WhoWhatWhy are reporting that it's unlikely the National Archives will release the 30,000+ JFK assassination documents they were mandated by law to release today. Despite WhoWhatWhy being on the Archives' mailing list for updates, the Archives have been unable to provide any information whatsoever on the number of documents that will be released and whether or not any government agencies have requested documents or sections be redacted or withheld from release. Some agencies apparently have not even sent in their objection letters yet! This is despite the fact that they've had 25 years to prepare - today is the deadline after all - and Trump has signaled that the documents should be released. WhoWhatWhy writes:
Pete Williams, Pentagon Correspondent for NBC News, says he has been told that some agencies have not even gotten their objections in yet to NARA.

In an exchange this morning on a listserv for JFK records researchers, Williams wrote [he approved dissemination of his comments]:
We've been told by intelligence officials that the memo has not even been sent to the White House yet, specifying which material the agencies want withheld. Our understanding is that the CIA is asking only for some redactions, not for documents to be withheld in their entirety. But other agencies involved in the process have not yet finished their submissions.

These officials believe that little material, therefore, will come out today. "There's a mad scramble going on in the executive branch to get this done," one official tells us.
He later added:
I just talked to an official at another US agency whose documents are at issue. His understanding is that some material will come out today but the remainder will be postponed to a later date. However, the issue of what to do now is still being discussed, and no decisions have been made.
This is ridiculous and inexcusable. The fact that some agencies have yet to send their memos should be taken as a tacit sign that they have no objections. They had a deadline; they didn't meet it. The Archives should not cater to their incompetence and/or mendacity. The fact that they are appearing to do exactly that only makes them complicit.

WSJ calls on Mueller to step down from Russia probe

The Wall Street Journal's editorial board called Thursday for FBI Special Counsel Robert Mueller to step down from his role in investigating alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election, saying that he lacks the "critical distance" to analyze recent revelations about the FBI's role in the saga.

"It is no slur against Mr. Mueller's integrity to say that he lacks the critical distance to conduct a credible probe of the bureau he ran for a dozen years," the Journal's editorial board wrote. "He could best serve the country by resigning to prevent further political turmoil over that conflict of interest."

The board was writing in response to recent reports that suggest the FBI uncovered evidence of the Russian bribery and money laundering in the U.S. ahead of a 2010 decision by the Obama administration to greenlight the partial sale of the Canadian firm Uranium One to Russian energy giant Rosatom. The deal transferred control of 20 percent of U.S. uranium stocks to the Russians.

Comment: Hysteria in the US has reached full saturation. The claim that Russians helped create the Steele Dossier are pretty ridiculous, but the 'story' here is that the anti-Russian fervor has gone to such levels that everyone and anyone is implicated.

Podesta denies knowing who funded Trump dossier to Senate Intelligence Committee while sitting next to man who funded it

Hillary Clinton's campaign chairman, John Podesta, recently denied to Senate Intelligence Committee investigators that he knew who had funded the infamous Steele dossier on Donald Trump.

But when he issued that denial, Podesta happened to be sitting next to the man who did pay for the salacious document: Marc Elias, the general counsel for the Clinton campaign and Democratic National Committee.

Elias was in the Senate meeting in his capacity as Podesta's personal attorney, CNN reported on Thursday. But the lawyer, a partner at the firm Perkins Coie, apparently did not reveal during the interview that he was involved in the dossier, which was commissioned by opposition research firm Fusion GPS and written by former British spy Christopher Steele.

The Senate interview with Podesta was conducted before it was revealed that the Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee jointly funded the dossier. The Washington Post reported that Elias, a longtime Democratic party "fixer," paid Fusion GPS through Perkins Coie.

Comment: Killary is likely lying about not knowing about the dossier, and Podesta is following in her footsteps. It's hard to think the Clinton campaign chairman didn't know what a lawyer for the DNC was doing to make the Republican candidate look bad.

A reporter for the Cambridge Evening News received a call telling him to ring the US embassy for "big news" just 25 minutes before John F. Kennedy was shot dead. The revelation emerged in fresh documents released by the US government on Thursday night.

According to the memo, police reported the call to the British intelligence service. Britain's domestic intelligence agency MI5 then is understood to have pledged to support "in every way possible" any investigation in the UK relating to Kennedy's murder.

The memo, signed by CIA deputy director James Angleton, reads: "The caller said only that the Cambridge News reporter should call the American Embassy in London for some big news and then hung up.

"After the word of the President's death was received the reporter informed the Cambridge police of the anonymous call and the police informed MI5.

This incident earlier this month will probably go down in the annals as the most stupid diplomatic f***-up ever:
President Trump on Tuesday expelled 15 Cuban diplomats, escalating his response to a mysterious affliction that has stricken American Embassy personnel in Havana in a move that cast a Cold War chill over relations between the two countries.

American diplomats and their spouses began reporting symptoms that included hearing loss, dizziness, balance and visual problems, headaches and cognitive issues last December. By late January, the State Department realized that the illnesses were related and might have resulted from some sort of attack, perhaps by a sonic device, toxin or virus.
The U.S. diplomats were hearing strange noises at night. This within certain parts of their embassy as well as in some homes. Lots of mischief was suspected - from huge infrasound weapons to food poisoning. But no technical or medical explanation was found. The State Department described the noise as "specific attacks" on its diplomats. At least 21 were affected and half of the U.S. staff in Havana was ordered home. Cuban diplomats were expelled from the U.S.

Comment: Knowing the victim-mentality hysteria gripping the USA, this isn't surprising. Many experts have been saying this is just mass hysteria:
But US and Cuban investigations have produced no evidence of any weapon, and the neurologists argue that the possibility of "functional disorder" due to a problem in the functioning of nervous system - rather than a disease - should be considered.

"From an objective point of view it's more like mass hysteria than anything else," said Mark Hallett, the head of the human motor control section of the US National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.

Alan Carson, a consultant neuropsychiatrist and former president of the British Neuropsychiatry Association told the Guardian: "Typically what one gets in a functional disorder is some trigger. It is often relatively mild and non-specific, it can be a minor physical injury. But then a combination of a degree of anxiety and also belief and expectation distort that feeling."

"If there is a strong enough expectation that something is going to happen, that will distort in an entirely real way the incoming information," Carson said. "In certain circumstances that can be transmitted from person to person... If one person has that experience strongly enough and sets off that train of thought in somebody's else's mind, that can happen too."

Google has partnered with Soros-backed 'fact-checkers' to control news search results

Google has partnered with an organization largely funded by billionaire George Soros to "fact-check" news stories, a move that could affect search results for certain news agencies.

Erica Anderson, Partnerships Manager at Google News Lab, announced Thursday that the company will partner with the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) at the Poynter Institute to "fact-check" news stories that appear on the search engine.

"With so much information available around the clock and across devices, being able to understand at a glance what's true and what's false online is increasingly important," Anderson said in a statement.

She said Google will work with the IFCN in three ways: increase the number of fact-checkers by holding "global fact-check workshops" and offering stipends for new fact-checking organizations; expanding the IFCN Code of Principles into new regions; and providing fact-checking tools to the IFCN community at no charge.

The chairman of the Federal Communications Commission said he'll move to weaken or kill local media ownership restrictions next month, potentially clearing the way for more consolidation among companies that own TV and radio stations.

Chairman Ajit Pai told Congress he'll ask the FCC, where he leads a Republican majority, to eliminate the rule barring common ownership of a newspaper and nearby broadcast station, and to revise restrictions on owning multiple broadcast outlets in a single market.

"If you believe, as I do, that the federal government has no business intervening in the news, then we must stop the federal government from intervening in the news business," Pai said in a hearing of the House communications subcommittee. He said that's why he offered his rules revision to "help pull the government once and for all out of the newsroom."

Catalan parliament holds secret ballot - votes for independence from Spain

Following a secret ballot, separatist lawmakers in Catalonia have passed a motion to declare independence from Spain. Opposition members boycotted the vote.

The independence motion was passed with 70 votes in favor, 10 against, and two blank ballots, the assembly's speaker announced, according to Reuters. The vote led to a celebration among thousands of independence supporters cheering in the streets in Barcelona, the region's capital.

Lawmakers from the Socialist Party, the People's Party (PP), and Ciudadanos left the chamber in protest ahead of the vote. The European Commission has declined to comment following the vote, according to Reuters.


Meanwhile, Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has urged for calm, stating that the rule of law will be restored in Catalonia. "I ask for calm from all Spaniards. The rule of law will restore legality in Catalonia," Rajoy tweeted.

EU officials criticizing the Philippines' war on drugs and the killings related to it can either accept the official explanation from Manila, or go to hell, leader Rodrigo Duterte said.

Duterte delivered the fiery message on Wednesday while commenting on the recently published annual EU report on human rights and democracy. The paper claimed that a culture of impunity prevails and the human rights situation in the Philippines deteriorated rapidly in the last six month of 2016. Duterte became president of the country in June 2016.

"Pardon me, Senator Angara. I appointed him as an envoy to EU. I've been trying to explain to them, but I said to them, if they listen to you, sir, fine. If not, they can all go to hell," Duterte said regarding his advice for the Philippines envoy to the EU, lawyer and former Senator Edgardo Angara. "That's what I said to Obama, you go to hell. Why should I not tell him that? He was berating me in public," Duterte added.
