US closure of Russian diplomatic properties could be act of property development piracy

Russia’s opulent former trade mission in Washington D.C.
Russia’s opulent former trade mission in Washington D.C.
The local implications to some of America's biggest property markets may be a key angle in understanding why the US has acted so aggressively.

While initial reports concealing the forced eviction of Russian diplomatic and consular offices from their property by the US State Department has generally been discussed in terms of geo-political implications, there is another angle which hitherto has been ignored. There is an increasing likelihood that part of the reason why the US kicked the Russian diplomats and their staff out of properties they have held for decades, is due to a desire of local and federal US actors to get their hands on properties that are worth millions on the open market.

The properties which were formerly occupied by Russian diplomatic and consular officials are objectively grand buildings in prime (aka expensive) locations in three of America's most expensive cities, New York, Washington D.C. and San Francisco.

FBI searched Russian diplomatic properties looking for explosives

Maria Zakharova
This new revelation adds insult to illegal injury.

Russia's Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has revealed a shocking revelation that as US authorities, including the FBI searched Russian diplomatic and consular compounds in contravention of the Vienna Conventions, they were on a mission that was utterly surreal.

Zakharova has stated that the FBI agents were searching the compounds for explosive devices, something more common in the hideout of terrorist groups than in the embassies and consular properties of large states.

During an interview on Rossiya One television, Zakharova described the incident in the following way:
"By the way, do you know, what they were looking for - as we were told before the searches? You would not believe it - they were looking for explosives."

Was North Korea's hydrogen bomb test a complete bluff?

kim jong un
North Korea completed its sixth, and what many experts believe, its most powerful nuclear test to date.

The Duran reported that North Korean media had declared a successful test of a hydrogen bomb, a few short hours after announcing that the country's military possess such a weapon which can be loaded atop the DPRK's existing missile systems.
North Korea hailed the test as "success" and "meaningful step" in completing a the most powerful kind of nuclear weapon, apparently all from domestically produced components. North Korea also stated that the test was safe and that no nuclear material had leaked into the environment during the underground detonation.

The US, South Korea and China all confirmed the presence of a 'man made earthquake' emanating from North Korean soil which was confirmed as measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale.

Comment: Did North Korea really test a hydrogen bomb or was it something else?

Putin hits back with BRICS, calls for genuinely free trade-based global system

Vladimir Putin
And he's got the BRICS on his side.
On the eve of the BRICS Summit in China's Xiamen in the Fujian Province, a defiant Putin hit back on the Western elite vowing to destroy the US-led Western global financial and trade hegemony.

Putin says it plain and clear in an article he penned ahead of the of summit that starts September 4th.

It is fitting that the master judoka Putin announced his Sun-Tzunian strategy in connection with the Chinese summit. A multitude of Sun Tzu quotes lend themselves to a description of Putin's approach, but in this connection, we have this one in mind:
"What is of supreme importance in war is to attack the enemy's strategy."

Flashback Afghan military commanders: 'Our fight against Taliban is nonsense - Every time we surround terrorists, support helicopters rescue and relocate them'

Comment: The following article is from 2009. Reports about some elements of the US military and other NATO forces transporting terrorists and weapons around Afghanistan are being published to this day. Most recently, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov highlighted Afghani reports that US military helicopters were seen airlifting weapons to areas controlled by ISIS...

Mazar-e-Sharif - Persistent accounts of Western forces in Afghanistan using their helicopters to ferry Taliban fighters, strongly denied by the military, is feeding mistrust of the forces that are supposed to be bringing order to the country.

One such tale came from a soldier from the 209th Shahin Corps of the Afghan National Army, fighting against the growing insurgency in Kunduz province in northern Afghanistan. Over several months, he had taken part in several pitched battles against the armed opposition.

"Just when the police and army managed to surround the Taliban in a village of Qala-e-Zaal district, we saw helicopters land with support teams," he said. "They managed to rescue their friends from our encirclement, and even to inflict defeat on the Afghan National Army."

Comment: What 'the war in Afghanistan' is really about is the US-led military and US-led defense contractors arming, training, and occasionally fighting 'the Taliban', 'ISIS' and 'insert-name-of-terror-group-here' in order to justify continued military presence in Afghanistan as a roadblock against Chinese and Russian economic expansion.

Washington neocons are about to run amok

McCain and Graham
In the past few days it became quite clear to me that Donald Trump made a deal with the Neocons in Washington. He traded part of his domestic agenda for ceding control of foreign policy to the D.C. establishment.

It's obvious when you connect the dots. Signing the sanctions bill, the non-shift in Afghanistan policy, the tit-for-tat diplomatic aggression with Russia, weapons to Ukraine, etc. I've written extensively about this. Graham is suddenly touting his Obamacare replacement bill.

But, taking Graham at his word what this means is that the whole repeal vote was nothing more than a set up, because in no way could they have put this together in the last few weeks.

Therefore, this was held back from Trump and the rest of Congress for the purpose of finalizing a number of foreign policy initiatives that Trump was hostile to, namely expanded sanctions on Russia and Iran and a troop surge in Afghanistan.

Attorney general likely to inform Sara Netanyahu of charges in a few weeks. Source tells Haaretz testimony by state's witness Ari Harow could change nature of the suspicions against Benjamin Netanyahu from fraud and breach of trust to acceptance of a bribe.

Sara Netanyahu is expected to be indicted, pending a hearing, on charges of fraudulently receiving items worth 400,000 shekels ($111,851), Haaretz has learned. Attorney General Avichai Mendelblit is expected to inform Netanyahu, wife of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, of the charges against her in a few weeks.

Sara Netanyahu is suspected of ordering chef's meals at the prime minister's official residence, which is against regulations, and concealing the fact that she did so. She and her husband have accused the former chief caretaker of the official residence, Meni Naftali, who is currently leading protests against the prime minister, of inflating the residence's expenses.

Iran and Saudi Arabia could teach the US an important lesson in international law about respecting diplomatic property

The map of Saudi Arabia and Iran
Iran and Saudi Arabia have non-exist ant relations but they still respect the Vienna Conventions.

Iran and Saudi Arabia are among the biggest adversaries in the world. With apparent competing regional and geo-strategic interests and diametrically opposed political ideologies and religious institutions, one could easily make the argument that Saudi and Iran have vastly more pronounced differences than North and South Korea who share a common historic culture and ethnicity.

But the primarily Sunni-Arab Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Shi'a Islamic Republic of Iran are set to have a diplomatic mission visit one another's capitals to inspect former embassy properties which have been vacant for two years following the formal severing of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
