A meeting between the Russian and Turkish presidents, Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is being prepared but will take place not earlier than 2017, Russian president's press secretary Dmitry Peskov said on Monday.

"Such a meeting is being prepared," he told TASS. "There is understanding that it may take place very soon."

However he answered in the negative when asked whether the two leaders may meet before the year ends.

"The volume of our bilateral relations is impressive and we have a lot to restore," he said. "There are expansion plans in many areas. Now, the intergovernmental commission is working on to uplift these plans to the interstate level, to the level of the two countries' presidents.".

Comment: They should have plenty to talk about, especially since Turkey has decided to violate Syria's sovereignty by sending troops in to Syria in order to "end the rule" of Assad." Putin will most likely not be pleased with Turkey's actions against a key ally of Russia in the Middle East.

'Beacon for despots everywhere': Britain's fascist surveillance bill becomes law

Britain's intelligence services have officially been given the most wide-ranging and privacy-invading mass surveillance powers in the world, according to critics, after the Investigatory Powers Act became law on Tuesday.

The legislation, dubbed the 'snooper's charter,' authorizes the government to hack into devices, networks and services in bulk, and allows for large databases of personal information on UK citizens to be maintained.

It requires internet, phone and communication app companies to store customers' records for 12 months and allow authorities to access them on demand.

That data could be anything from internet search history, calls made or messages sent, and will be available to a wide range of agencies, including the Department for Work and Pensions as well as the Food Standards Agency.

Security agencies will also be able to force companies to decrypt data, effectively placing limits on the use of end-to-end encryption.

Trump confers with ex-bank CEO who advises abolishing Fed, return gold standard

As President-elect's Donald Trump's transition rolls on, more and more attention is being paid to possible selections for a variety of high-ranking positions and meetings that might help decide these appointments.

On Monday, Trump will meet with John Allison, the former CEO of the bank BB&T and of the libertarian think tank the Cato Institute.

There have been reports that Allison is being considered for Treasury secretary.

Trump's has on the campaign trail questioned the future of the Federal Reserve's political independence, but Allison takes that rhetoric a step further. While running the the Cato Institute, Allison wrote a paper in support of abolishing the Fed.

"I would get rid of the Federal Reserve because the volatility in the economy is primarily caused by the Fed," Allison wrote in 2014 for the Cato Journal, a publication of the institute.

Allison said that simply allowing the market to regulate itself would be preferable to the Fed harming the stability of the financial system.

"When the Fed is radically changing the money supply, distorting interest rates, and over-regulating the financial sector, it makes rational economic calculation difficult," Allison wrote. "Markets do form bubbles, but the Fed makes them worse."

Comment: It will be a gargantuan uphill battle should Trump adopt these ideas. The Fed and fiat currency are the foundation of the elite's ability to economically bleed the populace dry. They will fight tooth-and-nail to keep the current system in place.

Even Democrats consider Stein's recount effort a 'waste of time and money'

Stein recount Clinton
Democrats are unenthusiastic about the recount effort being mounted by Jill Stein of the Green Party, seeing it as a futile effort that serves only to distract opponents of President-elect Donald Trump's policy and personnel decisions.

Some Democrats even come close to echoing Trump's charge that re-tallying votes from the presidential race is just a "scam" being advanced by Stein, who has raised more than $6 million to fund potential recounts in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania, three states critical to the Republican nominee's win.

"It's a waste of time and money. It is not going to change anything," said Democratic strategist Joe Trippi, who served as campaign manager for former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean's 2004 presidential campaign.

"I think it probably was the Stein people looking for a way to stay relevant, raise some money and take the stink off of them. Instead of everybody screaming, 'You made Trump happen,' she is counting the votes to change that whole narrative."

Stein has pushed back vigorously against such criticism. She acknowledges that the recounts are unlikely to change the election's outcome, even if they proceed in all three states, which is far from guaranteed. But she says it is a worthwhile exercise aimed at ensuring elections are conducted fairly.

RT has published a summary of the SK statement and the interviews of the attorneys and legal experts involved in this investigation.

The Investigative Committee has established that from September to November 2016, the Ukrainian military and employees of the National guard carried out a "targeted shelling with heavy weapons of the civilian infrastructures" (part 1 of article 356 of the Russia criminal code). The victims of the attack were two men and more than 20 were injured. Ukrainian shells damaged and destroyed more than 100 homes and residential buildings.

Syrian delegation to Ireland will highlight role of EU sanctions in killing women and children

It is rare that the opportunity arises in the West to listen to a true account of the conflict directly from Syrian voices, which is why an upcoming event in Ireland carries extra special significance.

In early December, secular and religious voices will gather in Dublin with the objective of highlighting the inordinate suffering of the Syrian people as a consequence of the unremitting chaos and conflict that has had the country in its grip for nearly six years, responsible for a horrific loss of innocent human life, the displacement of half the population, and a threat to the existence of minority communities that are able to trace their presence in the country back over a millennia and more.

The dignitaries arriving as part of the Syrian delegation include Muslim and Christian clerics, such as His Beatitude Gregory III Laham, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, the spiritual leader of the world's Melkite Greek Catholic Chruch; His Holiness Ignatius Aphrem II of Antioch, world's spiritual leader of the Syriac Orthodox Church; and they include His Grace Dr Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun, Grand Mufti of Syria.

Comment: Will Ireland stand with humanity?

What is Trump trying to divert attention from?

Donald Trump

Another Trump tweet, another fake scandal:

That burning flag stuff is not so exciting. The oh, so liberal Hillary Clinton tried to punish flag burning too. In 2005, as Senator from New York, she introduced the Flag Protection Act of 2005 to achieve that:
It called for a punishment of one year in jail and a fine of $100,000.
The act was not taken up by Congress. During her recent campaign Clinton strongly condemned the burning of an Israeli flag.

In 2006 a vote for a constitutional amendment to punish flag burning failed in the Senate. The Supreme Court had ruled in 1989 that the burning of the U.S. flag, or any other flag, is free speech covered by the first amendment. It is settled law and there is little to no chance that it will change. The issue is a political gimmick that is used every once a while to set up certain conservative groups against certain free speech defenders.

As such it is a diversion.

France elections: Welcome to the Fillon-Le Pen cage match

Francois Fillon and Marine Le Pen
© Reuters
He came (from behind); he saw; he won. Francois Fillon will be the candidate of the French Right in the 2017 presidential elections, and he stands a very good chance of winning, in the second round, against Front National (FN) leader Marine Le Pen.

Fillon is an ultra-traditionalist, family values, "Christian roots of France" kind of guy. In American terms, he would be a "French nationalist" - without the derogatory subtexts. His mantra revolves around the historic strength of French national identity (from Jeanne D'Arc to Voltaire), the basis of national sovereignty, which should be re-emphasized again and again.

Add to the agenda a very hard tack on immigration and on a vague, indistinct "Islam" that's not conceptualized, as stressing the stark difference between Islam as a religion of peace and Salafi-jihadism as an offshoot of Wahhabism. The French establishment simply cannot afford to antagonize influential client-states/investors such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The most specific Fillon gets is that "the Islamic religion accept what all the others have accepted in the past... that radicalism and provocation have no place here."

Erdogan: Turkish forces are in Syria to end tyrant Assad's reign

Erdogan

Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that the Turkish Army has entered Syria to end the rule of Syrian President Bashar Assad, whom he accused of terrorism and causing the deaths of thousands of Syrians. "We entered [Syria] to end the rule of the tyrant al-Assad who terrorizes with state terror. [We didn't enter] for any other reason," the Turkish president said at the first Inter-Parliamentary Jerusalem Platform Symposium in Istanbul, as quoted by Hurriyet daily.

Erdogan said that Turkey has no territorial claims in Syria, but instead wants to hand over power to the Syrian population, adding that Ankara is seeking to restore "justice." "Why did we enter? We do not have an eye on Syrian soil. The issue is to provide lands to their real owners. That is to say we are there for the establishment of justice," he said.

Comment: Erdogan's Euphrates Shield operation is illegal. Syrian fighter jets already launched the third airstrike on the Turkish Army positions three days ago.

Iranian authorities could allow Russia to use the Hamadan air base in western Iran for Moscow's aerial operation against terrorist in Syria if the situation in the crisis-torn Middle Eastern nation demanded it, Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan said Saturday.

"If the situation and conditions [in Syria] demand to provide the support, we will do this job," Dehghan said, as quoted by the Tasnim news agency.

Russia May Use Iran's Hamadan Base if Admiral Kuznetsov Moves Away From Syria
Russia could use Iran's Hamadan airbase in case the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier used for anti-terror strikes in Syria moves away from the Syrian borders for a new mission, the Russian upper house of parliament's defense committee chair said Saturday.

Earlier in the day, Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan said that Tehran could allow Russia to use Hamadan for Moscow's aerial operation against terrorists in Syria.

"The necessity to use the airfield of the airbase in Hamadan could emerge if Admiral Kuznetsov carries out another operation and [Russia] will not be able to use it for airstrikes against terrorists in Syria," Viktor Ozerov told RIA Novosti.
Update: Iran Ready to Allow Russian Jets to Use Hamadan Base for 'Takeoff and Refueling'
Last week, Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan said that Tehran could allow Russia's use of the Noje Airbase in Hamadan for the aerial campaign against terrorists in Syria if the situation demanded it.

In an interview with Sputnik Persian, Hossein Sheikholeslam, an adviser to the Iranian foreign minister, commented on the possible option for the Russian Aerospace Forces at the Hamadan airfield.

"I'd like to emphasize that Iran never gave to Russia full control over the Noje base in Hamadan. This airbase belongs to Iran and all activities at the base are controlled by Tehran," Sheikholeslam said.

According to Sheikholeslam, all operations by Russian aviation in Hamadan were controlled by Tehran.

"Tehran never gave full control over the airfield to any foreign country. This would contradict the country's constitution," the adviser added.
