Towards a "no fly zone" in northern Syria: Is the US and its allies preparing a bombing campaign in Syria?

John Bolton
© Abir Sulton/United Press InternationalNational security adviser John Bolton speaks to reporters in Jerusalem, Israel, August 22, 2018. Bolton said the United States will exert maximum pressure on Iran beyond economic sanctions -- and drew a warning from Tehran saying it will hit U.S. and Israeli targets if attacked.
Are the U.S. France and Britain preparing to launch punitive airstrikes against Syria in reprisal for another (forthcoming) "false flag" Chemical Weapons attack allegedly ordered by president Bashar al Assad against his own people?

U.S. National Security Adviser John Bolton is reported to have told his Russian counterpart, Nikolai Patrushev, that "Syrian President Bashar al-Assad may be preparing to use chemical weapons to recapture the northwestern province of Idlib from rebels."

On August 22, at a press conference in Jerusalem, John Bolton, Trump's ("Humanitarian") National Security Adviser expressed his "concern" intimating that Assad is preparing to "kill his own people":

Senior officials from Japan and North Korea held secret negotiations in Vietnam in July without the United States' knowledge, The Washington Post reported, citing informed sources.

The meeting was attended by top Japanese intelligence official Shigeru Kitamura and senior North Korean official in charge of Korean reunification Kim Song Hye, The Washington Post newspaper said Tuesday.

Senior US officials have reportedly expressed their discontent over not being informed about the talks.

Daily Caller: China - not Russia - hacked Clinton's private email server

clinton china
  • A Chinese-owned company penetrated former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's private server, according to sources briefed on the matter.
  • The company inserted code that forwarded copies of Clinton's emails to the Chinese company in real time.
  • The Intelligence Community Inspector General warned of the problem, but the FBI subsequently failed to act, Texas Republican Rep. Louie Gohmert said during a July hearing.
A Chinese-owned company operating in the Washington, D.C., area hacked Hillary Clinton's private server throughout her term as secretary of state and obtained nearly all her emails, two sources briefed on the matter told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

The Chinese firm obtained Clinton's emails in real time as she sent and received communications and documents through her personal server, according to the sources, who said the hacking was conducted as part of an intelligence operation.

The Chinese wrote code that was embedded in the server, which was kept in Clinton's residence in upstate New York. The code generated an instant "courtesy copy" for nearly all of her emails and forwarded them to the Chinese company, according to the sources.

Iran's Khamenei says his country could pull out of nuclear deal

khamenei
Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei met with President Hassan Rohani and his cabinet on August 29.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has warned that the country could abandon its nuclear deal with world powers if the agreement does not serve its interests.

Khamenei made the comments on August 29 after the United States withdrew from the 2015 agreement in May and earlier this month started reimposing U.S. economic sanctions on Iran that had been lifted under the accord in exchange for curbs on Tehran's nuclear program.

European countries have been working to salvage the accord to prevent Tehran from developing a nuclear weapon.

But Khamenei's official website quoted him as saying that Iran should "give up hope" of European powers salvaging the nuclear agreement.

"The nuclear accord is a means, not the goal, and if we come to this conclusion that it does not serve our national interests, we can abandon it," Khamenei said in a meeting with President Hassan Rohani and his cabinet.

Comment: The myth of American military dominance is coming to an end. And as it does so, American policymakers have seemingly shifted a part of their focus to a type of warfare they actually excel at: economic siege warfare. If they can't simply bomb a country back to Stone Age conditions (that only works on weak, defenseless targets), they simply attempt to starve them to death. Because democracy.

WaPo praises 'human rights champion' McCain - with picture of him next to Ukrainian Nazi

Mainstream US media have been singing eulogies to the late Senator John McCain after he succumbed to brain cancer last weekend. Among them is a column in the Washington Post titled 'The human rights community lost a champion.'

Author Jennifer Rubin describes how McCain "traveled the world to meet with dissidents, criticize dictators and support those struggling for freedom." The chief example of his rooting for the "oppressed" was his trip to the Ukrainian capital Kiev during the beginnings of what would become the violent coup of 2014. On that trip, McCain, a belligerent and hawkish patriot of American interests, went on a makeshift stage at the Maidan, Kiev's Freedom Square, and told the protesters: "The free world is with you. America is with you. I am with you."

He did so while standing next to one of Ukraine's most prominent ultranationalists, a man known for openly anti-Semitic rhetoric and deemed a neo-Nazi by a number of journalists, analysts and hate speech monitors.

Seen to McCain's right in the very cover picture WaPo used for its story, is Oleg Tyagnibok (anglicized Ukrainian spelling Oleh Tyahnybok), the leader of All-Ukrainian Union "Svoboda" ("Freedom") an ultranationalist political party formerly known as the Social-National Party of Ukraine. Tyagnibok is widely known for his 2005 call on the government to halt the "criminal activities" of "organized Jewry," which he accused of plotting the genocide of Ukrainian people.

Comment: It's quite disturbing to see the outpouring of postmortem praise for a sick SOB like John McCain. The man has been a friend of terrorists and nazis for decades. And to all those moralizing that we should not speak ill of the dead, perhaps they should practice what they preach. We doubt they have the same perspective when it comes to people like Osama bin Laden, Mohammed Atta, Stalin, Hitler, or any other demon incarnate (according to the American mythos). But hey, McCain was "our" demon, right?

Tacit acknowledgement MSM is an arm of government? Public money may be given to billionaire press barons

Public money could be given to billionaire press barons such as Rupert Murdoch, ostensibly so the government can 'sell the idea' that they are safeguarding the future of British newspapers, according to a press freedom campaigner.

'The Cairncross Review', a little-publicised public consultation, was launched by the Tory government on June 28, with the directive of gathering evidence and ideas to help "sustain the production and distribution of high-quality journalism in a changing market."

The consultation could result in public funds being given to owners of The Sun and Daily Mail, according to Byline, an independent, crowd-funded media outlet.

Officials admit Russian diplomat expulsions ousted spies, crippling US spying operations in Russia

Russia expels US diplomats
Buses wait outside the US Embassy compound in Moscow.
In March, Russia retaliated for the US expulsion of Russian diplomats with the closure of a US consulate, and the expulsion of 60 American diplomats. US officials were quoted in the New York Times on Friday confirming that this included a number of US spies.

Exactly how many spies were expelled from Russia in this closure is not clear, but the officials quoted said that the loss of intelligence officers has "hurt collection efforts" for the intelligence community.

This was apparently a substantial blow to the US spies operating inside Russia, and combined with increased counterintelligence efforts by Russia, they say the CIA and other US spy agencies are increasingly in the dark about Russia's intentions.

And while that's certainly interesting in and of itself, the admission is more startling, as it is a de facto admission that US officials in Russia as diplomatic agents were illegally operating as spies against their hosting country.

Comment: On the expelling of Russian diplomats: mere tokenism in Europe; childish petulance in Washington

ICE ignored 'sanctuary' of Calif. courtroom and arrested illegal alien

Sacramento Superior Court Judge Lawrence Brown
Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers arrested an illegal alien inside a Sacramento courtroom last week, determined to do their job despite California lawmakers' attempt to make the state a "sanctuary" for illegal immigrants.

Charles Pacheco, a Sacramento attorney, said the arraignment for his client, Yovanny Ontiveros-Cebreros, was concluding when ICE agents handcuffed Cebreros and escorted him from the building.

Pacheco said he asked Superior Court Judge Lawrence Brown to step in, and Brown placed Cebreros in an area designated for defendants who are in custody.

Though he initially tried to prevent ICE's arrest, Brown told Pacheco he had to support ICE's warrant for arrest. He told Pacheco he was "puzzled," according to Pacheco.

"The judge was weak-he had no control of his courtroom, and allowed the federal government to come into his court," Pacheco told The Sacramento Bee.

Russia announces planned chemical weapon provocation in Idlib using Western proxy terrorists

The planned chemical weapon provocation in the Syrian province of Idlib is aimed at maintaining the presence of Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist group in the area, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

Lavrov, who met his Saudi counterpart, Adel al-Jubeir in Moscow on Wednesday, also said that Moscow remains in contact with Washington on the situation in the militant-held Idlib province.

The Russian FM compared the terrorist presence in the province with an "abscess" that should be swiftly removed.

The Minister also noted that the overall goal in Washington with regard to war-ravaged Syria, was not really helping the country, but to push for regime change.

"It's not the first time the US - no matter the administration - has prioritized the task of changing dissident regimes above the common goals of eradicating terrorism and extremism. It happened in Iraq and Libya. Now they're trying to do the same in Syria. To phrase it more correctly - they tried to do it in Syria, but failed," Lavrov said.

Comment: Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov further elaborated on the planned false flag, saying that the attack would be carried out by the Al-Qaeda-linked Levant Liberation Committee, which would be filmed by the White Helmets and used as a pretext by the West to carry out a large-scale military operation in Syria.

Major-General Aleksey Tsygankov also alleged that chemical weapons were delivered to an arms depot, used by the militant group Ahrar al-Sham, "accompanied by the eight members of the White Helmets organization". Tsygankov added that the cargo was met by two high-ranking Ahrar al-Sham commanders. He further explained about the planned false flag:
"Later, a part of the load was put in unmarked plastic barrels and transported to another militant base in the southern Idlib in order to stage the use of chemical weapons and subsequently blame the government forces of employing poisonous substances against civilians"
The Russian Defense Ministry also pointed out that the US and its allies were intending to create a no-fly zone in northern Syria by sending cruise missile carriers to the Middle East region. That would conveniently allow them to then attack in Syria after the planned chemical provocation operation was carried out.

This all seems like a set of planned operations initiated by Western intelligence agencies to further demonize Syria and Russia and allow them to continue the US Empire's presence in Syria in order to further their regime change plans. It hasn't worked for years, yet the obstinate Americans continue to think they can change reality.

Russia to undertake 'unprecedented' military drills in September, mobilizing 300,000 troops

russian soldier
In September, Russia will undertake its annual Vostok-2018 international strategic drills. This was reported by TASS and Bloomberg News on Tuesday, August 28th. The drill is unprecedented in scale.

Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu stated that the Vostok-2018 ("Vostok" is "East" in English) will mobilize about 300,000 troops and include the participation of thousands of Chinese soldiers as well. The Northern and Pacific fleets will add about 1,000 aircraft to participate in the drills. From TASS:
Russia's largest maneuvers Zapad-2017 (West-2017) held last year jointly with Belarus involved about 12,700 troops. [As of] January 1, 2018, the size of the Russian Armed Forces stands at 1,902,758 personnel, including 1,013,628 servicemen.

According to the defense minister, Russia has not held maneuvers comparable by their scope with the upcoming military drills since 1981.

"In some ways, they resemble the Zapad-81 drills but in other ways they are, perhaps, even larger. Over 1,000 aircraft, almost 300,000 servicemen at almost all the training ranges of the Central and Eastern Military Districts and, naturally, the Pacific and Northern Fleets and the Airborne Force will be fully employed," the defense minister said.

The maneuvers traditionally begin with a large series of preparatory measures: about 15 special drills for troops' logistic support. "And, as a rule, this is coupled with a snap check announced by the Russian president, the supreme commander-in-chief, which has actually become good practice in our life and work," the defense minister said.

"Just imagine that 36,000 pieces of military hardware are simultaneously in motion: these are tanks, armored personnel carriers, infantry fighting vehicles and all this is, naturally, checked in conditions close to a combat environment," the Russian defense minister said.
