Rex Murphy: Trudeau feigns regret for attacking Freedom Convoy as a 'fringe'

It's called 'second thought' virtue signalling: Churchill during the protest; Gandhi, the morning after.

On Friday last week we had the moderately awaited report on the calling of the Emergencies Act, and the revelation, via the Globe and Mail, of Chinese government interference in the Canadian election.

The report in my opinion was a pure dud. It danced around with equivalencies — police forces were unprepared, there was a lack of coordination between agencies, the media was stocked with alarming stories that proved empty or false, Mr. Trudeau was provocative, the truckers were loud ... and on and on, it was a tango of "on the one hand, but then on the other hand."

It concluded with an almost outrageous reflection that reasonable people could come to a different conclusion than the author of the report. In other words the justice was saying, while I have determined the invocation of the gravest legislation on the Canadian statute books was "justified," others, of decent judgment and intellect, looking at the same facts, reviewing the same material, could quite reasonably conclude it wasn't.

Western spies ramping up activities in Belarus claims country's security chief, as parliament proposes death penalty for high treason

Ivan Tertel
The head of the Belarusian KGB said the focus was on recruiting officials with access to secret information
Western intelligence services have significantly ramped up their activities against Belarus, Ivan Tertel, the head of the State Security Committee (KGB), said on Wednesday.

Speaking at the session of the Council of the Republic, the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament, Tertel said that Western spy agencies prioritize the "recruitment of persons who have the opportunity to obtain classified information ... employees of law enforcement agencies and employees of the state apparatus."

In this vein, "aggressive activities of foreign intelligence services" to infiltrate Belarusian power structures require "complex measures" to neutralize the threat to national security, the KGB head said.

Speaker McCarthy releases 41,000 hours of exclusive Jan. 6 footage to Tucker Carlson: Report

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) reportedly gave 41,000 hours of exclusive U.S. Capitol surveillance footage from the January 6 riot to Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who could begin airing the highly anticipated release on his programs in the coming weeks.

According to an Axios report, sources claim that TV producers for Carlson began sifting through the footage last week on Capitol Hill.

Carlson told Axios:
"There was never any legitimate reason for this footage to remain secret. If there was ever a question that's in the public's interest to know, it's what actually happened on January 6."
On January 6, 2021, a crowd entered the U.S. Capitol, disrupting lawmakers meeting to certify President Joe Biden's 2020 election victory. Previous reports said that cameras in and around the Capitol captured more than 14,000 hours of footage between noon and 8 p.m. that day, according to the Capitol Police. However, Axios reported nearly 30,000 more hours of footage exist.

Carlson said:
"By definition, this video will reveal it. It's impossible for me to understand why any honest person would be bothered by that."
A FOX News spokesperson confirmed the Axios report to The Daily Wire.

Comment: Grab your popcorn. This could get interesting if allowed to proceed without bias and censorship.
Earlier this month, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy promised to release all the footage of the January 6 riot at the Capitol to the public.

McCarthy said of the footage.
"I watched what Nancy Pelosi did, where she politicized it. For the first time in the history — as a speaker — not allowing the minority to appoint to a committee. We watched the politicization of this. Carlson TV producers were on Capitol Hill last week to begin digging through the trove, which includes multiple camera angles from all over Capitol grounds. Excerpts will begin airing in the coming weeks."
Carlson has been a massive skeptic of the Democrat's claims surrounding the January 6 riot and he's spent a good deal of time addressing the holes in the left's narratives surrounding the event. This has naturally been met with fury and derision by mainstream news outlets and leftist organizations like the ADL.

To be sure, the Democrats have attempted to use the January 6 riot as a political tool to paint Republicans as insurrectionists and people who question Democrat narratives as "truthers." All of this while developing narratives around select pieces of footage.

Former US President Donald Trump has blamed "warmongers and 'America Last' globalists" at the State Department for pushing Ukraine toward conflict. Trump, who is running for president in 2024, promised to rid Washington of "warmongers, frauds and failures" if re-elected.

In a campaign video released on Tuesday, Trump warned that "World War III has never been closer than it is right now," and laid the blame on "all the warmongers and 'America Last' globalists in the Deep State, the Pentagon, the State Department and the national security industrial complex."

The former president singled out Victoria Nuland, the US deputy secretary of state for political affairs, who he said was "obsessed with pushing Ukraine towards NATO."

House GOP locates emails, text showing Pelosi office directly involved in failed Jan. 6 security

House Republicans gathered a trove of text and email messages showing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office was directly involved in the creation and editing of the Capitol security plan that failed during the Jan. 6, 2021 riot and that security officials later declared they had been "denied again and again" the resources needed to protect one of the nation's most important homes of democracy.

The internal communications were made public Wednesday in a report compiled by Republican Reps. Rodney Davis, Jim Banks, Troy Nehls, Jim Jordan and Kelly Armstrong that encompasses the results of months of investigation they did of evidence that had been ignored by the Democrat-led Jan. 6 committee. The lawmakers were authorized by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy to do their own probe.

The report concludes the Capitol was left vulnerable on Jan. 6 as a result of failures by the Democratic leadership in the House and law enforcement leaders in the Capitol Police who allowed concerns about the "optics" of having armed officers and National Guardsmen visible to the public to override the need for enhanced security.
"Leadership and law enforcement failures within the U.S. Capitol left the complex vulnerable on January 6, 2021. The Democrat-led investigation in the House of Representatives, however, has disregarded those institutional failings that exposed the Capitol to violence that day."

Serbia's military industry has ramped up production of weapons and ammunition to keep up with skyrocketing demand driven by the conflict in Ukraine, President Aleksandar Vucic said on Tuesday. Visiting the IDEX weapons fair in UAE, Vucic said the world is preparing for war.

"Everyone needs ammunition. Everyone is buying everything, anything we can make gets sold," Vucic said. "I don't know how some of this stuff hasn't ended up on the battlefields of Ukraine yet."

Demand for things like rockets for 'Grad' multiple launcher systems has gone up by 70%, the Serbian president added, noting that Belgrade is looking to expand some of its ammunition production, since it's all spoken for.

"Ammunition is selling like hotcakes," Vucic said.

Moscow ambassador to the UN: Destruction of Nord Stream pipelines must be addressed to avoid 'chaos' on the high seas

Vassily Nebenzia

The destruction of Nord Stream pipelines was an act of international terrorism and needs to be addressed to avoid "chaos" on the high seas, Moscow's ambassador to the UN, Vassily Nebenzia, told the UN Security Council on Tuesday. Russia has accused Germany, Sweden and Denmark of a cover-up to shield the US, and said it would only trust a UN investigation.

The two pipelines carrying Russian natural gas to Germany under the Baltic Sea were damaged by a series of blasts in September 2022. While Moscow has stopped short of openly accusing the US of carrying out the bombing, journalist Seymour Hersh did just that in an article published earlier this month.

Nebenzia referred to Hersh's article and statements by multiple US officials threatening the pipeline - from president Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken, to "godmother of the anti-constitutional coup in Ukraine," Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland. He also brought up the infamous tweet by former Polish foreign minister Radek Sikorski and an alleged text by Liz Truss, the UK prime minister at the time - all suggesting the US and its allies had the motive, as well as means and opportunity, to destroy Nord Stream.

By skipping Ohio to visit Kiev, Biden handed Trump a massive political win

ohio train derailment toxic fumes fire
© AP Photo/Gene J. PuskaAuthorities released toxic chemicals from the derailed tanker car in eastern Ohio.
It's been weeks since the Ohio train derailment that took place on February 3rd, triggering the evacuation of the town of East Palestine and creating an environmental disaster. The situation has been met with virtual radio silence from Democrats. US Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg didn't publicly address the issue until February 14th while a week later President Joe Biden made a surprise visit to Kiev, on February 20th, to ramp up support for Ukraine's war effort, announcing $500 million in new military aid to the country.

While the ruling Democratic Party is outright ignoring the derailment, contaminated water, air, and soil, they are continuing to give money and weapons hand over fist to the Ukrainian government. This has provided an opportunity for the Republican Party to paint themselves as heroes to the average American. Former president and current presidential candidate Donald Trump announced that he will visit the devastated town on February 22nd.

East Palestine Mayor Trent Conaway called Biden's Ukraine trip the "biggest slap in the face." He told Fox News that this "tells you right now, he doesn't care about us." He added that Biden "can send every agency he wants to but I found out this morning in one of the briefings that he was in the Ukraine giving millions of dollars away to people over there, not to us and I'm furious."

Comment: The American people have come second to the geopolitical games globalist leaders have been playing across the world for many years now. Biden's snubbing of East Palestine to visit Ukraine is just the latest instance of the ruling class in Washington revealing how little they care about America and its disposable deplorables people.

Putin's 'civilizational' speech frames conflict between east and west

putin

In his Federal Assembly address, President Putin emphasized that Russia is not only an independent nation-state but also a distinct civilization with its own identity, which is in conflict and actively opposes the values of 'western civilization.'

Russian President Vladimir Putin's much awaited address to the Russian Federal Assembly on Tuesday should be interpreted as a tour de force of sovereignty.

The address, significantly, marked the first anniversary of Russia's official recognition of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, only a few hours before 22 February, 2022. In myriad ways, what happened a year ago also marked the birth of the real, 21st century multipolar world.

Then two days later, Moscow launched the Special Military Operation (SMO) in Ukraine to defend said republics.

Cool, calm, collected, without a hint of aggression, Putin's speech painted Russia as an ancient, independent, and quite distinct civilization - sometimes following a path in concert with other civilizations, sometimes in divergence.

China presents paper detailing way to achieve world peace

Beijing has issued a landmark document to explain in detail its proposed Global Security Initiative, a move that diplomats and experts said will help the world better understand China's approach to building world peace through coordinated efforts between countries.

"The Global Security Initiative Concept Paper" was released on Tuesday at a Lanting Forum event hosted by the Foreign Ministry in Beijing.

The initiative was proposed by President Xi Jinping in April last year. Currently, over 80 countries and regional organizations have endorsed or supported the initiative, Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said on Tuesday.

The paper elaborated on Beijing's holistic thinking on the initiative's background, core beliefs and principles and priorities for cooperation as well as platforms and mechanisms to serve such collaboration.

Comment: Previous to publication of the paper, Global Times offered some highlights
[...] China will reiterate that a nuclear war must never be fought and cannot be won, Wang said, adding that China also urges efforts to ensure the security of civil nuclear facilities, stands against attacking nuclear power plants, and will advocate joint efforts to oppose to the use of biochemical weapons.

The more complex the situation, the greater the need to remain cool-headed and pragmatic, Wang said, stressing that China is willing to join hands with all parties to continue the efforts for realizing peace at an early date.

The document will highlight China's active role in pushing for a peaceful settlement that hopefully will bring an end to the conflict [in Ukraine] which has been dragging on for a year, Wang Huiyao, president of nongovernment think tank the Center for China and Globalization, who is also attending the Munich Security Conference, told the Global Times.

Currently, it is difficult for all parties involved in the conflict to reach a consensus, but this conflict is wrecking havoc on the world, said Zhang Hong, an associate research fellow at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. He noted that China's proposals at the Munich Security Conference, as well as the about to be published document, tells the world that "China has been actively seeking a solution for the crisis. We are trying to bringing relevant parties to the negotiation table, and China is not sitting idle."

[...]

China always stands alongside peace and dialogue, and push for peace talks. "We don't want to see a prolonged and enlarged Ukraine crisis, and along with the international community, we're willing to prevent the situation from further escalating, Wang Yi noted, according to a readout released by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday.

[...] China and Ukraine have maintained communication the whole year, and Ukraine attaches great importance to China's international status and influence, takes seriously China's stance on solving the crisis via political ways, and is looking forward to China's constructive role.

[...]

Bilateral relations between China and Russia are within the sovereignty of two independent countries, and that we never accept US finger-pointing or pressure on China-Russia relation. The US, as a big country, should rationally promote political solution of the crisis, not add fire to the fuel and seek benefits from the conflict, said Wang.

"The US doesn't really care about if the crisis will be ended in peace or not. It so badly wants Russia to lose that it doesn't care whether such wish will be at cost of Ukrainian people's lives," said Zhang, comparing the crisis to a wound on the arm, "China's proposed solution is put some Chinese medicine to heal the bleeding wound, whilst the US wants to cut off the whole arm."
President Xi himself will also emphasize China's position in a speech to be given on February 24:
China's President Xi Jinping will deliver a 'peace speech' on the anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Italy's foreign minister said on Friday, citing top diplomat Wang Yi.

Wang Yi "told me that Xi will deliver a peace speech on the anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine" on February 24, 2022, Minister Antonio Tajani told Italian radio RAI, the day after he met the top Chinese diplomat in Rome.

Tajani said that in the meeting with Wang Yi, he called for China to use all its powers to persuade Russia to sit at the peace table to ensure Ukraine's independence and bring the war to an end.

Asked about Italy's partnership in China's Belt and Road Initiative trade project, Tajani said Rome was assessing the issue and would decide what to do "at the appropriate time."

Italy, in 2019, became the first major industrialized nation to sign up for the initiative - a colossal project designed to improve Beijing's trade reach.

Little has so far come of the pact, signed during a state visit to Italy by Xi Jinping.
No doubt due to pressure from Washington. Heaven forbid one of the vassals actually becomes independently prosperous.
