US billionaires could destroy the Israel Lobby, but they won't

Fact: U.S. billionaires (even just one or two) could, if they wished, totally destroy the power of the Israel Lobby in a few months. All they would have to do is form an independent media network (as Oprah Winfrey, worth "only" $3.1 billion created OWN) and use it to tell the United States public the sordid truth about Israel's ruling class. The truth is not only that the Israeli ruling class of billionaires and generals and politicians carries out violent, racist and morally completely unjustifiable ethnic cleansing against non-Jews (the Palestinians) as discussed here, but also--something that would surprise most Americans even more--that this Jewish Israeli ruling class has a shameful history of betraying ordinary Jews and demonstrating nothing but contempt for them. Read here how the Israeli ruling class is oppressing ordinary Jews today.

The Sordid Truth about Israel's Leaders that the Billionaires Keep Secret

I have created here a document, with referenced sources, listing some of the ways that Israeli rulers have betrayed ordinary Jews from the days of the Nazi Holocaust to recent times. If the American public knew the facts in this document they would be appalled. I have personally experienced that even pro-Israel Jews would be appalled, so much so that they change from viewing people like myself as anti-Semites to viewing us as well-intentioned bearers of the truth.

Comment: The above is one theory (which will stay a theory) until something constructive (or deconstructive) is done to redirect the course of Western countries into a rebalancing of power and removal of elitist/pathological controls.

Two US options: Save itself or continue to destroy the world

Xi message

One Belt-One Road could save the US economy if it was embraced by Washington. The alternative is for the US to fight an increasing numbers of losing wars, all while failing to enrich itself economically and destroying the dream of world peace.

Yesterday's marathon speech by Chinese President Xi Jinping was not only a blueprint for China's future, but for the future of the 21st century. Not only will all roads lead to China by century's end, but in many ways, the new and most vibrant roads in the world already do.

Meanwhile, the US appears to be hellbent on maintaining its power through disrupting China's progress on One Belt-One Road, the system of interconnecting highways and maritime routes that will literally link up new and existing commercial hubs, while symbolising the new modus operandi which underscores the modern Chinese model of exchange. This can be summarised as "share openly, but never impose".

The US model of geo-political/geo-economic quid pro quo, as opposed to the more pragmatic cost benefit analysis business model of China, has clearly failed. Fewer countries are interested in US quid pro quos, because more and more countries realise that in order to gain even limited access to American money and American markets, one has to surrender one's political independence and domestic freedoms.

Comment: It has been evident for some time that the US is on a self-destructive course and has devolved from its high ideals and governing concepts. It may be too far down the road to destruction to make the big U-Turn. Trump was that hope, but alas, without an epiphany supported by the constituency to give him protection, he is 'hope no more'.

Pyongyang touts 'unimaginable strike' as US-SK hold ongoing drills

Pyongyang has warned of an "unimaginable strike at an unimaginable time" on US targets, expressing outrage at the ongoing US-South Korean joint naval drills near the Korean Peninsula.

On Monday, the American and South Korean Navies began massive joint drills in the waters off the Korean Peninsula. The maneuvers, dubbed Maritime Counter Special Operations Forces Exercise (MCSOFEX), involve fighter jets, helicopters and 40 naval ships and submarines from both countries, including the American aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan.

"The US is running amuck [sic] by introducing under our nose the targets we have set as primary ones. The US should expect that it would face unimaginable strike at an unimaginable time," a spokesman from the Pan-Korean emergency measure committee for opposing nuclear war drills said, as cited by the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on Wednesday.

The drills are being held amid rapidly heightening tensions between Washington and Pyongyang, and the North says they are "a demonstration of the real strike upon the DPRK [North Korea]."

"They should know that the toughest Korean countermeasures have been fully prepared to make the strike end in smoke at a single stroke," the statement read. It added that the situation in the region is reaching an "unpredictable phase," while the US and its ally South Korea threaten "the existence" of the North and are "the root cause a nuclear war."

Comment: A US 'show of force', while a tasteless display of men and machinery, is not a threat to 'the existence' of North Korea, nor is it 'the root cause of a nuclear war.' Kim Jung-un and Donald Trump need to get a grip on coexistence in an already overly troubled world. We don't have to spell that out. It is all around us lately.

Pentagon chief Mattis: US military doesn't need 19% of its property

US Defense Secretary James Mattis is having a hard time convincing Congress to cut "excess infrastructure" from the military, estimated to be nearly one-fifth of all military property. Jobs may be at risk, and the savings may not be there, lawmakers fear.

"I must be able to eliminate excess infrastructure in order to shift resources to readiness and modernization," Mattis wrote to Congress on October 6. The letter was released Tuesday by House Armed Services Committee vice chairman Rep. Adam Smith (D-Washington), according to the Washington Examiner.

Mattis estimates that 19 percent of US military properties worldwide may be dispensable, a figure cited in a Pentagon report urging a Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) review. The estimate is based on the military's needs in 2012. A BRAC review would assess how what Pentagon has matches its current needs, and could potentially bring about base closures by the 2020s, the Examiner reported.

However, the recommendation has repeatedly faced obstacles in the legislature. While getting rid of excess assets could save up billions over the long run, its opponents argue that the immediate costs the closures will incur could outweigh the long-term savings. Even if the benefits are greater, some lawmakers are worried they might take quite a while to come about: for example, the last round of BRAC took place in 2005, and it is only expected to start generating savings next year.

Another concern is that of local communities, which benefit from the money the Defense Department pours into developing the local military bases and surrounding infrastructure.

Not all branches in the US military are equally excessive, Smith said. Factored in the average 19 percent figure are the Army with 29 percent "unneeded" assets and the Air Force with 28 percent.

Across all its services and agencies, the Defense Department possesses almost 5,000 military sites around the world, according to its Base Structure Report for fiscal year 2015.

Comment: US Military: Empirical projection through occupation and redundancy. 19% more heart; 19% less might.

Puigdemont will declare independence if Madrid suspends autonomy

President of Catalonia Carles Puigdemont says the region will push for independence if dialogue with Madrid fails. In response, the central authorities vowed to revoke the region's independence, which is to be officially announced on Saturday.

If the government continues to impede dialogue and continues with the repression, the Catalonian parliament could proceed, if it is considered opportune, to vote on a formal declaration of independence," Puigdemont said in his second letter to Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy.

Spain immediately reacted to the leader's statement, published just minutes before the deadline set by Madrid. Earlier, officials had said that if Catalonia still refuses to drop the independence bid, the central government may trigger Article 155 and revoke the region's broad autonomy.

"The government will continue with the procedures set out in Article 155 of the Constitution to restore the legality of self-rule in Catalonia," the government said in a statement.

Despite Trump, EU leaders still committed to Iran Nuclear Deal

EU message

European Union leaders have reaffirmed their commitment to a landmark deal to limit Iran's nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief, despite opposition from U.S. President Donald Trump.

The 28-member bloc gave a nod to concerns Trump has raised, however, by stepping up criticism of Tehran's ballistic-missile program and its role in what the West sees as fomenting instability in the Middle East.

"We fully stay committed to the complete implementation by all sides of the Iranian nuclear deal. We see this as a key security interest for the European Union and the region," the EU's top diplomat, Federica Mogherini, said late on October 19 in Brussels.

The EU leaders issued a joint statement saying, as reported by RFE/RL earlier in the day based on a draft statement, that the EU "reaffirms its full commitment to the Iran nuclear deal."

Since Trump declared his opposition to the 2015 deal and refused to certify Iran's compliance last week, the bloc has been stepping up efforts to save it, and on October 19 appealed to the U.S. Congress not to let it fall apart.

In an address on October 13, Trump asked the U.S. Congress to strengthen a U.S. law related to the deal in order to put additional pressure on Tehran by setting up triggers for the imposition of sanctions. Trump also said he would seek the removal of so-called sunset clauses, which set expiration dates for some restrictions on Iran's nuclear program under the deal between six global powers and Tehran. He threatened to withdraw the United States from the deal if his goals are not met, calling on Congress and U.S. allies to help achieve them, and has repeated that threat in subsequent remarks.

Comment: Let the cooler heads prevail.

Russian ships visit Philippines, Duterte vows to disengage from US

Three Russian navy ships have arrived in the Philippines and two others are expected over the weekend to deliver donated military equipment, officials say.

It is Russia's third naval visit since Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte took office vowing to diversify the country's ties away from the United States and toward China and Russia.

Three Russian antisubmarine ships docked in Manila on October 20 in time for Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu's upcoming visit to the country, said Rear Admiral E. Mikhailov, the task force commander.

Two other vessels will be arriving on October 21 at the port of Subic Bay northwest of Manila to unload donated military equipment, the Philippine Navy said in a statement. The navy said the donated equipment would be handed over to Duterte, who earlier said Russia would provide 5,000 assault rifles.

Shoigu will be attending next week's meeting of 10 Southeast Asian defense ministers with counterparts from other countries, including the United States and China.

"I am assuring you that we will do our best to make this port call a significant contribution to the strengthening of friendly ties and cooperation between our two nations in the interest of security and stability in the region," Mikhailov said.

Russian news agency TASS reported that the Russian Navy will allow local residents of Manila to take tours of the large antisubmarine vessel Admiral Panteleyev during its stay in Manila.

Comment: Duterte is taking new equipment from anyone. In June, this year, he accepted four M134D Gatling-style machine guns, 300 M4 assault rifles and 100 grenade launchers donated by the US to fight islamic influences in Marawi. But, desperate times-desperate measures aside, a Russia-China alliance seems to be his current trajectory.

US State Dept: Al-Nusra affiliate using chemical weapons in Syria

The US Department of State admitted that militants linked to Al-Nusra Front are carrying out terrorist attacks using chemical weapons in Syria. Russia's defense ministry says it's the first admission of its kind.

The assertion was made in the latest Syria travel warning issued by the State Department on Wednesday. It also mentions Islamic State [IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL].
"Terrorist and other violent extremist groups including ISIS and Al-Qaeda linked Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham [dominated by Al-Qaeda affiliate Jabhat Al-Nusra, a designated Foreign Terrorist Organization], operate in Syria," the travel warning reads. "Tactics of ISIS, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, and other violent extremist groups include the use of suicide bombers, kidnapping, small and heavy arms, improvised explosive devices, and chemical weapons," it said.
Terror groups have targeted roadblocks, border crossings, government buildings and other public areas in major Syrian cities of Damascus, Aleppo, Hama, Daraa, Homs, Idlib, and Deir-ez-Zor, the State Department acknowledged.

Meanwhile, Russia's Defense Ministry said a precedent had been set by Washington acknowledging that Al-Nusra linked terrorists use chemical weapons in Syria.

"This is the first official recognition by the State Department not only of the presence, but the very use of chemical weapons by Al-Nusra terrorists to carry out terrorist attacks, which we repeatedly warned about," General Igor Konashenkov, spokesman for the ministry, commented on Friday.

Comment: The US is part of the international agreement to eliminate its supplies of chemical weapons. Russia has already done so. The US stated it needs until 2023 to complete the task.

McCain threatens to subpoena White House for info on Niger attacks

Senator John McCain (R-Arizona) says that he will subpoena the White House for information regarding the recent attacks in Niger, which killed four US servicemen. The issue could become a new bone of contention in McCain's ongoing feud with President Trump.

McCain told reporters Thursday that the Senate Armed Services Committee, which he chairs, has been told "very little"about the operations in Niger that left four US soldiers dead and two wounded. He added that the committee may have to take legal action to get answers from the White House.

"There's a mindset over there that they're a unicameral government," McCain said, according to the Washington Post. He added that "it was easier under Obama" to get information about military operations.
