It's another NYT dangerous rush to judgement in Syria

Lies in news
© The Right AngleNews is not just about what is printed, it is also about what is cut out.
With the latest hasty judgment about Tuesday's poison-gas deaths in a rebel-held area of northern Syria, the mainstream U.S. news media once more reveals itself to be a threat to responsible journalism and to the future of humanity. Again, we see the troubling pattern of verdict first, investigation later, even when that behavior can lead to a dangerous war escalation and many more deaths.

Before a careful evaluation of the evidence about Tuesday's tragedy was possible, The New York Times and other major U.S. news outlets had pinned the blame for the scores of dead on the Syrian government of Bashar al-Assad. That revived demands that the U.S. and other nations establish a "no-fly zone" over Syria, which would amount to launching another "regime change" war and would put America into a likely hot war with nuclear-armed Russia.

Even as basic facts were still being assembled about Tuesday's incident, we, the public, were prepped to disbelieve the Syrian government's response that the poison gas may have come from rebel stockpiles that could have been released either accidentally or intentionally causing the civilian deaths in a town in Idlib Province.

Comment: Since this article was written, the bombing raid at Shayrat airbase took place, an action hailed by those with a mission to change the president's purview from peace to war. The responsibility of accurate and unbiased news reporting becomes crucial at these junctures. It is a travesty to stray even one step off these straight and narrow principles to report half facts and offer faulty conclusions to bolster a particular point of view or agenda. What was it really? False flag by terrorists, CIA, Israel, Turkey, other? Who benefits? That is where investigative reporting would have done great and honorable service.

Putin and Iranian President Rouhani strengthen united front on Syria

Both leaders pledged their commitment to aid Syria in the fight against terrorism and to work together to stabilize the volatile region.
Fake news reports on Russia and Iran preparing to retaliate against the illegal US missile attack on Syria are filling the web, but this could not be further from reality.

In a telephone call between Presidents Hassan Rouhani and Vladimir Putin, Russia and Iran have pledged to remain committed to aiding Syria in the fight against terrorism.

Comment: More from Fort Russ:
The two also agreed that the US strike on Syria was a "pre-planned attack on an independent and sovereign state, aimed at slowing down the victories of the Syrian Army and its allies, while only raising the morale of the terrorists and their supporters," adding that "the US narrative on Khan Sheikhoun incident is extremely doubtful and that the Syrian proposal to establish an independent commission that will investigate the incident, can only reveal the ugly reality of manipulations and distortions".
From The Duran:
"President Bashar al-Assad on Sunday received a phone call from Iranian President Hassan Rouhani who expressed strong condemnation of the outrageous US aggression on the Syrian territories. President Rouhani said that this aggression constitutes a blatant violation of the Syrian sovereignty and all the international laws and conventions.

The Iranian President stressed that Iran stands by the Syrian state in its war against terrorism and in the initiatives it proposes to find a peaceful solution to the crisis in Syria that would lead to stopping the bloodshed of the Syrians. For his part, President al-Assad affirmed that the US failed in achieving the goal behind this attack which is raising the morale of the US-backed terrorist gangs.

He affirmed that the Syrian people and army are determined to eliminate terrorism in every part of the Syrian territories. President al-Assad thanked the Iranian leadership and people for their continued standing by the Syrian people in the face of the terrorist war which is backed by many Western and regional states".
From Sputnik:
The two leaders also expressed readiness to deepen cooperation in the fight against terrorism to ensure stability in the Middle East.

"Particular importance was paid to the key aspects of the bilateral cooperation in the sphere of counterterrorism, a readiness to deepen cooperation in order to ensure stability in the Middle East was expressed," the statement said.

Trump letter to Congress on Syrian strike: US will take additional action to further national interests

US President Donald Trump has sent a letter to the US Congress, informing them about the US missile strike against the Syrian Air Force base, and stating that the US will take additional action to further the country's national interests, the White House said Saturday.

In a letter to the US Congress on Saturday, President Donald Trump explained his decision to launch an attack on the Shayrat Airbase in Syria, claiming he was acting to avert a "humanitarian catastrophe."
"United States intelligence indicates that Syrian military forces operating from this airfield were responsible for the chemical weapons attack on Syrian civilians in southern Idlib Province, Syria, that occurred on April 4," Trump wrote in the letter.

"I directed this action in order to degrade the Syrian military's ability to conduct further chemical weapons attacks and to dissuade the Syrian regime from using or proliferating chemical weapons, thereby promoting the stability of the region and averting a worsening of the region's current humanitarian catastrophe."

The letter, in which Trump claims to have acted "in the vital national security and foreign policy interests of the United States," repeats the same justification the president gave earlier this week, when speaking from his Mar-a-Lago resort.

The US strike came before the UN or the OPCW, the chemical weapons watchdog, could investigate the incident. Washington hurried to accuse the Syrian government for the suspected chemical attack.

Comment: Trump picked a fine time to trust his intelligence agencies; and just what was the vital national security issue that warranted this action?

Eyewitnesses report ISIS executing civilians fleeing Mosul

Islamic State militants have been killing scores of civilians attempting to flee the war-torn city of Mosul in Iraq, according to eyewitness reports, with as many as 50 people being put to death in the latest mass execution.

Fighting in western Mosul has been intensifying in recent weeks as Iraqi troops, backed by Shia and Kurdish militias as well as airstrikes from the US-led coalition, close in on the Old City, a stronghold of the Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL).

As it loses territory, IS has told the local population that the approaching forces will kill or imprison them in an attempt to deter people fleeing. But when this doesn't work, the militant group has turned to mass executions of would-be refugees. In the latest incident, 50 civilians were executed in western Mosul on Saturday, a local source told Alsumaria News.

McMaster manipulation: National Security Adviser wants 150,000 soldiers on the ground in Syria

McMaster and Trump
Current National Security Adviser Herbert Raymond "H. R." McMaster is manipulating intelligence reports given to President Donald Trump, Cernovich Media can now report. McMaster is plotting how to sell a massive ground war in Syria to President Trump with the help of disgraced former CIA director and convicted criminal David Petraeus, who mishandled classified information by sharing documents with his mistress.

As NSA, McMaster's job is to synthesize intellience reports from all other agencies. President Trump is being given an inaccurate picture of the situation in Syria, as McMaster is seeking to involve the U.S. in a full scale war in Syria.

The McMaster-Petraeus plan calls for 150,000 American ground troops in Syria.

Many special operations veterans including General Joseph Votel have raised serious concerns about McMaster's plans for Syria.

War is a racket: Trump owned stock in Raytheon, up $1Billion overnight

trump rocket stock chart
Each one of the 59 Tomahawk missiles fired by the US Navy, by order of Trump, at the Syrian air base in Homs cost somewhere between $800,000 and $1.4 million — per missile. This obviously expensive surge in US military spending subsequently sent the manufacturer's stock soaring. It also sent the Free Thought Project on an investigation into the types of stocks in which President Trump invests. What we found is shocking, but sadly, typical.

Tomahawk missiles are manufactured by a company, with whom most people are familiar, Raytheon.

Comment: Some details from The Duran:
On the 7th of April Raytheon stocks jumped 1.47%.

Meanwhile, US aerospace defence company Lockheed-Martin trading up .28%

UK defence contractor BAE systems increased its share price a whopping 1.5%

At the same time the price of Brent Crude hit its highest levels in a month.

Nouri al-Maliki, former prime minister of Iraq and currently a vice president of the country, criticized this week's US missile strike against Syrian forces in a statement on his Facebook page.

In the April 7 statement, he said the US "deals with" rulers in the Middle East only "by force."

He criticized the US for not waiting for a complete investigation of Tuesday's alleged chemical weapons attack by the Syrian government, the ostensible reason for the US response, and for not waiting for international consensus.

General McMaster corroborates Russian version of Syrian gas attack

National Security Adviser General H.R. McMaster
President Trump's National Security Adviser General H.R. McMaster contradicting British experts admits bombing chemical warfare storage facility can release sarin gas as Russians claim happened during Syrian air strike on Khan Sheikhoun.
Shortly after the alleged chemical weapons attack on Khan Sheikhoun in Syria the Russian Defence Ministry claimed that the release of chemical agents following the air strike happened because the Syrian air force struck a warehouse where the Jihadis were producing and storing stockpiles of chemical weapons.

This explanation was widely ridiculed, especially in Britain. A good summary is provided in this article on Counterpunch, with the comment by Bellingcat referred to in the article available here. I shall quote the relevant section from the first article in Counterpunch since it provides a good summary:
