Trump effect: ADP employment surges near most in 6 years on record goods-producing job gains

Following January's surge in employment (biggest gain in 7 months), February's ADP print exploded higher to 298k (5 sigma above all expectations). This is the third biggest monthly employment gain of the expansion. It appears the 'Trump Effect' is the biggest driver as the ADP payroll surge was mostly due to a record surge in employment for goods-producing industries.

Private sector employment surged by 298,000 for the month, with goods producers adding 106,000. Construction jobs swelled by 66,000 and manufacturing added 32,000.

French elections are turning the country into an amusement park

French presidential candidates
Watching the news last week in Paris is like watching a bad Brazilian soap opera.

Every single day brings new twists in the country's political affairs. The presidential campaign continues to reach new lows at every turn, while President François Hollande looks more and more like a sad clown who lost control of his ghost ship.

The latest, after telling Donald Trump that in France no one uses guns to shoot into crowds (oops - Bataclan, Charlie Hebdo, Nice ....), and inviting him to Euro Disney to better understand France (no it's not a joke), one of the snipers in charge of Hollande's security accidentally discharged his rifle in a crowd, wounding two by-standers.

On the political front, the campaign now looks more and more like a judicial battle between the candidates while the streets are taken up by angry immigrants and extreme left radicals.
Every single meeting of Marine Le Pen is now assaulted by so-called anti-fascist groups, who recently smashed buses carrying Front National's MPs. François Fillon's public appearances bring leftist militants who organize "concerts" with pots and pans.

Can America afford to get into a trade war with China?

Throughout the 2016 presidential election, Donald Trump blasted China for its protectionist trade policies, currency manipulation and a number of other accusations. Indeed, these accusations were not limited to Trump as China bashing is simply standard fare for anyone seeking elected office and on the campaign trail. Much of Trump's campaign was, however, met with derision. As the election process unfolded, the derision soon turned to snickers. As the election continued, the snickers turned downright somber while Trump sailed past his Republican opponents Jeb Bush, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio and others who had been deemed more likely to become the GOP nominee.

Among the intelligentsia, the mood has turned to alarm as now President Trump has set out to do exactly as he promised during his "America First" campaign. To show his sincerity to the campaign promise of bringing jobs back to the United States, he kicked off his first day in the Oval Office by issuing an Executive Order that cancelled American participation in the Trans-Pacific Partnership. The TPP was President Obama's signature trade deal. It created a free-trade zone with eleven other nations for approximately 40 percent of the world's economy. Trump also threatened to impose a 45 percent tariff on Chinese goods if China does not "behave" accordingly.

WikiLeaks: CIA can hack cars to carry out "undetectable assassinations" - was Michael Hastings one?

Michael Hastings
Award-winning journalist Michael Hastings garnered international acclaim for coverage of the Iraq War and had established a comfortable career with BuzzFeed, GQ, and Rolling Stone when his life abruptly ended in a fiery one-car crash under such suspicious circumstances, a prominent national security official claimed it was "consistent with a car cyber attack."

"There is reason to believe that intelligence agencies for major powers," including the United States, have developed the technology to remotely seize control of a vehicle, former U.S. National Coordinator for Security, Infrastructure Protection, and Counter-terrorism Richard A. Clarke told Huffington Post shortly after Hastings' death in June 2013.

"What has been revealed as a result of some research at universities is that it's relatively easy to hack your way into the control system of a car, and to do such things as cause acceleration when the driver doesn't want acceleration, to throw on the brakes when the driver doesn't want the brakes on, to launch an air bag," Clarke continued.

TSA's new groping process so invasive they're telling police to prepare for complaints

TSA Groping

Something ominous is taking place at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) right now, having to do with a more aggressive version of the already invasive pat-down method. The TSA is so certain their new groping method will offend that they have taken action to warn police ahead of time that they will undoubtedly be receiving complaints.

The TSA — one of America's most corrupt and incompetent agencies whose ostensible job is fighting terrorism — is apparently so unsatisfied with the mere ability to strip search babies, remove colostomy bags, beat up blind cancer patients, and fondle your genitalia, that they announced a more invasive physical pat-down this week.

Taking note of their increased ability to grope anyone who wishes to fly on an airplane, the agency expects passengers to consider the examination unusual.

US Senator Mark Warner accuses RT of hacking Google, RT suggests he should learn how search engines work

Russian media has tampered with Google algorithms, tuning them to promote stories published by RT and other Russian media, a top-ranking US official said. RT's editor in chief instead suggests he should learn how search engines work before making such accusations.

"We saw manipulation of certain algorithms, so that if you Googled certain items, you got Russia news, [RT] News, other false news. We saw the selective hacking into DNC and individuals that then tried to leak that information to benefit Mr. Trump," Virginia Senator and top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee Mark Warner told CBS's "Face the Nation" on Sunday.

Warner's claim quickly sparked a response from RT's editor-in-chief.

"Somebody please tell the US Senator how internet search engines work. Or I'll haunt his dreams in the guise of a bear - this could give him a heart attack!" Margarita Simonyan saidon Tuesday.

Lords defeat government again, backing second Brexit bill amendment

The House of Lords has backed a Brexit bill amendment requiring parliament to approve any exit deal that Britain makes with the EU, putting the government under further pressure to meet an end-of-March deadline to trigger Article 50.

The vote was passed Tuesday evening by 366 votes to 268. Peers voted on an amendment to the Brexit bill over whether MPs should get a "meaningful vote" on the final outcome of negotiations with the EU.

The amendment tabled in the House of Lords by Labour, and backed by leading crossbench peers, demands that Parliament must approve the result before May can conclude any deal on leaving the EU or establishing a new relationship with the bloc.

Donald Trump unveils new 'travel ban' Executive Order, clarifies intentions and dispels claims of religious discrimination

Trump Travel ban
President Trump signs new 'travel ban' Executive Order taking into account previous criticisms by the courts.

As the Trump administration had previously indicated that the President would do, Donald Trump today has issued a new 'travel ban' Executive Order replacing his previous 'travel ban' Executive Order, which has been the subject of legal proceedings.

The complete text of the new Executive Order is provided below.

The new Executive Order is a much lengthier document than its predecessor as it carefully responds to concerns raised by the previous Order's critics and by the courts.

By way of example Section 1(b)(iv) makes clear that neither the previous Executive Order nor the new Executive Order are intended to discriminate against persons on religious grounds. The new Executive Order provides a detailed description of the situation in each country affected to justify placing restrictions on entry from that country (Section 1(3)). It also goes into far more detail about the procedures to be used in granting waivers (Section 3(c)). Lastly, it goes out of its way to make clear that the intention is not to deprive those with legal rights to enter and stay in the US of those rights (Section 3(a)).
