Dozens of United States Special Operations forces are now in the Baltics to counter a fake threat from Russia - what could go wrong?

The Lithuanian government has confirmed the presence of US special forces in the country.

According to the Lithuanian Defence Ministry spokeswoman, Asta Galdikaite, the dozens of US forces training Lithuanian special forces would remain there as long as they see Russia as a 'threat' or however long they see fit.

Top Turkish officials have questioned the use of Incirlik Air Base by the US-led coalition, citing a "confidence crisis" with Washington and inadequate support for Turkey's ground forces in Syria.

The US-led coalition does little to provide aerial support to Turkish troops deployed in Syria as part of the Operation Euphrates Shield, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu told state-run Anadolu news agency on Wednesday.

"Our people ask, 'why are they using the Incirlik Airbase. We allowed not only the US but also other countries' jets to use Incirlik to jointly fight [Islamic State]," he said.

"What purpose are you serving if you do not provide aerial support against Daesh [Islamic State] in the most sensitive operation for us?" he added.

Comment: As a global 'hot spot', terrorism is on the uptick in Turkey, now spreading to other locales besides Istanbul. Regardless of whom Turkey ultimately gets into bed with, be it US/NATO or Russia/Iran, it is still positioned in the middle of the titans. Stuff is going to happen at Turkey's expense.

The Russian Defence Ministry have openly questioned why the US has not bombed ISIS controlled oil facilities. Donald Trump had questioned this for months, promising to change this policy.

For someone constantly portrayed as unintelligent by the mainstream media, Donald Trump has got many predictions correct.

China slams Trump's 'Twitter foreign policy' as 'undesirable obsession'

Chinese state media has recommended that US President-elect Donald Trump rethink angry, late night tweets, following his repeated antagonizing of China via Twitter.

Trump's use of Twitter is one of the many unique things the president-elect will bring to the White House after his inauguration on 20 January. Unfortunately, 140 characters does not lend itself well to diplomacy with China. On Tuesday, Chinese state media news agency Xinhua, issued an official commentary on Trump's tweets, saying, "An obsession with 'Twitter foreign policy' is undesirable."

The article also made some pointed jabs at Trump. "Everyone recognizes the common sense that foreign policy isn't child's play, and even less is it like doing business deals," it read. The commentary came two days after Trump tweeted, "China has been taking out massive amounts of money & wealth from the U.S. in totally one-sided trade, but won't help with North Korea. Nice!"

Trump's use of Twitter has been the subject of scrutiny in the past, but his press secretary told reporters that Trump does not seem to plan on deleting his account any time soon. "When he tweets, he gets results," Sean Spicer told ABC News.

Comment: For some, diplomacy is a learned thing.

A B-52 Stratofortress bomber lost one of its eight engines while conducting a training flight off Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota.

"Earlier today, a B-52 dropped an engine while in flight," a US Air Force spokesperson told Military.com in an email on Wednesday. "The aircraft landed safely with no injuries."

The engine broke up and debris landed in an unpopulated area, the report said. No immediate information of injuries or damage on the ground was available.

Comment: The US military has been experiencing a spate of mishaps with its planes and warships - despite the enormous sums spent on the US war machine, the military apparatus is unraveling.

Beijing: Carrier group performs 'scientific research, weapons tests'

Liaoning

China has confirmed that its navy, headed by the aircraft carrier Liaoning, is conducting exercises in the South China Sea to test weapons and equipment, as well as carrying out "scientific research." "The Liaoning aircraft carrier group in the South China Sea is carrying out scientific research and training, in accordance with plans," Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said. "The purpose is to test the performance of weapons and equipment," he added without elaborating further.

On Monday, the navy announced that the aircraft carrier conducted drills in the South China Sea with its fighters and helicopters late last month. Specifically, the Chinese Navy said that Liaoning's J-15 fighter jets conducted flight exercises in what it called "complex sea conditions".

While Beijing described the drills as a routine exercise, the secrecy behind Chinese maneuvers near the disputed waters of the South China Sea has made Beijing's neighbors anxious. Shortly before the New Year, Taipei said that the Liaoning alongside five warships sailed around 90 nautical miles south of Taiwan before docking at China's Hainan base. Taiwan's defense minister, Feng Shih-kuan, warned at the time that "the threat of our enemies is growing day by day."

China had earlier reportedly carried out its first live-fire drills using the aircraft carrier near the Korean Peninsula. The Chinese fleet has also been spotted passing through the Japanese islands of Okinawa and Miyako, prompting Tokyo to scramble ships and a P3C patrol aircraft to escort the Chinese armada.

Comment: Freedom of navigation or threats and intimidation...the excursions happen and the overlap of purpose works to either advantage from either perspective. The Chinese outlined their push points and put the US on notice.

Rohrabacher to visit Russia, first congressional delegation trip post Trump inaugural

Rohrabacher
© The Daily CallerSanity. A new approach.
US sanctions and other pressures revving up a second Cold War will be the focus of a congressional trip to Russia after President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration, Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-California) has announced.

Rohrabacher, head of the House Foreign Affairs subcommittee Europe, Eurasia, and Emerging Threats, told the Washington Post on Wednesday that his subcommittee would take an "official trip" to meet with their Russian counterparts from the Duma "within a month of the inaugural." Rohrabacher's congressional office did not dispute the Post's reporting, but it did say the trip is not yet confirmed. His subcommittee's travel plans would first have to be approved by Rep. Ed Royce (R-California), the chairman of the House committee on Foreign Affairs, who takes a hardline approach against Russia.

Rohrabacher, a former speechwriter to President Ronald Reagan before being elected to Congress in 1988, is referred to as "a longtime enthusiast" of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Post article. The 69-year-old Orange County, California native has recently written op-eds and appeared on television making the case that US and Russia ought to work together to "eradicate the Islamic State."

When asked if Putin would meet with his delegation, Rohrabacher reportedly paused before answering with a half-smile, "I really can't say that" and "It's possible." "We'll see who can come," Rohrabacher said. "I'll bring some people with me who seem antagonistic toward having better relations. We'll put them together, sit down with some people in Russia who can talk to them, person to person, and start to have a real dialogue instead of screaming epithets at each other."

Comment: Finally! Some real and level-headed diplomacy in the making! Perhaps the US can step back from the edge.
