When illustrious leaders of the opposition cannot define what a woman is, you've got to ask yourself, what the hell is going on?

Why is all this overrated, X-rated smut being peddled from every direction?

Have we really flooded school libraries with homoerotic books aimed at 6 year-olds?

Whose idea was it to enshrine drag queen-story hour as a rite of passage?

And since when was it acceptable for creeps with schoolgirl fetishes to have unsupervised, intimate conversations with our kids?

In any other time, it would be named indecent exposure or worse grooming. But not today. Self-indulgent narcissism is the gold standard of self-expression. The conversations people ought to be having with their therapist have become prime time debating points. It's another day another carnivalesque parade of blokes in frocks swanning around social media, the creepier and more degenerate the content the more of an inalienable right it is to rub your nose in it. For as long as their entitlements are upheld, all others are scattered to the wind. It's no longer women and children first but every licentious adult male with a fetish in need of validation.

With hostilities once again erupting between Israeli forces and Palestine, onlookers must keep in mind the greater agenda in which the current violence is playing out and the stated agenda of achieving hegemony over the Middle East in which Israel plays a pivotal role - as the "unilateral aggressor."

FOB Israel

Of course, Israel does nothing unilaterally. It is a stunted, militaristic faux-state that depends entirely on the West for its continued existence. From the funds it builds its military with, to the very hardware it buys and maintains, starting from the day the modern state of Israel was founded up to and including today, Israel is in reality a state-sized forward operating base (FOB). Wikipedia defines a FOB as follows:
"The base may be used for an extended period of time. FOBs are traditionally supported by Main Operating Bases that are required to provide backup support to them.[citation needed] An FOB also improves reaction time to local areas as opposed to having all troops on the main operating base."

Flashback Best of the Web: How Bulgarian weapons were exported to Ukraine between 2019 & 2021

bulgaria weapons ukraine
51,000 pcs. of RLV-HEF rounds, manufactured by the Bulgarian arms factory Arsenal, were exported to Ukraine by the Polish company Arm Techsp. Zo.O., in 2021
Documents reveal that tons of Bulgarian weapons were exported to Ukraine via Poland and the Czech Republic in 2021 and 2020. Bulgaria officially denies that Bulgarian weapons were exported to Ukraine, although the use of Bulgarian weapons was well documented on the front line in Ukraine.

Weapons originating from the Balkans are often seen in war zones including in the hands of terrorists in Syria and Yemen. Although local governments have always denied such exports documents prove otherwise.

Weapons from the Balkans have been used for years for illicit arms supplies to war zones around the world. Documents revealed that 350 diplomatic flights carried weapons to terrorists in Syria. Leaked documents also exposed a secret US Special Operations Command unit code named Task Force Smoking Gun. It had been deployed in Croatia since 2017 and tasked with diverting tons of arms and ammunition from Europe to Syria.

Comment: Calls to supply the neo-Nazi aligned military in Ukraine is no longer kept under wraps, with one (rather dodgy looking) UK MP attempting to shame other countries for not joining in with their warmongering:

Best of the Web: Israel "in state of war" with Hamas after Palestinian militants launch "unprecedented" incursion into Israel - UPDATES

Hamas

Palestinian militants on Saturday morning launched an "unprecedented" infiltration attack on Israel, the biggest in years, sending fighters over the border from Gaza, firing thousands of rockets and killing dozens of Israelis. In response, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered a call-up of reservists and said "we are at war."

Comment: Updates from RT:

Israeli jets strike back at Gaza:
Dozens of Israeli jets have struck Hamas targets in Gaza, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have said. The airstrikes were launched in response to a surprise attack unleashed by the Palestinian armed group against Israel on Saturday morning.

IDF spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said "Hamas terrorists" had infiltrated the Israeli territory from land, sea and air.

More than 2,200 rockets have been fired from Gaza, according to the spokesman. Hamas claimed that it used more than 5,000 projectiles in just the first 20 minutes of its attack.

Rocket sirens have been heard in many places across Israel, including Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Beersheba, and Ashkelon.

There were at least seven instances of fighting between IDF troops and Hamas militants, Hagari said.
Tehran proclaims its support for the Hamas attack:
A top adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has offered his "congratulations" to the Palestinian militants who launched a surprise attack on Israeli territory on Saturday, according to the semi-official Iranian news organization ISNA.

"We congratulate the Palestinian fighters," Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi said, according to the news source, promising that Tehran "will stand by their side until the liberation of Palestine and Holy Jerusalem."

Speaking in the Iranian capital of Tehran at the 6th International Conference on Solidarity with Palestinian Children and Adolescents on Saturday, Safavi also said that "we support the Al-Aqsa Storm operation."

[...]

Iran has long maintained public support for the Palestinian militant group, principally due to a shared hostility towards Israel. It has been claimed that Iran provided Hamas with financial and political support, as well as weapons and technology, to bolster its arsenal of long-range weapons capable of striking deep into Israeli territory.

Iran has not directly revealed the nature of its support for Hamas. Israeli intelligence has determined that previous attacks by the group in Israel have occurred without Iranian knowledge or involvement.
The Arab states appear to have been caught offguard by the action and call for 'restraint':
A number of Arab states have called for "restraint" and a de-escalation of violence following the launch of the largest attack in years on Israeli territory early on Saturday morning.

Qatar, a Gulf state that does not have diplomatic relations with Israel, issued a statement through its foreign ministry on Saturday in which it said that the ultimate responsibility for the so-called 'Al-Aqsa Storm' operation conducted by Hamas lies with the Israeli government.

Doha added in its statement its desire for both sides in the conflict to exercise restraint, and called on the international community to ensure that Israel does not use the event as an excuse for a "disproportionate" response against Palestinians in Gaza.

Saudi Arabia, another state that does not currently have formal ties with Israel, also released a statement on X (formerly Twitter) to say that it was "closely following up on the unprecedented developments" between "Palestinian factions and the Israeli occupation forces."

The Saudi foreign ministry also said it had repeatedly "warned of the dangers" that might occur "as a result of the continued occupation" and for "depriving the Palestinian people of their legitimate rights."

In recent weeks, the leadership of both Saudi Arabia and Israel have signaled a desire to normalize relations, with the United States understood to be actively negotiating the details. Earlier this week, Hamas expressed its "unwavering position of rejecting all forms of normalization and contact with the Israeli occupation."
Russia and Ukraine weigh in:
Russia and Ukraine, which have been locked in a major conflict for more than a year and a half, have reacted to the escalation of hostilities between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas.

On Saturday, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov urged both sides of the conflict to cease hostilities immediately. Russia's stance on the latest Israel-Palestine escalation was further explained by the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, who released a special statement on the matter.

"We call on the Palestinian and Israeli sides for an immediate ceasefire, renunciation of violence, exercising necessary restraint, and the launch, with the assistance of the international community, of a negotiation process aimed at establishing a comprehensive, lasting, and much-awaited peace in the Middle East," Zakharova said.

The escalation in the region is yet another manifestation of the "closed cycle of violence," the spokeswoman noted, adding that Russia believes the 75-year-long conflict cannot be solved through military means. The flare-up is a "result of a chronic failure to comply with relevant UN and Security Council resolutions," as well as a derailment of the peace process by the collective West, Zakharova explained.

Meanwhile, Kiev proclaimed its full support for Israel, denouncing Hamas as "terrorists."

"Ukraine strongly condemns the ongoing terrorist attacks against Israel, including rocket attacks against the civilian population in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. We express our support for Israel in its right to defend itself and its people," the Ukrainian foreign minister wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

This stance was amplified by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, who took to Telegram to urge the "whole world" to support Israel in its fight against Palestinians.

"Horrible reports from Israel. My condolences to everyone whose family and friends died in the terrorist attack ... Israel's right to defense is beyond any doubt," Zelensky stated.

Footage of the battle and mopping up of a populated area by the Israeli army has been published. The second video was commented on by Alexander Khodakovsky, deputy chief of the Rosgvardiya for the DNR.

"The footage shows Israeli special forces working to clear the populated area of militants. I have never seen more incompetent work.

If the level of training of the rest of the Israeli army is comparable to what we see on the video - Israel is in for a difficult task.

Too much time has passed since the Six-Day War - it will have to learn how to fight again. And yes: the grilles on the tanks better be welded on."

Best of the Web: Shallow magnitude 6.3 earthquake kills at least 2,000 in west Afghanistan - aftershock of equal magnitude (UPDATES)

nnnn
A magnitude 6.3 earthquake hit western Afghanistan on Saturday causing one death and dozens of injuries, officials said, predicting the toll could rise amid reports of landslides and building collapses.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the epicentre was 40 kilometres (25 miles) northwest of the region's largest city of Herat, and was followed by five aftershocks with magnitudes of 5.5, 4.7, 6.3, 5.9 and 4.6.

Crowds of residents and shopkeepers fled buildings in the city at around 11am (6:30am GMT) as the quakes began, causing 25 injuries and a single fatality, according to a Taliban government spokesman.

"We were in our offices and suddenly the building started shaking," 45-year-old Herat resident Bashir Ahmad told AFP.

Comment: Update

Anadolu Ajansı reports:
At least 1,000 dead and injured in Afghanistan earthquake

At least 1,000 people were killed and injured in a series of earthquakes that hit the northwestern part of Afghanistan on Saturday, officials said.

Afghanistan Disaster Management Authority's spokesman Mullah Janan Saiq said the death toll could further rise, adding that the tremors caused heavy damage in northwestern Herat and Badghis provinces.

"Three villages in Herat province were completely destroyed, hundreds of people are still trapped under the debris," Saiq told Anadolu over the phone.

He added that it was difficult to find the exact number of casualties, but so far the figure of 1,000 was reported by local officials.

According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), strong earthquakes of magnitude 5.5, 5.9, and 6.2 jolted the Afghan provinces. It said the epicenter was 40 kilometers (24.8 miles) northwest of Herat city.

The World Health Organization's Afghanistan office said its teams were in hospitals assisting treatment of wounded and assessing additional needs.
Update October 8

Al Jazeera reports:
Afghanistan earthquake death toll rises to 2,000: Taliban officials

The death toll from powerful earthquakes in western Afghanistan has crossed 2,000, a senior Taliban leader said, adding the number might rise further in one of the deadliest quakes to hit the country in two decades.

Suhail Shaheen, the Taliban spokesperson based in Qatar, told Al Jazeera that many people were missing and rescue operations were under way to save people trapped under the rubble in the wake of a magnitude 6.3 earthquake in Herat province.

Shaheen said there was an urgent need for tents, medical and food items in the areas hit by the disaster, as he appealed to local businessmen and NGOs to come forward to help people in need.

On Sunday, people attempted to dig out the dead and injured with their hands in Herat, clambering over rocks and debris. Survivors and victims were trapped under buildings that had crumbled to the ground, their faces grey with dust.

One video, shared online, shows people freeing a baby girl from a collapsed building after being buried up to her neck in debris. A hand is seen cradling the baby's torso as rescuers ease the child out of the ground. Rescuers said it was the baby's mother. It is not clear if the mother survived.

"Besides the 2,060 dead, 1,240 people are injured and 1,320 houses are completely destroyed," said Abdul Wahid Rayan, spokesperson at the Ministry of Information and Culture.

About six villages have been destroyed and hundreds of civilians have been buried under the debris, he said, calling for urgent help.

The magnitude 6.3 earthquake hit 40km (24 miles) northwest of the city of Herat at about 11am on Saturday (06:30 GMT), according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Strong aftershocks were felt in the neighbouring Badghis and Farah provinces.

A rescue volunteer, who did not want to be named, from Zenda Jan - the worst affected district located in Herat - said the search and rescue teams were not properly trained and lacked modern equipment.

"Unfortunately we have lost a lot of people in west of Herat in Zenda Jan and Ghorian districts," he said.

"The tragedy is very huge, we cannot define it to you in simple words. People are still trapped in the debris, they are alive, but we cannot reach them."

He urged the UN and other international organisations to provide Afghans with trained search and rescue teams, with modern equipment and rescue dogs to help find those still trapped inside.

There was a whiff of Thomas Mann's 'The Magic Mountain' at the 20th Valdai annual meeting this week at a hotel over the gorgeous heights of the Krasnaya Polyana. north-west of the picturesque resort Sochi.

But instead of a deep dive into the lure and degeneracy of ideas in an introverted community in the Swiss Alps on the eve of the First World War, we immersed ourselves in powerful new ideas expressed by a community of Global Majority intellectuals on the possible eve of a psycho neocon-intended WWIII.

And then, of course, President Putin intervened, striking the plenary session like lightning.

Best of the Web: Study finds Covid vaccines damage ALL hearts

graphic covid heart damage
Radiology tests detect myocardial damage in Covid-vaccinated persons

A new scientific study by Nakahara et al. tested Covid-vaccinated people to see if they have "silent" changes in heart muscle function that standard radiology tests could detect. The study shows very unsettling results.

Scientists measured myocardial 18Fluorine-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) uptake. F-FDG has molecular similarity to glucose. However, 18F-FDG does not metabolise like glucose. Therefore, PET scans could detect it, and its presence shows the heart muscle's abnormally high demand for glucose, indicative of abnormal cardiac function. More about it here.

Best of the Web: The illusions of abstract philosophy: Thought is never deep

Lives of Eminent Philosophers
Lives of Eminent Philosophers
This is a lightly adapted extract from Self and Unself, The Meaning of Everything.1

You can listen to a discussion around some of the themes of this book with James de Lys of the Hermitix podcast — recorded a few weeks ago, but released today — here.
Abstract philosophy is the exclusive use of the thinking mind to find truth. This doesn't just mean working out problems in the head, but also perceiving abstractly; seeing and hearing the world divided up into concepts, filtered through the 'screen' of the thinking mind, and assuming that this divided representation is the world. This activity is so common that you'd be forgiven for thinking that the world it presents is reality, just as you'd be forgiven for thinking that all reasoning about it is philosophy.

Abstract thinking about abstract experience is the only thing that happens in universities and just about the only thing you'll find in the philosophy section of a bookshop or library. When people use the word 'deep', they're usually thinking of the kind of difficult ideas that abstract philosophers talk about. Not that anyone really knows what abstract philosophers talk about, because what they say is extremely boring, absurdly difficult, irrelevant to ordinary life or outrageously self-absorbed, so nobody pays any attention to it.

Best of the Web: Argentinian ski resort buried with spring snow - 8.2 FEET in 24 hours

nnnnnnn
Las Leñas, Argentina, finds itself grappling with a staggering meteorological surprise today. The initial forecast projected a colossal one meter of snowfall within 24 hours, but the actual accumulation remains uncertain due to the nearly impassable conditions for measurement.

An official report eventually emerged, revealing that the base received a formidable one-meter snow deposit, while the summit was inundated with an astonishing 2.5 meters of snow. However, despite this awe-inspiring snowfall, the eagerly anticipated moment when enthusiasts can hit the slopes remains uncertain.

The reason lies in the sky-high avalanche danger that these extraordinary conditions have generated, underscoring the awe-inspiring power of nature's fury.

Right and left as neural net

There's been a lot of discussion recently over the principle of NETTR - No Enemies To The Right. This is an idea that has been kicking around in right wing circles for about a decade now, originating with the observation that Western political discourse has for generations been characterized by a fundamental asymmetry: the centre-left typically does not criticize the radical left on moral grounds, framing their excesses as originating from well-meaning enthusiasm, whereas the centre-right actively distances itself from the right's own radical fringe on moral grounds, describing them as a Nazis, fascists, racists, or what have you, and insisting that 'we're not like those bad people.' The result has been the steady left-ward drift of the ship of culture, within which the acceptable bounds of political discourse are, at any given time, bounded by the centre-right and the radical left, with the centre continuously getting pulled towards the left.

Thus, the dissident right reasoned, the right should adopt the same principle: tactical critiques are fine, but never criticize those to your right on moral grounds. In other words, it's legitimate to say 'don't do that, it's stupid', but it is illegitimate to say 'don't believe that, it's too right-wing and that means you're a bad person'.
