddenly makes a 180 degree turn and starts to implement Trump polices. Lets consider the initial position:
Asked about Aleppo in an October debate with Clinton, Trump said it was a humanitarian disaster but the city had "basically" fallen. Clinton, he said, was talking in favor of rebels without knowing who they were. The rebels fighting Assad in western Syria include nationalists fighting under the Free Syrian Army banner, some of them trained in a CIA-backed program, and jihadists such as the group formerly known as the al Qaeda-linked Nusra Front.
The Obama administration, through the CIA led by Saudi asset John Brennan, fed weapons, training and billions of dollars to "moderate rebels". These then turned around (vid) and either gave the CIA gifts to al-Qaeda in Syria (aka Jabhat al Nusra) or joined it themselves. The scheme was no secret at all and Russia as well as Syria pointed this out several times. The Russian foreign Minister Lavrov negotiated with the U.S. secretary of State Kerry who promised to separate the "moderate rebels" from al-Qaeda. But Kerry never delivered. Instead he falsely accuse Russia of committing atrocities that never happened. The CIA kept the upper hand within the Obama administration and continued its nefarious plans.

That changed the day the president-elect Trump set foot into the White House. While Obama met Trump in the oval office, new policies, prepared beforehand, were launched. The policies were held back until after the election and would likely not have been revealed or implemented if Clinton had won.

Comment: It's arguable that Obama and Kerry were sincere in their negotiations with Russia over Syria. But Carter sabotaged Obama's directive with the attack on the Syrian Army at Deir ez-Zor. If so, the analysis above makes sense. Obama has wanted to actually fight terrorism in Syria, but faced too much insubordination. Now, the war hawks in the Pentagon are facing a dilemma: either get serious about fighting al-Qaeda, or lose your job. Question is: will the military and CIA continue their insubordination when Trump takes office?

Trump wild card: NATO obsesses worst-case scenario - US pulls troops out of Europe

NATO strategists are reportedly planning for a scenario in which Trump orders US troops out of Europe, as the shock result of the US presidential election sinks in, spreading an atmosphere of uncertainty. According to Spiegel magazine, strategists from NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg's staff have drafted a secret report which includes a worst-case scenario in which Trump orders US troops to withdraw from Europe and fulfills his threat to make Washington less involved in European security.

"For the first time, the US exit from NATO has become a threat" which would mean the end of the bloc, a German NATO officer told the magazine.

During his campaign, Trump repeatedly slammed NATO, calling the alliance "obsolete." He also suggested that under his administration, the US may refuse to come to the aid of NATO allies unless they "pay their bills" and "fulfill their obligations to us." "We are experiencing a moment of the highest and yet unprecedented uncertainty in the transatlantic relationship," said Wolfgang Ischinger, former German ambassador in Washington and head of the prominent Munich Security Conference.

By criticizing the collective defense, Trump has questioned the basic pillar of NATO as a whole, Ischinger added. The president-elect therefore has to reassure the European allies that he remains firm on the US commitment under Article 5 of the NATO charter prior to his inauguration, the top diplomat stressed.

Comment: So say the NATO relics.

Comment: For Trump and the USA, shaking the rails of NATO serves to 'wake it up' and challenges it to re-evaluate its course into the future. Europe, fending for itself with its own military complement, will surely postpone any disaster-fantasy of war with Russia for decades to come.

A view of the Syrian War, vantage Golan Heights, exposes Israeli army link to Jabhat al-Nusra

© Ronen Zvulun/ReutersIsraeli soldiers and tanks in the Golan Heights near Israel's border with Syria.
From Colonel Saleh's forward position on his front line north of Quneitra, he has a unique and exclusive view of the Syrian war. To his west and south is a vast area of his country which is occupied by Jabhat al-Nusra Islamist fighters - their earthen ramparts and supply roads are scarcely half a mile away. Then, another couple of miles away, Israeli soldiers are inside their concrete positions on the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, above the old and Nusra-held Syrian city of Quneitra.

"You see that mosque over there, just to the right of the water tower?" the colonel asks. "Well, Nusra is there. And you see the triangular hill beyond? The Israelis are there." It's what you call a politically intriguing battlefield - yes, shells do come whizzing in towards the Syrians from Nusra and also from the Israelis. The Syrians concentrate their fire on Nusra but Nusra's casualties are often taken through the Israeli lines for hospital treatment in Haifa.

So whose side is Israel on? Baath City is a concrete conurbation created back in pre-civil war days to defy the vandalisation of the old Quenitra. It was occupied by the Israeli army during the 1973 Middle East war and then - before they abandoned it under the Kissinger agreement - totally destroyed with explosives by Israeli troops. Nusra now occupy these 43-year old ruins. As for Baath City, its university, banks, fire station, schools, police force and hospitals are defiantly maintained by the Syrians under the eyes of their two enemies: the Nusra Islamists and the Israelis.

According to the Syrian army in Baath City - their forward lines and tanks are positioned in unfinished apartment blocks on the edge of the town - their intelligence department's Hebrew speakers constantly monitor conversations between the Israelis and between Israeli and Nusra fighters. They know - and the Israelis have made no secret of the fact - that wounded Nusrah fighters are taken to Haifa for hospital treatment. On one occasion, a Nusrah man travelling in an Israeli ambulance on the Golan was dragged from the vehicle and lynched by a crowd of enraged Druze men who are largely loyal to the Syrian government and regard Nusrah as their mortal enemies. Reports of the man's murder highlighted the highly ambiguous relationship between Israel and the Islamists, whose name-changing cannot conceal their al-Qaeda roots.

Comment: It is no secret Israel has a manipulative and deadly hand in this conflict. It sees the current Syrian war as a means to legitimize the stolen Syrian territory of Golan Heights it occupied in the 6-Day War and grab oil resources to boot. No matter the cause or issues, Israel sides with whomever is able to provide an advantage and facilitate its coveted prize. Israel uses and abuses every faction, nation and government, without conscience, defying obedience to international law for its own gain.

Obama gives up on passing TPP before Trump takes office

Trump Obama
© Kevin Lamarque / ReutersPresident Obama and President-elect Trump discuss transition plans for the future.
The Obama administration has given up on trying to push through the controversial Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) deal in a lame-duck session as hopes for its last-minute approval, about which there was much speculation prior to the election, faded with Donald Trump's victory. "We have worked closely with Congress to resolve outstanding issues and are ready to move forward, but this is a legislative process and it's up to congressional leaders as to whether and when this moves forward," the spokesman for US Trade Representative Matt McAlvanah said Friday.

President Barack Obama reportedly hoped to have the deal approved by Congress before he turns over the White House to Trump. The post-election lame-duck session is set to start Monday, but it is unlikely that the 12-nation trade deal will be on the table.

On Wednesday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell indicated that the TPP would not be considered in the lame-duck session or any time before the new Congress and President-elect Donald Trump are sworn in. "I think the president-elect made it pretty clear he was not in favor of the current agreement," McConnell said, implying that Trump would scrap the deal and would "negotiate a better one".

Trump opposed the TPP throughout his campaign, prompting other Republicans to follow suit. He indicated his plan, in which there was no place for TPP, would include renegotiating the 22-year-old North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and much tougher trade stance with China.

Comment: There has been a lot of controversy on the TPP deal -- known as "the most progressive trade deal in history". Big 'deals' like these crimp future negotiations and stifle spontaneous fluidity. With more governments and economies involved, TPP creates less maneuverability for any single nation to readjust its position, should circumstances demand, while favoring multinational corporations over national sovereignty and common workers. Seven years in the 'not making' of TPP involved 11 Pac Rim countries. Repudiation of the deal has run rampant and the 'fix-it' list is daunting. For Obama, it was the means to tie as many countries to the US as trade partners at the expense of the American worker, US court system and laws, environmental protections and public safety.

Mike Pence to lead Trump's transition team, replacing Chris Christie

President-elect Trump began announcing leaders of his transition team. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, whom many thought would have a lead in the new administration, has been replaced by Trump's running mate and VP-elect Mike Pence.

The news, first reported by the New York Times, was confirmed by the statement from Governor Chris Christie.

Details are still emerging about who will be on the team, according to NBC reporters.

Among the transition team executive committee are Republican National Committee chairman Reince Preibus who Trump called out for special thanks during his victory speech on Tuesday when he won the election.

Comment: A person's sexuality should be their own business, but we have to point out: Peter Thiel is gay. However, rather than wonder if perhaps Trump is not as anti-LGBT as people think he is, anti-Trump activists are taking a different route: Thiel may be attracted to men, but he is "not a gay man" by virtue of the fact that he supports Trump. Wrap your head around that one.

Trump waves the flag for gay equality

The Republican nominee seeks to represent and serve ALL Americans

Republican Presidential nominee Donald J. Trump made history Sunday and the political media barely noticed. Or maybe they did see it - but since it didn't fit the narrative of what a Republican is supposed to look like they decided to ignore it.

On Sunday, at a rally in Colorado, Mr. Trump proudly held up a rainbow flag with the words "LGBT for Trump" written on it to a cheering crowd of thousands. It was an historic moment for gay equality and the Party of Lincoln as the 2016 GOP nominee for President of the United States held high the flag for gay equality. No other Republican Presidential nominee in history has embraced the LGBT community in such a loud and proud way.

And yet, the moment was barely reported by the media despite the fact it happened in front of the traveling press corps accompanying Mr. Trump. Political reporters, not unsurprising, largely failed to write on the moment where a Republican challenged their negative media stereotype.

But the moment was nevertheless historic. Trump walked on stage in Greeley, Colorado to a large cheering crowd when he spotted a rainbow flag in the audience. As the music blasted through the speakers, Mr. Trump pointed to a supporter as if to ask if he could see his flag and then motioned for a campaign worker to help retrieve the LGBT symbol of equality from the attendee.

Within seconds, Mr. Trump was walking around the platform with the rainbow flag in his hands and moments later unfurled it in full display. You could see a huge smile on Mr. Trump's face as he walked to both sides of the stage to proudly hold up the rainbow flag announcing support from the gay and lesbian community.

Comment: The MSM was silent for three reasons: 1) no kudos to Trump period; 2) the LGBT community is a voting constituency and a presidential nominee's public acceptance would be a tremendous rallying cry to garner these votes...a scenario the MSM was hoping to deny Mr. Trump by not publicizing it; 3) MSM had marching orders from the Killary camp. Look how well all that worked out! We shall wait and see if Trump makes good on this impression and it is more than a campaign point. It is a start. A good start.

"An operation conducted on November 12 in Moscow and St. Petersburg resulted in the arrests of 10 terrorists. They had a total of four powerful IEDs in their arsenals, which were seized," the FSB said in a statement.

The suspects of Central Asian origin were arrested in collaboration with law enforcement in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, the report said.

"The suspects confessed to having contacts with leaders of the terrorist group Islamic State based in the Middle East."

"They also identified targets of their attack, accomplices and a support base both in Russia and in other countries," the report added.

Some of the individuals listed in an organizational chart of Trump's top transition personnel, obtained by The Associated Press:

DEFENSE AND NATIONAL SECURITY

Retired Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg has been working closely with Trump adviser and retired Army Lt. Gen.
