Col. Gen. Sergei Karakayev, the Strategic Missile Forces' commander, said Wednesday in remarks carried by Russian news agencies that the nation's military planners have taken into account the emerging potential of NATO's U.S.-led missile defenses.
The Kremlin long has described the U.S. missile shield as a top threat to Russia, dismissing Washington's claim that it is intended to fend off an Iranian missile threat.
Karakayev said that while the existing U.S. missile defense isn't capable of deflecting a missile attack Russia is capable of launching, the American missile shield will become more advanced in the future.
He added that Russia already has taken steps that would "guarantee neutralizing" any prospective missile defense.
It seems clear that erecting and pointing sophisticated weapons all along a country's garden fence is more than a tad threatening.
Nuclear power plants aren't the assurance of power and security they were once lauded to be. After all, a nuclear power plant is a sitting target. This alone should be enough to make anyone living in the neighbourhood of such energy feel somewhat vulnerable, especially when any bombing raid can cause so much generational damage to such an obvious sitting duck.
Nuclear weapons fair little better. Any weapons silo housing such devices can just as easily become a target to be bombed from above, or bombed from below and what a mess that would create to the host country that has not considered such risks.
Given all the available options, it is clear why current leaders have chosen to do battle with alternative means; including money, mass hypnosis and general mud slinging.... Backed up by 'uber capable', technologically advanced weaponry and shield systems.
What happens next is the start of the peace process and the calculation of reparation bills.
