Best of the Web: '42 knees in one day': Israeli snipers open up about shooting Gaza protesters

I know exactly how many knees I've hit, says Eden, who completed his service in the Israel Defense Forces as a sniper in its Golani infantry brigade six months ago. For much of the time, he was stationed along the border with the Gaza Strip. His assignment: to repel Palestinian demonstrators who approached the fence.

"I kept the casing of every round I fired," he says. "I have them in my room. So I don't have to make an estimate - I know: 52 definite hits."

But there are also "non-definite" hits, right?

"There were incidents when the bullet didn't stop and also hit the knee of someone behind [the one I aimed at]. Those are mistakes that happen."

Best of the Web: Two years later, the Skripal saga remains weirder than ever

Sluฤaj Skripal
While navigating through today's propaganda-heavy world of misinformation, spin and outright creative writing which appears to have replaced conventional journalism, it is most important that two qualities are active in the mind of any truth-seeker. The first quality is the adherence to a strong top down perspective, both historic and global. This is vital in order to guide us as a sort of compass or North Star used by sailors navigating across the ocean. The second quality is a strong power of logic, memory and discernment of wheat vs. chaff to process the mountains of data that slaps us in the face from all directions like sand in a desert storm.

As the second anniversary of the poisoning of Sergei and Yulia Skripal has arrived, it is a useful time to take these qualities and revisit this bizarre moment of modern history which took place on a park bench in Salisbury UK and which led to one of the greatest frauds of the modern era derailing all attempts to repair relations between Russia and the west.

To do this, I decided to plunge myself into a new book called Skripal in Prison written by Moscow-based journalist John Helmer and published in February 2020.

This incredible little book, which features 26 chapters written between March 2018 to February 2020 originally published on the author's site Dances with Bears, unveils an arsenal of intellectual bullets which Helmer skillfully uses to shoot holes into every inconsistency, contradiction and outright lie holding up the structure of the narrative that "there is no alternative conclusion other than that the Russian State was culpable for the attempted murder of Mr. Skripal and his daughter". This line was asserted without a shred of actual evidence by Theresa May in the House of Commons on March 16, 2018 and in the months that followed, western nations were pressured to expel Russian diplomats (23 in Britain, 60 in the US, 33 across the EU), close down consulates (one Russian consulate in San Francisco and one American consulate in St Petersburg) and impose waves of sanctions against Russia.

Best of the Web: "This is surreal, it's like living in a movie" - Inside the Italian Coronavirus lockdown, where the infected are treated like the plague

coronavirus italy
© Keystone / Andrea FasaniA man in Casalpusterlengo, one the northern Italian towns placed under lockdown, and not far from the Swiss border
Quarantined Italian towns are buckling under the strain, major cities are emptying out and some of those infected say they are being stigmatised as Europe's worst outbreak of coronavirus takes hold.

Comment: Stigmatization?! If that's even the word. New Yorkers were beating up Chinese-looking people 6 weeks ago. Fights are breaking out on Japanese streets over face masks. Police manhunts are underway in most countries for escaped 'positive cases'. Large swathes of people globally have absolutely lost their marbles over this.

As of Thursday night, 3,916 cases had been detected as Italy aggressively tests for the virus. Out of that number, 197 people have died.

Comment: As old, sick people do every year from the flu.

Eleven towns are under lockdown - 10 in Lombardy and one in Veneto - and schools have been closed across the country as the government tries to contain a virus about which there are still many unknowns.

Comment: The understatement of the year! For starters, it's as clear as mud just how many people already 'have' it. We're thinking it's way more than officially claimed, which significantly dents the mortality rate.

Stories that have emerged since the outbreak began reflect the contrasting nature of the virus's impact, from the reassuring accounts of people cured to the suffering of those who have died or are in a critical condition. The heavily pregnant wife of "patient one", the 38-year-old man who was Italy's first confirmed locally transmitted case, was dismissed from hospital on Thursday; her husband, a marathon runner and amateur footballer, remains in intensive care.

Comment: What a barmy spectacle this has all been. We blame the media, but only partially. It's just doing what it always does, selling newspapers - attracting clicks, these days. Besides the impetus from governments, international bodies and Big Pharma, public figures of every hue - including those usually critical of mass media - have been harping on since the very beginning in early January about how what is essentially just another round of flu is in fact 'The Plague'.

Then, when governments gradually, tentatively roll out quarantine and testing measures, they rant about 'muh freedoms' and 'kommie-ism'. Hang on a minute! YOU actively co-created this mess. YOU helped bring this hysteria and government control down on everybody's heads. YOU are participants in this, not observers or - with a few exceptions - critics.

The thing is; the hysteria-mongers are - unwittingly - correct. 'We' are all pro-actively dooming each other because the species mass unconscious knows, at some level, that 'we' are all doomed. Self-isolation is, in some respects, the way to go from here on out. The masses, especially in larger urban areas - after two decades of spooking them with false-flag terrorism, combined with the increasingly extreme planetary and cosmic weather - are a freaky, freaked-out herd, and you do not want to be around that when a pandemic takes off for real.

If you're wondering what makes us so 'chill' about all this, it's because we've seen this coming for many years. The population is gradually being weakened by crap diet, EM smog, propaganda, and terrible health advice (not least dangerous, untested vaccines). Because of this, we will not be surprised when what might otherwise be just another innocuous 'seasonal flu' comes around and wipes out much of the population. This Coronavirus aint it, but you can be sure that the vaccines they push as a result of it will do their part to contribute to, down the road, an actual pandemic.

In the meantime, we've been strengthening our resistance to viruses - of both the biological and psychological kinds - by optimizing our diet, expanding our knowledge base, and applying EM counter-measures. Together with 'communing with like minds' and networking about issues and events, thereby disentangling from the frequency fence that corrals the wider body politic, this all serves to build faith and resilience against whatever's coming down the pipeline...

Best of the Web: Stop calling it a "stutter": Here are dozens of examples of Biden's dementia symptoms

biden alzheimer's
It's very bizarre and dissonant how there are currently two separate and non-overlapping lines of criticism going on against the campaign of establishment-anointed Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden. There are the perfectly accurate criticisms regarding the right-wing, militaristic policy positions of the politician Joe Biden used to be, and then there are the equally accurate criticisms of Biden's handlers and Democratic Party leadership for wheeling out the dementia-addled husk of a man he currently is to run for the world's most powerful elected office.

These two debates do not interweave, because they are not relevant to one another. It doesn't matter what political positions a dementia victim once had; what matters is taking care of him and keeping him away from hazards, like sharp objects and nuclear launch codes. It's impossible to know what actual political convictions still remain held within a mind that can no longer lucidly string thoughts together anyway.

I hate doing this. I hate repeatedly writing about the obvious and undeniable fact that an old man is exhibiting obvious and undeniable symptoms of incipient dementia. It isn't fun, and it doesn't feel good. But the alternative is laying down and allowing the Democratic party and its allied media to gaslight people into believing it's not a thing, as they are doing currently.

Comment: With the extensive (probably not exhaustive) list above, the fact that Biden supporters are trying to pass this off as a 'stutter' is jaw-dropping. The man clearly has a cognitive issue; glaringly obvious when one compares his recent gaffes to how articulate he was only a few short years ago. This man is not fit for office, and the fact that they've hauled him out as the favored candidate makes it increasingly likely that, in order to prevent Bernie from becoming president, the DNC is willing to sacrifice the presidency.

Best of the Web: Low-carb diet could boost brain health, study finds

low carb steak
A diet low in carbohydrates could stave off, or even reverse, the effects of aging on the brain, Stony Brook-led research finds.

A study using neuroimaging led by Stony Brook University professor and lead author Lilianne R. Mujica-Parodi, PhD, and published in PNAS, reveals that neurobiological changes associated with aging can be seen at a much younger age than would be expected, in the late 40s. But the study also suggests that this process may be prevented or reversed based on dietary changes that involve minimizing the consumption of simple carbohydrates.

Even in younger adults, under age 50, dietary ketosis (whether achieved after one week of dietary change or 30 minutes after drinking ketones) increased overall brain activity and stabilized functional networks.

Comment: This is the type of research we need more of. Rather than just presuming there to be dangers in low carb diets or doing pseudostudies that call full carbohydrate diets 'low carb', these researchers are legitimately testing the diet in a controlled setting to find out the actual truth of the matter. Bravo.

Best of the Web: Iraq's Hezbollah accuses high-ranking officials of working with US to assassinate Qassem Soleimani

Comment: Although the following claim is that it was the Iraqis who colluded with the Americans to off Soleimani, it's hard to imagine this happening without the Iranians knowing...

Kata'ib Hezbollah in Iraq hinted at the involvement of high-ranking officials in the assassination of the commander of the Quds Force, Major-General Qassem Soleimani, and the deputy commander of the Popular Mobilization Forces, Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, on January 3rd.

In a statement, Kata'ib Hezbollah accused "one of the ministers in Iraq with the intelligence chief of assisting in the killing of Soleimani and Al-Mohandis," and expressed its readiness to provide evidence to the former prime minister, Adel Abdul-Mahdi, exclusively.

They said in statement posted on their official website, "There is no doubt that Al-Kazemi (intelligence chief) was involved in the killing of the leaders," adding that "this historical crime was done with the knowledge of one of the three ministers that facilitated this cowardly act."

Comment: Kata'ib Hezbollah's suspicions are well-founded. Iran's response to the assassination was very... 'stage-managed', shall we say: much fiery rhetoric but not much in the way of a surprise counter-attack against the US. It remains to be seen what if any evidence this organization will present to the former Iraqi PM and perhaps make public, but in the meantime, we note that the issue has become very quiet since the world apparently stood 'on the brink of WW3' back in early January. Additionally, the Iranians have said nada about the downing of the Ukraine Airlines plane, which seemed pretty obviously, to us, to have been the result of its air defense system being tricked into doing so.

It's as if the Iranian leadership just wanted it all to... die down and go away.

Best of the Web: "People have just gone nuts": Wealthy NY suburb gripped by hysteria after local family diagnosed with Covid-19

hospital
New Rochelle, NY is offering the rest of America a glimpse into what happens once Covid-19 has arrived in your home town.

New York Times reporter Sarah Maslin Nir visited New Rochelle yesterday and started reporting. She wandered around the mostly deserted down town, talking to restaurant workers and a handful of patrons brave enough to defy the rumors.

By Wednesday evening, it had become clear that the virus was spreading in the community: Gov. Andrew Cuomo had confirmed that the man's wife son and daughter had all tested positive for the virus, as did a neighbor who drove him to the hospital last week. And just a few minutes ago, Cuomo confirmed the number of cases in the state had risen to 11, with ten of those 11 cases in Westchester.

Flashback Best of the Web: CDC admits number of 'swine flu' cases overestimated because they stopped testing for H1N1 virus and began guessing numbers

Comment: Today's 'coronavirus pandemic' is recent history repeating. The following report came out as hysteria surrounding the 2009 'Swine Flu Pandemic' began to taper off...

h1n1 swine flu vaccines
Have YOU had your shot today?!
If you've been diagnosed "probable" or "presumed" 2009 H1N1 or "swine flu" in recent months, you may be surprised to know this: odds are you didn't have H1N1 flu.

In fact, you probably didn't have flu at all. That's according to state-by-state test results obtained in a three-month-long CBS News investigation
.

The ramifications of this finding are important. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Britain's National Health Service, once you have H1N1 flu, you're immune from future outbreaks of the same virus. Those who think they've had H1N1 flu -- but haven't -- might mistakenly presume they're immune. As a result, they might skip taking a vaccine that could help them, and expose themselves to others with H1N1 flu under the mistaken belief they won't catch it. Parents might not keep sick children home from school, mistakenly believing they've already had H1N1 flu.

Comment: Of course they didn't; they never do. It's all one-way propaganda from the top down.

'Positive' for H1N1, 'probable' for H1N1, 'negative for H1N1'... the WHO and CDC didn't care what actual medical testing took place and how accurate those results were. They just wanted to boost as many vaccines as possible and - more generally - get everyone onboard with 'doing what the nice man in the white coat - sponsored by Big Pharma - tells you'.

It's all about the vaccines - and/or other medical mafia means of implementing ever finer orders of control.

Like we said earlier in this current 'pandemic', the manufactured 'War on Terror' has nothing on manufactured 'global pandemics' when it comes to 'spooking the herd' and 'creating new facts on the ground'.

Most just 'freeze' in terror, suspend their critical faculties, and hand over more of their sovereignty to the authorities.

Best of the Web: 'Everything is China's fault': Western media excoriates China over coronavirus response, even as infection rates subside

Shanghai coronavirus
© Reuters / Aly SongResidential community in Shanghai closed for coronavirus protection.
China can do no right in its response to the coronavirus, according to western media. Even as the epidemic appears to be subsiding, Beijing is being slammed for being simultaneously too authoritarian and too weak.

Even as the Chinese government earns plaudits from the World Health Organization and epidemiology experts for its handling of the epidemic, Western media haven't let up on their criticism. Coronavirus has given them license to unleash every stereotype and wild speculation they've ever had about life in China, and they aren't about to let go of that opportunity. Accordingly, nothing Beijing does โ€” or doesn't do โ€” will be enough for the armchair critics of the American press.

Blaming Communism

CNBC has compared the government's response to coronavirus to the reaction of Soviet authorities to the 1986 nuclear accident at Chernobyl, citing US financial firm Raymond James. However, the company only wrote that it was "receiving questions on whether or not this will be a 'Chernobyl-like' event for China" in their analyst report published February 18. They didn't openly declare it had been one, though they did suggest that "if the virus becomes a true global pandemic, the actions by the Chinese leadership will come under fire as they no doubt contributed to the spread" (emphasis added).

Comment: Western media, as mouthpieces for the establishment, are making the terror of Western elites at the growing power of China all too obvious.

Best of the Web: The coronavirus is NOT as deadly as they want us to think

ambulance
© Miguel Medina/Getty ImagesA man arrives in an ambulance at a pre-triage medical tent in front of the hospital in Cremona, Italy, on Tuesday.
There are many compelling reasons to conclude that SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, is not nearly as deadly as is currently feared. But COVID-19 panic has set in nonetheless. You can't find hand sanitizer in stores, and N95 face masks are being sold online for exorbitant prices, never mind that neither is the best way to protect against the virus (yes, just wash your hands). The public is behaving as if this epidemic is the next Spanish flu, which is frankly understandable given that initial reports have staked COVID-19 mortality at about 2-3 percent, quite similar to the 1918 pandemic that killed tens of millions of people.

Allow me to be the bearer of good news. These frightening numbers are unlikely to hold. The true case fatality rate, known as CFR, of this virus is likely to be far lower than current reports suggest. Even some lower estimates, such as the 1 percent death rate recently mentioned by the directors of the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, likely substantially overstate the case.

We shouldn't be surprised that the numbers are inflated. In past epidemics, initial CFRs were floridly exaggerated. For example, in the 2009 H1N1 pandemic some early estimates were 10 times greater than the eventual CFR, of 1.28 percent. Epidemiologists think and quibble in terms of numerators and denominators โ€” which patients were included when fractional estimates were calculated, which weren't, were those decisions valid โ€” and the results change a lot as a result. We are already seeing this. In the early days of the crisis in Wuhan, China, the CFR was more than 4 percent. As the virus spread to other parts of Hubei, the number fell to 2 percent. As it spread through China, the reported CFR dropped further, to 0.2 to 0.4 percent. As testing begins to include more asymptomatic and mild cases, more realistic numbers are starting to surface. New reports from the World Health Organization that estimate the global death rate of COVID-19 to be 3.4 percent, higher than previously believed, is not cause for further panic. This number is subject to the same usual forces that we would normally expect to inaccurately embellish death rate statistics early in an epidemic. If anything, it underscores just how early we are in this.

Comment: So the MSM is dead wrong: this IS in fact less of a problem than most seasonal flu epidemics.

Fake news pushers the whole lot of them.
