EU chief: There will be no renegotiating Iran deal, all parties fully compliant

Federica Mogherini

All parties to Iran's nuclear agreement remain in full compliance with the deal, EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said after the Wednesday P5+1 powers' meeting. She emphasized that the deal had potentially averted a military incursion into Iran.

"This is an agreement that prevented a nuclear program and potentially prevented a military intervention," Mogherini said, following a meeting of ministers representing the six world powers and Iran on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

Calling the negotiations a "frank" discussion, Mogherini said that it boiled down to all sides agreeing that no country has breached the terms of the deal.

Syria and Russia accuse U.S. proxy forces of attacks, abduction attempts, coordination with Al-Qaeda

Idlib al qaeda attacks
© Ibaa News Agency/Associated PressThis undated photo released Tuesday, Sept 19, 2017 by the al-Qaida-affiliated Ibaa News Agency, that is consistent with independent AP reporting, shows smoke rising over buildings that were hit by Syrian government forces bombardment, in Khan Sheikhoun, in the northern province of Idlib, Syria. A Syrian monitoring group says insurgents led by an al-Qaida-linked group have launched a wide offensive against pro-government troops south of their stronghold in the western province of Idlib. Arabic reads, "Criminal regime air force targets Khan Sheikhoun city with a number of raids"
The situation in Syria is reaching another critical point. There is an increased possibility of a large scale clash between U.S. and Russian forces. We had warned of such a clash over control of the rich fields east of Deir Ezzor. At least three incidents over the last days point to more significant escalations.
  • On the 17th the U.S. accused Russia of a light air attack on its proxy forces north of Deir Ezzor. Russia denied that it had attacked those forces.
  • On the 18th and 19th large contingents of Russian and Syrian troops crossed the Euphrates at Deir Ezzor in east-Syria. The U.S. Kurdish/Arab proxy force in the area actively tried to hinder that movement.
  • In parallel a large al-Qaeda attack was launched in west-Syria. The Russian forces accuse U.S. intelligence services of having initiated that campaign. (The Syrian-Russian forces defeated the attack.)
  • Today the Russian military accused the U.S. Kurdish proxies near Deir Ezzor of firing artillery on its forces. It threatened massive retaliation.
The most dramatic incident was the al-Qaeda attack in Idlib.

Comment: US proxy forces tried to capture 29 Russian troops in Syria... and instantly regretted it

"Peace is calling": South Korean President Moon endorses economic cooperation to foster peace, prosperity and trust

Moon Jae-in UN speech
Moon Jae-in’s call for peace and dialogue is a total contrast to Donald Trump’s threats to destroy North Korea, while mocking the DPRK.
President Moon Jae-in of South Korea has spoken before the General Assembly of the United Nations in an impassioned call for peace.

He began by stating that his country has only recently come to embrace democracy, but that it has done so peacefully.

The South Korean President made multiple references to the so-called "Candlelight Revolution" which transpired between 2016 and early 2017. The peaceful demonstrations against the corrupt and militant leadership of Park Geun-hye, helped bring about the impeachment of the former President which paved the way for Moon's election victory in May of this year.

When Moon previously ran for President in 2012, the South Korean intelligence services illegally meddled the election effectively rigging it in favour of Park. Several investigations into this are ongoing.

Comment: A welcome contrast to Trump's cringe-worthy rant: Trump's UN speech a descent into barbarism that makes virtue out of war and genocide

New emails show Hillary Clinton invited Vladimir Putin to Clinton Foundation Gala in 2009

Putin Hillary Clinton
For all her "Putin tried to destroy me" rhetoric, Hillary Clinton was eager to hang out with the Russian President during the Clinton Foundation good ol'days.

Emails recently obtained and released by conservative watchdog group, Judicial Watch show that Hillary Clinton invited Vladimir Putin to a Clinton Foundation Gala back in 2009.

Which makes all of Hillary's "Russia" whining complete bullshit...and a total acting job by the sore loser presidential candidate.

Here is the Judicial Watch PDF download of HRC gushing at a chance to have Vladimir Putin attend a Clinton Foundation Gala.

Russian rep says U.S. wants cooperation with Russia in Afghanistan - within "very narrow" limits set by sanctions

Washington says it want to cooperate with Moscow on Afghanistan, but US sanctions policy narrows down the areas of possible cooperation, unless those are lifted, Russia's special representative for Afghanistan said after meeting with his US counterpart.

Alice Wells, US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, expressed Washington's "willingness to cooperate with us on Afghanistan, while realizing that the area of cooperation is very narrow," Zamir Kabulov told Russian media after his meeting with Wells on Wednesday on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. The Russian official did not elaborate where that narrow cooperation may lie.

Kabulov pointed out that Afghanistan is one of a few areas where there is a room for "relatively pain-free" cooperation between Moscow and Washington. At the same time, he noted that anti-Russia sanctions limit opportunities for mutual work on pressing international issues.

"[Wells] understands that there are sanctions, but it was they who introduced them," Kabulov said. "You introduced them, then you are to lift them, if you want to cooperate with us," Kabulov said, as cited by RIA Novosti.

Comment: There's more to Afghanistan than meets the eye.

ISIS commanders agree to surrender all territory in rural Hama to the Syrian Army

ISIS-militants
Moments ago, Islamic State commanders reached an agreement with the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) to evacuate all their fighters from the last stretch of ISIS-held territory in Hama province.

According to Al-Masdar News correspondent Ibrahim Joudeh, jihadist militants have already begun to leave the villages and towns of Soha, Abu Hubailat, Akash, Al-Barghouthyah and Umm Mil, all located along the M-45 highway in the southeastern countryside of Hama.

The military source added that around 1,000 ISIS militants and family members were to be transferred from Hama to Deir Ezzor in a deal signed by the SAA on Thursday evening.

Paul Manafort is in legal danger - but Trump likely isn't

Paul Manafort
© Carlo Allegri/ReutersPaul Manafort
We already knew that Paul Manafort was in a heap of trouble. It was almost two months ago - July 26, to be precise - that his Virginia residence was raided by the FBI in the predawn hours.

As I said at the time, prosecutors do not obtain warrants to toss the homes of people they regard as cooperating witnesses. When they are dealing with cooperators, prosecutors politely request that documents be produced, expecting the witness (and his lawyers) to comply. If some coercion is thought necessary, they will issue a grand-jury subpoena - an enforceable directive to produce documents, but one that still allows the witness to hand over the materials, not have them forcibly seized. The execution of a search warrant, even if it goes smoothly, is a show of force. It is intimidating.

When we first learned of the raid, I also emphasized its timing: predawn. Under federal law, search warrants are supposed to be executed during daytime hours, when agents can be expected to knock on the door, announce their presence and purpose, and be admitted by the occupant of the premises. If investigators want to search a home before 6 a.m., they need permission. To get it, they have to convince the judge that, if the occupant were alerted to the agents' presence before they entered, it is likely he would destroy evidence or pose a danger.

Russian PM Medvedev: U.S. wants to stop Russian pipeline project, force-feed Europe with U.S. gas

Washington intends to stop the construction of the extension of the Nord Stream pipeline from Russia to Germany, and become Europe's key gas supplier, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev warned on Thursday.

"The most pragmatic position is the position of the United States of America, which wants to bury this project with all sorts of legal decisions, instruments, sanctions, having an unambiguous impact on the European Union," Medvedev said at a meeting with Finnish counterpart Juha Sipila.

Such pragmatism can be explained by the interests of the US Congress to force-feed American gas to Europe, ousting Russia, Medvedev said.

He said that Finland has taken a "very constructive position regarding Nord Stream-2," by regarding it as a commercial project.

U.S. providers may be forced to drop RT, thanks to hidden McCain/Graham amendment in defense budget bill

RT logo

Buried deep inside the just-passed defense budget is a small amendment, which could lead to a ban on broadcasting RT in America. The architects of the provision, Senators Graham and McCain, may recall that in their youth such practices formed what was known as the 'Iron Curtain'.

The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for the fiscal year 2018, which was passed by the US Senate earlier this week, is stuffed with provisions that have little to do with US national defense. This is a tactic that US lawmakers have traditionally used to 'piggy-back' legislation which would have little hope of adoption as a stand-alone bill.

Deep down the list of amendments is No 1096, which aims to "prohibit multichannel video programming distributors from being required to carry certain video content that is owned or controlled by the Government of the Russian Federation".

Proposed by Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) and co-sponsored by Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-Rhode Island), the amendment was submitted by John McCain (R-Arizona), a fellow foreign policy hawk. The provision says a distributor working in a US jurisdiction "may not be directly or indirectly required" to carry video content that is "is owned, controlled, or financed (in whole or in part) by the Government of the Russian Federation."

Comment: The crusade against Russian media isn't dying down. It's funny. Just like the article says above, the Soviets tried the same thing. But censoring "unfit" narratives and ideas just results in people wanting to hear those ideas, and thinking that the censor has something to hide. The truth is, they do have something to hide. And RT is a reliable source for information the mainstream media refuses to air.
