President Vladimir Putin on Monday approved a new foreign policy doctrine based around the concept of a "Russian World", a notion that conservative ideologues have used to justify intervention abroad in support of Russian-speakers.

The 31-page "humanitarian policy", published more than six months into the war in Ukraine, says Russia should "protect, safeguard and advance the traditions and ideals of the Russian World".

While presented as a kind of soft power strategy, it enshrines in official policy ideas around Russian politics and religion that some hardliners have used to justify Moscow's occupation of parts of Ukraine and support for breakaway pro-Russian entities in the east of the country.

The War on Life

What the climate emergency narrative tells us about the death cult's psychology.
Ancient Yi Wasteland,
© Luye ZhangAncient Yi Wasteland.
The imminent destruction of the Earth's climate at human hands has been a constant theme throughout my life. The exact form of it has evolved somewhat over time. When I was a kid in the 80s it was the disappearing ozone layer. In the 90s it was global warming. In the naughts it morphed into climate change. Most recently the branding got racheted up to the more emphatic Climate Emergency.

It doesn't matter that none of the dire predictions of the past have manifested. Back around the turn of the millenium Al Gore rode a crane up the side of the infamous and long-discredited hockeystick graph, and confidently proclaimed that snow would soon be a thing of the past. Meanwhile, here in 2022, the Greenland ice sheet just added more mass in one day that at any other summer day in recorded history. That's just one example; there are others, more meaningful, such as the continuous failure of climate models to match actual global temperature changes, with the models consistently predicting far higher temperatures than have actually been experienced; the infamous emails between climatologists, arguing about how best to 'hide the decline' in global temperatures; the numerous instances of data having been manipulated to try and turn flat temperatures into slight increases, to smooth out previous warm or cool eras in order to emphasize recent supposed trends; and so on.

The failures of the models don't matter. Just as with the COVID mask formation, the goldfish memories of the educated portion of the tax cattle extend just as far as the most recent iteration of the ongoing psyops campaign. All the failed predictions are forgotten just as soon as they look at the latest blood-red weather map, in which temperatures that a mere decade past would have been depicted with happy smiling cartoon suns are painted in the colour scheme of a murder scene.

I'm not going to ajudicate whether anthropogenic global warming driven by carbon dioxide emissions has any basis in fact. It doesn't, and if you're in the group that thinks it does, well, you're probably fully boosted and looking forward to consooming next booster, so I don't really know what to tell you. I'm also not going to speculate on why so many people keep falling for it - it's for the same reason, ultimately, that they fell for the coronavirus psyop, the same reason they put pronouns in their email signatures, the same reason they loudly agree that white supremacist patriarchy is the real power structure in society, and the same reason they think the Rangz of Powah is a masterpiece of mythopoetic cinematography. Weak humans have low pain tolerance, and when you're a loyal citizen of the Empire of Lies the Truth Hurts like carbolic acid applied directly to the nerve endings.

What I'm interested in here is, why global warming, precisely? Why is the parasite class so obsessed with pushing this specific narrative?

The upcoming winter may turn out to be a tough one for European states and they themselves are to blame for it, warned Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan during a press conference in Ankara on Tuesday.

The Turkish leader told journalists that "Europe is reaping what it sows" when it comes to the natural gas shortages plaguing the region and that the countries' attitude towards Russian President Vladimir Putin and the sweeping sanctions imposed on Moscow are to blame for the current crisis.

"I think that Europe will spend this winter with serious problems. Turkey, at this stage, has no such problems with gas supplies," Erdogan noted.

Taliban officials are on the verge of signing a contract for Afghanistan to purchase gasoline and benzene from Russia, Afghan authorities told Reuters.

Per the outlet, which published its report on Monday, Afghan officials said that a Taliban delegation was in the final stages of talks in Moscow for the terms of the contract.

Reuters cited a spokesperson from Afghanistan's ministry of economy, Habiburahman Habib, who confirmed that the officials were negotiating contracts for wheat, gas, and oil.

The delegation is also deliberating on how Afghanistan would transfer its funds for Russia's supplies due to sanctions imposed on most of the banks from either nation, said Nooruddin Azizi, Afghanistan's acting commerce minister, according to local outlet TOLO News.

Comment: And, right on cue, just yesterday (US-backed) ISIS claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing outside Russia's embassy that killed two Russian staff.

Judge suspends DOJ investigation of Trump, grants special master request

A federal judge on Monday granted former President Donald Trump's request that a special master review items the FBI seized from Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence and also halted the Department of Justice's (DOJ) use of the items for "investigative purposes."

U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, a Trump-appointed judge, ruled that a special master will be appointed to review the seized items to determine if any are personal items or items subject to claims of attorney-client privilege or executive privilege.

Cannon also ruled that the DOJ must suspend its use of Trump's items for "investigative purposes" while the special master conducts its review, but also noted that the Office of the Director of National Intelligence could continue its "classification review and/or intelligence assessment."

Cannon wrote that the court was "mindful of the need to ensure at least the appearance of fairness and integrity under the extraordinary circumstances presented" in granting Trump's request.

UN team issues report on shelled nuclear site

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has called for an end to all military activity around the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant and insisted that shelling in the area must stop. The agency's report on the situation in Ukraine, published on Tuesday, stopped short of identifying the culprits targeting the Russian-held facility.

"Any military activity - such as shelling - within, or in the vicinity of, a nuclear facility has the potential to cause an unacceptable radiological consequence," the IAEA report said, adding that the "seven pillars" of nuclear safety "have all been compromised at the site."

"The IAEA recommends that shelling on site and in its vicinity should be stopped immediately to avoid any further damages to the plant and associated facilities, for the safety of the operating staff and to maintain the physical integrity to support safe and secure operation," the agency said, adding that this would require "agreement by all relevant parties to the establishment of a nuclear safety and security protection zone around the ZNPP."

Putin observes joint & large-scale military drills with China, India, other nations, in Russia's Far East

Russian President Vladimir Putin has attended large-scale military exercises in his country's far east involving thousands of troops from China and the militaries of several other nations.

Putin observed the joint war games, dubbed the Vostok-2022 (East 2022), which began at the beginning of September and are being held on training grounds in the waters off Russia's eastern coast, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told local news agencies on Tuesday.

The drills involve troops from several ex-Soviet nations as well as China, India, Laos, Mongolia, Nicaragua, and Syria.

More than 50,000 soldiers and more than 5,000 units of military equipment, including 140 aircraft and 60 ships, are involved in the exercises, which run until Wednesday. China sent more than 2,000 troops along with more than 300 military vehicles, 21 combat aircraft, and three warships to take part in the drills, according to Chinese news reports.

Comment: Russia showcases its freshly-deployed anti-ship missiles:
Russia's Bastion anti-ship missile system has now been used in a live-fire exercise on the Far Eastern island of Matua, the Defense Ministry has reported. The system was tested during recent drills on an island chain that has long been the center of a territorial dispute with Japan.

Matua is part of the Kuril Archipelago, a group of islands stretching from Russia's Kamchatka to the Japanese island of Hokkaido. Last December, the Russian Defense Ministry reported boosting anti-ship defenses in the area with Bastion launchers stationed on Matua. Tuesday's training exercise was the first time they were reported to have been used.

According to the synopsis of the exercise released by the Defense Ministry, the launchers were moved into attack positions to fire at a simulated foreign warship that had violated Russian territorial waters in an attempt to land troops on one of the Kuril Islands. Once the ship moved "into a critical range," it was engaged with an Oniks missile, which Bastion launchers carry.

Japan contests Russian territorial claims to the four Kuril Islands that are located closest to its territory. The dispute, which stems from World War II, is the reason why Russia and Japan never signed a peace treaty. Moscow has previously ruled out relinquishing the islands to Japan, with one of the considerations being that Tokyo could militarize them.

The long-running diplomatic spat was exacerbated this year after Japan joined the US in imposing anti-Russian sanctions over its operation in Ukraine.

This week, Moscow scrapped a 1999 agreement with Tokyo that had allowed Japanese citizens to visit two of the disputed islands under a simplified procedure. The Russian Foreign Ministry also reported a full suspension of talks on the status of the islands and on projects to develop them economically together with Japan.
As noted above, Russia has every reason to believe that Japan would willingly do the US' belligerent bidding. Also of note is the significant military base on its island of Okinawa - which is also widely despised by locals: Russia suspends fishing deal with Japan near disputed islands after Tokyo fails to pay & ramps up military exercises with NATO

Economist who predicted 2008 financial crisis warns of historic market crash in US

The US economy could sink into a quagmire of shrinking output, surging inflation and soaring unemployment, renowned economist and New York University professor Nouriel Roubini warned last week during an eToro webinar.

He argued that the Federal Reserve might have to double interest rates to 5% in order to curb inflation. However, such an increase could choke economic growth and cause a spike in joblessness, Roubini stressed. Moreover, raising rates could trigger a debt crisis.

The economist also cautioned that the US regulator's moves to rein in inflation could tank the economy, and cause crashes across stocks, bonds, housing, credit, private equity, and other assets in bubble territory. However, if the central bank gives up on fighting inflation, price increases could spiral out of control.

Russia-Ukraine updates: IAEA seeks protection zone around Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant

Rafael Grossi

The International Atomic Energy Agency has called for an end to shelling near Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant. Meanwhile, Putin is overseeing joint drills with China and India. DW rounds up the latest.

The United Nations' International Atomic Energy Agency has called for the establishment of a protection zone around Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (ZNPP) in southern Ukraine, so long as Russia's invasion continues.

In a report issued after visiting the nuclear plant — Europe's largest — the IAEA said shelling presented a major risk to nuclear safety. The report said:
"The IAEA is still gravely concerned about the situation at the ZNPP — this hasn't changed.

"While the ongoing shelling has not yet triggered a nuclear emergency, it continues to represent a constant threat to nuclear safety and security with potential impact on critical safety functions that may lead to radiological consequences with great safety significance."
It said the best course of action would be for the conflict to end, but failing that, a security area should be established. It also called for the removal of the Russian armored vehicles that the delegation observed at the plant.

Comment: Numerous issues and complications illustrate 1) the need to come to resolution, and 2) the prospects that it won't.

EU has to foot the bill for anti-Russia sanctions - ex deputy PM

Salvini

The European Union should compensate its citizens for the 'energy pandemic' resulting from anti-Russia sanctions over the Ukraine conflict, Italy's former deputy prime minister Matteo Salvini said on Sunday.

Speaking to RTL radio, Salvini, a member of the Senate who leads the right-wing Lega Nord party, drew a parallel with financial stimulus packages during Covid lockdowns.
"Let Europe, as it happened during the pandemic, put up a shield, to protect families and businesses, and cover the extra bills families have to pay. Brussels will need to adopt such measures to stave off mass unemployment."
Salvini also signaled his support for anti-Russia sanctions, despite their apparent inefficiency. He noted that his party has endorsed all kinds of support for Ukraine and condemned Russia's military offensive. However, he pointed out that Moscow is raking in the profits from high oil and gas prices, while Europe is reeling from the energy crunch.

"It would be the only case in which the sanctioned person makes money and the one who sanctions suffers", he noted, adding that Brussels recognizes that economic warfare is a double-edged sword. According to the Italian politician, the EU cannot simply lift the sanctions, as that would imply giving in to Russia.
