Top US military officials have been involved in drawing up a plan for "security guarantees" for Kiev advocated by Paris and London that includes a massive troop deployment to Ukraine, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday, citing a European diplomat.

The scheme drawn up primarily by European army chiefs includes two groups of forces that are to be sent to Ukraine, according to the report. One of them would be tasked with training and assistance to the Ukrainian military, while the second would serve as a "reassurance force" for Kiev. The troops are to be deployed once Moscow and Kiev reach a peace deal.

A total of 26 nations agreed to contribute to "security guarantees" for Ukraine in various ways, French President Emmanuel Macron said earlier this week, following a meeting of the so-called 'coalition of the willing' - a group of Kiev's European backers.

The current commitments would allow for a deployment of over 10,000 troops to Ukraine, the WSJ source said, adding that the plan "received input from some US generals," including the US head of the NATO Allied Command Operations.

Comment: If Moscow and Kiev reach a peace deal, who needs European military and US generals to train women and boys? Willing to oblige, Zelensky is playing Europe for the fool.

Pentagon plan to prioritize homeland over China threat

This marks a major departure from the first Trump administration, which emphasized deterring Beijing.

Pentagon officials are proposing the department prioritize protecting the homeland and Western Hemisphere, a striking reversal from the military's yearslong mandate to focus on the threat from China.

A draft of the newest National Defense Strategy, which landed on Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's desk last week, places domestic and regional missions above countering adversaries such as Beijing and Moscow, according to three people briefed on early versions of the report.

The move would mark a major shift from recent Democrat and Republican administrations, including President Donald Trump's first term in office, when he referred to Beijing as America's greatest rival. And it would likely inflame China hawks in both parties who view the country's leadership as a danger to U.S. security.

Trump officials, allies move to dismantle Obama-era guidelines that pressured banks to drop conservatives

President Donald Trump is expected to sign an executive order directing federal regulators to eliminate Obama-era guidelines that pressure banks to deny services to conservative groups. It also calls to punish banks that drop customers because of politics.

The executive order could come as soon as this week, the Wall Street Journal reported after reviewing a draft.

"Conservatives for years have accused banks of denying them services on political or religious grounds, and cryptocurrency companies have said they were shut out of banking services under the Biden administration," the Journal reported.

The guidelines originated in 2011. They urge banks to consider the "reputational risk" of clients, an "inherently subjective" standard that "allows regulators biased against certain industries (such as gun manufacturers or cryptocurrency firms) to grade those industries as too risky," according to the America First Policy Institute.

The 2011 guidance laid the groundwork for Operation Choke Point, an Obama Justice Department initiative launched two years later that pressured banks to cut off services to firearms dealers, payday lenders, online gambling platforms, and other legal businesses.

Comment: A country-wide banking course-correction from the Obama era? What else has been purposefully kept from public attention?

New declassified Comey memos reveal Obama Admin's endorsement of Russian Hoax operation

obama comey
Former President Barack Obama and former FBI Director James Comey
Newly unclassified memos from disgraced former FBI Director James Comey confirmed that the Obama administration not only welcomed the Russia meddling hoax but also discussed potential post-election actions.

Journalist Catherine Herridge first shared the October 2016 memos on X on Friday after FBI Director Kash Patel approved their declassification.

In one memo, Comey asked, "What is the goal? Informing US people? Disrupting Russians."

Elsewhere, he contemplated potential steps after President Donald Trump's election in 2016.

Comment: This slime ran the FBI during the majority of the Obama admin (2013-17). Plenty of time to strategize on how to demonize Trump, protect Killary, and agree to be Barry's eyes and ears in the next administration. Most of Trump's first administration was in on it:

Israel backs away from West Bank annexation plan after UAE warning - report

West Jerusalem was taken by surprise by the admonition, the Washington Post has reported

A public warning from the United Arab Emirates prompted the Israeli government to drop a planned discussion on annexing the West Bank, the Washington Post has reported. A senior UAE diplomat reportedly told Israeli media earlier this week that the move would be a "red line" that would block Israel's path to regional integration.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was scheduled to discuss the issue at a major government meeting on Friday, according to local media. On Wednesday, UAE special envoy Lana Nusseibeh told the Times of Israel that annexation would "foreclose the idea of regional integration."

"For every Arab capital you talk to, the idea of regional integration is still a possibility, but annexation to satisfy some of the radical extremist elements in Israel is going to take that off the table," she stated.

Delusional: German MP calls for access to UK and French nuclear weapons

Jens Spahn
Jens Spahn believes there needs to be European-level nuclear deterrence and that Berlin should take the lead

Germany should have access to French and British nuclear weapons, senior lawmaker Jens Spahn has said. In return, Berlin could work with Paris and London to modernize their arsenals, he told the newspaper FAZ.

Spahn, who leads the joint CDU/CSU parliamentary group, has emerged as a strong proponent of an EU-level nuclear weapons system.

"We... need an ability to deter at the European level... together with the French and the British," he said in an interview published on Saturday, arguing that US nuclear arms in Europe are no longer sufficient.

The MP, a former federal health minister, said debate on the issue "will only happen if Germany pushes it forward." He suggested that London and Paris could keep most control over their nuclear arsenals, while Berlin could take part in a modernization program.

In July, Spahn also spoke about the need "to talk about German or European [access] to the nuclear arsenals of France and Great Britain" in light of what he called the "threat" coming from Russia. Nations without nuclear deterrence will "become pawns in global politics," he argued.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi has warned that Berlin could develop its own nuclear bomb within months if it chose to.

Comment: Russia is likely to have a negative attitude to a nuclear armed Germany and so should everybody else.

Comment: The German MP, Jens Spahn is from the party CDU (Merkel's party) and the majority leader in the German parliament. He served as Federal Minister of Health from 2018 to 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany.

Best of the Web: A multipolar world order is rising: The West just watched as the world shifted in Tianjin

modi putin jinping russia india china multipolar world
© GODL-IndiaNarendra Modi with Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Tianjin, China August 31, 2025.
At the recent Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Tianjin, leaders representing over half of humanity signaled the rise of a multipolar world order. As China, Russia, India, and Central Asia push new financial and trade systems, the West risks being left on the sidelines.

When the leaders of China, Russia, India, and several Central Asian states gathered in Tianjin last week for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit, the world should have paid far closer attention. Collectively, the countries represented at the table account for more than half of humanity, command immense reserves of natural resources, and increasingly drive a larger share of global GDP. This is not a peripheral coalition but a core pillar of the international system in the making.

Yet much of the Western press treated the gathering as little more than a diplomatic sideshow, overshadowed by domestic political debates or the latest updates from NATO. That was a mistake. What unfolded in Tianjin was not just another regional summit. It was the clearest indication yet that the unipolar world of U.S. primacy, which dominated the decades after the Cold War, is giving way to a new and contested multipolar order.

Israel is systematically flattening high-rise buildings in Gaza City

The war on the 'high rises' has begun, as shocking footage shows Israel's military has begun pulling down buildings one by one as part of its operation to take over Gaza City, through powerful missile strikes at their base.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has sought to justify its actions by saying Hamas and Islamic Jihad hide in the buildings, as use them to organize assaults on Israeli troops.

Comment: Don't forget to mention those 'Hamas tunnels'.

There seems to be no low Israel is unwilling to sink to:

Al-Mawasi on the southern coast and has many sand dunes. It is fourteen kilometers long and one kilometer wide, making up about 3% of the Gaza Strip. Israel is cramming over a million people into 3% of Gaza. There's a word for that . . . .

The U.S. visa cancellations for Palestinians marks another step towards West Bank annexation

The cancellation of visas for Palestinian officials is part of a a wider effort by Israel and the U.S. to prevent international recognition of a Palestinian state, and to further Trump's grandiose plans for Gaza and Israel's plans for the West Bank.

Last week, the U.S. State Department revoked visas for leaders of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), including Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. That effectively blocked them from attending the upcoming United Nations General Assembly session in New York.

Abbas had hoped to address the assembly, where France and Saudi Arabia are planning to co-chair a meeting intended to salvage the long-dead and mythical "two-state solution." The assembly is also expected to see a number of European states respond to Israel's genocide in Gaza with recognition of Palestinian statehood. Of course, the recognition is largely symbolic and ineffective, given that no Palestinian state actually exists, thanks to Israel.

Donald Trump and the mythology of expert governance

As President Trump continues to impose his will on numerous government agencies, his critics become increasingly angry — and helpless. At their point in his presidency, we are seeing two opposite and irreconcilable narratives, with neither really being correct.

The anti-Trump legions believe the following: Donald Trump is laying waste to the most important, even sacred, federal agencies and departments. For example, David French writes in The New York Times that Trump had exploded an "atomic bomb" on the Department of Justice, while Robert F. Kennedy at Health and Human Services is destroying our entire public health infrastructure with his vaccine skepticism and other moves that are enraging health experts.

On the other side, the narrative is: Trump is finally cleaning out the swamp and bringing sanity and integrity to government agencies that too long have been part of the Deep State, which has been promoting and protecting pharmaceutical firms and other politically-connected industries — to the detriment of most Americans.

It is obvious that one cannot reconcile one set of beliefs with the other, so one is supposed to believe that what Trump is doing is unprecedented in our history, or he is doing what has needed to be done for decades but had not because no one in the White House had the political will to step forward.

So, how do we form opinions on what we are seeing? Given Trump's in-your-face pronouncements in his speeches and on forums like X and Truth Social, one cannot be neutral about him, but there is a way to make better sense of what is happening, and it involves taking a different look at the vast entity known as the federal government.
