This discovery from six years ago was a product of the race to analyse several foods, particularly berries, which contain live-preserving ingredients.
The pharmaceutical industry, working through some universities, is attempting to discover the information and patent it before the rest of humanity realises what they are doing.
As an example of their success, I will just mention red yeast rice which is well known to effectively reduce cholesterol. This is due to the presence of a natural statin in it which is found in some yeasts.
The US Government has however acted to prevent Americans making, selling or using red yeast rice with the natural statin.
All US manufacturers selling red yeast rice actually sell it with the natural statin removed. This is to preserve a pharmaceutical company's monopoly on that statin.
For those interested, the University of Maryland's Medical Centre has all the details of this piece of commercial skullduggery.
If you have learned from non-American sources that red yeast rice is an effective supplement and wish to avail yourself of it, I urge you to buy your supply from non-US sources.
