Sputnik: In your view, what consequences can these sanctions have on US-Russia relations?
Joe Quinn: Russia-US relations are already at a historic low point, sanctions therefore obviously will only worsen the relationship. That said, there is a positive result from such actions by the US in that it encourages Russia to seek other, more reasonable international partners with whom to do business. This can only be good for diversifying the Russian economy and creating a stronger opposition bloc of nations that can effectively challenge the US vision of a unipolar world.
Sputnik: The move was already called hostile and baseless by some Russian officials, what is your take on that?
Joe Quinn: Well the move obviously was hostile and it was clearly baseless because it was justified by the lie told by British Foreign Minister Boris Johnson that it was known that the alleged 'nerve agent' used to poison Skripal and his daughter was made in Russia. There is no evidence that the nerve agent was produced in Russia.
This latest round of sanctions must be seen in the context of the propaganda offensive that the US and UK have been waging against Russia for several years. They are an attempt to blacken Russia's name in the minds of people and politicians around the world. But the question is, to what end? These kind of attacks point to Western nations, in particular the US and UK, viewing Russia as a serious threat to their own positions in global power politics. Of course, that view is nothing new, it's as old as the Cold War, and it's obvious at this point that the cold war never ended - at least from the Western perspective.
But it also brings up the question of what the Cold War really was about. The Cold War was defined as an existential fight against the political and economic ideology of Communism, the 'clash of civilizations' as it were. But the Soviet Union and Communism ENDED, and yet the Anglo-American attacks on Russia have not and are today more intense than ever. So do we have to rethink the entire cold war rationale? Was it never really about Communism? Events today would seem to suggest so, that there is something else about Russia and its people that troubles Western powers.
At this point Russia can easily dismiss the propaganda offensive because it is obviously nonsense, it can simply respond with the truth and that will be enough on that score. But it needs to watch carefully for the possible economic moves aimed at damaging the Russian economy that will be made using the propaganda as justification. Russia's only real options are to continue doing what it has been doing - asserting itself and expanding its influence around the world, or even increase the tempo of that because it seems that is seen as a real threat by the Anglo-American establishment.
Sputnik: Do you think there will be any countermeasures introduced by Russia in the near future?
Joe Quinn: Russia can impose similar measures against the US and the UK and any other European nation that has participated in these attacks on Russia, although it must be careful not to engage in any self-defeating moves whereby the Russian economy would suffer. In my opinion the most appropriate response from Russia would be to continue to challenge the US and British anti-Russian narrative with the truth and to continue doing what it has been doing - asserting itself and expanding its influence around the world, or even increase the tempo of that because it seems that is seen as a real threat by the Anglo-American establishment.

RevARRSHOLE's classic troll maneuvers, infra, are a simple ad hominem argument to retrack the matters discussed from the hugely important issue of a monstrously huge worldwide deception, to a NON issue, here of re those who might question 'the earth is a sphereoid' matter. Relevant Flat earth comments should be placed at those articles!
As applied, it seems intentional, on the part of RevARRSHOL to use distraction to remove proper focus from the article, I, frankly, do not question that the earth's shape but I RESENT having to type that here!

Flat Earthers finally explained
In case you missed it, a DIY rocket scientist named Mike Hughes recently launched a homemade rocket over the California desert as part of an ongoing mission to prove that the Earth is flat,...Yes - it was all BS, a fake narrative to milk taxes and keep the people cowed
"I am not convinced that the Earth is a flat plane but rather that the area we inhabit / are restricted to appears to be flat .... "Curvature is dictated by two things - shape and size .... I simply agree that there is a lack of evidence that we live on a curve equivalent to one degree per 111KM
And what a ridiculous comment from Revolucionar! -- who evidently thinks that people can fall 'of the end' of the Earth.
Why yes, dear sir or madame, the Flat Earthers think that people can fall off the edges…just like all the water has fallen off the edges, which is the why the Earth is a water-less desert.
Oh, wait…
The amount of thoughtless posturing found here is staggering.
Profound revelation? Russia has always been the final target for any aspiring ruler of the world. It's nothing personal, just a matter of startegy. You guys are truly losing your compass thinking you figured something out here. Profound revelation, what an overstatement, haha.Ah yes, 'Oceania has always been at war with Eurasia'.
I know the referrence but don't understand what you mean by it, Niall. It means that you knew all along that the Cold War was actually about defeating Russia as Russia, not Russia as 'communist'.
I would not agree with that entirely. Any country of that size in that particular location would have been the target. But yes, it was always perfectly obvious to me that it wasn't about communism. After becoming aquainted with Mackinder's geopolitical theory, all of this started to make sense.Penny for the guy.
Russia is currently the only country in the world with the strategic ability to conquer the world and it makes sense that all the other competitors want them out of the game. I don't think Russia has that as a goal, but the west certainly does want to take over the globe and Russia is simply in the way. You are trying to make this into some kind of primordial hatred of Russians and Russia, but it's just strategy, IMO.That's exactly what I've been thinking lately, in fact; that it's primordial.
Joe, I hope you get to read this - it will broaden your knowledge and understanding.
In 1947-48, Major-General Reinhard Gehlen, former head of German Army Intelligence - East, was living on the Starnberger See, south-west of Munich. Not 100 yards from my door lives a person, now 85 years old, who knew Gehlen personally and quite well. He can describe Gehlen's dogs, his housekeeper, his boat, and his house on the lake, and was a youngster in a corner of the room, unnoticed, when Gehlen was being interviewed and recruited by Colonel James Critchfield of the CIA, who worked out of Pullach, between Munich and Starnberg, to come to the USA and work for the CIA. It was maintained that Gehlen's former agents and contacts in what was then East Germany and places even further east had intimate knowledge of the Soviets, their strengths, liabilities, and intentions. Gehlen's code name was RUSTY, and the organization he formed in the USA was known as the Gehlen Organization. At one point, Gehlen was asked to list the names of all the former Nazi officials he had recruited and had had brought to the USA to assist in his Organization, and the number came to 1,054.
This is not fancy. It is all available online at the National Security Archive of George Washington University, which spends its days filing FOIA requests at the CIA and State Department.
Here is where the story goes deeper than the NSA online evidence. This I have from my neighbor, who also knew Colonel Critchfield and one of the Deputy Directors of the CIA at the time, (the man who organized the assassination of JFK.)
Having set up Gehlen, and he having assembled his cadre of former agents into the Gehlen Organization, it was discovered that his information was hopelessly dated, some of his spies were double agents working for the Soviets, and basically, the whole effort was useless. (Typical CIA.)
However, Gehlen was touted and praised as a valuable asset with fabulous sources, for one reason and one reason only: The US Military did not want to see their forces demobilized and shrunk back to prewar levels, and the Defense Industry had gotten accustomed to the excessively fat profits they had made during WWII. Gehlen was thus tasked with writing a Report, in which he was told what to write, and in which he claimed that the Soviets had 170 divisions assembled in East Germany and Russia, with thousands of tanks and tens of thousands of artillery pieces, poised to overrun Western Europe.
Some of those "divisions" consisted of five soldiers and a colonel. Most of its military hardware was worn out and inoperable. Russia had bled itself dry beating the Germans almost singlehandedly, (which to this day the former Allies refuse to admit,) it had lost over 20 million civilians and at least 10 million fighting men, its industry and agriculture was ruined due to the scorched earth policy they had employed as the Germans advanced to the gates of Moscow, thousands of entire families had perished, entire towns had been destroyed, and Russia was in no shape to begin another war. The Gehlen Report, which to this day is secret, was a work of pure fiction.
However, this secret Report was duly presented to President Truman and the Congressional Committees overseeing the military and the budget, who reacted as anticipated with fear and alarm, allocating billions of dollars (a lot of money in those days,) to rearmament to counter the fancied Soviet threat, and in this way the Cold War was launched. From 1945 to 1990, as the USA rampaged across the world assassinating heads of state and UN Secretaries General, overthrowing governments, fomenting coups, and murdering human beings en masse, [Link] - do please follow the links in that article to their sources - the Soviets reacted with justified fear and fought back at every opportunity.
Today, nothing has changed. The New Cold War is still, like the first one, all about money. Russia under Putin has reacted with supreme skill and ingenuity to the new Western onslaught, which is attempting to crush it and loot its immense resources. This onslaught is not new - it has been going on for almost 1,000 years. [Link]
So Joe, there you have a very brief synopsis of Cold Wars 1 and 2. I hope this enlightens those who have an interest in their future existence or survival, and raises the tone of the commentary to this article.
Regards, LG.
The U S Treasury is sanctioning increasing numbers of wealthy people from access to the USD area. The effect is so easily predictable it must be intentional. They will go elsewhere. Occasionally, when something is really attractive they will pay the sanctions surcharge and get it anyway.
If the Treasury was concerned for the hearts and minds of humanity it would act differently but there are a few (very few) countries in this world that do not act consensually and they have a faith in their exclusive ability to call the shots for everyone. Their qualification to claim leadership of the planet is owning the means of exchange, controlling access to news, accumulating overwhelming military power and overawing legislatures with bribes and threats from national level to United Nations.
The good news is sanctions force countries to create what is missing from their domestic economies. We have known this since Britain launched the first commercial war (against democracy in Europe and America) and provoked the response of the Continental System. Europe then invented the substitutes it could not longer buy on the international market - sugar from beets, home grown tobacco, coffee from chicory, chemical dye instead of indigo - and this is where sanctioned countries stand today.
the hugely important issue of a monstrously huge worldwide deceptionIt is a profound thought, whether one has read 1984 or not
Put it another way, the US used the prevention of communism to justify the murder of Salvador Allende and Patrice Lumumba
The same excuse was the US's justification for the wars in Korea and Vietnam
It was all hogwash ... a total scam to justify their psychotic behaviour and provide excuses for them to feed their blood lust
Nothing has changed - we see the same excuses today with drone killings and illegal invasions

They are fake "Jews", according to Arthur Koestler. He called them the 13th tribe!
They appear to run "Israel" western media and have blackmailed the UK and USA legislatures. They seem to be the money power, spoken of by Woodrow Wilson.
